Lomond Fish Bar in West Dunbartonshire

Food was amazing but the wait was horrendous. Not because there were loads of folk in front of us, but they were prioritising regulars before visitors regardless of who ordered first or what they ordered. But the food was worth the wait, it was lovely.

Enjoyed a few fish suppers during our stay in the area, delicious!

Just got a fish supper here and it was bloody excellent! Best fish supper I've had in a long time! 2 large bits of fish, with chips for £9. Well worth it. Fish was delicious, with crispy batter. Thoroughly recommended.

Second time here after visiting fish shop round corner. Service was excellent. With a chat and smiles. Food, Fish supper was probably the best from Balloch to Glasgow and beyond. Sausage supper , superb , though not the biggest. We’ll be back. If down in Balloch don’t be tempted by the big named fish shop. This one directly across from train station is way ahead for quality and quantity. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Came in here a week or so ago, great fish and chips! Really enjoyed! Lovely staff as well, and lots of people in the shop waiting for their suppers and they were all friendly and chatty. Nice experience :)

We came here twice as we stayed the weekend in a hotel around the corner, first day I had chips and the wife had a cheeseburger but that wasn’t to her liking because the burger was battered, that was the first time I have ever seen that before. And on the second day we had fish and chips and I have got to say that was an incredible bit of fish better than I’ve had in London. So I’m looking forward to coming back in December for Hogmanay to get some more fish and chips.

Stopped for a spot of lunch, with the wife and child and pooch, offers both indoor and outdoor seating for food. Food was hot and good value, chip butty (chips and a bread roll for those not from the north east uk) and sausage and chips they give you 2 sausages, reasonably priced very friendly staff and very welcoming, will defo go again on next holiday

Went in and asked for fish and chips. Man serving me asked me to repeat myself which I did. He then told me to speak up as he couldn't hear me. I told him I'd had to repeat myself three times. He then got angry and told me to get out of the shop. I was very embarrassed by this treatment and won't be returning.

ive been to Scotland many times and this was by far the best fish and chips restaurant, i think, i was so drunk i dont remember any of it, i also never was in Scotland

The worst fish supper I have ever had!!! I checked out their latest reviews which were mixed but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt which was a mistake. The batter on the fish was way too thick and retained too much oil , it actually felt like plastic and tasted horrible, I ended up picking the fish out to eat it. The chips were bang average and that is me being generous . It’s a shame that the chip shop that occupies a prime spot in one of our tourist spots is so bad, I think it is just sheer laziness and arrogance as they don’t have any real competition.

Friendly, accommodating, fresh cooked tasty food.

I was desperate to try a standard chipper whilst I was in the UK and this business met the brief. Located close to my accommodation. The staff were super helpful as I navigated their menu. I managed to order a fish cake supper. It was exceptionally tasty and I really enjoyed it. My eyes were bigger than my tummy and I belatedly realised I should have just had the fish cakes. I also purchased a coke. I was mesmerised by their choices which are quite different to what I would get back home. Well done to this chipper for getting everything right- including their prices!

A spotless fish and chip shop. Despite the poring rain the welcome was warm. Smart looking and smart customer service. We, along with others, turned up just before they were closing but they ensured all customers got what they wanted. And they kept a smile on their faces. If that was not impressive enough the food was excellent! We will remember that meal for a long time.

If the food was as great as the staff it would be fantastic, sadly not. Chips tasted like they had been cooked ages before. Batter on the fish was very thick and a strange tadte, perhaps the oil needed changing, left with indigestion! Curry sauce very watery, yuk.

Shocking! The worst ever sausage supper this evening, if it wasent for the train appearing, I would have took it back, chips disgusting ,cold dry and also sausage, shame on yous !

Fish wasn't cooked to order. Was dried out double fried and not what you want. If it's not cooked to order it's no fish n chips it's PISH N CHIPS!

great fish n chips last night. took them down to the river and enjoyed the views whilst eating. we tried two chip shops whilst here. this one was the best!!

Asked for hamburger supper with cheese and curry sauce, was the worse 7quid ever spent. I've been to funeral's where folk were less cremated than the food. You pay £2.20 extra for cheese and curry sauce and hardly get any. Ended up in the bin.

