This place has now changed hands and been re-named. OK, but not as good as it was before I'm afraid. It took a very long time to get served as there was nobody at the counter for ages. Three stars is probably overly generous.

Slow service bad food very expensive. Over £34 for a breakfast 2 panninis and 2 kids sandwiches and drinks. The panninis were cold and the cheese set solid the breakfast was burnt and piled up on a plate as if it had been sat the for ages and they brought cheese instead of ham sandwiches for the kids. We waited over 40 inutes for food and it wasn't even busy. Really was the only bad bit of the visit to Kelham island. Don't waste your money or your time in this place. Eat before you go or after your visit or take drinks and snacks with you and enjoy your day. I would rather pay more for meals if you are getting good food and service the food in here was terrible. The only reason we didn't return it is because we had 2 small children with us and they were hungry and had waited over 40 minutes.

Have been here for lunch today after visiting the museum (which incidentally is great). Have to express my extreme disappointment in the kids meal which I suggest should be called 'toddlers meal'. We ordered sausage and chips, no beans. The meal cost £4.95 and actually came on a teacup saucer, 1 sausage and at the most 6 chips. I could not believe the portion size for the cost! Won't be visiting again!

We called here after having been round the museum for a quick coffee and drink for the kids. As is usually the case the kids were starving so we ordered two bowls of chips. The chips were AMAZING!!!! just like my mom used to make. Thick, brown lovely. If I could have made a buttie on thick buttered bread it would have been like being 10 again! Bit expensive for what we had. We are planning on going back to see if the rest of the food is the same quality as the chips we had!

Our wedding. What a fabulous place to have a wedding reception. Picturesque setting, set right next door to Kelham Island Museum. From the first meeting we had with Nicola, we felt comfortable. Nothing was too much for Nicola, coming up with ideas regarding everything including food, decorations, music. From the moment we arrived staff was waiting with drinks. The Wedding breakfast was perfect, we choose Yorkshire Menu. Wanting something special regarding food this is the place to be. The staff are friendly and helpful. We had a little buffet at night also a Dj. Perfect Day made by Little Mester's,all our guests loved it too.

We were part of a small conference, which was held at the Kelham Island Museum. The conference dinner was held at the Little Mesters Cafe and the two lunches were also catered by them. All the food was outstanding! For the dinner, there were several choices. I had the salmon and it was delicious. The dessert was a lemon cheesecake but it was beyond a cheesecake and more like a combination mousse/cheesecake. I could have eaten two more had I not been so full from the starter and main course! As for the sandwiches and other tasty tidbits (chicken skewers, small quiches etc.), they were the best sandwiches and these were the 'hands down' best lunches on our two week trip. I am sure that the bistro offers similar items on the regular menu and strongly recommend this restaurant as a nice place for a meal.

We had two course Sunday lunch courtesy of a Living Social voucher and it was very good. The café is within Kelham Island and the room has a feel of being in a museum with all the Sheffield antiquities on the walls. The ambience is definitely Café and not Bistro. We had bottled lager as there was no draught lager on that day and a bottle of red wine which was good. The starters are varied and very enjoyable and we were pleasantly surprised when the very tasty Yorkshire Pudding came out as a separate course with delicious onion gravy. Our main course of beef, roast potatoes and veg was very good and plentiful. We will definitely return to sample food from the daytime or brunch menu and also take the time to have a good look round the Museum.

The service at this cafe was extremely slow. There was a large party already in place when we arrived, so we expected delay, but 30 minutes after ordering we were still waiting for food, in spite of having finished our drinks a long time before. Then I realised that people who'd arrived after us were being served. Even so, I was prepared to accept that our food might have taken longer to cook than other people's. Eventually the manager noticed that something was amiss. He came and told us some story about a mix-up in the kitchen and apologised. He didn't offer anything in recompense, so we sat there, waiting, and looking at empty cups and glasses. Another 15 minutes and we decided to cut our losses. We'd just put our coats on when the food finally turned up. So we agreed to eat it and asked for another round of drinks. The manager said they'd be on the house, like he was doing us some sort of favour. He SHOULD have brought us drinks when he came to apologise, rather than leave us sitting there with nothing. He SHOULD have offered something other than the apology. He SHOULD have ensured that it didn't take another quarter of an hour for us to get food. By the time it arrived, frankly, I'd gone off eating. My 'wrap' was a deconstructed plateful that I was expected to roll for myself. All that did was emphasise how long the plate had been sitting around in the kitchen. It was dry and crispy - more like a poppadom than a wrap. Never again. I don't like giving poor reviews. You can read others that I've contributed to TripAdvisor so you can tell I try to be fair. But this was such a poor show that I have to let others know what they might be letting themselves in for.

