Sorry, saw this in Scotland Tourist info as rated in the top 5 seafood shacks in Scotland. Chips were tasteless, fish was burnt and tasteless and salmon was certainly not like any hot smoked salmon I have eaten before. We have been to all the others in the list and they are kings compared to this.

Superb food in a dramatic storm! On return from a trip to the Bass Rock in rainy but calm weather, we stopped at the harbour for lunch from the shack. Excellent chowder, really creamy and tasty and a Cajun prawn roll which my son said was difficult to eat because it was so generously filled. The storm came as we ate and added to the experience, sitting in the tented eating area with the rain lashing down. Good fun and good food.

I was in North Berwick for the week to go to some of the events at Fringe By The Sea as well as a day at the Edinburgh Fringe. One afternoon I had been exploring the harbour area before I went to see The Stranglers at the festival that evening. I came across The Lobster Shack by chance and after reading the menu I decided to have my dinner there. I chose squid, chips and a Harvestoun ale. It was superb in every way. I had it in their covered seating area overlooking the harbour. I'd been on the road for a month at this point and this was my favourite meal of my summer adventure. The experience was just one of those moments in time (I call them 'soul moments') that will be a lifelong happy memory

A visit to the Lobster Shack for a lobster meal on July 23rd prompted this review. I suggest you drop the word “lobster” from the name. You laughed when I said the meal was terrible, and the worst meal we had had for a long time. When I mentioned that there had been virtually no meat in the lobster, I was told “lobsters are like people; they come in all shapes and sizes”. This has to be the most crass comment ever made to a customer with a complaint. There was no suggestion of what size of lobster constituted the meal. Ours was so small I’m actually surprised it was allowed in the catch. It appears, then, that it is pot luck as to what you receive. Had we been using normal implements, there was just sufficient for one forkful of tail meat each and no more. Using the claw crackers was well nigh impossible. The claws were too small, and being covered in butter meant they were difficult to handle. The amount of meat we managed to recover was negligible. We might as well have thrown the 47.95 into the sea for the lobsters to eat! Having read in several sources that this establishment was one of the reasons to visit North Berwick, we wondered if anyone who had written the articles had ever actually been there. It would have been pleasant if we had been offered our money back, but there was so little evidence of customer service on display, that was not forthcoming.

Have visited before but today we had the most disgraceful treatment . Despite ordering and discussing a gluten free option , the staff were heard loudly discussing what an inconvenience it was , and then added derogatory comments about someone's fake allergies or intolerances . When then confronted , the staff member offered a very lackluster apology along with alot of jeering from her colleagues as we walked away ! Anyone with any type of allergy or intolerance should steer well clear of this establishment as they may also be literally laughed at . A very unpleasant situation , needless to say will not be returning .

Having checked out menu it looked very appetising! what we ended up with was edible chips & cremated fish twice! Should be a little gold mine! Definitely needs new cook! Couldn’t believe nobody else complained! Obviously there are people that like the flavour of burnt fish!To be fair was offered money back!

After a walk around stopped in here for lunch. Wife enjoyed her crab however my two attempts at fish and chips provided two burnt fish. The first one being nearly black. Will not be back.

Had visited here upon a recommendation. Very disappointed in our food, fish was burnt, complained, then got another batch cooked, burnt again, chips on the soggy side. Dressed crab mediocre, a bit over priced for what it was. Would I go back... Probably not!

Visited here today whilst in North Berwick, had salt & pepper squid with sriracha sauce with a portion of chips but all you could taste was grease, not nice at all even the sriracha don't have any taste (chips are ok). Wouldn't recommend & wont be re visiting.

Pretty average food, service when they could be bothered to acknowledge us being there wasnt very friendly, to busy having a laugh. Took a half lobster which was very small dry and over cooked definitely not worth the price. Chowder was bland and underwhelming. Wouldn't return unfortunately

Nestled against the harbour wall is this small seafood café. They provide a range of cooked fish and shellfish and today we chose the seafood salad. They could do with more indoors seating, as it’s often quite windy here. But the food is very tasty and this is a very popular place to eat.

