Frozen chicken, rice tasted suspiciously like Uncle Bens, nan bread was poor, popadoms were okay, but that's not hard to get right. Probably the worst Indian meal ever.

Really nice Indian to sit in and takeaway! Found this when I lived on Stranmillis for a year and it was lovely- I would usually get the chicken madras which is never too greasy and the chicken is very good quality. The mango chutney is great here also-You find some Indian just use one from a jar but this definitely tastes so much better. Sat in once with a groupon voucher I had got as a present and it was lovely.

Had been to the restaurant a few years ago so decided to try the take away service. Ordered chicken madras, chicken tikka masala, pilau rice, naan and x2 portions of popadoms. We were extremely disappointed with the portion size across the board; containers with only a few pieces of chicken (95% sauce), naan 1/4 of what we would be used to and a measly few shards of broken popadoms. We won't be using this restaurant again!

And the pilau rice was a small portion. The food was tasty and the nan bread was excellent, we just didn't feel that our meals were good value for money.

Got groupon voucher as birthday gift , booked for Saturday 12.30pm lunch .Arrived went to enter and was stopped by member of staff telling us they did not open for lunch on Saturdays , I explained we had booked for lunch , he then asked groupon voucher booking , I said yes and was then told that's ok we only open for lunch for voucher customers .This raised alarm bells this probably means small portions or bad food .We were taken to a window seat in an empty restaurant , decor is really good with privacy curtains between tables which is a brilliant idea .We were asked for drink order and ordered two diet cokes , We both had the Michalli mixed starterIt arrived promptly quiet small portion but adequate and was very nice .I ordered chicken jalfrazie with plain basmati rice and my wife had chicken bhuna with pilau egg fried rice , they both arrived plenty of rice but the chicken part was quiet small .We got stuck in and shared everything between us it was quiet good except the dishes tasted very similar .I do have to say the staff are very nice and attentive .All said it was not a bad lunch but really only worth the groupon voucher cost £20.00 instead of over £40.00 it would have cost without voucher this did not include the drinks which we paid for separately .So be very aware when any restaurant only opens for discount vouchers as you will not get the full menu or portion sizes .

This is a very pleasant restaurant situated up a steep flight of stairs in Stranmillis village. The room was warm, attractively lit and set out. Good cloakrooms are provided on the restaurant level. We booked with a Groupon Voucher and on arrival were shown to a table. The restaurant was not busy so I asked if we could have a table in the window. This was no problem and a large round table was set up for us.There was a good food and wine menu and staff were helpful in sorting out drinks and food orders. Our food came in a timely fashion and was very well prepared and served. My Dansak was hotter than I like, having a lot of green chillies and less lentils than I am used to and the King prawns were cut up very small - not what one wants when ordering King Prawns!! It needed quite a lot of Riata and a vegetable side order to cool the Dansak down. Lamb shanks from the 'modern' menu were ordered by two of our party and were highly praised. The Wine list was good and prices reasonable. We did not have puddings or coffee. For our party of 4, using our Groupon vouchers worth £80.20, we paid a further £48.40 for our extras. In all, it was an enjoyable evening.

What a great surprise! We were here (as many seem to be) with a groupon deal, and so didn't know what to expect at all. The food tasted amazing and the menu was interesting and easy to understand. The restaurant is a pleasant space to be in, but it was a bit quiet for a great atmosphere. Service was polite, but a few more smiles and generous welcome would have gone a long way. As has been noted before, a name change might do wonders for this business - a very strange name for an otherwise lovely restaurant.

Another visit to Lolita did not disappoint. Lamb kebab and chicken starters were served with excellent presentation, care had obviously been taken to arrange the food on the plates.Being a lamb fan I had lamb shank and my wife chicken bhuna, both with mushroom rice and a keema nan. The rice was plentiful and the food delicious, washed down with a glass of Merlot. The atmosphere was good, the restaurant being half full. I'm not sure why someone commented on the atmosphere not suiting them ... always found it fine myself. We will continue to patronise here as the food is well presented, tasty and good value. The value, as in cost, might reflect competition from other local restaurants, but you pays your money and you take your choice.

