Little Italy in York

We were recommended to visit this restaurant by some friends and were certainly not disappointed. The whole experience was excellent from the atmosphere, service and especially the food which was delicious; we will certainly return in the future.

Remarkably un-remarkable, very little flavour to the steak sauce.

Delicious Italian cuisine and worked over Easter - so we were really happy. Kids meals are also great - my child asked to go back there for our next meal as it was yummy.

Four of us ate there on Sunday evening. It was busy so plenty of atmosphere, the food was outstanding and the service by Ergest and others friendly and welcoming. As good an Italian restaurant meal as I've had in a very long time. The mushroom ravioli and Tartufo was just excellent. Would thoroughly recommend Little Italy.

We were recommended this Italian restaurant and were not disappointed. The bruschetta was so flavoursome. Antipasti was delicious. My husband had sliced lamb and was raving about it all the way through. I had beef filet pasta with aubergine which was also amazing, perfectly cooked pasta!! Highly recommend this place

I am on holiday and when visiting York I ate at Little Italy. This was a perfect experience with wonderful food, service and atmosphere. I returned twice more before leaving York. Special thanks to Vicenzo, Stefano and the team for their friendly service. Do try this restaurant, you will enjoy.

Authentic Italian restaurant. Big portions and the taste was authentic. Their staff was not particularly friendly. I would have given them a 5 star if I was greeted in a better manner upon arrival.

Another great Italian in York. Great service, especially as we walked in. We shared mixed brushetta and mixed seafood to start. Then shared Mafaldini pasta with pistachio pesto, king prawns, and mozzarella. This was probably one of the nicest pasta dishes we've had.

Never fails, excellent food, service and Ergest as attentive as ever. Visited at lunchtime and left with cannoli and a bottle of Mirto.

We arrived and we were met immediately by an engaging waiter who took us straight to our table and helped us talk through the menu. I had a steak(medium rare fillet) which was cooked perfectly and full of juices. I finished my meal completely full and I got talked through how they cooked the steaks so well. I have to say that my man Eryest, you are most possibly the best waiter in the World. You told us so much and then when we forgot our bag he came running after us bringing it straight to us. The only thing I regret is not giving him a better tip. #WeLoveEryest♥️

I have been here before and enjoyed it but this experience wasn’t the best… The prices are quite steep for what you get especially the wine. The staff are attentive but we were rushed to choose our meals. We were a party of six seated downstairs in the window and the door constantly opened with people asking if there was any room. This was annoying and cold when people kept the door open whilst enquiring. A sign in the window would help when fully booked. We asked for our bills to be separated for three couples which at first we were told no but then the waiter came over with a calculator to help us. As each couple paid separately we all had £5.19 added to our bill for the service charge!!!!! So basically we paid £15+ for service for our table which I think was ridiculous. Because if this I would not return. I had lasagne which was very rich annd pasta was hard and dry ant the edges… and I had stomach ache all night after eating this. This was £17 and did not come with anything else. They don’t sell garlic bread or pizza which other group members were very unhappy about. As stated before in previous reviews the toilets are on the second floor and at the top of very very steep stairs. Not good if you’re not able bodied. This place is popular but I don’t rate it for the price… they are greedy.

Absolutely outstanding restaurant 👌

Food and service excellent with quality ingredients in generous portion sizes. But I do take issue with wine prices. The house red, which I know well from my local Italian in Nottingham was somewhat over the top at £29. I know the wholesale cost is single digit. Then the toilets. If you are physically impaired forget it because you have a mountain to climb. I now know the owners cannot alter this because it’s a listed building. However, think they should include something on the website.

A wonderful little restaurant. Very busy, but for good reason. The food was Delicious. They make their own pasta and it was amazing. I had the Tagliatelle Dettori which I highly recommend. They were happy to make small changes from what was on the menu to accommodate, which was handy as my son is a fussy eater. The service from Mara and the others were superb. Mara was constantly looking for ways to help and ensure a great experience, such as asking what foods we like to make recommendations. At one point my son who's suffering from hay fever needed a tissue and before I could ask, the manager appeared with several in hand. When I told my son we couldn't have dessert as we were eating late and they would be closing soon, again the manager appeared, assured us we could take as long as we needed and we could indeed have dessert. A great level of attention which didn't go unnoticed. Both my son and partner thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Between the great food,amazing service and reasonable prices, I would highly recommend a visit to this gem of a restaurant.

We found this restaurant a couple of years ago. Since then we go every time we are in York. The food is authentic and perfectly presented by friendly and helpful staff. I recommend booking early as it's always fully booked. It leaves the other better known Italian restaurants standing.

