Lovely place to bring the dogs for a walk. The fact the cafe sells lovely food and fairly cheap is a huge bonus.

I’ve been meaning to write a review for this place for a while as I really think it deserves some good press. The family and I have visited quite a few times over the years. It’s a great place to explore and walk. We would take scooters and bikes up to the top reservoir and let the children ride down. The cafe is a real hidden gem. It’s cafe food, but it’s good quality and very reasonable pricing. They didn’t use to take cards which was a pain but now I think they do. The breakfasts and baguettes are lovely and the family that run the cafe seem nice. Always a relaxed atmosphere and never trouble getting a table. Great to stop if you’re driving from London down to west wales. If you’re local, a great place to really get some peace and quiet. The only reason I ga e it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it used to have funny opening hours and would t be open some weekends in winter. Worth checking before you go if it’s in winter. Other than that, can’t fault the place.

Stopped off a couple of times at the beautiful Lliw Reservoir and decided to get a bite in the on site cafe. Really friendly and helpful staff. Good hole sum home cooked food. I went for a South Wales favourite, faggots and peas. It's got to be said it was the best I've ever had!!!!! We were visiting several places over the weekend and were passing by the following morning so stopped in again for breakfast. Proper full breakfast with local bacon and fresh eggs. Highly recommended. If you are visiting the reservoir and facilities, definitely pop into the cafe for something to eat, you won't be disappointed!

Took a nice drive up to the reservoirs with a disabled friend. She can't walk far so I felt it's a lovely location and we would be able to get a cup of tea. She has a tiny dog who hates being left so I hoped we could take him into the cafe. Sadly no dogs except guide dogs. The little fellow had to stay in the car but I felt it was a shame as many people walk with their dogs in the area. Something to think about maybe? The menu is basic but adequate with good prices. There's also a sweet little gift shop attached with some interesting items. There are toilets and an outside play area plus things for children to do inside. Well worth a family visit.

If you are looking for an easy and stress free afternoon I would definitely recommend lliw reservoir. Along with my family, including 3 children aged 6,7,9 we walked to the top reservoir about 2miles up, plenty for kids to see along the way so they didn’t realise how far they walked, it’s all paved so bikes, scooters, wheelchairs friendly. We then had lunch in the cafe which was really lovely 😊 nice menu with a great choice and reasonable priced. Staff are friendly and attentive, home cooked food served really quickly. This isn’t my first visit and I will without a doubt be back 😀

Firstly the elf trail was excellent and for only £1 the prize was excellent value. But then we had lunch - not taking bank cards is ridiculous (although we did know before arriving so we were well equipped with cash ! I ordered our meals / snacks and was disappointed! Bacon sandwich = 2 slices of bread with 1 not very thick rasher of bacon - come on is there a bacon shortage ?? Never worth the money !! But the biggest con was the hot chocolate ! Even more expensive that Costa !! £3.50 for a cup (yes a cup) not a nice long glass or posh mug! A cup and saucer to be precise !! I think we’ll leave out the cafe on our next visit !!

Been coming to lie reservoir since I was a child and although not been for a while, looked forward to taking my boys there today, nice walk around half of the reservoir but when we got to the cafe 15 mins before it was due to close, the woman who served us had a look on her face like she didn’t want us there. Only wanted to buy an ice cream for my son, she obviously was keen to get out of there. Nice place for a walk...however I won’t use the cafe again based on her customer service.

I agree with the positive and negative points made here. The cafe has a good selection of food and drinks, is nice and cosy and the toilets are clean. Most of the staff are friendly. One lady is pretty miserable, though, as other have said. She wanted us to move our cars because we were going to walk round the reservoir - surely that's why everyone goes there? She also got very grumpy about some toast - not friendly service at all. And why on earth they don't accept cards in 2018 when people were complaining in 2013 I have no idea.

Myself and my fiancé travelled a fair way on a snow day to grab a cup of coffee before going for a walk around the reservoir. The cafe was empty when we walked in. It does say ‘no dogs’ which we appreciate but with it being empty my partner picked up our 12 week old puppy and waited by the door so they could both get out of the blizzard outside only for the lady to say ‘no dogs sorry’ and sent them outside. If there was anyone else in there we wouldn’t have brought him inside but didn’t think this would be a problem. Technically the lady did nothing wrong but a little bit of business sense and customer service skills would have come in handy. Without dogs, the cafe would be in big trouble. We felt she was very rude.

I visit here regularly as I am lucky enough to live nearby. It is a hidden gem and sometimes I would like to keep it to myself selfishly. The walk is beautiful, scenery lovely and views from the top reservoir are worth the walk. The cafe is so homely, made such a welcoming environment by the family who run it and all their team. It is always nice to go there to see old friends and the food is delicious and so reasonably priced. The only change I would like to see is the water board looking after the roads as it seems they are trying desperately to sabotage such a great place, why would you for goodness sake??? They need to tarmac the road and keep the area clear of brambles and provide bins, they let the standards down when everything else has so much going for it and the cafe team work so hard. So worth a visit and easy to get to from the M4, try it you won't be disappointed.

If you can get there on a nice day and sit outside the cafe overlooking the reservoir you will be in for a treat. The food is well prepared, tasty and good value for money. It can be a busy spot (which itself speaks volumes) being very popular with those wanting to do the circular walk around the reservoir.

