Long John Hill Fish Bar in Norwich

Best fish in the area for taste, size and value. Their small place was bigger than my usual chip shop's medium, and £3 cheaper! So good you will have to wait, but they give you a buzzer so you can go sit in your car if it's a bit cold outside. Staff all very pleasant, and with everyone waiting is a nice atmosphere...strange for a chip shop lol.

Food was good but not happy waiting outside in the cold weather for 30 min for food which not right for old person

Won’t get my money again! Diabolical service system. Take your order and money and ended up waiting outside for 26 minutes.

Once upon a time this was a good chippy. But they have diversified the menu and despite only wanting chips, which are now expensive, they seem to only serve in order of the orders. This means simple and quick food i.e. chips are not served quickly. Often waiting for ages. The art of fast food is not to be found here

Most of the time really good but do have they're odd days when the chips aren't great & the batter is too thick but tbf they're still better than most. The service let's them down a bit, they only cook to order, considering how busy they get is daft. Even with telephone ordering theres a wait of 20-40 mins. The staff seem to struggle getting orders correct. Yet I still go every week so can't be all that bad:) There is one young lady who serves who's bloody brilliant, I really should ask her name because she really does deserve credit for her service which is always spot on!

Ok firstly this place has skate which I hadn't had in 2 years and it was beautiful! The service is amazing, love that you can wait in your car until ready. Staff are very friendly and helpful. One of the best I've been to in a long while!

What disgusting fish i had tonight. Was very under cooked and chips were hard

By far the BEST chippy food we’ve had! The cod was massive and so fresh. Chips were perfectly cooked and not soggy. Our friend had the buffalo chicken loaded fries which were out of this world! So much choice and even stunning Oreo and churros for dessert :) amazing! We’ll be back. Loved the cardboard takeaway boxes. Thank you!

Best Fish and chips I've had for several months,and good selection to choose from. Would recommend the Chilli chips as chosen by my wife,I had the nicest piece of cod I've had for months.

Stupidly expensive, cant load the handful of chips half a tiny box = £1.85p worth of chips, won't be back, thanks for the reply, I compare it with fish and chip shops, not fast food chains, or gastro pubs, the half a box of gammy chips photo is loaded up, although I appreciate your race to the bottom, give them just a bit more than the least attitude

Food is wonderful, Fish is cooked to order so it has lovely crisp batter and is piping hot. Chips are so scrumpy I would love to know what potatoes they use. We also tried a seafood basket and battered Oreos both were excellent. Recommend this place to anyone..

Normally very good. But I tried something new last night and that was the mango n chilli prawns. They were were nice but were slightly undercooked. I’ve woke up this morning with all the symptoms of food poisoning and they were the only thing I had other than churros and chicken curry spring roll. I won’t be trying the prawns again. The churros I got were lovely as usually.

Food is normally very good but chips on this occasion were dry and dark in colour suspect oil was over used fish was ok but chips tasted dry and a little over cooked

Our normal go to fish and chip shop and always been good but tonight the chips were not good most of them went in the bin. Very brown and dry, tasted old., we did have to wait for some items to be cooked around 20 mins so maybe the chips were out to one side , hence why they went like that. The fish was very good.I will of course still use this chippy as like I say normally always good

This is my Friday chip shop of choice in Norwich. Go for their Irish curry to put a little spice into your lunch. Always freshly cooked and well worth journey. I can park my van with ease in the fast flowing car park.

Always go here once a week . I don't know what potatoes they use but the chips are so good 😋

We have long been fans of the Long John Hill Fish Bar one of the few restaurants that you can still get Rock fish on a regular basis! However tonight they surpassed themselves! I opened the website today to pre order our dinner for collection and found sea food baskets and whitebait options and once I had seen them well I had to have them and at a reasonable price! True to form the service was excellent and the staff had our selection ready at the right time and when we got home oh boy we were in for a treat! It was divine! Flavoursome, well cooked, fresh and so tasty. We were loyal customers before but now. Just WOW!

