Super tasty fish dishes, not just fish & chips. Gladly again!!!

I found this restaurant listed on the 'Find me GF' app and when I found out gluten free crayfish and sweetcorn fritters were on offer I had to go and they did not disappoint. The fritters are a must try and the fish and chips were delicious. I highly recommend and I would return again. Staff, food and the views were all brilliant.

As a restaurant that specialises in seafood, my seafood platter wasn’t the best. I ordered a seafood for one. The lobster was lovely, but the rest was just deep fried, bulked up with a bowl of chips. While it did almost contain what the menu listed (missed the smoked mackerel). It still didn’t give that WOW factor. The salt/pepper squid was greasy, the fish had soggy batter that I scrapped off, fish cake was again very deep fried. My wife had the fish & chips, she also left all batter for the same reason. They did deduct £10 off the bill, but we’ll not be back.

Very disappointing. We tried twice to get a table , or even to get someone to talk to us. Staff were totally ignoring us (twice) , we gave up. The manager was aware we were there but just kept walking around , little Lord style.

Take away fish and chips - absolutely superb food!

Lovely fish and chips ...peas a bit odd in texture and taste. Service great, but I think the wine prices in the sheet menu were old prices as different to what we were charged ..and I thought £15.00 for a white wine and soda with ice was very expensive!.

I got a takeaway but I think it was the best in north Berwick lovely and fresh and very appertaining definitely go again without doubt

Incredible restaurant!! Service was so good, all the waiters were so kind and welcoming. Had the fish cakes, the salt and pepper squid, and the Mediterranean salad, they were all sooo good! The prices are super fair, I was surprised it was priced so well! And don't get me started on the location and scenery. Will absolutely come back! Easy 5 Stars 🌟 Whoever owns this place should be really proud.

We’ve always loved going here however yesterday was an experience I wouldn’t wish to repeat! Firstly you are left queuing outside with zero acknowledgement . Foreigners push past and just walk in ? They were told to wait outside until 12 it wasn’t very polite - but then neither were they! Did they think we were standing outside the door for the fun of it? At least we were polite and quietly waited for 15 minutes! We were the first in the door and told they needed the table back by 13.10? It was 12 when they open for lunch (although they’re already open from serving breakfast ) You then have to sit waiting to be served, your order is taken. The starter and the main course arrives simultaneously? Ok that wouldn’t be an issue if your main course was a cold salad - but a soup starter and fish and chips arriving at the same time is really not acceptable ! The soup was chowder which we had asked could the potato be removed we were told no! Actually it could be easily removed it was large hard lumps! Pic below easily viewable chunks of potato! The crusty bread? Severely lacking crustyness eaten but nothing special! By the time the fish and chips were started they were going cold! The sea food platter hmm the fish cake (a round ball) was over powered by dill . The salt and pepper squid / calamari was ok just exceptionally chewy. The half fish was good the lobster was challenging to crack open and took several attempts. We were asked if everything was ok a few times - I kinda live by if you don’t have anything nice to say - say nothing! I paid the 10% service charge included in the bill but felt incredibly ripped off because there really wasn’t any service to speak of! £70 and you’re expected to be out within an hour . (I can understand why “service” is included I doubt anyone would pay a tip for their “service”! Starter and main course arriving at the same time? Did we feel comfortable? Absolutely not ! Welcome ? No not at all rather an inconvenience to them . Were they fully booked ? There were table’s available, people arriving & seated that had not booked a table either ! Never had any issues eating here in the past but definitely will not be going back again! Shocking!

Very disappointed. Booked a table for my husbands birthday a few days prior. Travelling nearly 2 hours to get there and get a call 2 hours prior to booking that my table had been double booked and cancelled. Most disappointed.

Superb staff and food .Managed to squeeze us in as was busy and gave a treat and water for our dog too .Chowder was superb and the fish and chips were top notch too .Staff friendly and a gem of a place .Well done 👏👏👏

Went for breakfast and had a strange experience with the service. There was a mistake in the order (4 dishes arrived instead of 5), a gluten free mixup and we sent one dish back as the eggs were incredibly dry. Mistakes happen, but while they were sorting out the errors, the staff continued to make strange remarks about how they like dry eggs, or implying that we’d made a different order and how they wrote down something different. At one point the side of bacon we ordered was delivered with a suspicious side eye, as if it was a trick. It wasn’t that they were rude, it was just that they made the whole thing incredibly awkward, even as we were finishing the meal one server came over to bring it up again. One of us never did get the meal we originally ordered, but we just accepted it eventually as everyone else had finished their breakfast by this point. All this was while a huge family with kids screamed and made a fuss around us. Not ideal. The food was fine, but not worth the effort and atmosphere.