Visited today for Sunday lunch on a living social voucher. Had brunch here before which was also fab. Don't be put of by the set up of this place which could be mistaken for a greasy spoon on 1st impression. Started with mackerel salad which was lovely. Nice Yorkshire touch followed homemade Yorkshire pudding with onion gravy. For main had the roast sirloin of beef WOW !!!! It just melted in your mouth served with mustard mash, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips. Unfortunately to stuffed to test the puddings. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was not the food quality but the furnishings. Guys you need to get some better tables and chairs etc to fit in with the quality of food you are delivering. Def worth a visit and even better if you can get a voucher

This was my 3rd visit to Little Mesters in about 4 years. I took the family (6 of us) using a Living Social 2 course Sunday lunch deal. This gave us a choice of starter followed by a Sunday lunch with choice of meat. We were also greeted by a Yorkshire pudding with onion gravy between both courses - a nice touch! The starters were all well presented and of restaurant quality. We all choose rib of sirloin for the main which was served medium rare and simply superb!! This bistro never fails to deliver and has to be tried at least once. It's tucked away in the Kelham island complex next to the river Don and has a private parking area. It is set in former industrial works, much of which has been retained in the decor. Wil definitely be returning. Congrats to the chef

We held our wedding reception here on the 18 December 2015. It was a small intimate meal with family and friends. We hired the museum for 2 hours in the afternoon prior to sitting down for our meal. We also used Little Mesters for the evening reception. What a fantastic event it all turned out to be. Nicola and David catered for the whole event, from the canapés and drinks in the museum, wedding dinner and evening buffet. The food was divine and the service absolutely brilliant. The whole place looked cosy and intimate and all the staff were very polite and professional. We didn't have any problems with bar service. All our guests were delighted with the venue and the food and surroundings. All our decorations were put in place by the staff and packed away for us the next day ready for us to collect. Gary and I wanted a venue with a difference and we certainly had that. The Kelham island museum was an ideal place to kill a bit of time before the wedding meal a real taste of old Sheffield. The bistro looks very simple in the day time but once decorated up and tables set etc it is completely transformed. We had a great time. Thank you Nicola and david and all your staff. I have to mention that I was a bit of a brideszilla at times, but I can assure you these guys know exactly what they are doing and will help in anyway they can. Karen & Gary

Little Mesters provided the food for our wedding in July 2015, which included canapé starters, a barbecue-themed main course and a choice of two desserts, as well as snacks in the evening. We already had a good idea of what we wanted, and Nicola really brought that to life, as well as making some great suggestions of her own, all whilst keeping our budget in mind. They were very accommodating and flexible when changes or additions were requested, and were great at catering for special dietary requirements. The vegetarian options went down particularly well. We had lots of compliments from our guests on the quantity as well as the quality of the food. I also want to note the friendliness and professionalism of their young waiters / waitresses, who did a fantastic job throughout the day. The waitress was slightly awkward and hovering around.I ordered eggs benedict with grilled asparagus as on the side. 45 minutes later the waitress came back to the table and advised that as asparagus with hollandaise sauce was a different dish, I could not have both smoked salmon and asparagus together. She advised that I could speak to the manager in which I replied ' no thank you, I will pay extra, please could you bring have ordered', eventually the food came and to be fair mine was delicious and so was my friend's, who has the garden breakfast. When we went to pay the waitress's were having a conversation over us which I found very unprofessional. Great food but you could tell it was a family run business and none of the waitress's seemed to know what they were doing. Maybe a bit more training is needed?