Best Fish & Chips around. Menu is varied and they have great specials. Would definitely recommend the homemade flapjacks! Food is cooked to order and you can taste the difference. Never very much of a wait and the staff are very friendly. Bluelight discount is a bonus too!

Food was and is always lovely but the system of cooking to order needs looking at. Literally just ordered sausage, fishcake and chips, nothing extra special, and the wait time was 32 minutes. The staff member just shrugged and said we were on the list, no apology, when I queried how much longer the wait would be. Having to wait outside in the December cold wasn't fun, as I said, lovely food but not worth the wait.

Small portion on my very expensive large cod,second time i have been short changed with the fish portions.Have given up now and go to another. Irish curry sauce is good though.. About it really.

We had cod&chips and it was absolutely delicious 😋 we also had battered sausages but we didn't like them as much.overall the service and speed was really good. They also allow blue light card holders to get their discount. We will definitely return.

Have visited a few times now since moving into the area, absolutely amazing chippy!! So many options, chips are always well fried with crispy outside and fluffy middle.

Ordered online to pick up had to wait for a few minutes when I arrived but was worth it fish delicious and chips were lovely too also piping hot

Staff are so slow it’s unreal. Genuinely painful and infuriating to watch. Never seen so many 5 people behind a fryer turn out so little food. The food is good, but the slow service is going to stop me returning. I have been quite a few times and always the same. I’ve given up hoping they would speed up. Making people wait outside 15 mins just for some chips - every time!

We travelled from Liverpool this weeknd to visit family in Norwich, stopped off at this little gem of a place! I had the Chilli Mango Prawns, chips, curry and Peas..wow best take away food I've had! Prawns were full of flavour and the chips were proper chippy chips! Curry was delish as were the peas, my partner had the fish and that too was beautiful, very filling and the batter was crispy and fluffy! We also had a flapjack too, they are absolutely delightful! May have to visit family more often to visit this Fish and Chip Shop! Love the way its one way in and one way out! We didn't wait long for our food either on a Saturday evening about 6.30pm and the shop was busy! Great food, great packaging and great service! 👍

So been in this evening( Thursday ) ordered Cod chips one battered sausage and a bread roll, I waited outside for 25minutes for this order, which is not acceptable, I got home with my box opened it and guess what no bread roll, I Thought the young guy this evening who was bringing orders outside was very dismissive and unfriendly. I would certainly say it wasn’t overly busy so why take so long? Two other clients outside Was complaining about waiting so long, one of which actually said to young dismissive lad thanks for that but 30 minutes for cod&chips twice is not acceptable and also said thanks but I will not be back, There was another fella waiting for ten minutes to be asked if he ordered a jumbo fishfinder butty, he said yes I did, to be told sorry we’ve ran out of these so I can either refund you or you can order something else, he had already waited ten minutes to be told that. What on earth is going on in this chip shop?

Service was impeccable, however we waited over 15 minute for a promised ‘10 minutes’ and when we got home they had forgotten to put in the curry sauce and the chips and fish tasted greasy and unappetising. We’ve been getting fish and chips here for (probably) 40ish years so it was a real disappointment. Not sure what went wrong tonight, but hopefully it can be fixed.

Friendly staff, Portions are huge, Food is lovely, fresh and well cooked! Had a little wait but considering it's cooked fresh i dont mind, for those moaning about a 15 minute wait i dont understand- wherever you go you have to wait!? Even at home.. its cooked fresh what do you expect! They even offer to bring it to your car if you want to go sit in the car - which i politely declined as they had enough people in and out of the door i didnt mind waiting outside! flapjacks are so so nice although I had it today as i definitely couldn't fit it in after fish and chips! Will definitely return!!!!

Probably the best fish and chip shop in Norwich. Polite staff, fresh food. The Irish curry sauce is great. Since the new owner took over a couple of years ago the food quality and service has improved so much. Don’t let other reviews about a wait time put you off. I’ve never had to wait too long. Fresh food isn’t instant but you can definitely taste a difference.