We didn't actually sit in this time as it was a lovely day and we ate our Lunch on the hill overlooking North Berwick and beyond We had 2 Haddock Suppers and as usual it came in a box lovely batter, great chips and tartare sauce, you can't beat it

I was in North Berwick for the weekend and left this morning to go back to my home in Ayrshire. I went to the Rocketeer Restaurant this morning for a cooked breakfast before I hit the road and It could not have been any better. 10/10. I arrived at the Rocketeer at 10:58/10:59, after walking out of another local hotel/bistro called "number 12" because they can't cook a cooked breakfast properly. Anyway that is not too important for my review. I was advised at the Rocketeer by the delightful lady who greeted me, that the breakfast finished at 11:00am but I was right on the cut off and I knew exactly what I wanted to order. I did not need a menu. I asked simply if it was cooked to order (it was) and could they squeeze another one out for me!? She very politely and gracefully accepted my order. I had a coffee and a full cooked breakfast. It was delicious. Everything was cooked to order, nothing seemed to be produced from a warming oven which makes a massive difference to a cooked breakfast. If I am ever in North Berwick again I will be trying lunch and dinner here not to mention another full cooked breakfast. It was honestly amazing. My dogs were given a couple of treats each without me asking for them. I was asked if I wanted a bowl of water for them. I did and it was brought for them. I was also brought a glass of water without asking for it. The price for a breakfast was £9.95 or so. The same price as the aforementioned "number 12". At "number 12" I gave my dogs the sausage, left the rest on the plate and went to tell them I was leaving. At the Rocketeer Restaurant I ate every single piece of it and it was outstanding. Do yourself a favour and get down to the Rocketeer if you are in North Berwick. You will not regret it. Thanks guys, very much appreciated.

Takeaway - had the seafood platter - half a lobster, (very) small half battered fish , some calamari and a fish cake. Came with a large portion of chips, which were ok and their own sauces. Lobster was very good, as was the battered fish, tasted very fresh. Wasn’t so keen on the squid and the fish cake was also a little small. £35, ok value for a takeaway box, probably. Would go again I think but probably just have the half lobster.

Food and service wee great. Love that it's covered but you can still see the coast. You feel like you're outside.

Tremendous fish and chips. Lovely atmosphere and views.

There’s a lot that I can forgive with an experience eating out. Like the time I sat at a cafe for 45 minutes, asking more than once where my food was only to find they had repeatedly forgotten. Mistakes happen. But being lied to is when I write a bad review online. I placed a take away order for a half grilled lobster. Was told the wait was 30-35 minutes. At 45 minutes I asked how much longer it might be. Was told they would check however I got no update. At one hour I asked if I could be refunded and explained it’s not a big deal and I understand they’re busy. The server asked me hold on a minute. I heard lots of questions being asked in the kitchen about where the food was. Turns out the half lobster had been prepared and forgotten about. Another server then told me that my food had “been sitting there for ages” so they were putting on a fresh lobster for me. When I opened the box of food, it was clearly not fresh. Was a really unfortunate experience. Just glad I didn’t have my kids with me. I would have been better off with a £4 salmon fillet from Tesco. The dishonesty was completely unnecessary. Update: to keep this very brief, I returned today with a voucher for a half lobster as promised. When someone goes back after a bad experience, staff should be kind to them, not resentful and accusatory. It’s that simple. I was made to feel most unwelcome by the staff. Makes absolutely no sense… I cannot recommend that anyone eat here. What an awful experience.

Great little place. Good with kids but it's a small place so you'll need to leave buggies outside. Food is awesome. You'll need to book on a weekend.