We ate here this afternoon after having a look around the Vintage Fayre at Kelham Island. The food was just poor. Fish and chips were very oily and served on a board too small for the portion. The burger was also poor, tasting of a very poor quality beef. We asked for some ketchup and they brought out a bottle of reddish-orange sauce. It tasted vile, like a strange sort of pasta sauce. It had no place on a plate of food. The service was abrupt and not much care was taken. The bill was brought to us just after our food was served. We left having eaten no more than half the mains.

After visiting Kelham Island Museum on a chilly February day we popped in here for lunch. Very pleasantly surprised by the decor, service and food. A couple of us had very nice pastas , one had an open topped burger and another the steak casserole. Nice selection and well prepared. Service was pleasant and quite quick and prices quite reasonable. The entrance door appears to be a fire door so didn't seem to open from the outside and often did not get shut properly after people entered, which did let the chill in and we were up and down a bit to shut that. But on the whole a good experience and I would recommend.

A marvellous meal again. The bistro was set out for couples with low lighting, white table clothes and excellent place settings.I had Yorkshire blue parfait with soaked pears. Presentation was excellent and so was the taste. My main of beef shin bone, with ma sh and season veg with jus(gravy to me) was super. My wife had slithers of salmon with horseradish, it looked great. Her main of two type chicken looked quite plain but tasted great. My sweet was a little disappointing although I am picky when it comes to Parkin . This was a little dry, the best Parkin is moist and sticky. The ice cream with stem ginger was superb.Last time we went to little Mester for Sunday lunch I gave it a less positive review. In my opinion they are back on track. For a small bistro with approx. 30 covers it provides excellent food at a very reasonable price. Get a voucher and it is even better value.

Went to a 21st was shocked when i went to the bar it cost £9.25 for a pint of beer and a glass of what tasted a cheap house wine they didnt know if theyd got merlot and the beer was flat a the same temperture of the surroundings it was flat as a pancake The main reason they skimmed the froth of the beer like in spain it was rubbish most people left early .1 good thing the bar was always empty because it cost so much definately never going again

We had a voucher for here, didn't expect oo much but we were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of food we had, loved it! We had three lovely courses, staff unobtrusive and friendly. Atmosphere good, the evening flew by, food arrived timely but gave us plenty of time in between courses to relax. We will definitly be going again.

Went for lunch after trip to kelham island museum. Staff were friendly at first as quiet, Sunday lunch was nice but very expensive for a museumCafe and not big portions. No green vegetables which was strange. Daughters meal only had 1 sausage which was stingy for £4.95. The only pudding was a brandy snap thing which wasn't suitable for kids, we had to ask 3 times if they had any ice cream so they could have pudding. I think if doing Sunday lunch there should be at least 1 hot pudding!Door was open throughout visit and place cold.Food from normal menu eg pie better portions and value for money!!

We had our wedding reception at this restaurant and all i can say from booking to the day nicole was perfect. We had the type of reception we wanted. We had yorkshire tapas buffet main which people highly reccommended the fish pie. Puddings were tapas style home made mini scones. Strawberries and cupcakes. The evening we had bbq. Which everyone raved about. All in all 100% highly reccommend this venue for a wedding venue. They cannot do enough for you and made our day one to remember and cherish.x

Ate here last night and the food was lovely. Loved the place and the atmosphere. Staff very friendly. Just a few constructive criticisms. Thought some bread would have been good. Thought the pea and mint chilled soup could have been a bit thinner. It was difficult to get out of the glass. The fish was excellent but wish there had been some sides of veg or chips. Nouvelle cuisine is Ok but portions are small. I don't eat a lot but I could have done with just a bit more. Also I ordered the fish without bacon bits as I don't eat meat but when it came it had the bacon bits on it. I just scraped them off not wanting to make a fuss. Pudding was excellent. Not sure I would go again unless the menu changed and there was sides I could order but we had a good night. Enjoyed it all immensely.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat and checked with waitress that we shouldn't have to wait more than 10 mins.. 25 mins later the leek and potato soup arrived. Nothing special about it, just the sort of thing you would get out of a can (the bred was very cheap floury white). What was unusual was the portion of soup, I can quite honestly say it was a few mouthfuls which was lucky in some respects because we only had about 30 seconds before we had to leave - ample time to finish. Oh, and it wasn't even hot!