Since the chip shop has had new owners the food has gone down hill considerably never have any fish cooked so there is always a very long wait for your order !!! batter is terrible over crispy and soggy underneath!!!! And it NEVER stays on the sausages The price you get charged for the awful food that is served is absurd, and the prices keep on rising!!!! I came in and placed a smallish order and had to wait around 20 odd minutes for the food to be cooked as there was none in the displays, I find this unacceptable on a Saturday night when they should know that they are going to be very busy on the weekend rant over will not be using this chip shop again !!!!! I do have the correct chip shop, thank you!!! I used to be a regular when the old owner was there, since he left the food has gone down hill!!!

My favourite chip shop. I ring the order in and by the time i get there and pay it is usually ready. Very helpful and efficient. Very clean and varied menu.Can also pay by card unlike some of the others !!

What a great place food fantastic you will have to wait but worth the wait

On holiday and fancied fish and chips from this fish bar. I was surprised how fast the food was done ready for take away. However the fish was very dry and clearly not cooked to order which was very disappointing. Shame.

Just had cod bites and regular chips. The cod was delicious… moist white flesh and crispy batter and tasty chips. Good value too. It’s not my regular but was open on a Monday so decided to drive there. Will definitely go back again! Highly recommend

Waited 30 mins in cold after ordering Mel 1cod 2sauages 1chips. No apology for wait . Obviously with all orders online plus walk in orders obviously can’t cope. If I hadn’t asked after 25 mins waiting I’m convinced I’d still been waiting for my meal.

The fish and chips are cooked to order. I ordered online. Large middle cod and chips. Amazingly fresh, like I would get when we visit Cornwall. They even bring it to your car. Very friendly staff and polite. I live in Poringland, and even though their are two fish and chip shops nearer to me. I always get mine from long John hill fish bar.

Very nich food, There was quite a queue for the food here, so obviously a popular place with pkebmnty of staff to serve everyone. Waiting time was about what you would expect at a busy place.

I can only review this chip shop for the last four months, but as a lover of fish and chips, I would say this is the best in Norwich for consistent quality and service. The shop doesn’t look much but don’t let this put you off. I must have tried 75% of the shops in Norwich, award winning or not, this beats them all for consistency of quality. I give it my 5 star yummy award!!

An order was made earlier today for a collection at 6.30. Unfortunately the order hadn't been completed so it was a long wait for our food. And apparently more expensive. In view of the error a discount should have been forthcoming. There were lots of people waiting for the food at 6.30. Hi the order wasn't in my name. Obviously I didn't have the wrong shop!! My colleague waited whilst the order was dealt with. Apparently the original order was not made up at all. She did make the order Tuesday morning and had messaged out group chat to let us know. I myself spoke to the manager on Saturday afternoon to let him know we were going to put an order in on Tuesday and was given the email address to do this. Really don't know why the order wasn't completed and ready.

A little bit of a wait for food, but worth it - you can't argue with the quality or value of this place. What looks like an unassuming local chip shop is putting out some of the best fish and chips around.

Under new ownership and seems to be a lot better

Order online to be told a pick up time to then be made to stand outside 40 minutes past that given time to then be told they've sold my large haddock and only have cod... Fine. But I don't appreciate being told haddock is cheaper than cod.

Over all a nice fish and chip bar. Chips are always well cooked fish was nice however my partner ordered a large cod and it was mostly batter at one end with very little fish, not the norm even for a tail end. Most of the staff are pleasant but the lady who served me could have cracked a smile for every customer not just the regulars. Despite all of the above I would return.

Best fish and chips I’ve had in a while! Great chips, the Irish curry sauce is to die for! Much better quality than McDonalds. Only thing I would like to see improved would be the quality of pickled onions. Otherwise fantastic.

I was very impressed, clean fresh and bright. They operate a one way system take your order and you wait outside or in your car. They bring the order to you. Sanitisation station inside door and saw the staff cleaning their hands between orders. Well done guys, helping keep us all safe.
