We drove some narrow back roads for a couple hours, without seeing a restaurant and came upon this sweet gem! It was lunchtime on a Saturday and the An Cala Cafe looked to be the only place open in the whole village. It is adjoining a “bunkhouse”. Very clean restrooms! I had a BLT on the best brioche. My husband had a langoustine salad that he liked very much. Their coffee was the best I have had in Scotland. Give it a try!

Booked a room before I changed my mind on the very same day, and asked for a refund (totally OK according to their policy). Several weeks later, still haven't received the refund. Looks like a scam really.

We arrived at 1:55 and were welcomed, despite the lunch service finishing at 2. Excellent food- good quality local produce, great choice from menu and specials board and generous servings. We had fishcakes with chips and salad, and crab salad. Excellent customer service from diligent and friendly staff. We also brought a dog, and were sat in a lovely dog friendly area. Would return again next time we are in Lochinver.

We were three adults and all ordered something different. Venison pie was very tender and tasty, the veggie Wellington was amazingly flavoursome And the monkfish scampi was a huge portion with lovely thin crispy batter covering big chunks of monkfish . I would also highly recommend the lemon tart for dessert. The service was very efficient with the food arriving quickly after ordering. The staff were pleasant and helpful. All in all I would return and recommend An Cala as THE place to eat in Lochinver.

I had the Cullen Skink and it was just amazing and perfect after our walk. Filling and tasty. My wife had the Crab Ciabatta and it was beautiful & tasty too. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and I would certainly recommend the cafe.

An Cala has always been our favourite place to eat in Lochinver so when friends came to stay with us it was high on the list for a lunch venue. On arrival had very good Covid measures in place and we were asked to go to the till to place our order. We asked if we could sit outside in the sun , we were told yes but could only order from the takeaway menu. I choose the club sandwich only to be told that I couldn't have that as they didn't have a box big enough for it ( why have it on the menu then?) Placed the rest of our order and went outside , and our drinks were brought out pretty quickly . When our meal arrived we were very disappointed, normally when we have the ciabattashere they come with salad, coleslaw and crisps which is fine for £6.95 but when you are just given a ciabatta roll in a plastic container I think that is a little bit of a rip off. We asked the lad serving of we could have some sauce sachets , and he came back with one packet of ketchup between 4 of us! I really could not understand why the meals could not be served on plates , outside of Covid they are served that way outside and were being being served on plates inside . The amount of plastic waste that was being produced by serving that way was awful as the full bin outside displayed. We were also disappointed that when people at the 2 other outside tables left no 'one cleaned or sprayed down the tables as they were doing inside . Surely that is a basic requirement of cleaning regulations for eateries in the current crisis. Just feel if you are not offering the same amount of food they should reduce their prices to pay £34 for 4 rolls and 4 cans of drink was a bit much and has spoilt our previous high regard for this cafe

Nice enough cafe with friendly staff. The service was very slow though. The food was good. They seem to have good covid restrictions in place however they were that busy that they would say they’d clean a table, you'd wait outside for 10 minutes and then return to sit at the table. After sitting down and touching everything someone would then come and say the table wasn't yet clear. This happened to ourselves as well as to another family while we were there.

This appeared to be the only place open for lunch today, Monday. We visited early 12 ish and there was plenty of seating inside and out with sensible COVID precautions. Hubbie and I shared the delicious chicken goujon stater - I have never tasted such light and crispy batter!!!! We both opted for the Cajun chicken burger - a fresh large roll full of chicken breast and fresh salad, it was also extremely tasty.i opted for choc fudge cake and hubbie had shortbread mincemeat slice. Both were totally perfect. Staff were very friendly and attentive even though they were busy, the toilets were spotless. All food leaving the kitchen looked beautifully presented and portions were generous. Thank you An Cala - we enjoyed our ride out to you and your fabulous food.

We are regular visitors to this restaurant. It might be wrong to call it a cafe as the food they serve is certainly top quality restaurant food (cafe type snacks, tea and coffee and cakes are always available as well as sandwiches, etc) Always a great choice of all types of food freshly prepared using fresh produce. Served in a quick and friendly manner in an unfussy assortment of tables and with a dog friendly room there is space for everyone. Great fish courses but a great choice of differing foods for all. No table licence as yet (to change we believe for 2020) and no corkage charge!A great asset and well worth a visit at any time. Doesn't stay open too late so check times for evenings.

Found this place last year whilst on holiday. Been back 4 times this year. Exceptional food at reasonable prices although £1.85 for a can of Coke seems a bit steep. Lasagne is best I've ever tasted. We (x 2) stayed in Heron on Fri 29th June. The room was very hot and duvets suffocating (although I appreciate this is unusual hot weather). We arrived fairly late and my sheets had not been changed - too late to do anything about this. With the window open the blind rattled loudly all night until someone closed the window which made the room unbearably hot- my friend ended up sleeping on the sofa. Too many beds in such a small room - plus why is there a double bed - we found this very strange to have a couple sleeping together in a shared room. Also no towel provided - for a costly £25 I would expect one.

We had just done a 14 mile walk and climb up Suilven and found this café/restaurant by chance. It was one of the hottest days of the year. We were starving and thirsty after our day and had the best fish and chips and mushy peas here. Also ice cold coke to quench our thirst. Service was friendly and fast, lovely and clean and toilets too. Large portions and very fresh fish.

This is a very nice, understated cafe. The Fish and C hips from the main menu is lovely., Nice fresh fish. The staff are friendly and its a great place to acces Wi-fi in a remote area. I’d say to the manager that the main menu they show does not do the place any justice at all, The menu looks boring, if I’d looked at that first we may not have entered, b jut the food is lovely. Ni9ce cakes and lots of specials on the board.

Tasty food with a great view of Lochness. The staff are lovely and they have a good selection of whisky. Good value 3 course meal deal.

Très agréable situation entre 2 ballades, service très prévenant. Des plats typiques, abordables. Le top après une journée de tourisme.

Superb special, beef and cashew stir fry. Really tasty and colourful 😋 full of flavour. (Photo is half portion as eating out tonight!)

After poor experiences in Oban and Fort William this place restored our faith in a Scottish breakfast and hospitality. Great service, even better breakfast made with quality ingredients.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
