Little Petra in Cambridge

We were extremely impressed with the quality of the food and very pleasantly surprised that the menu was very reasonably priced. We went on a busy Saturday night without a booking and we found our new favourite restaurant! The place was buzzing with a really nice vibe and the staff were really attentive. One tip though - next time I’ll probably book although this wasn’t an issue

Lovely dinner! There were no reservations left as we left it last minute but after hearing lots of good recommendations, I was keen to try it whilst in Cambridge for the day. They were happy to take a walk in which i was delighted about. The food was fantastic and huge portions. We chose to share two main meals between us and it was far too much for us but we took the rest home with us. Lovely attentive staff and great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

This place is a true gem. 100% my favourite place right now. The food is colourful, beautiful and tasty. The meze is lovely. The falafels are the most beautiful texture. The schwarma very good. I could quite happily slowly work my way through the whole menu. They also have beautiful deserts and baklava. Looking forward to my next visit.

I went here with some friends after reading several positive reviews and also praise from friends who had visited before. I wasn’t disappointed. The food was really very nice and fresh. The mezze platter was just fantastic and the mixed grill was nice too. The portions are absolutely massive and we ended up with way more food than we could eat (which they offered to pack for us - so thank you for that). I’d say one mixed grill platter easily serves two people. The service was prompt and friendly. No complaints on anything - perhaps maybe that it does get quite loud when full (but then admittedly we were right next to two large and loud groups!). Overall I highly recommend and will definitely be going back again soon (maybe on a quieter week night)!

The tastiest food I have ever had was excellent. I came from Norwich. The most crucial advice I can give is to reserve a table in advance—the services were excellent.

Lovely place to eat and a great range of delicious food and clearly very popular in the area as the restaurant was fully booked. However some of our dishes did arrive not as warm and the customer service was slightly hurried and rushed after being asked multiple times if we were ready to order without long enough gaps to decide upon. Did feel a bit like our meal was being rushed due to how busy it was but was still an enjoyable meal.

I’ve been to this restaurant few times and I feel that I’m now in a good place to reflect on my experience over multiple visits including the most recent one yesterday. First of all, little Petra you really need to work on your service. It’s shouldn’t be a stressful experience to talk to your staff about changing a table or dietary requirements! Our table was facing the door and you can imagine how inconvenient that is when the weather is very cold. We asked then for our table to be changed, and after a long period of deliberation between the waitress and her boss, the waitress came back and said we can change your table but now you have only 1.5 hour to finish your dinner! As soon as we moved to the new table, she asked are you ready to order now, we said yes sure. We made it very very clear that we are avoiding sugar and carbs. She recommended a fresh drink, lemon and mint and we insisted that we can only drink that if it is sugar free and she confirmed yes. We ordered the drinks and they were full of sugar! And they charge £5 per drink for a sugary non fresh one. When she inquired about our allergies, I again insisted that we are on a strict diet and thus can’t eat carbs at all, so if you please replace any rice with vegetables and there’s no need for any bread. As the starters arrive, flat bread was served along with the starters. As my main course arrived, it was served with rice. I had to ask them to return both bread and rice. Why would you ask your customers about their dietary requirements if you don’t plan on catering to their needs?! I’ll not comment on the food, as to me service is as important as food!

We ordered the mixed grill. While the portion was pleasantly generous the meat was on the side of salty. The Tavuk chicken was overcooked and dry the lamb cubes were on the over grilled side and lacked moisture. The kebabs were nice. The garnish vegetables were nice. The beef sausage were very tasty as well as the grilled Hallumi which we had as starters. What was a let down was the staff who despite us repeatedly requesting a sugar free lemonade still served us sweet mint and lemon lemonade. Despite asking them not to serve us bread or rice brought a plate of rice and a basket of bread which suggests they don’t actively listen or abide by what guests request. We would comeback but this time we will not order the mixed grill nor the lemonade and will stick to starters and water.

I had high expectations based on reviews, but our experience with the lamb shank fell short. The dish had a strong meat smell, which was disappointing. Adding some spices could have improved it. Not only did the lamb shank disappoint with its strong meat smell, but the restaurant itself was smelly. The overall atmosphere was unpleasant, and it felt like the food odors clung to us. Hoping for improvements in both the culinary and environmental aspects.

Ensure reservations before you go

The food was excellent. I would love to see more wine by the glass options (they only house red/white/rose by glass), especially as the have a very detailed wine list of wines from Jordan.