My companion and I decided on a late breakfast after wandering through the Kelham Island Museum. We were pleased when we ordered tea that we each got a pot which was very welcome on a wet , dreary day. I ordered the garden breakfast and my friend ordered the full English Breakfast. In general opinion is food was not seasoned much and sausages were overcooked. The asparagus was definitely more al dente than I expected. It might as well been put on the plate straight from the picking but the grilled mushroom and sweet potatoes were lovely. I tasted my friend's black pudding and enjoyed it.The various pictures around the restaurant followed the museum theme and was interesting to look at and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Apparently this location is well known for catering and special occasions, maybe there would have been a different experience

I bought a Groupon deal last January, planning to go for a meal at Little Mesters to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. When I called to book I was told quite abruptly there was no availability until August. The idea of it being a birthday treat was ruined there and then but I just thought it was reassuring that the restaurant was that busy - they couldn't really be blamed for that.To cut a long story short we eventually managed to agree on a date at the end of September, which we then wanted to reschedule as it became inconvenient for personal reasons. At this point we were told by a member of staff that because they were so busy it was probably best to just cancel. The woman my girlfriend was speaking to put her on hold for some time to confer with her manager, then came back to say that if I emailed the manager with the Groupon voucher details our money would be refunded. I did this but got a very short reply stating that LMW were unable to issue a refund as the voucher hadn't been redeemed and that we needed to ask Groupon about the refund. At this point frustration really started to set in - different members of staff were giving us contradictory instructions and wasting our time. My girlfriend phoned to once again to try and find a solution to the situation, but got nowhere. I phoned and spoke to the manager and asked why we couldn't get the refund we had been promised, when surely it was a case of them just redeeming the voucher. The manager rudely interrupted me while I was talking, kept saying they couldn't refund the money, and eventually admitted that the problem boiled down to the fact that when they redeem the voucher they don't get their money for a month, so couldn't offer the refund for a month... for a high end restaurant to be so busy but to make a big deal of a petty cash flow issue like that seemed ridiculous to me, but all the same I said i would accept a backdated cheque... still the manager insisted I should call Groupon as they had someone else in a similar situation last week who got their refund.I was starting to lose it at this point as I had the Groupon Terms & Conditions in front of me stating that a refund could only be given within 7 days of purchase, and I explained this to the manager. Still she insisted so I got off the phone to her and then spent 40 mins on the phone to Groupon explaining the whole situation again, forwarding the relevant email and eventually managing to persuade them to give me an actual refund rather than a Groupon credit (which I really appreciated - nice of them to be flexible with their rules!)All in all it was a real shame that this experience put us off the restaurant completely before ever having the opportunity to set foot in there. Having now read other recent reviews here it seems our experience fits with what other people have found: that the place is extremely popular and serves excellent food, but that communication between staff and customer service standards massively let them down.

Glad to see the bistros are back at Little mesters.Me and my Husband have been to several of them but missed them over the summer months,we have been told due to all the wedding functions taking place there at the weekends.Well we went last week.the food as always was great. My Husband had the poached duck egg and asparagus to start and said the egg was cooked to perfection, only thing missing was some toast! For main he had haunch of venison whilst I opted for the sea bass fillets with smokey bacon. The fish was delicious.Empty plates only returned. We finished off with a cheese board each, again great value for money, it included a small kilner jar of home made chutney plus grapes ,celery crackers and the most delicious selection of cheeses,my favourite being the brie. The restaurant was quite busy and everyone was having a good night. The staff were attentive and friendly and the service was excellent. Will be booking for a Christmas one soon.