Disappointing after seeing the reviews and driving there specifically. Loved the location and expected rustic. Tried fish and chips (breaded which isn't mentioned) and calamari. Hot and chips good but fish was soggy and calamari was a bit chewy.

We'd seen this venue a while back and had put it on the list of places to visit. Last weekend, we went to North Berwick for a walk as the weather had finally improved and it was a half decent day (by Scotland's standards!). As in the photo's, this is a caravan on the harbour with a seating area next to it which is covered and has clear 'plastic' on 2 sides so you can have a view out. There are about 7 or 8 metal tables and chairs with each 'table' having 2 small tables pushed together and chairs, so you can get 4 sitting together. There are condiments, sachets of wipes, napkins and wooden knives, forks and spoons at the 'entrance' and lots of bins where you should recycle, after you clean up after yourself. It's not luxurious and there's no waiting service although once you make your order at the counter, you get a plastic square which has a number and as we sat waiting, the girl who served us came with takeaway boxes and gave them to us at our table. All of the hot food is cooked fresh so it does take a bit of time. We were 3rd in the queue after they opened and had fish and chips, calamari and a lobster roll and it only took about 15 mins. The smells coming from the 'kitchen' (in the caravan) was amazing and the food was every bit as good as I'd hoped. The quality of the meal was excellent and it's served in cardboard take away boxes so you can take your meal to the beach or sit around the harbour or take shelter (like what we did as it was a tad windy). The seating area was still draughty and there were lots of holes in the concrete floor so you had to ensure the legs of your chair were on solid ground but I think it all added to the charm of this place. The portion sizes were great and would satisfy most people - my daughter and wife struggled to finish their meals and we had to have a long walk after to burn it off! Now the 'rub' is the price - slightly pricier than your average chip shop but, if you consider where you are and the quality and amount of food you get I was quite satisfied and I think it's not bad value. I must mention the lobster roll. The mixture is obviously pre-made and refrigerated and then served in a brioche style roll. It was packed with flavour and had large chunks of real, quality lobster and not the processed offcuts you find in some other venues and sandwiches. Even though I enjoyed my fish and chips, the roll looked amazing and my family and I have said we'll definitely be back and I've got my eye on that lobster roll...!

Great day out in North Berwick and great food at The Lobster Shack at the harbour. Sunny day but cold wind so shelter of outside area was welcome. We had the lobster and crab sandwich and a side of chips and it was great. Sadly though the coffee was below average, at best, which I think they could easily amended.

Unexpected discovery! While wandering around North Berwick on a beautiful sunny afternoon, and feeling a bit hungry, we spotted a queue outside this food truck on the pier. Having looked at the menu, it was a no-brainier to order our lunch. I had the seafood chowder, my husband the fish cakes and our daughter a half portion of fish and chips. This turned out to be plenty! Chowder was substantial and tasty and my husband is still talking about the fish cakes! The wine was a bit of an extravagance at £8 for a medium cup but was perfect. We ate it on an outside bench (indoor area was full, and the sun was shining) watching the boats.

Amazing lobster and crab rolls, so much lobster (in big chunks) it hardly needed the crab and the toasted brioche roll was great too. So fresh!

We've had the seafood chowder 3 times now and each time it's been delicious, plus the prawn and hot salmon fishcakes were tasty too

It is not surprising to find a queue here on a gloriously sunny Saturday. We did have a wait to order as the queue was held for a period to catch up. Once the order was taken the food did come quickly and it made the wait worthwhile. The North Berwick Lobster and Crab roll was heavenly and filled with succulent chunks of lobster- be warned, they had sold out around 3pm-ish that day. The fish and chips with tartare sauce was very good. There are wooden benches above the marina with wonderful sea views.