As it was a Tuesday there were no other customers, so we were served promptly. We had a mixed platter of starters which were very flavoursome. I had Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi which was medium hot and spicy. My husband had Chicken Tikka Dansak which was also delicious. The portions were generous with large pieces of chicken breast. I would certainly visit again, although it would be quite expensive without the voucher.

We frequent this restaurant for the good food, service and overall satisfaction with the whole experience. We enjoyed starters and good main courses, Chicken Rogan Josh and one of my favourites, Lamb Sag, both requested with mushroom pilau rice and a naan. Coffee's to finish. The service is always personable and not over rushed. They allow time for one to sit down and look at the menu before asking for your drinks and meal order. The name chosen for the restaurant has unfortunate connotations but this does not take away from the ambience and service provided. I'd just like to know who named it and why.

The Groupon deal we got was £20, so adding the drinks and Naan bread on, it came to just over £30. I'd certainly go back for more if I got another deal.

Purchased a voucher on groupon as I find this a fantastic way of trying restaurants before committing as a regular.I can def say I will not be a regular. On arrival we were greeted with a half smile shown to a table and left.My wife brought our voucher from her bag and placed it on the table in front of her. When the waiter finally came back to our table his face tripping him he looked at the voucher on the table frowned said " O Voucher ".Then proceeded to clear the table of all wine glasses and walk off.We eat out regular and frequently pay £18 to £22 for a bottle of wine.We were disgusted.A different waiter came back and took our order.I have to say his attitude was much better. Our drinks order was a jug of tap water as obviously with a voucher we could not afford their wine. The food was mediocre the service atrocious what a waste of time and travel coming from Carrickfergus.Advice don't think of going with a voucher you are not wanted.Food not worth paying full price for anyway!

Visited here for the first time on Tuesday past and had a very pleasant experience. I availed of a Living Social deal with my good lady and we both enjoyed the very good, attentive service and the really nice interior of the restaurant. I was worried about portion sizes, but thankfully they were fairly good. I ordered a nice starter and then my usual chicken tikka madras and garlic naan. Good spice off the madras, but 2/3 bites/pieces of the chicken was a little tougher than I might have liked. Naan was good and fresh. Cobra bottles (for just less than a fiver) are, in my opinion, the perfect accompaniment to a meal like this. All in all, a really nice place with decent food. My usual Indian haunt is truthfully a good bit better, but if you're wanting classy surroundings with great service, Lolita is hard to beat if you're in Belfast...!

Food OK - very average. I found the portion sizes quite disappointing. Could count on one hand how many pieces of chicken were in my curry. Service is efficient, yet not particularly friendly or helpful. Whilst taking our order a group arrived and our waiter wanted to abandon us, mid ordering, to deal with these customers in spite of there being three other members of staff standing idle around the bar area. Pricing is slightly optimistic, in my opinion, in context to the quality of the food. I consider charging £1.50 for one (broken up) poppadum a bit much. Similarly, charging for certain dips seems a bit excessive and whilst it may appear fairly trivial, shaped my overall impression of the restaurant. With Indie Spice just across the road I don't envisage eating here again.

Even though my seafood starter was priced at £4.95 I had to pay the additional charge. Same thing would have happened with the main had I chosen a seafood variant (£3 extra). Two courses allowed with voucher and naan bread & wine extra. One suggestion to owners if they run the Groupon voucher again - "cut out the small print and just make it food to the value of £40 (eg) - dininks extra".

My email to them, I cannot be bothered wasting more time retyping itHiI have just been in for dinner with my wife; i wont be back, nor recommend your restaurant. 1. we were asked if we had booked when half the restaurant was empty;2. the prices on your menu are ridiculously expensive noting rice is not included in your £10.50+ main prices. - £25 for just two main courses??? 3. your menu is limited;4. for the price, the portions are tiny;5. when your waiter clears the table, it might be best to retrain them so they don't throw the cutlery at the plates they have lifted;6. attitude is everything and your waiting staff have no personality and my being there was clearly an inconvenience; I shall inconvenience them no more and never be back. I shall advise my friends to stay with the bengal brasserie on the Ormeau Road as the extra 5 minute journey is a waste of time.