Barecito a casi pie de playa, con preciosas vistas a la bahía. Íbamos buscando comer la famosa langosta ( bogavante en realidad) y nos encantò. Es cierto que el precio es alto, pero estaba rica, y eso, acompañado de las vistas al final hay que pagarlo. El fish and chips espectacular( masa fina y nada aceitosa), sopa de pescado bien cargada de pescado. En resumen, parada más que recomendable en el muy recomendable North Berwick

We visited today for takeaway fish and chips. There was a wait for the food but that was absolutely fine and we were told how long it would be. The fish and chips were priced at £13.50 each so we paid £27 for two portions which is quite steep but absolutely fine if good quality and plenty of food. First of all, they were in packed well in a box, with a tub of tartare sauce, with knife and fork and a serviette. Both the fish and chips looked really lovely however we were immediately struck by how few chips there were! The fish was an ‘ok’ size but not great but it truly was a tiny portion of chips! No matter how good the quality, a portion that size was absolutely not worth £13.50. Thankfully, they did at least taste very nice. The fish was good quality and the batter tasty, flavoursome and not greasy and soggy at all - really nice. The chips, also were very, very nice indeed - just a shame there were so few of them. The tartare sauce was absolutely beautiful though and a very good addition. We’d definitely return when in the area IF the portion sizes, particularly the chips, were increased. However, even though the food was really good, we wouldn’t go back for the same portion size as we left hungry and I don’t think you should spend £27 on takeaway fish and chips to leave hungry. It could have been so much better, it actually could have been perfect if the portion wasn’t so mean!

Excellent experience. Small unpretentious restaurant. Really great service, food fresh and delicious. Most of the menu can be adapted to be gluten free. Couldn’t fault it here and had a great view. Would definitely recommend and I will definitely return.

Worth the wait! Food was excellent: tasty and plentiful. We had to wait a while before being seated, and then for our order to be taken and food to arrive. However, staff were friendly and helpful when they got to us. The menu was seafood based, and I had the chowder which was delicious. I then had salt and pepper squid, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and served with equally perfectly cooked chips. Others had the battered fish, which appeared like a golden cloud on the plate.

Had the locally caught lobster, it was a good meal, and great view over Milsey Bay if you get a table on that side. Service was good, I would come back here.

Enjoyed my takeaway chowder when it arrived but waited 30+ minutes outside in light rain. If I had realised takeaways are prepared in turn with sit in diners, and had taken my number 11 ticket as an accurate reference to my place in the queue, I would have cancelled. Not an effective way to serve takeaway, unfortunately.

We travelled from newcastle to try the fish and chips as it was the 3rd best in the country apparently. I emailed 2 days before our arrival to see if booking was advised but no reply. Then on arrival we were greeted by 2 rude members of staff 1 who ignored us twice and the second who's attitude was poor and dismissive and said we can order a dri k but they were not serving food. Wouldn't recommend traveling as if there busy they can't serve you!

Brilliant place for fishy tasties with stunning views over the beach. Glass enclosure means you stay warm whatever the wind. Staff were very friendly too.

Finally found a place with really good fish and chips in north Berwick, staff were very welcoming and the food arrived really fast. Fish and chips was really nice, the tartar sauce was the star of the show. We will be back on our next visit to NB next year

Food was lovely! Can't fault it at all. Mushy peas are not your normal type and appeard to be homemade woth garden peas but just as nice if not better! Wish I had the recipe for them! Only thing if you are planning on eating in I would strongly recommend booking as its a very small place. They do take away so if there is no room you can still get food however.

Wow what a find. Super good. We had the Gluten Free Haddock and Chips. They offer the fish with GF batter or cooked with Garlic/Herb drizzle. It was yummy! Any Coeliac suffers can go there and feel safe to eat, they know what they are doing. Modestly priced and NO premium for GF batter! Wonderful views out over the bay of North Berwick. Staff were really attentive. Well done and thank you.

I was there 2 days ago for my birthday, simple but welcoming place, I ate the fresh lobster, unfortunately we didn't book and we had to wait more than an hour, but it was worth it.

A small uniquely arranged fish/seafood restaurant located in the harbour. All the food we had was good-very good, without being exceptional. Service is very friendly and efficient, and prices are reasonable. We found the fried fish batter to be a bit limp, but the fish cakes, squid and lobster were very good.

