Lon Wah Takeaway in Basildon

It was very clean food but a little expensive also. The chow main was basically all bean sprouts. The prawn balls were under cooked and doughy. The rice was very good and crispy duck too but the chill chicken wings were dry and not spicy at all. We spent £43 on the below and sadly it wasn’t worth the money but I wouldn’t not recommend. I would say no bean sprouts and just get things not fried!

Spent £30 on food and the only thing edible was the chips. Chow mein was mainly bean sprouts, rice wasn’t cooked long enough was just overall vile

After recently moving to wickford, we tried out a few Chinese takeaways and this is by far the best! Great service, friendly over the phone, always quick and food is unreal!

Good food and clearly a good restaurant - the chow mein was flavourful and balanced, and had a nice smoky wok hei flavour to it. it was a substantial portion and everything in there was very good in regards to texture. Crunchy veg, medium noodles, soft and tender meat, it was good. The crispy chilli beef was also very nice, a good amount of crisp but also juicy and tender at the same time with a nice sweet flavour. However, I decided to try the salt and chilli chips for the first time which came a little soggy due to the nature of a takeaway. kind of lacking in flavour and the chillies and vegetables were sparse - i feel like these could do better with some more seasoning. The prawn crackers were complimentary which was nice, but unfortunately they tasted a little stale and off... So overall, the mains were of a good standard compared to the average chinese takeaway , but the side bits could be improved. Good restaurant :)

We just had our first delivery and to say we are disappointed is an understatement. What a waste of money the food was disgusting. Crispy chilli beef was soggy, chewy, uneatable and just horrible, the crispy squid was also soggy and chewy, and the portion sizes are also ridiculously small. Called to complain customer service is awful! Never again 🤮🤮🤮 Make sure you go across the road to new world you won’t be disappointed !

Worryingly poor Chinese takeaway from here the other night. Didn’t wait long and it didn’t seem like it was particularly busy, but the food they churned out was dreadful. I usually go to New World over the road because it’s a bit cheaper, but it was closed the other night. This is what I ordered with the problems; Singapore fried noodles - Flavour was clumped together in the noodles, which made them almost dusty. The flavour was then browned together and this was really not very nice. Duck with ginger - Honestly the majority of the duck was really gristley and there was only about 5 bits in the dish. The rest of the dish was basically made up of onion and a few slithers of ginger and some raw spring onion. Again, not good. Beef with onion - Beef was so chewy and the onions in the dish were practically raw. Yes raw. I know flash cooking in a wok is supposed to produce hot and slightly al dente veg, but these were raw. Sweet and sour chicken balls - majority of the batter was substantially undercooked and way too thick. Batter should be light and fluffy, not heavy and stodgy! Honestly too, I live literally a 3 minute walk away and by the time I got back home, all the food (bar the chicken balls) needed a rapid microwaving to heat back up. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that the onions in the dishes, weren’t cooked properly in the first place! Won’t be using Lon Wah again, it’s expensive for what it is. At least we got free prawn crackers.

Food was good. Lacking a little umph in the flavour. Avoid the lemon chicken as it is a little soggy. Rest of food was great.

Food was very tasty but a little overpriced. Disappointed to see shredded beef portion has shrunk quite considerably.

I have ordered 2 meal from here and I have to say. This is the best Chinese I have found. The food has that fresh feel to it. Also you can state what you want in the food as in spicy or not. They always deliver before the estimated time. Drivers are always friendly. Highly recommend.

Picked up a takeaway after using them previously. Only to get home to find out the sauce pot was spilt out in the bag. Called them and instead of them saying sorry pop in and we will replace, they actually said bring the pot back and we will replace lt, like i was desperate to be dishonest for a pot of sauce. Discusted at the customer service and their mistrust to their honest clients. Having expressed my views, they then tried to lie saying they were going to clean the pot which they threw in the bin when i returned it in the bag full of sauce. Their driver was no better as he decided to slide a pound over the counter saying take your pound. Think he had some problem understanding although i assume he was English. After all that, the barbacue ribs turned out to be the worst dry ribs ive ever tasted. Not for me anymore. Far better places than this to spend my money.

