The restaurant is part of Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa. The breakfast, is poor quality ingredients which are largely tasteless. The milk jug was dirty, the staff seemed miserable (expect for two chaps who were welcoming and happy). All in all, very poor and I won’t be back.

What a beautiful place ❤️ We have been to the hotel many times before so we were keen to see the changes which have been made recently. In our opinion, it was already perfect, yet our experience post renovations was beyond perfection! The newly appointed entrance is wonderful and we were greeted, as always, with warmth and a genuine desire to look after us. We had a wonderful meal at a table overlooking the stunning lake and hills view. The food was delicious, service excellent and the decor outstanding. We enjoyed it so much, we returned again a few days later! Looking forward to visiting again soon. ❤️

We have visited the Lake View Restaurant 3 times but this time we were very disappointed. Not impressed with the new look brasserie or it's menu. It appears to have dishes that are easy to prepare eg from the grill. Last year there was monkfish, seabass, with lovely sauces now it is seabream on the bone from the grill and fairly tasteless. Last year it cost £60 per head this year it was £74 per head. It appears the hotel has chosen the fast food route!!

The venue and the staff combined with good food made an excellent experience. We had a lovely evening meal the starter and main was delicious but the sweets that we had were underwhelming and lacked the quality of the rest of the meal. Perhaps thinking about it 4 stars may be more appropriate only for that reason. The prices aren’t over the top for the level of quality and would definitely return.

Drove an hour to take my parents (85 and 90) for a light lunch in the lake view lounge today. I’d noticed they weren’t doing Sunday lunch due to an event, but as we only wanted a tea cake or a sandwich, that didn’t stop us going. Unfortunately, when we arrived we were told no food at all was being served to non- residents in the lounges or conservatory. Why not state this on the website and save two elderly people a round trip of 2 hours. Annoying and disappointing.

Visited the ladore falls restaurant for a treat on Saturday. The staff and atmosphere were wonderful and the Christmas decorations amazing but the food was moderate at best…. Cheese soufflé was a cross between a cheese scone and sponge cake, cod was completely overpowered with sourkraut and the mill-fuille was still frozen through. When we sent it back the restaurant manager came back to explain that it was “frozen instead of using gelatin to set” ! Worst excuse ever for a rubbish desert ! Such a shame ! We won’t be rushing back

I thought I’d booked for the Mizu Pan Asian. I went on the website clicked on this and then got a chatbot asking what I wanted to do. I clicked ‘book a table’ and thought I had. Transpired I booked for the Lake View restaurant. We went to the Asian one which had no tables free - we’d been recommended here by the place we were staying at - but had to eat in the main hotel restaurant. Food was bang average, expensive and small portions. I had the monkfish and the veg was salty. I had the pear crumble for dessert which was a take on a crumble. Advice to restaurants: crumble is best when it’s done traditionally. This one was tasteless and consisted of a poached pear in a ramekin with oat crumble which was tasteless. We’d eaten in four other pubs and restaurants on our visit to the Lakes all of which knocked spots off this one. My son had been here last week and he said the Asian restaurant was really nice but the Lake View one was average at best and overpriced.

Booked here for Sunday lunch as a treat. Not eaten here before. We were greeted and shown to our table, which was in a corner. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. Our order was taken quite promptly. We had also ordered a couple of drinks, which arrived with the starters. We felt a bit rushed at this stage as we would have liked the drinks before the food. One of the starter plates was removed when empty while the other one was still in use. Normally plates are removed together when empty, so we found this unusual. The main courses arrived after a reasonable wait time. We were however disappointed with them. The Yorkshire puddings were very overdone and difficult to cut and largely inedible. (We mentioned this when the plates were cleared. With hindsight we should probably have sent them back). There was only one slice of meat on the plate together with a lot of roast potatoes. Veg were served in a separate dish and there was a reasonable amount. Desserts were quite nice, although the sticky toffee sauce was thin compared to others we have had. We had to keep asking for water to be refilled, as no-one was checking at the table to see if everything was alright, and it was not easy to attract staff attention as at times there seemed to be a dearth of staff. When we asked for the bill, we had to find someone outside the restaurant to pay it as no-one came back to the table. The price for a 3 course lunch is not unreasonable but for some of the food quality it was overpriced. Overall we were disappointed with our experience and won’t be returning.

We came here for an evening meal and the food was really nice! My only negative would be that they ran out of the salt age beef croquette by 8pm so we had to order a different starter. I’d recommend booking early to avoid disappointment of not having what you want on the menu. The staff were really nice, we were served by a new starter so had to order drinks twice. I’d definitely be back as the food is to of a high standard!