Came across this gem on a rainy day exploring North Berwick Scotland! Everything was so tasty and fresh!

We always go to The Rocketeer when we visit and it never disappoints. I do think they should implement some sort of queuing system that separates those who have booked a table and those who want to order takeaway. This would stop so many people crowding the doorway!

Had a lovely meal with family on Sunday 5th May 2024 and could not have been treated better. Food was great, service was great and ambiance was great. The view from our table was amazing. Would definitely recommend this restaurant xx

Fantastic place, perfect setting with lovely food and wine. Service was great and we enjoyed a perfect night out with our fab friends, who introduced us to the place! Can't wait to return!

We both had the fish and chips and it was delicious. The fish was fresh and the batter so crispy. We also took our dog who got a little bowl of biscuits, which she was delighted about. The team were amazingly friendly and very accommodating. Chatting to everyone if they were up for it and good knowledge of the area and recommendations. We will definitely be back.

Who are those few silly folk that go on about Grim Staff,Bad Service etc...are you sure you were at The Rocketeer? The excellent,friendly,jolly staff are part of the reason that we go there a lot. As well of course the delicious food,great prices and the super atmosphere and views. The Rocketeer is wonderful "in every respect".

We popped in for lunch when visiting North Berwick and we are glad we did. I’m reading other reviews saying staff are rude but we didn’t witness this at all. I asked for a table away from the sun and was shown round to the shaded side and was asked later if everything was ok where we were sitting. Our order was taken and then our drinks arrived. For lunch we ordered the Cajun chicken burger and the Rocketeer burger. Both were tasty and cooked properly. The salad was very fresh too. We will definitely return on our next visit. All food we saw going to tables looked fresh and tasty,

What an utterly miserable experience just to try and grab a coffee on a glorious Tuesday late morning. Brusque, aggressive & not becoming of someone who wants to be in hospitality. Go & get a job away from people you horrible urchin. Plenty of other great people based places in NB. If this place was mine, you’d be history 🥊

The food and the views at the restaurant were enjoyable. However, I was dissatisfied with the service. I dined at 3 o’clock, having already had my lunch earlier. I ordered a SINGLE Fish and Chips, a fact my boyfriend can attest to. But the waitress misunderstood my order and brought a whole Fish and Chips instead. I pointed out the mistake as soon as the food arrived, but the waitress refused to acknowledge the error. Despite not eating any chips, I ended up paying an extra 5 pounds. It was a very disappointing experience. Also, I couldn’t help but question if there was potential bias against us, just because we are Asian. We were not offered any water, nor were we asked if we needed any. Yet, the table next to us was served tap water. This discrepancy in service was concerning. Re: Firstly, I did not mention that I didn't need water, yet the waitress didn't ask. Before I ordered, I asked one of the waiters about the difference between a single fish and a whole fish and chips. The waiter informed me that the single fish and chips does not come with chips. Despite ordering the single fish, I was served the whole fish and chips and was charged an extra 5 pounds. Furthermore, I noticed from another comment that there is a service charge. The waitress did not provide me with a receipt when I paid. Had I known about the service charge, I would have definitely refused to pay it!

We visited twice during our 4-day visit to North Berwick (lunch and dinner). On both occasions the food was high quality, lobster really well cooked and the service was excellent. Will definitely go again when in the area. Lovely views over to Bass Rock too.

My friend and I along with 2 dogs had lunch on Friday, we both had the battered haddock and chips and the best tartare sauce I've ever had. The meal was excellent, piping hot, as was my latte. Would highly recommend, 11 out of 10.

Excellent location, view, staff service and food. My husband kept making those mmm mmm noises as he ate the fish and chips. We will definitely come back. Best tip -make sure to book your table in advance.