I am actually not a big fan of Indian cuisine, but I absolutely love Lolita. The food, including starters and sides, is beautiful. Staff are very helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is quiet and pleasant. Lolita may be a bit more expensive than other Indian restaurants, but it is definitely worth it. Due to its location on the first floor of a building it can be a bit hard to spot if you don’t know it’s there, which I think is why Lolita is not as widely known as it should be. I don't understand how people can give bad reviews. If they don't read the menu properly that's their own fault. We never had any reason at all to complain. The only real danger is that it can be a bit addictive :)

Great food, very tasty. Service is not great as the staff are quite pushy at getting you to order food and extras that you might not necessarily want. You also cannot get a glass of tap water, you must order a bottle of water and pay! This kind of service takes away from the fact that the food is great.

My boyfriend and I eat here maybe once a month the food is beautiful I have never had a bad meal in Lolita and the atmosphere and setting is so warm and friendly. I don't know how people can give bad reviews on this place the food is well flavoured, and service is always great. Favourite Indian Restaurant in Belfast. A bit more expensive than a few but I think that's why so many people write bad reviews, but you get what you pay for and this place is definitely worth it.

Went to Lolita last week and it was excellent. Very warm welcome at the door, our coats quickly taken and shown to our seats. Food was excellent, chicken jal jal was hot and spicy and the tandoori chicken sizzling and succulent. Poppodums and dips were excellent as was the naan. Russell served us all evening and deserves special mention-he was very friendly, polite and really bent over backwards for us. I will be back again and again.

Food was fine however the soggy bag of salad and the fact the restaurant forgot to deliver the free bottle of wine did not assist in helping wash the meal down!!

Visited here on Tuesday 27th with 3 others to use a groupon deal I had purchased. On arrival out groupon coupon was taken from us and we were seated. Being left with the menus for around 20 minutes the waiter came to take our order (Russell). We ordered our starters, mains, 4 rices a portion of chunky chips and 2 nan breads, the waiter was quite abrupt and told us that chips weren't part of the groupon and would be charged which we were fine with. No popadoms were offered and after a while our starters arrived. Nothing special and have had much nicer only a stones throw away from here. Mains arrived and 3 pilau rices arrived in one bowl and a seperate bowl for 1 boiled rice. Our chunky chips arrived in the form of French fries? And the Nans looking nothing like the garlic and chill/coriander ones that we ordered. Having ordered a madras I found it extremely mild and one if our company ordered jalfrezi which tasted very pastey almost pataks like as mentioned in a previous review. The shock came when we asked for the bill and it arrived and we had been charged for the chips and both of the Nans. I looked the groupon up in my emails and seen that the offer was for 4 starters, 4 mains with rices and 4 sides. So we queried the charges and the rude waiter quickly pointed out that nan breads are sundries and not side dishes. We asked why we hadn't been offered sides and his response was that his job wasnt to tell us what the offer included even though they had taken our coupon away as soon as we arrived so we hadn't it with us to use as a guide. Also £2.50 for a child's sprite! Needless to say I won't set foot in the place again. The food doesn't come close to what I've had in other Indian restaurants and the service and attitude of Russell was pure sneaky & ignorant. Take a trip across the road to Indie Spice where you will see what a real Indian Restaurant tastes like and service is top notch!

I visited this restaurant recently with friends, and just wanted to share the fact that it isnt great value for money. Surroundings are lovely, and staff friendly and efficient....but the prices are high, for what you get, and customers should pay attention to items listed on the menu as extras... and I am referring to items normally regarded as 'included'. When ordering, I discovered that rice is listed separately as a 'side dish' and as such there is an extra charge for it. Also surprising was that sauces are priced individually....very unusual. I would also like to say that the food was just ok, and not particulrly well seasoned. I know with Indian food, spice and flavour is very much a personal thing, and one of individual taste. I am not a great fan of extremely hot or spicey food, and even I found a lot of the dishes to be a bit bland. I won't be going back to this establishment, despite the friendly ambience and friendly staff.

Indian is my favourite so my wife and I looked forward to eating at Lolita's for a first time experience; a Groupon deal. The food ordered and served, starters and main course, were excellent as to quality and quantity ... but ...My wife was seated against a wall where the air conditioning was blowing directly onto her ... we asked for a move but tables were taken, so we were told. Following the starters, two mains dishes arrived .. but not the ones we ordered. Once the correct order was set down we started to enjoy our meal ... until a garlic nan was set down, which we hadn't ordered but ... the waiter let us keep it, courtesy of the house. The meal was excellent... then ... we ordered two coffee's which, we were told, would take a bit of time as they were busy ... half an hour later no coffee so i went to pay my bill only to find out they had no coffee ... ok ... why did no one inform us ...?I will revisit this Indian as the food was excellent ... but, the management need to train the staff as to orders placed and customer service ...