Visited York with a friend and reserved a table at little Italy for lunch. We were not disappointed! The homemade fresh pasta was outstanding (CRAB & LOBSTER RAVIOLI and my friend had a TAGLIATELLE SALSICCE E PORCINI) and the service very good - very friendly and lovely atmosphere. Booked here because it was very close to our hotel we were not disappointed quickly seated food delivered in a timely manner after ordering which arrived freshly cooked just how we ordered and very good quality. This restaurant keeps the italian culture alive in York. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the food is unquestionably one of the best in york, especially for the price! Our server Ergest with other servers who helped were wonderful and will come back again for the millionth time.

This is a hidden gem - absolutely amazing real Italian food done better than well. The service was equally impressive attentive without being over bearing. Made a short break to York incredible.

Little Italy is the best Italian restaurant I've ever had the pleasure of dining at. The food is rich and flavoursome, but at the same time, it is remarkably fresh. When you eat here, you can tell that they're discerning with their ingredients. That is the first allusion to the authenticity of this establishment. In Italian cooking, chefs notoriously take pride in the quality of their fare. The service is lovely. The staff are warm and polite, always wearing a smile. As well, the atmosphere is very cosy, intimate, and somewhat rustic. I've been told that the majority of the staff here are Sicilian in origin. However, inside, it feels as though you could be in a villa in Tuscany. To make all this even better, they have a delicatessen on the ground floor. So, you too can take their ingredients home and have a go yourself. When I visited Little Italy, I tried three items on the menu. They were: 1) Casarrecce alla Toscana - Containing Tuscan sausage and steak. 2) Mushrooms in Garlic Sauce with Polenta - Rich and top-notch. 3) Bufala Mozzarella - Fresh and light. This was the perfect starter. If you're in York and looking for a good Italian to visit after work... ... Don't go to Pizza Express or ASK Italian. Pay a visit to Little Italy. It'll serve as a reminder that nothing beats the real thing. 🍝

We recently dined at Little Italy, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, and amazing with my one year old granddaughter, who absolutely loved the attention. Overall, my experience at Little Italy was exceptional, and I can’t wait to return for another memorable meal on our next visit to York. Highly recommended!

Fantastic Italian restaurant and incredible service from Stefano and Enzo on a very busy Saturday night. Once again food was fantastic, wine delicious and their limoncello tiramisu is to die for.

Visited the deli counter during a trip to York and tried a few different cannolis (pistachio, white chocolate, Lotus and coffee flavours) they were really delicious and we returned the next day to get some more before we left for home, staff were friendly and prices were very reasonable. Will definitely be back next time we are in York.

This a fantastic and authentic Italian restaurant, definitely one to try when coming to York. I personally recommend "Pasta Aurora", which is spaghetti (fresh pasta) with seafood and sauce.

Amazing night out. All the seafood is fresh from Hodgeson’s Service was attentive without being intrusive. Timings on the courses were spot on. Wine list is comprehensive with some good choices. Portion size is generous without being too much. Gluten free options were also plentiful. Will be adding Little Italy to our regular restaurant rotation.

Myself and my husband visited Little Italy for lunch last week. We used to go but haven't been since before Covid. It was as fabulous as ever. The food was gorgeous, the waiter friendly and efficient. We'll definitely be back

We've been to this lovely little restaurant several times. Sat just behind Monk Bar, the restaurant has a good deli downstairs and restaurant upstairs. Little Italy has a good menu of antipasti, fresh pastas, grills, secondis and sweets. The service is friendly and efficient and the food was, as usual, really good. I chose: - Burrata e Prosciutto Di Parma: A soft and creamy mozzarella cheese, served with Parma Ham and torpedino cherry tomatoes. Garnished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, basil and oregano. - Gnocchetti Piccanti con Salsicce e N'Duja: Homemade gnocchetti pasta with delicious spicy Italian 100 %pork sausages. Served with rich Calabrese pesto of aubergine, sun dried tomatoes and spicy N'cuja. The dishes were excellent and the portions were very large - we shared the starter and I couldn't finish my main. Great wines and grappas. We'll be back!

Best Italian in York! Delicious food and excellent staff

This place was amazing! We were looking for a place and the police recommend us to go there as soon as we said “pasta, Italian food” and he was absolutely right. The place is beautiful, the food is excellent and Maria, the woman that attend us was so lovely and funny. We had so much fun with her, she’s the best! If you are in York you HAVE to visit this restaurant, is a MUST!

We loved our evening at Little Italy. The cosy and welcoming atmosphere was matched by a really inviting (and vast!) menu. We chose the antipasti platter and pasta specials and they were really delicious. We are only visitors to York sadly but have keenly recommended Little Italy to our local friends.

It took around 40 minutes waiting for this plate but once I got it I thought it was totally worth the wait. My favorite seafood pasta ever. It’s incredible. Spaghetti is great and seafood is fresh. If you order this menu I promise you won’t regret. This is possibly the best seafood pasta in the world, at least for me. I miss this place.