Wow! Dining at Little petra was the first meal in the UK that had my husband and I so impressed with. We ordered the hummus with mixed meat, prawn plate and the marinated lamb plate. All three dishes were absolutely delicious! The pomegranate, fried nuts and herbs on the meat took the dishes to another level. We now compare all middle eastern restaurants to Little Petra, and so far nothing has beat it. Would love to visit again, but it's so far from Australia! Would definitely recommend to everyone living in, visiting or travelling through Cambridge. A trip there is worth it!

Excellent food and value for money. I ordered chicken wings for £12 and was met with a feast of chicken wings, vegetables, sauces, chips and spices. A culinary masterpiece which shattered my expectations!

The food was amazing, especially the starters. It was just some of the best middle eastern food we've had!

This was our 2nd visit and sadly it was nowhere as good as our 1st. The food was nice except for the baklava which was dry and tough and sadly without doubt the worst I've ever tasted. The one star for atmosphere is because we were shoved into what can only be described as a blocked off corridor so we were not part of the restaurant at all.

Great food, particularly the meze. I recommend the chicken livers. Such a shame the service is so poor, and the atmosphere very loud and brash.

Food was really good, big portions and everyone was satisfied(even though the marinated lamb could've been better as the lamb was bit hard bitten) . The restaurant is clean, friendly staff, amazing atmosphere, but it was obvious that there were some novice staff which made the service 3 stars for me!! Nontheless, Would definitely recommend and go back

I had an early visit at 5 pm. Basicly every table had a reserved sign, a clear testament to its popularity. The interior was beautifully decorated. The service was top-notch. Food was not only delicious, but the portion sizes were generous.

It was beyond expectation! It was impressive how many different hummus dishes, both cold and hot, they offer. We had hot hummus with chicken and lamb. It was a perfect combination of nutty, milky, and meaty flavours. The lamb main had a velvety and tender texture, with a full exotic taste.

Super delicious food! Staff were super friendly. I got the mix schwarma which was fantastic. The portions are massive and you get chips and bread with it so I was stuffed and couldn't finish the whole thing. Would definitely come back again

Over priced great food but again overpriced I know quality came with price but this is too much a bit. I am aware of the price increase all over the world but this is above ⬆️.. kebbh and juice 🥤 and mamol not worth the price but the main course was phenomenal

Good quality and quantity of the food! I like the nuts and seeds they used in their dishes - making the food more aromatic and interesting to look at, smell, and taste. Haven’t got the chance to try dessert, but they looked nice and authentic.

Visited with the family & kids on Christmas Eve. Great food, and good service provided by the serving staff members. A bit sour side was the response shown by the person on the counter, apparently the manager. Kids couldn’t enjoy playing around because of restrictions. Probably he wasn’t in a great mood. Anyway, we still recommend this place for its food though.

Excellent Jordanian food. The mouzakka is a tad watered down without much texture but the grills were fantastic. Pickles were too hard and salty.Now for the nice parts here : Big portions , quiet enough place to talk, friendly service. We walked to Little Petra, so not sure about parking situation. Very visible from the main road though. Will revisit.

This place has been our favourite in Cambridge since we discovered it in 2020 and we’ve been coming back every time we are in town. The rewards displayed in the window at the entrance say everything, you will not be disappointed! I highly recommend the cold mixed meze, moussaka, shawarma, and Warak Enab 👌

Food was excellent. Experience was poor. Our group was 8 adults and 2 babies. We were very disappointed that we weren't allowed to eat a birthday cake that we'd brought in. The way the staff dealt with the issue was confusing. One person said we weren't allowed due to hygiene issues, and another said there was a £25 surcharge to cover the "cost" of giving us crockery and cutlery. I've never encountered this before at a restaurant. It felt like we were being asked to give a bribe. Why £25? That is significantly more than the main dishes on their own menu. This really put a damper on our birthday celebration. Also, we had booked for 8 adults and 2 babies (I had put this information in two separate places, the booking form and the deposit payment form) and we were told on arrival there were no high chairs we could use. This was also disappointing. I was also challenged quite strongly on whether I had paid the deposit up front. This whole system is very odd and confusing - you have to fill in two separate forms regarding your booking and pay an amount up front. The amount I'd paid up front was £50. I was first told I had only paid £20, then I was told I had claimed I'd paid £100. This was a really weird experience and not one I've ever had at a restaurant previously. To cap it off, we were given twenty minutes to leave the restaurant when it was more than half empty. Overall I wouldn't recommend Little Petra for a dine in experience for a large group. The food is excellent but the rest of the experience was very lacking.