If you’re visiting North Berwick, you must try The Lobster Shack! The menu offers great choice and prices very reasonable. Order at the counter and wait for your order (max 10 mins, made fresh). There’s plenty of seating around the harbour or in the covered table area. The fish is super fresh and locally sourced, caught by local fisherman. The sauces (tartare and sriracha mayo highly recommend!). We had fish & chips and fish cakes - both 10/10! Enjoy!

Lovely staff, made the best crab and lobster roll! They were kind enough to make a us a roll even thought they were almost closed.

Been desperate to tet this gem for ages, wow, it was worth the wait! Food was absolutely outstanding, and quick which was surprising considering how busy it was. As you can see, Baby Cole was a tad disappointed, he wanted in and about the food! I have promised to bring him back when he has teeth!

Yummy good with good choice. A little expensive, but all freshly caught seafood. We arrived early as we had read reviews about it getting busy and some things running out - but arriving early in the day, we had no issues and enjoyed some high quality food seafood on the beach.

Please be aware if you are looking to go to the lobster shack that it doesn’t close at 6pm. We arrived at 5.41pm to be told that it was closed and that last orders were 5.40pm! I said that the website said it was 6pm and the staff member said it was raining (it was actually sunny) and he had to shut the fryers down early. There were other people who were also in the same situation as us who were turned away. We were there directed to their restaurant nearby which was fully booked and unable to take us. Very poor level of customer service and we checked the website again and it so lit say last orders are 5,40pm!! Dry disappointed to be fibbed off because someone wanted to finish early. Won’t be back again sadly.

I’d read reviews of the Lobster Shack and have been wanting to visit for some time. The Lobster Shack is exactly what it says with a small covered area with tables and chairs next to it. It’s in North Berwick harbour and there are plenty of other benches and seats nearby. The staff were all really friendly and immediately got my dog sorted with treats and water before chatting through the menu. I went for the crab and lobster roll with triple cooked chips. It’s not cheap at £18.95 but it’s a generous portion and the quality is top notch. I’ll definitely be back to try other items on the menu - highly recommended.

Have been to the Lobster Shack for a few years now, this was my first time back since covid. I ordered a fish burger with double dipped chips, my partner had the tacos with chips and added bacon...The burger was pretty good - fresh fish, decent sauce and a nice bun. The tacos was also good, fresh and zingy.The chips were some of the worst I have had...they were almost all under cooked and soggy. The bacon was a thick cut rasher, flabby and fatty. Not ideal. So mixed feelings. They got the hard part right but the easy part wrong... Chips are always going to be a benchmark at seafood takeaways. Next time I'll just not have them.

Brilliant seafood and chips right by the sea. Obviously a well known/popular place and with good reason. May look like small portions for the cost but so good it is worth the money. Home-made Lemonade great too

I visited North Berwick and visited the Lobstwr shack. I ordered half a lobster and chips. I got about 10 chips and 3cm of lobster for £20. I really wasn't impressed. This place is a rip off. Other similar places in Scotland offer far better value for money. Other dishes looked better value.

Went to lobster shack on 2nd may 2021 waited in a queue for over hour 20 mins for my meal and from the picture of my meal you can see one bite and it was gone tasted really nice but value for money terrible am sorry lobster shack but won’t be back

Me and my partner went to visit the lobster shack and we ordered half a lobster and chips each. The portion sizes aren’t that great considering the price but we wanted to splash out and try Lobster. The queue wasn’t too bad and weren’t waiting that long. After a few hours I was severely sick which leads me to believe that the lobster wasn’t cooked properly. Very disappointed and it did ruin the end to our enjoying night away that we were having up until then.

