Been to the White Hart before and enjoyed it. After the re-brand to Antlers I thought I would give it a go. On reflection, that was a mistake. As a 'large group' (less than 10) they insisted we order off the 'celebration menu' (picture enclosed) and wouldn't allow us to chop and change between that and the a la carte menu. Which is fine, their choice. That apart, I now realise, compared to the lunch menu (also enclosed), I ended up paying a £4.50 premium for dinner. Unsure if that's usual in the industry? Food was mediocre and, in some dishes, scarce. For example, the Bengali prawn scampi were three bits of chewy prawn in a very thin batter that just fell off as soon as you tried to spear it with your fork, all accompanied with an indifferent and tasteless garnish. The house burger was a little better but there was no hint of truffle, so at £18.95 it was probably £5 too expensive. Chips were good though. The funniest thing was someone ordered a coca-cola and what arrived was perhaps the smallest bottle I have ever seen. General decor was okay, just don't look up, they need to sort out the unsightly glass ceiling. Delay between starter and main was the biggest issue, pleased we had no desserts! I didn't time it but it felt like an age. We weren't a big party so their inability to cope was surprising, particularly given the place was almost empty by that time. Some staff better than others, overall friendly and welcoming. However, things like asking only half the table if they wanted more drinks and ignoring the other half just felt a bit off. The location is fantastic, so I understand they can charge a premium. However, there are a few places around this area, so they need to compare and contrast. £30 (and more, given service charge) for two courses isn't unusual these days but they have to deliver in terms of service and food. For me, they fell quite a bit short.

Re-badged as Antlers Restaurant, but can't find that on this site. We have complained privately to the place, but received no response, so thought we'd better warn others. One of our party almost ordered a 'fish pie sauce' only to find out last minute that it contained mussels. No mention on the menu, so had to re-order in a bit of a fluster. When the desserts turned up, they were not what we ordered, but with no explanation beforehand which would have allowed a re-order, so we got what we were given. One of the desserts was carrot cake, but deconstructed to the point of being impossible to recognise. Small pieces on a large plate, probably a spoonful in total for £8.50. These issues were raised in an email to the Hotel, who seem uninterested in apologising or addressing them, so here we are. In all, poor service, poor after service and a very expensive disappointment.

Went for Afternoon Tea and we were really excited as the restaurant looks amazing, we frequent the bar regularly and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. Sadly we were actually disappointed with the afternoon tea, the sandwiches were dry as they had obviously made in advance. There was quite a few tiny little cakes which were pleasant but certainly no WOW effect and very middle of the road! Nothing else savoury apart from the sandwiches compared to other nearby hotels. It basically felt like a very ordinary paint by numbers afternoon tea with no extra thought or effort to reflect its amazing surroundings. I wouldnt recommend it and won't be back again for afternoon tea...though the cocktails in the bar are amazing! Just put some effort and imagination into your afternoon tea...share a photo on Facebook and we will try again!

I wish I’d bothered to read the reviews before booking this for a friends big birthday as it really put a dampener on a good night. The service was just so ridiculously slow. After over an hour waiting for starters we asked for a complimentary bread basket to be told absolutely yes, but not complimentary. Apparently the delay on service in an almost deserted restaurant was due to us being a large table (a table of 7!) who booked this over a month ago. Quite frankly if you cannot staff your tables you shouldn’t be accepting bookings. The food was lovely but the wait and the customer service was completely unacceptable. I don’t mind paying expensive prices when the service reflects that however the team they have working don’t have any customer service training and don’t care. The fact they charge an automatic service charge on top is almost laughable considering how abysmal it is. There are an abundance of good quality independent restaurants in the bail so my advice is just to avoid this place at all costs.