A couple of months ago my wife picked up a Groupon offer for Lolita - and last night we had an opportunity to use it. I had been to Lolita a couple of years ago and I remembered it to be very good then - but with having young kids we don't get out that often. However a £23 Groupon deal (starter / main / rice / one other side for 2 people) for this indian restaurant was too good to turn down. The service was friendly - they offered us a nice table - quickly asked us if we wanted aperitifs - took our orders promptly and efficiently and brought the courses in good order. The average starter is probably £4.50 and main £12 (rice and sides extra). We both agreed the 4 dishes we had - as well as our side dishes - were delicious. The service was just as we like it - attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant is clean and well laid out so that you don't sit too close to other diners. The cleanliness of an establishment can often also be measured by the state of the loos and the toilet was faultless in that regard - and they even have that nice little touch of having small handtowels for drying your hands. We paid a tenner on top of our Groupon coupon for one small and one large Cobra beer and a sprite - and of course we left a tip - so in total it cost £38. Without the coupon the meal would have cost another £20 or so - but even then it would have been a good value meal. All told - if I wanted to go out for another Indian meal - I would not look any further than another trip to Lolita on the Stranmillis Road.

We ate here on a Sunday evening in a party of 6. It was difficult to engage the waiting staff though we did try. The wine was good value as was the Groupon deal on the food. However we had some difficulty getting our food while it was still hot otherwise the food would have been good! Lovely flavours and spices....... Disappointing restaurant but not as bad of some of the previous reviews! We had a nice round table in the window.

Have been dining in Lolita for years, food was always gorgeous, atmosphere lovely and it was always an experience not just a meal, went couple weeks ago, new owner (half owner) sooooo rude, talked to his staff like dirt (might I add this is staff who have worked there for years and have always been so nice to us as customers), new owner then pushed waiter out of way and came to take our order, food came and it was nothing like it usually was, bland, bland and didnt even complain as I could tell what the answer would of been. if we hear the other owner is back in charge we will def be back but until then, no thanks which is such a pitty as loved Lolita!! Also no free sambuca

I went with my wife & family last Thursday evening and had such a terrible experience that I feel compelled to warn others. Our table was booked for 8pm but the restaurant was extremely busy so we had to wait 15 mins or so for our table, which we didn't mind. We did start to get annoyed when nobody came to take our order though. After asking for a waiter, we ordered. We were told 5 minutes or so after ordering that half of the starters that we ordered were actually unavailable. A member of staff threw menus at us and impatiently hovered over us waiting for us to pick an alternative. We noticed that we weren't the only table who were obviously hungry and slowly but surely losing the will to live. We had to ask several times what the hold up was but they just kept saying "5 minutes". Our main courses eventually arrived at our table at 10 pm (nearly 2 hours later). We ordered naan bread for our table which never arrived and basmati rice which also never appeared. We wouldn't have minded as much, had the staff appeared to give a toss about us or any of the other customers there, but sadly their attitude completely stank. The problem on this particular night, apart from the rudeness of the staff, was the fact that they kept letting people in off the street when they obviously couldn't cope with the numbers that they already had in the restaurant. Complete and utter greed. I have never seen so many people complain at a restaurant in my life and will not be darkening the doors of Lolita again.

My wife and I booked a table for 8:30 on Thursday evening and we arrived 5 mins before then. When we arrived there was a queue inside the door but nobody came and spoke to us. I eventually went in and asked a waiter if our table for 8:30 was ready. He very curtly replied "Another 5 or 10 mins go back in the queue." Eventually at 8:50 we were seated. We ordered our starter and a bottle of wine. They were served about 9:05. At 9:50 I enquired as to why our main course was taking so long to which the rude waiter just told me another 5 or 10 mins....and no sign of an apology. Eventually at 10:15 with still no main course we decided to give up so we just stood up and walked out. Worst experience in a restaurant that my wife and I have experienced in a long time. We certainly won't be back again. Will stick to our usual Bengal Brasserie instead.

