Long Johns Fish and Chips in North Dorset

Very disappointed normally this place is good but last Friday placed an order at 17.45 to collect at 19.15 arrived at 19.10 to be told it wouldn't be ready till 19.30 which eventually became 19.50 and no jumbo sausages and to compensate they done 2 small one to each jumbo

Great value with their sausage and chips. Less hassle to park than the other choice in town

Waste of time and money!! Don't bother I'd go elsewhere the state of these!!!

Good deals on at the moment, found the chips very small, and some were under cooked.

I was trying to keep the cost down so thought I'd try a fish cake Very disappointing. About 5 % fish if you're lucky. Fish and chips are great though, hopefully have some offers on soon.

Popped in for a small portion of chips as I just wanted something to accompany the lasagne we had ready prepared for dinner. They were tasty enough but it was a really really tiny portion size - it felt smaller than a kids portion of chips but was expensive at £2.40. Staff were friendly enough but either need to be trained / allowed to give slightly more generous portion sizes if they want my repeat business!

Ordered Large cod,no it was small for £8.10. They did however cook another one for me and they were very friendly. Next one arrived and still small for what i ordered was Large cod. Batter was delicious,crispy and golden but the fish was chewy and hardly any of it. So I won't be going again as I think the owners are trying to save money. Really disappointed 😞

Not cheap. Large fish was small and not great quality. Won't be using this takeaway again!

Food is mainly cooked to order, and worth the wait to be honest. Needs a bench to sit on whilst waiting would help

Chips were fine but the fish cake was just mashed potato with one bit of fish in it very disappointed the sausage was also not good quality.

For the price I was expecting a decent chippy tea 😒. There wasn't much fish on the inside of the batter

Treated ourselves to fish and chip for lunch. Cooked fresh whilst we waited. The young men behind the counter were polite and welcomed customers with a smile. The fish was beautiful cooked as were the chips. Beautiful thoroughly recommend….

Lovely fish and chips and quick efficient service. Fish cake was awful though. Just mushed up left over fish and chips in batter and absolutely tasteless. A normal chip shop fishcake would have been far better. Definitely prefer this over the other chip shop in town. Lovely well cooked chips.

Ordered pie and chips -only the pie was edible the so called chips were all the scraps and left overs hard and dry, only fit for the bin. Never to return

There is a young lad there and when he cooks the food is amazing. However we went on the 30th April and the food was shocking, small man cooking, you could see through the battered fish and the chips were refried scraps. Very worrying as they has only opened. He then proceeded to call out a young female member of staff for serving too many chips. Trust me that was the normal potion, it is a shame that they were inedible.

I didn't take a picture as I was too happy eating them. Had two small fish and large chips. Even George the dog joined in. Such a happy team there. Thanks again

Wouldn't recommend fish was dripping in oil and the batter was soggy chips tastes as tho they were reheated ones curry sauce was disgusting didn't even eat it was that bad. Only went due to forums being closed definitely won't be returning, how long John's is still open is beyond me. Also the smell in there was awful. I will add tho the staff were lovely and seemed very helpful they can't help what they are given to work with.

Only went here cause forum fryer closed for refurbishment but never again Spent £21 for rubbish mushy peas and curry sauce both like water and as lids not put on correctly all spilt in bag plaice horrible horrible batter basically all disgusting Inc battered saus and chips l which had scraps in them all left fur taste in mouth Also ext find lucky us a 2inch hair in curry sauce made me feel so sick 1 more thing staff need to smile and acknowledge customers a course in customer service maybe would help We have fish and chips maybe once every couple of months but never from there again .Forum fryer please reopen and quick . Amazing chicken nuggets and chips they tasted amazing

Ordered a 2 large cod and chips, for the price I may as well of gone fishing for one myself. Wasn't a lot for the money paid, chips where too crispy and small portions considering I ordered large. Won't be using again.

I've always found your fish and chips excellent, and large sausage in batter very nice also, chips very decent!

Banging battered sausage but chips were way too crunchy.....I mean like crisps. It was a Sunday and not much going on so maybe on a busy day chips might be fluffy.....judge against other reviews for yourself

Not entirely enjoyable.... The chips had been cooked ages ago not fresh just warmed up and the fish was no bigger than a small as o asked for a large.... For the price of £13.00 plus it was p..s poor... Don't bother going

We've been using this takeaway over several years whilst holidaying locally. After spending £30 on fish and chips for four in August I have to say we had the worst fish and chips ever. There was virtually no fish inside the batter. I've seen more in a fish finger ! Also the chips were inedible due to being either overcooked or re warmed. I tried emailing their admin. with the complaints and didn't receive a reply. We will never return and will not recommend them.