First of all it is a little confusing when trying to write a review about The Antlers Restaurant on TripAdvisor when it is still using the old Grille Restaurant !!! My partner and myself visited midweek and in the early evening using a Christmas present voucher from my daughters. This entitled us to an allowance towards our meal and a free bottle of house wine. I have to say that we thought the white house wine was in fact very nice and well chosen by the restaurant. We enjoyed our starter and also the main course though I did have a slight issue with the steak being overcooked. We were well attended though we could see that the larger attended tables were having issues (still) with slow service. I can only comment and give 5☆ on our personal experience which despite the minor issue that was resolved by our waiter Henry. He was very attentive to our needs and informative regarding the food and wine. It is fine dining but we would perhaps give it a little more time for those little issues to be resolved before returning for a special occasion.

Staff here were fantastic and made our evening meal a lovely experience. Although very busy they found us a table for two and were helpful and good humored throughout the evening. Excellent garlic bread starter and main dishes of lamb and duck. Only negative is that some of the tables for two are very close together when conversations are loud nearby! We would return, but book a window table!

My husband booked a table for us here for valentines night, £80 for the valentines menu but thought it’s a special occasion and our anniversary. The food was appalling, the quality for £80 we would have been served better food in Weatherspoons. Totally disappointed. We were expecting a fantastic meal, there was no added extras to show it was valentines evening but are happy to charge £80. The champagne cocktail just tasted like juice. I’m not sure how they warrant charging this amount for something that isn’t of quality.

We have come here on a regular basis for the past ten years!! We just have a steak and a bottle of wine - no starter, no pudding. Last night we visited, the restaurant as usual was very quiet and we had our usual table by the window. The wine was served and the steaks arrived. My husbands was perfect, mine was undercooked, and had a white vein running through it, which looked very odd, the fat was not fat, just gristle. When we pointed this out to the young lady, and were offered a free dessert - which neither of us eat. That was all, no apology, no reduction in bill, nothing!! I am sad to say that we wont be going back!!

We were here 4 years ago and my review then was excellent sadly I can't give the same rating this time. We were visiting family in Lincoln and booked a table for the Saturday before Christmas early evening. When we arrived the bar was extremely busy ( to be expected ) so we had one drink and went straight through to the restaurant. The service overall was reasonably good. I require a gluten free meal due to coeliac disease, we book here because they cater for me. Initially I was given an out of date menu so when I ordered they swiftly returned with the correct menu. The food was rather disappointing! Some items they only had one portion of! Really? Early on a Saturday evening! My gf mini quiche starter was barely warm which was a disappointment as I rarely get pastry items when eating out. We all had pork for our main, it was presented well but lacked taste we all agreed.

This was supposed to be a Christmas treat, no!! only 12 people in, but over 20 minutes for our drinks to turn up. The starters were over priced and only average. Our main meal turned up minus the vegetables, which had run out!! the meal was 20 pounds but rather average in taste and the cocktail was awful. It felt like the normal chef had the day off and someone just stepped in. We have been many times before and had a great experience, but this time, very disappointed. Other people around us also seemed to be having a similar experience.

Staying at the hotel so booked a table for the Monday evening based on advertised menu, shown to our table and given menus, a few minutes later the waitress returned to advise us that as it had been a very busy weekend and not all items on the menu where available. There where no steaks of any kind,no mixed grills,no vegetarian dish and no mussels which left very little choice. I choose pork belly served on a bed of cabbage she returned a few minutes later to say it couldn’t be served as advertised as they had run out of cabbage so would a selection of vegetables be ok. I find it difficult to understand how knowing the parties and functions they had booked that they could not plan and order sufficient stocks.

Came in as we were attending the Christmas market but wanted a nice place to sit and enjoy a meal. We were literally ushered into a dining room before even having chance to decide wether we were wanting to eat there or not. We were asked if we were wanting to eat or just have a drink, but the bar was full and if we wanted a table there was only one available so we should take it or we wouldn’t get one. The only thing on offer once we were seated was a Christmas menu, with a choice of two courses or three, not actually wanting a two course meal at lunch time, and not really wanting a Christmas dinner, we reluctantly ordered. Well! The starter that came gave us a laugh, a tiny half of a pear with no more than half a crushed walnut and a sprinkling of Stilton, which could have all been ate in one fork full! The mains were just warm, with hard vegetables which consisted of two small brussel sprouts and a bit of other veg. The best thing from the whole meal was the orange cheesecake. We weren’t asked if our meal was ok.To be honest you wouldn’t be expecting it to be too fantastic, it was obvious that the customers were being treated as a conveyer belt system, rushed in and rushed out. There was no customer service and the man on the door had the attitude of, Are you coming in or not, if not step aside and let someone else in. We wanted to have a really nice day and treat ourselves to a nice relaxed, special meal with our mum, we would have been better off with a sandwich from Greg’s!