Visited the restaurant this evening with a table booked for 730. Table not ready, no explanation, just wait outside, unbelievable. The Indian waiters were just ignorant and rude. The oriental waitresses were very pleasant but over worked. Delivery of food to the table was akin to an army mess with plates banged down in front of you. Food was actually very good but served in the style of a modern day faulty towers. Would we go back, no will be returning to the jahana on Lisburn Road which is excellent all round.

My partner and I heard good reviews about this restaurant from a few friends so we decided to try it out for ourselves last night. On arrival the waiters did not greet us straight away, the waiter turned his back to us at the till and left us standing up near the bar area for a few good minutes.Five minutes after being seated we still had not received any menus! My partner requested the menus and was answered with a grunt from the waiter and he threw the menus on the table. He took our drink orders (1 red wine and 1 beer), snatched up the wine glasses and off he went - he then realised his mistake and had to bring down the wine glass to the table again. After sitting at the table for around 10-15 minutes our order still hadn't been taken so again my partner had to get up to ask the waiter to come take our order. After placing our order we had to wait 40 minutes for 2 main meals, 1 rice and 1 nan!!! They brought out the 2 mains and rice and the waiter mentioned that he was going back for the nan. Next time we saw him he was serving another couple!! 5 minutes later our nan arrived (after half the meal was eaten)The food was ok, small portions and not very authentic. I have been in India and have never tasted anything like this at all.If you want bad service, grumpy waiters, average food at very expensive prices then Lolita is the place to be.

Visited early Sunday and the place was very busy. We had the chicken pakura and tuna for starters followed by tikka massala and nepali chilli beef. All four very tasty indeed but ask for more chillies if you prefer it quite hot. Nice layout with plenty of elbow room, however felt the staff could be a bit more friendlier. Wouldn't out me off going again though. Nice experience and well worth the value (used voucher).

I thoroughly enjoyed the meal i had here last week. The restaurant itself is clean and modern. The aircon was a blessing. I totally disagree with previous reviews regarding the staff. I found the staff exceptionally helpful, considerate and attentive. We engaged in conversation and found them interesting to talk to. The recommendations of seabass and jalfrezi proved to be excellent. The strters were delightful too - prawns and a mixed platter. We used a groupon voucher and did not feel that we were treated any differently. The portion sizes were very good. I was slighly disappointed with the keema nan. The staff were quick to point out we had another side dish that we could order. I will be back - in fact just purchased another voucher this morning.

I really liked the layout of the restaurant and the atmosphere and the voiles separating some of the tables was a nice touch. The portion sizes were pretty good and the food arrived very quickly but I wasn't blown away by my main course! I really enjoyed my king prawn starter which was a decent size but felt that my rogan josh main course, whilst nice, wasn't anything spectacular, particularly given the price. It is a slightly overpriced restaurant.I probably would have given a better rating but I was a bit put off my the attitude of some of the staff and the management. We had ordered a bottle of wine which had not been put on our bill and the thought crossed my mind to say nothing and leave but I decided to do the honest thing and tell them but was a bit annoyed when they just snatched the bill off us, saying nothing and slamming down the revised bill. We mentioned to the waitress that it would have been nice just to have been thanked for our honesty. She was really nice and passed this on to the manager who then came and said that he had told one of the other guys to give us a discount but as he hasn't done this he would offer us a free drink. We weren't really looking for freebies but just a bit more gratitude and appreciation in the first place would have been enough. Generally they weren't overally friendly. If they sorted out their customer service side a bit more and tried to be a bit more welcoming this would be a pretty decent restaurant but at the moment I prefer some of the other Indian restaurants in belfast.

Food was reasonably nice but service abysmal. Felt like we were rushed through as quickly as possible with no more than 10minutes between starter and main and it was a conveyer belt of customers even with a booking time of 7.30. Plates slammed on the table. Had to remind staff 3/4 times to bring drinks over and told what we would receive as a big group vs any choice from the menu. Wouldn’t recommend if you want a stress free meal, ironic they advertise for waiting staff with experience in hospitality when current staff had none.

Chicken butter masala was too sweet, as an indian food it should be spicy, atleast minimal spicy but it was too sweet. Disappointed 🙃