Lliw reservoir is a nice place to visit on a sunny day, you can walk around the reservoirs and take your dog if you wish, there are also picnic tables dotted around if you want to take your own food. Also next to the restaurant is a small play area for the kids as well as a small green area, there is also a fair amount of parking, nice clean toilet facilities including a disabled toilet.I believe the restaurant is open from 8.00 am till 4.30 pm all year round apart from the usual bank holidays and seasonal holidays. The food is superb and reasonable price and the ice cream choices are vast but can cost a few pound for the sundeas which are a choice of your 4 favourite ice creams, with fresh cream and a flake, a real treat. You can quite easily spent 2-3 hours walking and eating around one reservoir and a few hours more doing both the lower and upper reservoir. If you like fresh water fishing you can also purchase a day pass at the cafe shop for around £8 a day.All in all a great few hours out, I have also just gone there to eat on a few occasions.

This is my first visit to the Cafe and Reservoir. First impressions as walking in was that everything looked clean and tidy and there was a nice little gift shop selling handmade crafts. Then came the let down... My little dog wasn't allowed in the outside seating area and had to stay in the van :-( We have never had this problem anywhere else and I would have thought that this area has many dogs visiting. We were told that because the outside seating area didn't have a walk way from outside and was only accessed through the cafe that why he wasn't allowed in it. I cant see what the problem would have been to pass this tiny dog over the low fence outside. The lady working in the cafe said we could tie him to the barrier the other side but he is such a small dog and we didn't want to leave him where cars pass. When looking at the other reviews to see if anybody else had any dog issues I noticed that someone had commented about how welcome her 3 dogs were so Im not sure if this is depends on who you are. I did find the lady serving a bit rude and abrupt as mentioned on one of the other comments - This is going to put people off coming, there is a way to explain things to people and sometimes its the way you say something that counts. The food was average, it was ok, just a bit pricey for what you had as in portion size and the taste wasn't fantastic. Overall I would say that customer service needs to be improved and they need to put an entry for our beloved pets outside. There location and scenery are fab at this Cafe ,its a shame that these things let it down.

You go to the counter to order your food and pay at the same time. I ordered poached egg on a grained bread and my partner ordered a tuna and mayo baquette. We decided to have a large cappuccino each, next time we will order the small because it was huge . The food was delicious and very modestly priced. Walked the dog. Delighted to see the much needed cafe has re-opened. Left lovely well behaved dog outside by a table. Went in to order cup of coffee. All went down hill at that point. Told by a very rude and unwelcoming waitress that dogs were not allowed. Not even on benches outside? No only across the road by the lake. Ok can I just order a coffee to take over. No can you remove the dog away straight away. Gave up then. They must be losing so much income from dog walkers who visit the area. I despair! Not all are alike mind you. This place should learn valuable hospitality lessons from cafes such as Toucan winning the best cafe in Swansea award - they love dogs here and welcome them with water and a smile! There are many more -the Junction, Verdi's - all have to adhere to the same health and safety legislation the Lliw waitress used to justify her reason to ban dogs. I really hope that the cafe is sustainable, but it'll have to do without my custom. I will never return.

I love this place. The Lliw Reservoir is no longer a place to go for a walk..... It's a place to go for food, and maybe a walk : ) The cafe is always clean and warm. Being a local I've visited this cafe a number of times, and I've never had a bad meal. The food is always fresh, hot and very tasty! Everything is reasonably priced for what you get. Although prices maybe a little bit more expensive than your average cafe, you are not sitting in a greasy spooner, your sitting in a cosy cafe with the log burner going and home made food at the ready, including some delicious cakes. I noticed the above comment regarding "card payments". Ok, so there is no card machine, but being a newly established business, maybe this is something they might look into if there is a demand for it. Being an organised walker, and parent, I always carry a bottle of water and a few bob.... You never know! So I recommend this lovely cafe to anyone! Only wish they opened in the evening too!!! : )

I'm putting the first review up for this cafe after finding that it wasn't listed on trip advisor, people have been leaving reviews but under Lliw reservoir itself rather than under a dedicated Lliw reservoir cafe and fishery.Unfortunately the 1st review of the cafe isn't going to be a positive one.Myself my wife and our 2 children visited the cafe a couple of days ago after taking a walk around the reservoir where the cafe is situated. We made the mistake of leaving the house with little in the way of cash, however we didn't think that this would be a problem with it being 2013 you do expect cafes and restaurants to accept cards, this place doesn't. I work for a bank, and can never understand why places such as this don't have card facilities, the cost for the owner to have these facilities is small, and the increase in revenue from being able to take card payments would out weigh the cost of having the facilities in place. Had they accepted cards, myself and my family would have bought 3 main meals, drinks and no doubt a dessert or 2, which would have probablly cost us and earned the cafe over £20 with drinks, as they didn't accept cards we were restricted to spending the little cash we had on us. After reviewing the menu it became clearly apparent that we didn't have enough cash on us for much, luckily my boy was adamant that all he wanted was an ice cream, so this left us with enough coppers for a bowl of chips to share between me and my wife. Realising that we didn't have enough money for drinks, on ordering my wife also requested a glass of tap water, this request was greeted by a look of disgust from the waitress taking the order, she would have obviously preferred that we bought a bottle of water instead. Our bowl of chips were brought to our table, however no glass of water arrived, so my wife asked the same waitress for the water, which was greeted by a mumbled response. The water never arrived. The reason we requested the water was because my wife is currently on anti biotics and she needed to take her pill, we didn't feel that we should have to explain this to the staff, we asked for the water twice, however it was clear from the reaction both times that they were not happy to provide it, which is very poor service as they knew that we had limited cash on us as we explianed this when we asked whether they accepted cards. My boy seemed to enjoy his ice cream enough, however the chips were barely cooked and not pleasant. The main issue for us and the reason why we'll make sure we take a picnic with us next time we choose to take a walk around the reservoir is the very poor service received from the cafe, shame.
