Lion & Key Cafe Bar Grill in Waltham Forest

We were staying for 2 nights at the hotel so had our first evening dinner here for ease. Really impressed with the large portion sizes and price! We couldn’t finish our meals as were so tired but was not a reflection on the quality. We had our first breakfast here in the morning and it was so good we cancelled our brunch for the next day at a different venue and came here again. The L&K breakfast is perfect. The fruity French toast included is a lovely sweet addition with the salty fry up food. 10/10 recommend.

Be warned the place is a risk to people who are lactose tolerant, as well vegans. Oh bot to mention rude, misleading and lack in customer service. My friend to me along for a birthday drink here, I persuaded her to have a pina colada with me, she is a vegan so was skeptical about the ingredients used. The menu read read "rum, coconut cream, pineapple" so no dairy products. So we both agreed it was suitable.for vegan, just like any other human would think. As my friend was walking back from the ladies she noticed normal milk (dairy) near the waitress who was starting to make the drinks, she approached the waitress and asked can you tell me what ingredients are used to make a pina colada. The waitress says, rum, dairy milk, coconut syrup and pineapple. My friend changes her drink to a wine as the original order hadn't yet been made. When the waitress brought the drinks over we explained that the information on theri menu was misleading, to which she responded we dont write vegan on the drinks. I explained that you can't say you make with coconut milk and then add normal milk. If a person was lactose intolerant person drank it, they may have caused someone serious ill health and a potential lawsuit. Not to mention people's beliefs and morals. I said I simply providing you feedback as you cannot mislead your customers, she said she would let management know. My friend asked for a refund of the difference which was a small amount but it was her right to ask for it. The waitress returns back after a couple minutes and tells us we owe them 95p. Are you serious woman!!! We just explained to you how we couldn't have the drink we wanted because you mis-led us, voiced our concerns and gave you feedback and instead of saying there is a difference of 95p we owe you but no worries, you will adjust it and apologise this waitress started huffing and puffing saying we had to pay 95p. I told her to get a manager, conveniently a manager is not around. I told her to stop and now listen to me, "not once did you say sorry about the misleading information, not once did you say let me offer you a drink on the house as an apology. I said again several times have you apologised on behalf of the company l, she kept talking over me about the 95p and how she would provide feedback. This waitress did not have any hospitality skills whatsoever, I has to ask her to move away and let me try and enjoy my birthday drink with my friend. As she walked away in a strop, she said out loud "I'm not sorry though". If this is your idea of customer service Lion & Key, you really need to get some training in hospitality and customer service. I do not trust a word you write on you menu or what comes out of your mouth. I have had a halal breakfast here and now I wonder if youdid serve me halal or non-halal food. You cannot be trusted as far as you can be thrown, I won't be coming back even though you are minutes away. If I could give you a zero I would, thank you for a memorable birthday drink and thank for the experience I will make sure I mention this in the community social media platforms. You clearly do value your customers or have any morals.

I’ve recently spent the night at the lion and key hotel and ate in the restaurant bar. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and professional. The restaurant served very nice food. It was overall a lovely place to stay and would recommend if you want to stay somewhere near the Olympic park stadium

I have come here for a snack lunch a couple of times and have enjoyed the experience greatly. Last night I came in for a meal and a beer with a relative. He had the chicken shish and I, the lamb plus a shared starter. What a meal it was. Large platefuls of meat and chips for him, meat/bulgar for me plus dips and tomato/pimento and a side salad. Very attentive service too. I really recommend the food here. Not the cheapest but by no means the most expensive either in fact very reasonable I thought. I am eyeing the breakfast menu now with Turkish sausage and can see I might have to come here earlier in the day. (The toilets were also clean and shiny, always a very good sign that the place and its customers are well cared for)!

I rarely give out low reviews as I usually do a little bit of research when finding new places to eat, this was definitely a 2/2.5. I came because my sister wanted to and I wasn’t impressed. The service wasn’t great, considering we were 3 out of about 7 people eating, the two waitresses seemed too busy talking behind the bar than serving us well. Both girls were not very welcoming or friendly. The food was very average with very limited choice for veggie/vegan people. My sister tried the chicken burger and she said it was very tough. I went for the falafel and halloumi wrap which was very burnt underneath. Won’t be going back.

Warm welcome as I approached the bar, the person who served me led me to their lovely seating area as she told me about the discount available on the food. Wonderful meal, drink and surroundings. Going back this weekend. Thank-you.