Tucked away by the Kellam Island Museum, Little Mesters is a cracking place. Four of us went on a Friday night; it wasn't too busy, and the service was excellent. I loved the industrial feel to the place, with the displays of machine screws and hand tools on the walls. The staff were very inviting, and helpful. The menu was excellent; we all had venison, all cooked differently (Rare, medium rare, medium and well done) and all the meals turned up together and were cooked to perfection. The menu was well thought out and inventive (for dessert i had Warm strawberries in a brandy snap basket, with pepper and balsamic vinegar), but vey nice. All in all a very pleasant experience which we will no doubt repeat in the future.

We went to our friends wedding party here, it was our first time at this venue and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The real ale was to my liking and the food was excellent both in taste and inventiveness. We love industrial archeology and there was a Bessemer furnace hanging above or heads at the entrance. There may be a maximum number for the place, so ask about this of you taking many people. We recommend this place.

We returned to the Little Mester's today, for Sunday lunch, having been for an evening meal previously, which was excellent. I had asked for a table for 12:30 but was told (very politely when booking) that sittings were either at 12:00 or 14:00, so we opted for the 12;00 sitting. When our party arrived, we were therefore surprised to find the restaurant nearly empty, with only one other table taken, and no other guests arriving during our meal. We were puzzled as to why we could not have booked for 12:30 given how quiet the restaurant was, but perhaps it was an unusually quiet Sunday lunch service. We were also surprised that the restaurant smelled of fried food from arriving to leaving, which is rather off-putting. The waiting staff were friendly and courteous. My beef had very good flavour and the fish and chips two members of our party had were also good. However, the Thai chicken curry my husband had was very insipid, tasteless and there was very little of it.So, overall, a disappointing visit and we would not rush back for Sunday lunch.

A nice little cafe at Kelham Island. Good choice of drinks and food. We had the bacon butties which cost £3.20 each and were jammed packed with smoky bacon. A good cup of tea too. Would make quite a nice place for afternoon tea for an elderly relative or for a childrens party. Virtually empty when we visited . The staff friendly and helpful and nothing too much trouble . Food served quickly . Parking a little difficult as there are only spaces for 50 cars but if you can get in it is well worth the visit for a quick meal .

Great service from friendly staff. Food excellent and well presented though some might feel the veg were a little too al dente. Just right however for us. The bistro has retained many of the building's original features (? listed building) with some interesting displays of Sheffield's industry. We ate inside the bistro but service was available outside as well. Just as enjoyable as its sister restaurant The Schoolroon at Bradfield. We shall return I'm sure.

This was our second visit and will probably be our last because of the service times. After being seated we had to wait about 5 minutes for one menu to share. We then waited about 15 minutes with staff ignoring us despite being ready to order and had to flag someone down. The red pepper and feta cheese tartlet starter then took about 25 mins to come despite being cold. The same procedure was followed with the next two courses and we only got our main meal over an hour after we arrived. Now this could have been a one off but we had the same experience before. It seems that they wait to bring out food in groups to make it easier for the chef. It's such a shame as the food is very nice but the experience of waiting so long is too off putting to return. Sort this out and it's got promise

I popped in last week with a few friends for Sunday lunch. we had a living social voucher. The staff was friendly, sat us down and gave us chance to relax, even though the cafe was seemingly quite busy. The menu was small but sounded really good. I had the salmon and crab to start and it was absolutely full of flavour. I can't remember what the others had but I remember them saying how good they were. We were then given a Yorkshire pudding course which we wasn't expecting, really enjoyed it as the gravy was to die for. Only took a couple of seconds to wolf that down. The mains then came out, piles of lovely veg and tender meat. I had the beef and everyone else had pork. Again the gravy was amazing, I even asked for the recipe. My girl friend had a chocolate mousse type thing for dessert with honeycomb, looked good although I was far too full at this point to have anything else as were the others. All in all, great value for money, we felt bad paying so little for what we got that we paid a larger tip then we would in most places. Definitely worth a visit! Can't wait to try a bistro night.