Really disappointed with the afternoon tea. The quality was poor - and certainly not home made. Some items we just took one bite of and left and we usually eat everything! The scones were nice but the jam was cheap and arrived in what can only be described as a “slice” Service was “inattentive” - had to look for people to order more drinks. There was no offer of additional coffee or tea or asking if we wanted anything else. The place could do with a good clean - cobwebs hanging from the curtains above us which was a bit off putting.

We had breakfast in this restaurant while staying at Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa. The service was lovely, the gentleman had no issues swapping any bits on the menu around for us. The seats were comfortable, the surroundings were beautiful. The decor was elegant. You choose an item from the hot breakfast menu and they make it fresh to order. The continental breakfast was lovely. So many things to choose from. We weren’t able to sample everything as we’d have been too full. Very pleasant. Would like to try the evening meal here but we loved Mizu so much would be difficult to tempt us away. Maybe we need to come earlier in the day and have lunch at one and dinner at the other. Definitely a win and would make us book to stay again based on the breakfast experience. You need to pre book though as the hotel prefer this. It wasn’t busy at the time we ate.

We were staying at the Lodore Falls hotel for a birthday trip for my partner and ate at the restaurant for one evening meal and 2 breakfasts. We thought the food was outstanding. I had the scallops with crispy pork belly and red wine jus - big juicy scallops and tasted incredible. Other half had the ham hock terrine which he really enjoyed (even if a bit jealous of mine!). For mains we both had the flat iron steak - wow the best steak we’ve had in a very long time. They were both cooked perfectly - charred on the outside and lovely and blushing pink through the middle. All the accompaniments (tomato, mushroom, chips) were to the same high standard and the peppercorn sauce was perfect. The kind of meal you eat with a smile on your face and you don’t want to be over! We had a bottle of the Argentinian Malbec, delicious. We were both very full at this point but couldn’t resist the sticky toffee pudding - to share. In addition to the food being awesome, the service here is really top class. Special mention to Maddy who made sure we were looked after and Daisy who did very well and what was I think her first night on the job! We had mentioned to Maddy that it was my partners birthday the following day - the reason for our trip. When they bought the dessert out they had put a candle in and sang happy birthday to him. Maddy also remembered and wished him happy birthday the following morning at breakfast - she really is a star.

The Mizu restaurant looks amazing, however the food is disappointing. Our meal was part of the spa package but did not live up to the wonderful experience of the spa. The starter was lovely but the main stir fry course was far too salty to the point of inedible , the silken Tofu was like eating slop. Did not order a dessert as did not want to be disappointed again. Beware of asking for water, £4.30 a bottle ! Disappointing let dow to an otherwise perfect day.

Had lunch in Mizu as part of a spa day. The spa package allocated 1hour for lunch which presumably the restaurant were aware of this unfortunately despite a promising start with our order being taken promptly and the timely arrival of our starters. Most other tables had been and gone before we got our main courses. The delay meant we missed 30mins of our 2 hr spa session. The meal itself was tasteless and disappointing which was such a shame as the restaurant, hotel and spa surroundings are beautifully appointed.

We waited 45 minutes for a platter of cold food and a portion of chips. It’s a beautiful hotel, a lovely light airy bar with luxurious furnishings and a great view of Derwent water. The platter wasn’t as described no pork pie, two thin slices of sausage roll instead, no cheese at all and no chutney. This was produced when we asked, but there was no apology. Some of the salad leaves were slimy and the artisan bread wasn’t impressive for £28. The food ordered on the table next to us was also messed up completely. However, if you need a clean toilet and a very comfortable chair to relax for a while as you make your way round Derwent water it’s not bad!

We had high hopes for the afternoon tea in the famous Lodore, it was empty when we arrived and sat near the window for the view. We were asked what we would like to drink, I had a double espresso and my wife had earl grey tea. We didn’t have any dietary requirements so the savoury tea arrived, there was no pork pie it was a sausage roll, sandwiches were all on white bread not as advertised, there was no mustard on the ham one, the trout caviar came on a sweet tasting cake and you couldn’t taste the trout. The salmon bagel seemed stale. The cakes were very disappointing, the green thing on a soggy chocolate biscuit made me retch, others were dry, carrot cake was ok. Then when leaving we got charged £4 extra for something, for the cost we expected a nice afternoon tea after a stressful day to pick us both up, instead we left laughing at such a dismal display and how not to do a tea!

We stopped off from the boat ride to have lunch & bike on to see Lodore Falls. Upon entering the hotel, it was comfortable & charming. We arrived just before it got busier. We placed our order at the bar, waited too long for tea & our 3 lunches did not come out together. The waiters were taking food & beverages to all the wrong tables & as it got more crowded the service for us & others became slower & more hectic. We recognized one of our sandwich plates as it went around the entire room looking for the person who ordered it. One of the dishes we ordered was the Margharita pizza. It was doughy & near tasteless. The fish sandwich was good but the fires in the fancy cup were old & cold. Had we not paid in advance, we would have sent the pizza back, & no one had the time to stop & ask how everything was. Nice looking hotel, well dressed servers but disappointing food & service.