Big portion sizes, excellent hospitality, great as usual. Had the fatteh chicken, shawarma wraps, lamb shank and mixed grill on different occasions. All are made with high quality ingredients and attention to detail. I would highly recommend the knafa if you have a sweet tooth. It's very different to the traditional turkish one I've had, but it's a recommend from me.

Ever since Little Petra relocated to Hills Road I had been excited to try it out. This weekend, I went with my family and unfortunately the meal was disappointing. My parents ordered a mixed meze, which arrived 20 minutes after the other starters on the table. The staff needed reminding of this item. The main course was also disappointing. The lamb meshwi was overcooked (dry and tough). We were also incorrectly told the 'salad' option with the dish was Tabbouleh, which was not the case. In fairness to the manager, this was then provided on the house after the initial discrepancy was blamed on a new staff member. Despite being seemingly popular, I think it's unlikely I'd go back, especially given some nearby quality options.

Food was good and well presented. Just before Christmas, and lack of acoustic damping made having a conversation really difficult. Decor and furnishings were basic. Staff were friendly but rushed.

Absolutely brilliant meal at Little Petra, with a party of12 colleagues this week. .I particularly liked the wine pairing with each course, and if you haven’t tried Jordanian wine you are in for a real treat- the Jordan river reserve Shiraz was particularly delicious - deep, rich and fruity, just right for the food. In terms of the food, particular hightlights were okra and lamb, the traditional Jordanian mousakka ( not the Greek version), the marinated chicken and Fatteh salad ( one colleague called it ‘summer in a bowl’) - with a special shout out for the pickles. The service was fast, cheerful and unobtrusive . The place was packed out on a week day night, so book ahead, it’s worth it

First, the location is great and the food is also taste good. The quantity is really good.. however, the service needs to take care, as for a cup of water to get refilled we were waiting for over 10 mins.....

I have been a huge fan of their food from Mill road. However, I am not happy with the visit I had at Little Petra tonight on 6th of December. We were a party of 5 and our order took quite a while to arrive. I ordered the marinated chicken which was £17.50 but unfortunately I don't think that's a fair price as the dish was mainly rice with very little chicken. The marinated chicken seemed to be the shawarma type chicken. The staff started to clear our table and asking us to pass them dishes whilst some of the people were still eating which made it quite awkward. I am super happy that Little Petra has opened a bigger space for Cambridge to enjoy Middle Eastern food but the new staff needs to be trained as this is part of the dining experience, which has been lacking on the last few visits to the new venue.

Busy place for a midweek evening, good service. Serving size is very reasonable. However , Quality of food was less than average for the price. Felt very dry and tired food, lacked real flavour. Perhaps since we came down towards nearer the closing time, the quality of food was less than desirable.

We booked this location while we were in Cambridge for my birthday because I had read so many good reviews, and the photos of the meals looked delicious. However, the food here is WAY, way too salty. I'm not a super picky eater, and I travel a lot, but we got the hummus and the Yakhannah Dajaaj, and it was so incredibly salty. I daresay, it was inedible. We notified the staff of how salty it was, and they didn't offer to do anything to correct the situation. I couldn't eat much because it just was incredibly salty. I wouldn't recommend this place -- the food is just so salty that it's not edible.

Nice vibe, but have had better food elsewhere

It was my first time at Little Petra and it thoroughly lived up to expectations and recommendations. The food was delicious and served quickly once we'd ordered. Very vibrant 'buzzing' atmosphere - although it was a very cold evening and those of us sitting near the window were rather chilly. We'll definitely be going back!

We had a great meal last night. The team was very helpful in amending our reservation and answering our questions. The food was delicious and the place felt very warm and cozy. I will definitely come back.

Food was good overall. Portions are huge, so be careful if you order both starter and main meal! Turkish coffee wasn't of traditional taste. It had cardamom in it and we didn't like it much.