Was staying in balloch for a couple off day my partner and myself popped in for a fish supper. Friendly staff and the fish and chip are amazing fish and the chips where cooked perfeck

Very greasy, no cutlery, sauces and bag provided. The lady at the till did not listened to my ORDER properly and gave something else. Not recommended

Have been using the Lomond Fish Bar for years and believe that there is nowhere near as good. their special fish if amazing and the chips are always crisp and tasty

One of the best chip shops in Scotland that I have tried, had there sausage supper and my partner had there fish supper. The batter is super crispy and full of flavor. Highly recommend

Waited 20 mins after order for fresh fish and chips, had to wait outside due to covid restrictions, in a freezing cold night\(understand due to covid) As having to wait 20 mins expected nice fish, WRONG, myself and 2 other family members arrived home within 5mins, , the chips were cold, the fish was disgustingly greasy mainly batter, could have wrung it out like a sponge, complained following day but owner not interested, no apology, adamant they were cooked fresh, don't dispute it but hot greasy fish, they have been frying fish there for over 30yrs, how hard is it, catering for tourists., Dont think they will do well in winter with locals, should have realised why shop not busy on a saturday night

Fish and chips ordered on a Monday night. Crispy batter,chips perfectly golden. Great price and staff really welcoming. Definitely highly recommended 👌

Burnt both the kids pizzas but my fish was banging......so rather than listen to they 2 wee belters greet n moan I had to share my fish,how hard is pizza to cook💯💩

Very poor quality food. Fish was awful , overfried chicken nuggets. Chips were very average. End up spending next days next to wc.

Chips not the best guys LOTS of burned ones and scampi and Scotch pie was brick HARD not so good guys. Will try again next month.

Best chippy I've had in a while. Nice crispy batter on the fish and no bones also which was a bonus. Curry was a bit weak but still tasted good.

Absolutely the worst fish and chips I’ve had anywhere in Scotland. The fryer either doesn’t know or doesn’t care what he’s doing. A grease fest which most of ended up in the bin. Avoid.

After years of going to Balloch during the day as a Tour Guide we stayed over. I knew Mum and Dad who owned this for years and they will be pleased to see it is being looked after. We reckon it was the best Fish and Chips ever, the batter is not all big and fluffy, it's crisp and has a Taste to it before you reach the fish. Oh and the chips. Yummmmm

Ordered 4 fish and chips worse fish we have ever had covered in bones batter was so chewy would not recommend this place was disgusting! Thank god none of my children had any bones stuck in there mouth we put the lot in the bin!

This place used to be good but we won't be back. Food was inedible what a waste of money, we went for a treat and wished we hadn't bothered. Don't waste your time.

Sometimes you need to wait 10 minutes if something is needing cooked but is that bad? You know it is fresh then. They make the best fish in the area, if you like big flakes of fish in a crispy batter and not a soggy limo batter.

I do not normally eat a chippy but went here for lunch and ordered fish and chips, service was fast and it is the best fish supper I have ever tasted.

This used to be my go to local chippie for 20 years until new guy started cooking. The batter is far too thick now so is soggy and inedible by the time I get home. Thin it down and it will be crispy for longer.. No need to flour the fish either. My family ran a chip shop so I know what I'm talking about. Always a long wait for chips.

Just found some bones in the fried fish. However, the location of the shop is excellent.

Alongside the Train Station. On street parking. Takeaway food. Freshly prepared. Battered beef burgers, chicken,fish chips etc etc. A really top quality range of food and at a good price.

What a,HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT old dry fish that was MIRE BATTER THAN FISH!!!! chips were ok,throughly miffed as only have this treat on holiday&we wont be coming back to this chip shop again,maybe we were unlucky

On our hols, this chippy was recommended by our landlady and we were not disappointed. Two fish suppers were very nice and tasty, also half the price We would pay at home. Well done.

Sorry bout the terrible pictures but this was a rainy day. This place is opposite the train station at Balloch at the foot of loch Lomond. We always choose this place and we are never disappointed. There is a wide selection of items on the menu and prices are normal and not over inflated. Everything seems to be cooked just right. Check opening times if you are going out of your way to get there. You can usually get a parking space across the main road.

Just had a fish supper from here. Both pieces of fish were delicious but let down by the very small portion of chips (16 chips) which were luke warm.

I have always rated this chippy as one of the best but my visit yesterday my chips were hard and batter just a bit too hard there were strangers serving and cooking still good though but not the usual fish supper I have been used...

This is the only fast food place that actually knows the difference between raw chips and lovely chips. I'll never buy from a different local chippy again!! There's usually a cue but it's worth the wait.

I went in for fish and chips, the staff are well presented and very good, the food was delicious, its worth a visit if your in Balloch.