Very disappointed. Not used this chip shop In a while . We had large chips, battered cod and fishcake. Service was quick and staff were friendly . Sadly though the products were disappointing. Fish and fish cake were tasteless. Chip portion size was good but again very poor quality. Literally all the scraps of potato, just crispy bits. This seems to come up alot in previous reviews. Sadly won't be going back

Popped in here whilst camping, got back to the site 20 minutes away and they had forgotten dads large battered sausage 😕 chips where all no more and inch long dry, daughter described them as "crusty". Definitely would not come back to here.

The cook was appalling. The chips were more like scrag ends and the fish batter was over-cooked. I felt sorry for the two kids who were working with her. At 7.30pm she was turning customers away as she said she couldn't cope.

Quality of the food is above average, the haddock was great and meaty. Where this place falls short, is quality vs quantity. The quality is not high enough to justify the child's portion you'll receive for the price. I had to have a second meal to sort out my hunger - I am not a big guy. Overpriced for what you get unfortunately. Tiny box of almost nothing for a tenner.

We had great fish & chips here the other night. Service was friendly and promptly. We had a small size and they were rather large and enough to fill our tummies. Packaging was environmentally friendly.

The fish and chips here are nice, but the offer they have of 2 small cod or haddock and large chips are a rip off. The fish is so small that after 5 bites its gone, not worth the batter thats on them. When we first had them the lady in there said because they were so small she gave us 2 small pieces each, now its only 1 very tiny piece. So not worth the £10 they are charging. Its a shame really because its better fish and chips than the other chippy at the bottom of Salisbury Road

I was disappointed. The price was relatively high as chip shops go. The service was acceptable but certainly didn't stand out for their customer service. The fish cake, well I'm not sure it contained any fish. The chips were mediocre. I was also surprised that I was not offer salt and vinegar and none was available. They also stapled the bag closed so there was not really any expectation that I would want to put any salt or vinegar on (unless they expect everyone to take them home and serve them up but what if you are a traditional Brit and want to eat out of the bag on a cold Spring night🤔🤪). Overall, it was okay but I've had much better at a cheaper price.

I made my first visit to this place at lunchtime today to buy cod and chips. Everything was perfectly cooked and very tasty with decent portion sizes. The place looked nice and clean and I noticed that good Covid controls were in place. I was definitely a happy customer.

Reasonable prices, chips not the best, lots of small bits. Curry sauce watery with lumps in it. Sausages nice.

Called in quickly today for small portion fish and chips. He cooked my haddock there and then. Great portion size. Great price. Will be in again very soon

Overall disappointing greasy medium sized cod when I ordered a large, dry chips and a smile wouldn’t have gone amiss all for nearly 10 quid Christ 😱😵‍💫 perhaps a different batter recipe and / or different potato variety that are fluffier ?

Previous purchase and delivery was just lovely. Recent try was disappointing as we were unable to order on line and shop couldn't/wouldn't accept card payments over the phone. We went elsewhere for our meal.

Wow, this has become our favourite, exceptional standard with home delivery, everything is delivered hot, chips aren't soggy and the batter on fish is crispy light

Thought we would try this one out, realised how overpriced it was but thought it must be good.... Got a tiny portion size and chips were really not all that. Will stick to elsewhere.

Pricey for the size of portions but decent fish and chips

The size of a large haddock is disgraceful. Its the size of a small cod, and extremely thin. £6.70 each is outrageous. They should inform you what you are paying for. Soggy chips. All cold.

Used click and collect. Food ready on time with good sized portions and well cooked.

The tastiest thing was the salt and vinegar I put on it. Quantity of chips was good for a small portion but lacked taste by a mile. Burger was horrible, just terrible. Not sure what the actual meat was but I nearly broke my tooth on something hard in the burger. I suspect the meat is very cheap and has bits in it. Overall I think you can get a better meal elsewhere in Blandford. I recommend The Forum Frier.

Tastes okay. Portion size is absolutely outrageous. A large chips for them is a child's chips for the rest of the world. Most chip shops feed two people with a large. Won't be going here again in a hurry.

Most disgusting chips I have ever had, cooked in the same oil as the fish, re-fried chips and so greasy I could have rung them out and fueled my car for a month !!!!!