We ate here for an evening meal and two mornings for breakfast as we were staying in the hotel. The evening meal was great. Had fish and chips plus carbonara and garlic bread. Amazingly fresh and filling. Breakfast was disappointing. Very greasy and not what we expected at all.

Honestly the worst meal I've had in a very long time. I used Deliveroo as I often do when I'm in the area. Delivery was more than 30 minutes later than advertised because they were struggling to get a rider. I can accept that it was Friday evening so it would be busy. What I cannot accept is that I ordered a rare fillet au poivre but that is NOT what I got. You can see from the photos that the steak was neither rare or a fillet. I have spent 20 years in the restaurant trade and this was definitely not a fillet. It was a poor quality sirloin at best. If they are selling this as fillet they really need to find a new butcher. The rest of the meal was okay but if you do not receive what you order (the most expensive item on the menu) it's not okay.

Food in here is amazing, haven't had a steak that good in a long while, my wife's pasta was very good too. Compliments to the chef, the food would more than acceptable in a high class London hotel.

We needed somewhere to have lunch as there was no hospitality in the O's 1881 Suite for the FA Trophy match against Beaconsfield. I searched the web and was impressed with the extensive menu. Consequently, I booked a table for 4 which was ideally situated in the corner for our relaxing lunch. We were impressed with our very filling main courses and friendly service, especially from the Manager. We had no room for sweet, but the cakes looked very tempting. This venue is easily found, and is about a 10 minutes easy walk to the O’s ground where they won 4 – 0. There is also a Hotel here, with reasonably priced, attractive bedrooms according to the photos on the web. Many thanks for contributing to a most enjoyable day. Some photos are attached.

This restaurant is part of the hotel. Both have been created by modernising an old pub. The restaurant is good. Service is prompt and helpful. I had a Turkish dish (Spicy Sausage Pizza type of thing) which was excellent. a very large portion and good value. I also had a side order of fries (also good) but didn't really need them as the main dish was so large. I saw plenty of enormous plates of food being carried to other tables. I guess plenty of food is a bit of a house speciality. This is not an upmarket place, but comfortable and serves good honest, filling food.It is very good value

A real piece of heaven on the high street, this cafe, bar, grill is contemporary with an extensive menu of food, drink and cocktails and long opening hours..... The restaurant has an open kitchen which is very very clean and well stocked, the waiting staff are very genuine and the food is beautiful....a real treat. And, if you stay In the hotel, you get to eat here too!

Delightful place, with a large pizza, pasta, Turkish food menu all served in the most enormous portions by very friendly people at a snip of a price. Great place to relax, catch up and eat 'till you bust.

Can't recommend it highly enough, good choice and fair value. Well prepared and presented, impressive. Will go back.

Never been there but I order food delivered and it, is, delicious! The Turkish breakfast is truly the best I've had in London!

Lovely little hotel in East London. Modern decor, clean and well presented. First room I was given was cold and uninviting, nothing like the room I’d booked. I spoke to reception who then showed me 3 rooms. Found the one I’d booked, it was lovely,...

Great looking restaurant, clean and furnished very well. Food selection very good, all delicious and huge portions- you won't leave hungry for sure.

Went there twice on the same day. Sat outside for coffee in the morning. Service good. Had a meal there that evening. Service and attention great. Food beautiful and a varied menu that does not break the bank. Look forward to going back.

I had the L&k special pizza which consisted of chicken pesto cheese and all sorts on it . Was so lovely it was a really great pizza . Amazing food. Came Tuesday back in April 24th on orients last home game and last home game...

Turkish based restaurant but their fish and chips are to die for. Attentive staff,good food at a reasonable price, Turkish and English food well presented with the kitchen in full view. Give it a try you will not be disappointed. Jennifer and Denis.

It was a mix of European and Turkish cuisins, but whatever I tried there was perfect - steaks (both salmon and beaf) were very yum, salads were nice, breakfasts were great! The shef was great, what can I say :)

The chef here is amazing! The staff is friendly and the food is quite delicious. We were staying at the hotel and got the chance to try both breakfast and lunch menu. Definitely will recommend this place.

Once we got over our worries about the unfamiliar breakfast menu we found the food excellent, freshly made, generous portions and beautifully presented. The service was excellent too. Great coffee too.

I placed an order for delivery with uber for 2 and when we get it. Suprise ! It was only one but charged for 2. No telephone no si I can contact them. Bad service ! Small portion.

I came here on a Friday evening for dinner with a friend, very clean, very welcoming and excellent customer service. The food was very nice, will definitely be going back there again!