The last few times I had a takeaway it has not been very hot

I don't live anywhere near this establishment but I am seriously considering the journey to collect the food. Every time I have been fortunate enough to eat from here I have had a wonderful meal. It's quality is surpassed by none and I would heartily recommend anyone to change where you order from and try here. All too often from other establishments the food is bland and each dish is hardly discernable from each other. Order from here if you want to experience Chinese cuisine that is packed with flavour, variety and above all quality. You can tell that care is taken to ensure that your meals are consistently good with every order.

I have just spent nearly £50 in this Chinese takeaway and I totally regret it the food is so below average it is a joke if anything they should be shut down curry sauce taste disgusting chicken balls are hard Salt-N-Pepa chicken wings I'm not even worth eating Please do not get food from here

Just ordered our last takeaway from Lon Wah The quality of the food. We received was well below standard and almost inedible The meat was tough and chewy, chicken wings greasy and slimy The vast majority of the food went straight in the bin. We have never done this before We. Have used this restaurant/ takeaway for years Standards have been slipping for a while, tonight was the final straw Would definitely not recommend

Ordered for the 1st time yesterday...never again!! Pork was like chewing fat! And the sweet and sour chicken was tough and chewy.. unfortunately most ended up in the bin. Absolute waste of money and will never order from here again

Not good this week. Sweet and sour chicken balls, batter was stodgy, not crisp as usual. Chips seemed like they were yesterdays, reheated. Mushroom curry was set like jelly and I had to mix it before putting on my food. Chow mein was luke warm. Chicken satay skewers half the size of usual orders. All seemed as though it had been quickly reheated and definitely not cooked fresh. Arrived not more than 15 minutes after ordering, not a good sign, and was more expensive than a couple of weeks ago. Definitely not impressed. Will think twice before ordering from you again.

I really enjoy the food from Lon Wah. In my opinion this is the best local Chinese takeaway in Wickford.

99% of the time the food is lovely we have had food that wasn't great but it has only been on the very very odd occasion. Delivery is usually very fast.

The best Chinese in Wickford for take away the food is delicious the staff are always friendly and helpful sadly I can’t comment on the actual restaurant as it’s not wheelchair accessible but others I know say it’s a good evening eating experience very happy with the takeout service

Amazing food, every dish tasted WOW. Dish postions great, good size meat pieces in the curry and good prices. Delivery time was fast and staff very polite. Highly recommend

Amazing food and great service. Broad menu cooked fresh. You could tatse the quality of the food. Cooked to order so if you're picky they're happy to amend for you. Recently refurbished inside and looking great. Would recommend eating in because the staff are fantastic and it's a nice evening, especially if you have a small group. Parking is available behind the restaurant but I'm not sure on who can use etc. Some park outside on the pavement however there is a pay and display at Co-Op / behind Dominos and The Ladygate Center which is just a minutes walk away.

First time at Lon Wah. We ordered a takeaway via the phone. We arrived within 15 minutes and the food was ready. Friendly staff, good quality food. The restaurant looked lovely. Very clean looking.

i personally think they are the best Chinese in wickford by far food always tastes fresh and the people nice to deal with . just an update i been using them for another 2 months and their standard which is really high has never dropped i have recommended them to lot of people and they have come back to me with a 100% agreement it is buy far the best Chinese restaurant in a 10 mile radius

Our favorite and first choice Chinese restaurant without a doubt. Good service and great tasting food makes a good combination. Not the cheapest around far, but as the old saying goes, you only get what you pay for....

The crispy chilli beef was neither crispy or chilli.. had more carrot than chilli beef, didn't have any kick and lacked sauce - very, very disappointing !!! The smoked chicken wasn't great at all. The rice, chow mein and chicken balls were all nice, however there was only a tiny pot of sweet and sour sauce that was only half full. The portion size was small and didn't represent value. Staff were really nice! Overall I was disappointed, the food did not live up to the reviews online !! I will not be spending my money here again.

Ordered a Takeaway here for the first time (usually order from Billericay), I can honestly say it was one of the best Chinese takeaways i have had. The food was great, easy to order, good delivery times. All round good experience! Would highly recommend!

Great family run restaurant, delicious food, great decor and environment. Very friendly and helpful staff, great selection of Chinese food and has a lovely bar inside the restaurant. Ordered from here as had a guest over and did not want to cook and Chinese I normally used was closed they charged delivery even though live across the road literally ,very over priced food tasted burnt ,small portions will not use again