We have eaten here on several occasions with family and friends and in the main it has been good. The Sunday we ate here in May was the warmest day of the year. Drinks were ordered but I was amazed to be told they had no ice, no explanation was provided for having no ice and an apology wasn't forthcoming. There are 3 supermarkets within a 1.5 mile radius of the restaurant but they obviously couldn't be bothered to go and get some bags of ice - poor! The food was hit and miss the chicken was good but the beef was full of fat and tough. Service was slow and there seemed to be a distinct lack of organisation or direction on the day we ate their - not sure if anyone was in charge. I do hope things get back on track - time will tell.

We went this evening to the monthly bistro night. I could not have felt more welcomed by the staff throughout the visit even though by the end of our meal the entire place was full. My brother has a broken hand and they accomodated perfectly. The menu was creative and there was something to appeal to everyone. Everything was fresh and the presentation was as excellent as the taste. In terms of value for money for quality and overall experience I wholly recommend a visit.

We chose late Sunday afternoon and it was possibly a mistake. On previous visits we have thoroughly enjoyed the occasion, but this time I felt the main courses had been put together from the last of the days food. My beef was tender but my wife's was chewy, the vegetables were over cooked and the plate was swimming in gravy. The sweet saved the day .I am going to put this down as a one off, I want to be convinced it was.

Another visit to this establishment,If this is the same chef as previous I will eat my hat, the food was poor all round, burned items on my plate , unacceptable, the waitress was told about the burned food but nothing was done not even a 'sorry' .after really enjoying previous visits this place was my favorite place to dine, hence me travelling from out of town to get here. Wether it was a tired chef or a different chef I won't be going back, food has to be done right no second chances especially when you are paying for it. It is a shame this place us now of my list of places I like to visit.

This was our 3rd visit & unfortunately the worst. Our main gripe is the lack of choice for vegetarians, especially on the Sunday menu. Three of our party had the roast dinner. My husband ordered the risotto, which turned out to be a bowl of sloppy mush - it looked and tasted like baby food & he couldn't eat it. With hindsight I wished we had complained about it. He would have liked the vegetables with a meat free alternative. Our meals were good, but I had the pork , which was far too fatty and I left most of it. The cheeseboard is not value for money either. The smallest crackers I have ever seen, 4 grapes & some very thin slithers of cheese for £5.95! Felt it was a rip-off. The staff were helpful but we had to wait a long time for our main. Four sets of people who had arrived after us had their mains a long time before we did. We deduced this was because we had ordered soup as a starter, rather than the fish dish. But surely 4 lots of soup couldn't justify a very long wait??!! Unless there is more choice for vegetarians we are very unlikely to return. There is far more choice at the Fat Cat just around the corner, which is also cheaper, so I think Little Mesters do need to listen to feedback!!

Waiter gave us a menu and explained the process for ordering etc very promptly. Young lady behind the coffee bar took my order nicely and asked me to wait for the coffee for me to take to our table. No problem with that. However, whilst waiting, the initial girl and the other girl barista chatted very loudly, no rush to make my drinks. They were discussing a story between them and we're swearing f***ING loudly and persistently in front of me and other customers . Unaware this is not a great experience.

We heard that the Angel Inn had re-opened under new management, and that the pub had been given a make-over and were now doing really good food - so we thought we would go and check it out! We went along mid-afternoon on Thursday 25th January, 2024, the place is very clean, warm and welcoming, a nice, cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Louise the manager, who we took-to immediately, is so enthusiastic and passionate about running a good pub. They have a wide range of drinks and the menu although limited at present, is set to be extended, and they do Sunday lunch. The chef, an ex-army chef but with lots of civilian experience in restaurants too, is also passionate about providing great, home-made food. We very much liked the look of things, so we booked for Sunday lunch - we went along on Sunday 28th January - the food did not disappoint! We had a choice of beef, pork or chicken, or we could have some of each. The plate came out with the meat, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, along with it came a large dish of vegetable and a gravy boat. As promised, everything was home-made, cooked from scratch and as we expected, totally delicious! Then came dessert, we all had treacle sponge with custard, but there was a choice of jam sponge, apple crumble or cheese-cake, - home made, and it too was delicious!, and all at a reasonable price - well worth it! We will be back - but we are also going to go along mid-week and check out their menu offers - they are going to be getting wine and drinks offers too - what more could you want! 👍😁.