Took a wander down to North Berwick for the day and had heard great things about the lobster shack. However I was really disappointed. I ordered the half lobster and chips and think I got about 2/3 spoonfuls of lobster meat and a few chips. Picture the scene, a cold autumnal gale blows over the picturesque seafront of North Berwick. Chilled to the bone and soaked through you think there is nothing that can turn this day around. But that’s when you spot it, the warm glow of The Lobster Shack on the harbour. Soon the glorious smell of cooking seafood fills your nostrils as you get closer. Stopping to inspect the menu you see all your fishy favourites featured. A handsome man greets you and takes your order, but a moment later your hands are filled with boxes of delicious freshly cooked seafood. Have you ever been happier, probably not!In other news, I had the lobster and some calamari both were absolutely exquisite. I’d actually go as far as to say the best calamari I’ve had in my life. If santa only brings me one thing this year I hope it’s some of that calamari.

Typical Scottish weather (blowing a hoolie) meant eating outside at the harbour was not an option for us( although a few hardy souls were) but can’t praise the seafood chowder we took back to eat in car enough. One of the best have tasted with large pieces of varied fish - have had less salmon as main course in many places. Daughters prawn and crab cocktail also very good. Service was fast and efficient.

Small Average lobster, soggy chips, way overpriced, disgraceful service ( except the dude at the till ), when I was ordering the food I asked a question and all I could hear was the “ chef “ saying read the menu before you come ( twice ) and when I told him that I wasn’t happy with attitude the answer I got back was move on it’s busy!!! Also I was told he wasn’t there to get abused by me when I was just trying to raise a concern as I thought the service was bad and I wanted him to know that he can’t talk to customers like that if he wants to survive this hard times when people pay £20 for half a lobster to takeaway And not even a single apology whatsoever, won’t return and won’t recommended to anyone!

This place is right on the harbour wall and the sea-breeze really adds to the atmosphere. Although there was a queue, service was fast and pleasant. We were nearly too late for half-lobsters, so if you're set on their namesake for lunch, don't delay! They were absolutely delicious and served with incredible chips. I really can't recommend this as a lunch spot highly enough!

The spicy lentil soup was amazing , we are plant based so didn’t try the seafood but really enjoyed our soup sitting out on the harbour walls.

Eventually I managed a visit to the Lobster Shack for my first ever lobster. Lots of friends had recommended we visited and I am so glad we did, The food was quickly prepared and tasty (1/2 lobster and three portions of haddock tacos) and we thought the staff were amazing with great sense of humour. More than happy with our visit and everything seemed fine COVID related. Shout out to the staff in particular. Well done guys.

Have to agree with other reviewers about The Lobster Shack - the food was really enjoyable but the price is just a little on the high side. The lobster was a little small (closer to a big prawn) but it was cooked beautifully and the garlic butter was plentiful. Likewise the mussels were delicious but just a little steep for what you got.

Gorgeous setting right on the harbour but £20 for half lobster and chips and we only got about 3 mouthfuls of lobster meat. The food was very tasty but it is not good value for money and we wouldn’t return on this basis.Other reviews have said similar and we chose to try it anyway but sadly they were right. Very overpriced for what you get.

We bought some lunch here on a holiday in North Berwick. We had to queue, which is pretty much to be expected on a sunny day by the sea. Staff were lovely and the setting was great, but we found the food very expensive and not great quality. Spent £30 then had to go to Gregg's for a second lunch to fill us up...we do not have big appetites... Lovely staff and setting but we did feel rather ripped off.

queued for 10 minutes and a further ten minutes when waiting for our food. they adhered to the social distancing rules before and after ordering, to save customers from staying very near to the shack and possibly creating a crowd they used buzzers to notify the visitors for when the food was ready. food was amazing although minimal seating but there were benches nearby. food was amazing as always, a good portion for both the mussels and taco. can’t wait to go back again soon!

I was staying through at N.Bereick for a couple of days, we decided to try The Lobster Shack. Bought half. Lobster and chips and fish n chips. Lobster is really nice only dissapointmsnt is you don't get that much for what you pay, that's just normal for Lobster though and I had to try. Fish was class and to be able to sit in the sun looking out at the good views makes it that much better, will definitely return.