The Rocketeer never fails to deliver,be it Brunch,Lunch,Dinner or whatever. Such cheery,efficient staff. Food always good and that is why we go often. Make sure you book before you go,maybe except early morning coffee. The seating is brilliant with lovely views and it is also dog friendly. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We (family of four) went for a late lunch at The Rocketeer Restaurant after a Wildlife catamaran cruise at the Scottish Seabird Centre which is next door to The Rocketeer Restaurant. The super friendly and lovely staff were able to get a table for us within a few minutes during a busy period and the food was delicious. So delicious in fact that I am adding a segment of our dining experience in one of my travel vlogs on YouTube and my family have insisted that we make another trip (from London) to Scotland we and must stop at North Berwick for a meal at The Rocketeer. We had the seafood platter to sample various dishes, the fish and chips and some chowder. Everything we tried was great and the chowder is hands down the best we have ever had - and we have had our fair share of seafood around the globe. Very highly recommended and we will definitely be making another 400 mile journey to Scotland and stopping off for some chowder in 2024 too.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch and then checked the reviews and saw there was a couple of bad ones due to their poor attitude!! Turned up slightly early and was abruptly told, " you,re not booked till 1.30 " No attempt to nicely say sorry are you able to wait, or anything of that nature. So I just said to cancel ! We went 5 mins away into Zittos and had a lovely lunch with friendly service.

Amazing fish and chips (I recommend the breaded fish!) with a fantastic view of the sea. We visited on a stormy day and it was incredible to be cosy eating lovely food with such dramatic weather all around us. The staff were great and so kind and thoughtful. Delicious food in a truly unique, comfortable setting.

Endroit très sympa pour déjeuner en bord de mer. Le restaurant ayant une forme particulière (carré central pour la cuisine et commodités avec les tables situées sur toute la périphérie disposant de grande baies vitrée), toutes les tables ont vue sur la mer ce qui est très agréable (beau paysage en plus de protéger du vent et du froid ;)). Nous nous sommes régalés d'un bon plat de poissons et produits de la mer (homard :)) au summum de la fraicheur (nous avons été témoins des livraisons de homards juste pêchés !). A noter que nous avons pris un plat prévu pour deux personnes que nous avons partagé à 3 sans nous sentir lésés ! La soupe de poisson fumé est également de grande qualité ! L'endroit est un peu exigüe du coup mais cela n'est pas gênant et le service reste très efficace et sympathique.

Very nice place for lunch by the sea. The restaurant has a particular shape (central square for the kitchen and amenities with the tables located on the entire periphery with large bay windows), all the tables have a view of the sea which is very pleasant (beautiful landscape in addition to protection from the wind and cold ;)). We enjoyed a good dish of fish and seafood (lobster :)) at the height of freshness (we witnessed deliveries of freshly caught lobsters!). Note that we took a dish intended for two people which we shared with 3 without feeling shortchanged! The smoked fish soup is also of high quality! The place is a little cramped but that doesn't matter and the service remains very efficient and friendly.

Tried to get dinner here this evening and on entering an empty restaurant before 5 we were told they had no space for sit in only take away. Explained it was my birthday so take away wouldn't have worked and was told well you should have booked. Bit of a rude attitude, ended up in No12 instead and had a lovely meal. On walking past later the restaurant still looked half empty. Strange attitude to have towards guests.

Disappointed. Went for a coffee at 11.45 on a rainy Tuesday in February. Treated with hostility and told we could have 15 minutes. An empty restaurant. Asked for a scone and got a sneer. Didn’t stay. Was planning to come for a lobster tea on Saturday with visitors. Won’t come now. Got fantastic coffee and scone and friendly welcome at the Seabird centre so we didn’t suffer too much.

The best gluten free fish and chips I have ever had! Honestly I can't fault it. The fish was so light and delicate and the batter was just scummy, again light and not greasy at all. I was diagnosed in 2005 and haven't had this kind of experience of gluten free fish in years. Honestly the best. The restaurant itself is wonderful and so interesting!!

Passing north berwick in our camper on 8th Feb and decided to book a table here. Hubby had seafood platter platter I had fish and chips and curry sauce. I have severs allergies to dairy and egg. My allergies were taken seriously and we both had a delicious meal with fantastic service from Bruce. We will definately call again and I will recommend this resteraunt to others

Fabulous fish & chips! Great view

Beautiful setting overlooking the beach, attentive and friendly staff and food is beautiful. Had the chowder to start with, then the baked cod which was cooked to perfection. Husband had the salt and pepper squid then rice pudding with baked plums was delicious. Will be back for sure.

We have just had a week's holiday in North Berwick and visited the Rocketeer twice. Would highly recommend. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Would definitely go back if we were that way again.