The waitress returned to accept our payment and again didn't ask after our enjoyment. Service shocking. Will not return. As we left bonone at all said goodbye or thankyou. Shocking. Went for a quiet bite to eat on a Monday night, so it was not busy by at the Grille by any stretch. We were seated at the window which looks out onto the lovely cobbled streets of uphill Lincoln and is what gives the restaurant such a great position. The service was not rushed given it was quiet night, but very pleasant. We had the fish and chips which were much more cultured than I had anticipated. More small pieces of fish sat on a bed of crushed peas, but all very tasty and with a decent portion of chunky chips on the side and a homemade tartare sauce. All in all very enjoyable if a little more pricey than average. All round a good experience.

Ordered olives and bread for starter this evening, the bread came with oil, salt and aioli. Very minimal amounts of each, literally a thimble sized for two people to share. The olives were terrible quality and reminded me of cheap supermarket jars. We ordered two Lamb dishes, it was presented beautifully but from the first few mouthfuls I was convinced it tasted fishy. I asked my husband who couldn’t taste it on his, it wasn’t inedible but ruined to experience of having my lamb, which I love so much. Towards the end of my husbands meal he agreed it tasted fishy and took out a chunk from his mouth that looked like tuna flakes. We ate our meals but didn’t enjoy it anywhere near as much as I hoped. I would normally have stopped eating and asked for another but I convinced myself there was something wrong with my tastebuds. When we asked the waiter if it had been cooked in the same pan or grill as fish, he went to ask the chefs. He didn’t come straight back to us, it took him at least five minutes, to which he told us they wash the pans in between but yes they do use the same pans. I’m not convinced it was washed properly, I told him I was disappointed with my dining experience. It’s still not sitting right with me, we weren’t even offered so much as a complimentary drink. We won’t be returning, mainly because I don’t trust the pans are cleaned thoroughly and the waiter didn’t seem to take me seriously enough. No marks for customer service skills. Long story short, it was the best fishy lamb I’ve ever had!!

I made a booking weeks in advance for 10 people at 14:30 on the 15th of September for a Sunday Lunch on my wife’s birthday with her and her family. When arriving, we were told that you had run out of almost all the Sunday roast dishes except for Gammon! This is absolutely ridiculous when you know you have a party of 10 turning up. If we had been advised to pre-order before turning up we would have but there was no mention of this when or after making the booking. This was very embarrassing and a waste of time as we ended up leaving due to this poor planning on your restaurants behalf. I understand that the site may have been busy during the morning but I would expect some common sense to think that there is a group that has pre-booked weeks in advance and maybe they would be ordering a Sunday Roast on a Sunday! Not exactly difficult to work that out. Overall just very disappointing. Contacted the restaurant directly about this and received no response so far.

No - most of the time the servers were nowhere to be seen or if they did materialise it was folded arms and as if catering for 3 tables was too much. As the bill came to nearly £300 for 5 of us we were to say more than slightly disappointed. Food was at best mediocre that night and as we have dined at the White Hart previously we were more than surprised as our previous visit had been such a success and for that price it did not match expectations - plus the table was not in a particularly nice aspect either - in full sight of the loos. Thanks White Hart.

We visited the The Lincoln Grille at the White Hart during a very busy Lincoln Christmas market. We were greeted at the door by a friendly guy who accompanied us through to the restaurant. We were given a set menu which seemed to cater for everyone. The food was delicious as were the drinks. The service was great too. We were asked to order all our courses at once due to it being so busy but I felt this helped deliver a great service. Therefore waiting times were irrelevant which was great. We were overcharged but once this was brought to their attention it was rectified immediately. Thank you for lovely food and great service.