I recently visited Little Petra, excited to try their much-raved Lebanese fare. While the okra with lamb was certainly delicious, the tiny portion did not justify its high price tag. The highlight was absolutely the fatteh - creamy and decadent with crisp pita chips. However, my experience was unfortunately marred by disappointing service. The staff seemed constantly overwhelmed and understaffed, struggling to attend to guests. Most concerning was the rude behavior of the owner. Upon arriving just 10 minutes past our booking, he scolded us about our tardiness and hurried us through the meal. Even more egregious, after finishing our meal he immediately pressured us to leave by inquiring about drinks and pointing out our booking was nearly up - making us feel extremely unwelcome. The service spoiled what would have been an otherwise lovely meal. For the high prices they charge, I expect better hospitality and larger portions. Little Petra was far superior when in their original location; the new expansive space seems to have led to them acting pretentious and dismissive toward diners. I left feeling deeply disappointed and uncomfortable. Unless major changes are made, I likely will not return to a restaurant where I was treated so poorly.

What an absolute gem of a place! I will be recommending this to everyone. HUGE portions, delicious flavours and great value for money. A shoutout to the staff who provided my mother with an umbrella afterwards when a sudden downpour started.

I went there for lunch. The portions were quite big but I found my choice very greasy. This place is also very loud, they should do something with the echo as it is very tiring when you want to enjoy your meal. Lastly the Turkish coffee has cardamon which was not written in the menu and I don't like it.

Have known the owner back when he had his place on mill road , always looked after me and treated me like family . Food always fresh and clean . I’ve always enjoyed lentil soup and fatayer. Fatteh is also Great and won’t dent your bank account . Food portion for one is enough for 2 , so don’t worry about not getting enough . Milkshakes are great ! Especially if diebetic and don’t add sugar . Mango one is delicious.

As a Jordanian, I came into the restaurant will low expectations as middle eastern food is mot usually good in the UK however my family and I were pleasantly surprised to see how authentic, delicious and beautifully looking the food was. It really reminded us of food we would buy back in the middle east with the right kinds of spices, techniques and freshness. If you are looking to try authentic arabic food, I really recommend this place as nothing is more authentic than this! My only issue is with the decor of the place as a whole, it was somewhat bland and uninviting although the cutlery was beautiful, more attention to the aesthetics of the place could possib ly be applied but all in all it is really great.

The food was overrated and not as nice as they say. No meat whatsoever

The manager with the bandana was very unprofessional. He demanded that we pay for basbousa that we didn’t order. When he we corrected him, he decided to go off on a lecture about how “someone has to pay” otherwise the waiter who made the error has to pay. That’s not what you say when you get the order wrong, you can just gracefully apologise.

Very aggressive staff, they get your order wrong and when you correct them they say “well someone has to pay”

Great new vegan options on the new menu since moving location. Recommend the lentil soup, stuffed vine leaves and okra.

So pleased for the family of Little Petra and their success! They absolutely deserve all the business they are getting. The food is absolutely amazing...from the meze starters to the varied main courses; all well priced for the location, and everything is beautifully seasoned. Portion sizes are very large so don't overdo it on the starters. I didn't get a chance to try their desserts but I will be back again, so no worries. The only downside was the service wasn't AS attentive as you'd like (we were sat for half an hour before drinks were offered) but this is absolutely understandable and forgivable with how very busy they were and how pleasant the staff are. I am sure this will improve when they're properly in the swing of having a bigger place. 100% recommend! I'll be back again!

The food is just amazing. Everything we ordered was very tasty and the portions are really generous. I had the marinated lamb and it comes with a bit of salad, pickled onions, rice and a yogurt sauce on the side. It was an explosion of flavour that combined so well. I would highly recommend. I also tried the fatteh chicken and it was equally good! The service was great too. We will definitely be back for more!

Wow! The best meal we had in Cambridge during our stay, and it was outstanding. Huge portions, with lots of salad and pickles (no need to order extra). I completely understood why they were fully booked and still had a queue out of the door. Great vigilant wait staff. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It wasn't expensive either - the most value-for-money eatery we'd been to this trip. We were stuffed.

It was bad experience, the staff didn’t respect the restaurant guests , and they told me to change my table as they like and they will put me as they. The restaurant manager told me that we have a law in our restaurant that is different from all restaurants. We choose for the guests where they should sit at which table, Then I left the restaurant. It does not matter if the food is good as much as there should be more respect and appreciation for the guests. Bad experience low service quality

We didn’t have any booking and restaurant was fully booked luckily we went early in the evening and they accommodate us asking if we can finish in 70 minutes and we were ok with that. We had mix grill platter which came with rice, salad and completely bread. Everything tasted great unfortunately it wasn’t very hot because we were tight on time we didn’t say anything and ate it. When we mentioned while leaving they gave us some Middle Eastern sweets which was nice. Our overall experience was good.