Came across this place while I was having lunch, grabbed a sandwich and it was superb. The lady working the deli counter was lovely. We then decided to have dinner at this place and this is the best italian food I've had in the UK. Highlight of the night was the pistachio pesto pasta with prawns. The prawns were cooked to perfection. Desserts were all great as well, the tiramisu is lemon instead of the coffee/chocolate. Very light and refreshing. Shout out to ENZO for being a great server! I went a few times many years ago and it was always decent but never amazing. Went at the weekend and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Genuinely reminded me of eating in Rome. Had a starter to share and two different mains between us. All were absolutely outstanding. The sort of meal you eat slowly because you don't want it to end. After my historic experience I wouldn't have chosen it but very glad it was booked for me. Will definitely go back. Best Italian meal I've had outside Italy.

Wow this place is incredible! The most delicious Italian food and great customer service 🤩 I would 100% recommend eating here if you are ever in York and I will definitely be back!

Terrible food and customer service. I was served unopened mussels as a starter, when I sent the starter back I was asked what the problem was by the waiter and told it was only 1 mussel that hadn’t opened!! (It only takes one to kill you!) No apology, replacement or offer of an alternative starter was made so I had to watch the rest of my party eat their starters. The main course was no improvement, the pasta in my dish ranged from very soft to beyond firm and the fillet steak pieces mixed through it were very chewy; I left half of the dish. The staff were more concerned with moving on the table than ensuring we had a good experience, they showed no concern that they had failed to provide the expected level of food or service. I left the restaurant £75 poorer for my wife’s meal and half a bowl of pasta that was only eaten due to hunger and went straight to a takeaway for a proper meal. This restaurant came highly recommended, but was woefully poor, I’ve had better food and service at Italian chain restaurants. They even had the cheek to ask for a tip, I will not be returning to little Italy!!

Was staying in York for Christmas and booked this restaurant for Saturday before Xmas. Husband could not fault his meal. I had swordfish and thought it would have been better.

Not good for people with allergies, would definitely avoid, kitchen is too small and busy to be safe. Food is good and atmosphere is also good!

Lovely, hidden away gem 💎. This has to be the best lasagne I've had. You can tell everything is fresh, pasta bologna, which my little girl was beautiful. Thank you Enzo and the team.

Well where to start, definitely not up to the reviews. Bland food starters over priced. The mushrooms tasted of nothing. The bread and olives stale, one main out of 4 maybe worthwhile the fillet steak tasted of nothing The staff well again where to start no attention and when asked for another drink felt like asked for earth to move The Italian accents also funny

This is a great little restaurant. Wonderful food, great atmosphere. Can’t recommend this place strongly enough! We had the cheese and polenta starter and frito misto followed by tagliatelle dettori and the lamb rump. My mother had the lemon tiramisu pudding and hasn’t shut up about it since so it must have been delicious! You have to try Little Italy!

Beautiful food, wine and staff. We had the garlic mushrooms and king prawns for starters . I had the pasta and the hubby had a rib eye steak. All the food was excellent and really good house wines too. They make fresh pasta also .

Great location near to York Minster - proved a perfect choice for an evening meal before we attended a music event. Wide selection of food in a bustling popular restaurant. Left to enjoy our food at leisure in a relaxed cosy atmosphere. Thanks to Ergest our waiter.

I had dinner with my wife here last night and we were very well looked after. The staff got the level of attentiveness just right. The menu choices were great and the food, especially the pasta which is made on the premises, is superb. We will definitely eat here again. Highly recommended.

Best Italian we’ve ever had! Both the food & service were incredible. We had to wait a bit for our booking but the waiters Stefan & Enzo took great care of us, they pulled up stools for us in the deli, brought us aperol spritz and a complementary plate of freshly cut mortadella meats while we waited. We both had pasta dishes with seafood and the portions were very generous - didn’t scrimp at all. On our way out we bought a big bag of cannolis from the deli and were definitely not the disappointed by these either!

This restaurant was recommended to us by a family friend who frequents York and it absolutely lived up to her rating. WOW! We did not have a reservation but the hostess graciously found a seat for us, and we had a lovely table by the window overlooking the action below. Our server Ergest was charming, professional and a good ambassador for the restaurant. The food - too difficult to describe how fabulous it was. Highly recommend!

Visited last night for the first time for Grandma's 81st Birthday. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming. we did wait about 10 minutes until seated despite booking but this was a sign of a good restaurant... it was very busy for a Monday so I'd reccomend pre booking. I took children ages 8, 13 and 16 and they accommodated so beautifully on portions and the waitress Mara was so attentatve and kind. Service was impeccable and they made a lovely gesture for Grandma's birthday. We had the Lobster Ravioli special, steak and chicken cannelloni and all were delicious. House Red is also fantastic for the price! We will be back 💖🙏🏻