We ordered the luxury afternoon tea for two and we were disappointed with what we received. The tea was just normal twinings tea bags rather than nice loose tea which we would expect at an afternoon tea. The savoury part of the meal consisted of a sausage roll and some sandwiches, they were all very average and the sausage roll was not even warmed up. The scones were also not warm and were quite hard. The cakes were the only part of the afternoon tea which were nice and what we had expected from the meal.Overall the staff were polite and friendly, however the food was very disappointing especially as the Lodore is a 4 star hotel.

The Lake View restaurant is one of two restaurants at LodoreFalls Hotel. It is a bit more formal than their other restaurant. You have lovely views of the lake. The staff are professional and courteous. The food served is pan European. The presentation is very nice and the flavours are of a high standard too. This restaurant is a nice way to finish a perfect spa day with a special romantic meal.

This hotel is a surprise, out in the countryside and very few villages nearby. Extensively modernised and a brand new spa has been built next door with an infinity pool. The hotel seems very popular with locals for functions - they had about 20 weddings in the previous month. Staff work hard and manage to serve residents and functions without and problems. One unusual fact is that dogs on leads are allowed in the lounges and bars - is strangely calming to find oneself sitting beside a large labrador or a small poodle even if they're not your own dogs. Thoroughly recommend this place for a short break the only caveat being that the menu in the main dining room doesn't very during the week.

As I said in the title, can’t fault the food. Table service a little inconsisten, some extra customer service training needed for the staff. A little more charisma from the front of house wouldn’t go a miss.

Visited with my partner and our dog. We decided to stop here after a walk and sit in the garden area outside as it was a hot day. We only ordered drinks but the staff were very attentive and very helpful! I ordered a gin. The bar staff ran out of a particular flavour but they were very quick to replace it, make my drink and serve it to the table. When arriving at the table they noticed our dog, offered him dog biscuits and brought some fresh water outside for him. This was a lovely touch! We did not have food so I cannot comment on that but it did look nice as it was being served!

No me impresionó.

The food at this restaurant is nothing short of amazing. I've not been for a couple of years but I wasn't disappointed. Fantastic staff and sensational food. I can't recommend it high enough - even with the competition of the recently opened Mizu restaurant, the standards at the Lake View are brilliant.

We booked in for afternoon after I was gifted a voucher from work when I was leaving to having our baby. The hotel has had a lovely makeover but although the afternoon tea was nice, it wasn’t a patch on how lovely it was a couple of years ago so we were left a little disappointed. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive though. Would I go back for afternoon tea....sadly not, unless it reverts to how it used to be.

This is a review of the bar service at Lodore Falls Hotel. Unseasonably sunny weather meant we could sit outside for light lunch which had great views for drinks and eating outdoors. Currently extensive landscaping interrupts the peace somewhat. Despite lovely ambience and promising bar menu the ham sandwich was really dull. For £8-15 I expected good quality, perhaps home-baked bread and hand carved ham. Instead the thick sliced bread was dry and the ham filling was unexceptional and thin. The service was disappointing as staff didn’t seem very interested. I had to ask for cutlery and a napkin, as I wasn’t sure how else to eat the coleslaw and chips that were served with the sandwich.

We had a much better meal and experience on this visit. The attention to detail is still slightly lacking....the waiters don't refill the wine, just a small point but I've never been to a good restaurant where this is the case. The only other teeny complaint is that we weren't offered "seconds" with the bread. However. I'm being picky. The food I thought was really good, and that, after all, is the point!

There doesn't appear to be a separate listing for lunch in the lounge bar as opposed to the restaurant. This is a good sized comfortable lounge, very plush but still informal enough for you to stop off after rambling. Good quality food with a fair selection including sandwiches and pizza. Prices fairly reasonable.

We enjoy trying different restaurants in the local area but we book this hotel because the food is so good here. Bar meals, afternoon teas, and of course the Lake View restaurant. You really can see the lake and also a stunning view of Cat Bells. Good food served well. Beautiful surroundings, comfortable and spacious. Whole hotel (and the restaurant) kept in good order with out the sweeping money wasting refurbs so common in some places. Lodore Falls gets the balance right, slow change, taste full, good quality updates. I cant wait for the new block to be open however and to see the new spa. Will return as soon as possible.