Fantastic value for mussels and chips for £11.95 !!! Loved it!! And you can’t beat the scenery either that was further amazing because the sunshine was out!

I love the Lobster Shack! Just this place alone is worth the trip from Edinburgh. The lobster and crab bisque is to die for, and eating delicious grilled lobster from a to go box made this fancy feast by the sea comfy and casual.

Great lobster, very meaty and well cooked. 4 of us had half lobster and chips, washed down with a bottle of picpoul sitting in the sunshine. Fantastic!Its a bit pricey and only 2 people (please look a wee bit happier) working so be prepared to queue but its he whole experience you're there for and that is truly great

We waited 40 minutes in a queue and when we reached the front we were told they were suspending service for 30 minutes to catch up with orders. In proper queue management they should have suspended the queue from the rear not the front, very unprofessional.

12 friends wanting a light lunch arranged to meet mid September at the Lobster Shack ... parking issues staggered our arrival which was just as well as it was pretty busy ... we all managed a variety of dishes ... all were pleased. Our calamares were great. Good position and good value. Though it was sunny which always helps !

We travelled from Glasgow to make the most of a sunny day, having been recommended The Lobster Shack, we stood in busy line, thinking , yeah this is really popular. We eventually got to the front of the Shack after 35mins wait to be told, we dont have chips, squid or crab, you can have fish, prawns or something else. By this time I was feeling "hangry", I asked if i could wait, i was told there would be a 30min wait as they have a backlog, i asked if i could take a buzzer to be called when they are ready, i was told no, they have a backlog - Do you understand! erm yes i do understand and what an absolute joke, the staff were appallingly rude with attitude. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THE LOBSTER SHACK TO ANYONE, OTHER THAN TO STAY AWAY FROM THE PLACE! Very disappointing service, and considering they were lots of overseas visitors too give the UK a bad name! #Avoid!!!

Fischbude am Hafen mit überdachten Sitzplätzen und überraschend leckerem Essen! Hatten Miesmuscheln in Knoblauchsahne Sauce und dazu Pommes! Ungewöhnliche Kombi, die aber sehr gut geschmeckt hat! Muscheln waren super frisch!!

Been wanting to go here for lunch for a while, was looking forward to it, but when we went up to it, there was just one person there getting served, we stood next to him to get served. After about 5 minutes of being ignored and looked right through, one of the girls said are you waiting to be served? In a nasty manner, we said yes, she replied in a horrible way, well stand over there, meaning the other side of the guy getting served???? Why? At which point the chips in boxed for the guy being served were stirred about the boxes with her bare hands. No hygiene there. It was enough for us to turn away and we won’t be back

Opted for the Seafood chowder - amazing quality. Great friendly service. Nice views at the harbour to enjoy with a covered seating area.

Love this place, food is excellent...today was windy, not particularly busy but customers still need a great experience. Keep smiling. Today was not a welcoming experience.

our 2nd visit to this seafood speciality restaurant at North Berwick harbour; very good food especially for seafood lovers! We shall be back when we visit North Berwick again

I had to taste a North Sea lobster after I was told how good they were. It was tasty and so tender I could cut it with a plastic fork!

You sometimes have to wait but it’s worth it , fresh and well cooked you don’t get better than this on the harbour! Pricy but worth a treat !

This was my second trip to The Lobster Shack, I was there with my husband and was keen to go back when I was away with my girlfriends. I was a little wary as some of the recent reviews have been rather negative but we still had a lovely time. You can't beat sitting by the Harbour with the wind howling around you enjoying fresh lobster - and incidentally, mine was lovely and fresh and well cooked. We had a bottle of champagne to wash it down with and it would be lovely not to be drinking it out of plastic tumblers - if I had remembered that that was all that was on offer then I would have brought some cheapo Tesco champagne flutes!