Popped into the White Hart after visting the Grand Medieval Joust at Lincoln Castle on Sunday 5th August. To be fair, this was the third restaurant we tried (after looking for reviews on Trip Advisor) but the previous two, although open, weren't doing food (at 5:30pm on a Sunday evening?)Anyhow, we'd eaten here before so popped in.The Grille area was virtually empty and we were seated promptly. We were offered two menus, one which was available until 6pm and the second (and more expensive A-la-Catre menu) available from 6pm.As we were hungry, hot and tired we oped to eat immediately. The first menu was a fixed price 2-course or 3-course. This menu is rather limited. We both chose the same starter and main course, prawn cocktail (takes you back) and battered haddock with herb-crushed peas. Both were delicious and were served very quickly. The chips were well-cokked with a fluffy inside, the herb-crushed peas were very nice and the battered haddock large. For a quick (and cheap-ish) meal, this was ideal and can be recommended.Had the fixed-price menu been a bit larger, this review would have been 5 stars. It should really be 4.5 (or 9/10 if you like) but TripAdvisor only allow 4 or 5 stars, so my award of 4 stars looks a bit harsh.

We decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a 'romantic' dinner for 2 at the restaurant. There was plenty of choice on the menu and a!l our options were delicious. Three courses plus wine and coffee was just £100. Great evening with attentive waiting-on staff, quality food and a view onto the quaint street. Our second visit here, as we'd celebrated our daughter's graduation here after the ceremony at the nearby cathedral. At lunch, they do a wonderfully set-priced menu - can't be beaten for price and quality. Next, we'd love to stay overnight at the hotel.

I went into this restaurant based on the menu posted outside only to find out when I went in it was a different menu. Not very busy. I was told I couldn't sit in the window as the tables there were reserved (really?).The prices were quite expensive so I went for one of the cheaper options at £12.95 - roasted cauliflower with raisin puree, bhaji, spicy baby potatoes with coconut curry sauce. It was very tasty but the portion size was surprisingly small for the price.I asked to see a dessert menu and was duly given it but then I was ignored for quite some time. I would have ordered a dessert but because it took so long for the waiter to come back to me I thought "s*d it I can't be bothered".Not sure I'd be back.

Decided to eat here as we were staying in the Hotel and it was such a poor evening weather wise..The food we had was very nice and more than adequate for us to enjoy the evening. However I must say that the restaurant it self is not an inviting venue; even though it looks as if it had just undergone an upgrade. This was planned as a special occasion we had really looked forward to but we were so disappointed. The menu did not offer much choice (I think the menu has been reduced for Christmas or as it was Christmas market weekend). The table was not fully laid missing cutlery and glassware. Service was slow and bordering on rude. Surprised that starters were cold. We had the goats cheese tart (which tasted more like a cheese and pickle sandwich) and the pork shoulder -gross cold. Braised steak for the main which whilst delicious came with no green vegetables at all. The plate looked incomplete, and we're were not advised that we should have requested a side of vegetables at the time of ordering. By the time it came we couldn't be bothered to wait for them to be added to our order. Dessert was OK but nothing to write home about. We won't be returning. A waste of money for a very uninviting, unprofessional and extremely disappointing average meal.

My first comment would be, don't bother. Lincoln has some very nice eateries but this is definitely not one of them. Shocking service, drinks finally came out as we we're finishing our food. Fatty cold steak, 10 chips and half a mushroom... Slow and painful service asking for more drinks and sauces etc. Would not recommend at all, over priced for the quality of food and service that you are given.

Dined here today on the 2 for £15 Christmas menu. The starters-goats cheese tart with sun-dried tomatoes, and chicken with game chips were a complete let down. The mains pulled this score up to a 3/5. The dishes were sausage and mash and a salmon fillet. The reason I have given 4/5 rather than 3/5 is due to the waiter, he was really polite and funny. This is the second meal within a couple of months that has been below standard for somewhere with such stature. I don’t think I’ll be giving the grille another chance anytime soon, unfortunately.