Was expecting to be wowed but wasn’t. Looks impressive nice inside but attitude of a few staff and niggly things let it down. My daughter took me for lunch for my birthday she had a voucher for 3 course lunch for 2. 1st niggle parked at front and asked one of the staff if this was ok recently broke my back have brace on and using crutches so no disabled sticker car park was not busy. O no you can’t do that you will have to drop her off and park across the road then go get car and pick her up. Fair enough I suppose but this set the scene. Couldn’t sit at sofa to eat because difficult with back so we waited for table at window then moved ourselves going back and too getting our drinks and belongings fair enough!! 2, value of the voucher. Was given differing values on the phone but staff said £17.90 each. so no way you can get 3course lunch each for that you can pay the difference at reception. Voucher is for Sunday lunch she said but restaurant not open nothing on the voucher that says that. Fair enough. 3, I am gluten free my daughter rang on three occasions to confirm this was ok no problem you don’t have to book we can also do GF afternoon tea if you want fair enough. 4 we settled on a burger mine between two pieces of bread it came on a narrow wooden board very basic but tasty was a little spicy no mention on the menu it was ok numerous trips to bar for cutlery. Pudding another trip to bar to see what’s GF you can have ice cream wow ice cream !! I’ll se what else we have so she rang kitchen options were brownie flapjack or gf scone good job I didn’t opt for afternoon tea I told her, well you would have to book it really not what we were told on the telephone but fair enough. I had gf scones they were ok. Waitress was a bit short but then changed her attitude and was friendly think she heard us talking.. went to pay standing at the bar overheard a lady almost complaining they were getting drinks as there room was not ready at 3pm waitress was short with her made her drinks one a cocktail with a piece of celery in it to stir it, it was brown and mucky and dried at the top just come out of plastic packet at back of the bar not washed or trimmed pretty shabby service. We eventually paid bill was £5 under value but paid £5 for drinks just wanted out. The value we discovered was for £40 but I suppose we can save that in petrol not going to the place again. Toilets are nice lovely friendly staff stacking towels give her a job on the bar she would be an asset. Style over substance this place

We have now been at the hotel for a few days and can report positive and negative factors. Firstly the room. Whilst located at the back of the hotel the room is a good size and comfortable with views over the hills and woods behind the hotel. In relation to the restaurant the evening food has been okay - small and not exciting. You get in with he DBB rate a very basic 3 course menu and have to pay extra to upgrade to the improved menu). The standard menu is basic and definitely not value for money. Breakfast on the other hand has been great. A good selection, great quality and very tasty. When you read the hotel guide you are told that if you wish a change you can eat at of the other hotels in the group. Unfortunately when we requested this we were told it was only available if you had paid full rate when you booked. As we were on an offer we could not eat at the other hotels. After a bit of complaining they agreed we could however rather then the full dinner rate (of £36) we were then informed that we would only be given £20 per person.

We stayed at the hotel as part of a Secret Escapes deal that included a 3 courses evening meal. There is an option to upgrade to the taster menu and it is well worth the supplement. Food is faultless at this restaurant. We have enjoyed many a visit as guests of the hotel but the standard of the menu choices, presentation and food itself is wonderful. There is lots of variety and the five course dinner option is particularly good. We’ve only dined there as hotel guests but the set menu is really good value if visiting independently. The vegetarian menu is also lovely and I have eaten from this despite being a meat eater. Little touches like the amuse bouche and sorbets mid meal are welcoming and refreshing, as is the choices of breads on offer. Staff are also great. Needless to say after four nights of five course dinners and full Cumbrian breakfasts the next day (breakfasts are also excellent), I needed the hills and scenery to walk them off. Do not hesitate to go.

We visited here on a Saturday evening and chose the winter 5 course menu. The food was not only beautifully presented but tasted absolutely delicious. The meal started with a salt cod Amuse Bouche, a little fishy for me but my husband enjoyed mine and his. I followed with the confit of chicken, then the most amazing sorbet I have ever tasted. For mains I had the lamb rump, which was my least favourite of the dishes and for dessert I had the Black Forest. A cherry mouse encased in dark chocolate, absolutely mouthwatering. The service was impeccable. We will definitely be back. Well done

The Lodore Falls is a lovely location, with a contemporary feel, which should deliver great food. Unfortunately, they failed to deliver on food - even at the most basic level. Fish and chips arrived with raw fish wrapped in uncooked batter. After being returned to the kitchen it came back - same fish had been dropped back in the fryer and returned with fish cooked but now encased in batter that was burnt on the outside and still uncooked beneath. Even for a home cook it was quite obvious that the batter was too thick, and simply unbelievable that the kitchen would send a dish out in such a state. What a shame, so much potential from such a great location frittered away with simply terrible cooking.

What a lovely restaurant with fabulous food and great staff. We were staying close by and had seen great reviews about the restaurant so we had to try it….not just once but two nights in a row it was that good. On the first night my husband had lamb shoulder which was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone, I had salmon and prawns which were equally as good. The second night it was seafood platter for my husband and sweet and sour chicken for me. Both meals were very good and it was great to have so much to choose from. It was a pleasant change to be able to choose the accompaniment to the meals rather than just chips with salad or veg. The staff were very attentive and polite. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant.