I'll start on a positive, which is that the restaurant looked good.No on to the main course. The only vegetarian option available the night I went was tofu. And it was the most disgusting food I have ever tasted! It made me gag. It's a very poor restaurant that doesn't offer other options to their customers. And if you sometimes serve others, why aren't they on the menu all the time? I was left feeling nauseous and then hungry! And if that wasn't bad enough, the other people I was dining with who had meat, asked for blue cheese sauce that tasted nothing like blue cheese...

The two starters of risotto and smoked chicken rather bland, but the ploughman’s was very good despite the dreadful dry cheese. Mains of sausage and mash, and pork steak were both generous portion and very good quality ingredients. Deserts were divine, moist brownies and light full of flavour apricot creme brûlée. However the 5 star rating was earned due to Peter the server. The meal itself would have been 4 but his pleasant, friendly chat and enthusiasm elevates to a well earned 5. I hope he is appreciated and valued as he will encourage return visits. Only £80 for four, including a well earned tip, excellent value for money.

Having visited many times and really enjoyed the food and service at this restaurant my partner and I were looking forward to our evening. We left feeling that we wouldn't be returning for some time, if ever. Our evening began poorly when we were asked three times for a drinks order which we had given to the first member of staff and which finally arrived at the same time as our starters. There was no point having a non alcoholic pina colada with a salmon entree and my partner's rum and coke was so full that they couldn't even fit ice in. These were basic problems that could easily be sorted. Instead when we asked a blue jacketed waiter when they might be coming rather than apologising, he informed me that cocktails take a long time to make. I I specifically said that I would not want it with the entree, with which we had ordered a bottle of shiraz, but that was what happened. The waiters' attitude was worse than the actual delay..The service was poor, the food had gone down by miles and- whilst beautifully presented- was very bland. I was looking forward to the salmon entree cooked in sloe gin. Instead of raw salmon slices which is what I expected, I was given a huge roll of cooked salmon which was totally flavourless. I thought my steak was pretty good, my partner's was cold. The staff failed to bring the salad that I'd ordered to accompany it at all. .The presentation of the carrot cake was outstanding, but whilst the sorbet was fine, the carrot cake itself was extremely dry/stale and inedible and I can honestly say I have never tasted anything like it. My partner finished with a double expresso and was given a single. This seemed a fitting end to our evening at The Lincoln Grille.

The staff were engaging and helpful, even though they were busy, the setting is modern, clean and comfortable, the service quick, food selection suited all of our tastes and arrived hot and tasty, the drinks choice extensive and wherever you sit, there is something to see, people or lovely buildings. There are of course many places to eat, nearby, but this is not a hotel restaurant, its a restaurant in a hotel.

After a long day, unable to face cooking we decided to eat out. The Lincoln Grille looked fairly empty at 7.15pm so we knew we'd get a table for 2. We were greeted and shown to a table, with menus following immediately. Having walked 2 miles into Lincoln on a warm evening we were ready for a chilled white wine. Waiters came and went laying tables and generally bustling about. But no-one came to take our order. After 20 minutes we asked a passing waiter if we could order and the young head waiter duly appeared. We ordered drinks and our main meal. After 10 minutes there was a clatter from around the corner in the restaurant area and my wife joked it was our drinks. Seven more minutes passed and our wines appeared, with apologies for dropping the first round. At 8pm our main meal arrived. It was well presented and, although it looked a bit on the small side (a £45 surf and turf for 2), it was just right. The food was delicious, but 45 minutes from entering to getting a meal in a near empty restaurant seemed a bit slow. When we asked for the bill it was there in a jiffy. The waiters were pleasant enough but they lacked any warmth and we were made to believe they were just doing their job. They appeared to take no pleasure in what they were doing and that makes the customer feel a bit flat. In summary: good food, slowish and impersonal service. Could have scored much better with a little more effort.
