Limoncello in Vale of White Horse

Had a lovely meal again as i have been here a few times now, but on the last visit' we were placed on a table at the front of the restaurant which was fine, but i did not appreciate having just eat delivery riders standing next to me waiting for online orders & with their arse in my face while i'm sat down eating. I love this restaurant but i'm not prepared to put up with that. Make them wait outside as your diners should get priority & not made to feel uncomfortable.

Home cooked Italian food. Very good value for money. Lovely evening for my partner’s birthday. Thank you for lovely evening as we came from Cardiff for few days.

Simply wonderful! Organised, professional and friendly staff. The food was excellent and I could not fault anything.

Restaurants like this is what we need, authentic, quality and great value. Having spoken to the owner I sincerely hope they can get through this dire time for catering establishments as they so deserve it, many thanks for a great meal

Had the bruschetta for starters, it was on a bake-at-home type roll, not very appealing. Cannelloni was nice but chicken dish was neither visually appealing nor tasty. Won't be returning, surprising for what seems an Italian family restaurant.

We drove from Newbury especially to have dinner here. We were not disappointed with the food, itwas delicious! However, the atmosphere with the staff was very poor. The waiter and waitresses level of etiquette was very poor. Not a single smile. My husband ordered 3 courses and I ordered 2. We observed that nwarly everyone who left before us was offered a glass of limoncello, but not us! Such a shame about the poor atmosphere, very off putting. Woll not recommended and will not be back!

Visiting our daughter,recently moved to Abingdon.Booked for dinner,never been here before turned out a very pleasant experience,although busy the staff were pleasant and helpful and the food was way above par for "Italian" restaurants in the UK.Between us we had a pasta dish,two veal dishes and a grilled trout all were well prepared and tasty and washed down with an acceptable Pinot Grigio.Highly recommended.

After reading reviews I must say I found this restaurant disappointing. First impression decor needs a good refresh and bread rolls were already on every table uncovered before customers arrive. I had the lasagna as a main meal it was not a great portion size and did not taste great other members had pizza that had great lumps of garlic on them. In all honesty not great homemade Italian food I can’t see how they have good reviews. Also the feeling must have been mutual as others have mentioned the complimentary limoncello which did not materialise either..

Went for lunch with granddaughter as they only do pizzas for lunch, rather than in the evening. The pizzas were delicious, freshly cooked to order (adaptations can be made) and huge - she was beaten (but offered for it to be boxed to take home). Very good value. Service was friendly and welcoming, with water, olives and (very fresh) bread rolls brought on arrival. Lovely setting, with Italian frescoes and (quiet) music.

Felt a bit let down. Dinner with friends, but staff seemed a bit unfriendly and the food was not great. I had chicken with Gorgonzola cheese. It was luke warm and tasteless, husbands steak was also lack lustre. Will not be returning.

Simple, welcome and warm experience. Didn't feel rushed. Nice with olives and bread. Italian restaurant and it felt native Italian somehow. Finally the food to us was excellent

The sardine was extremely good. The Cannelloni was excellent and the seafood pasta was very well done. Nothing fanciful, but good cooking at a reasonable price.

We came here again to celebrate my fathers birthday and they did not disappoint. The staff are very welcoming and the food is absolutely delicious and they cooked our steaks exactly the way we asked. We were too full for dessert as we had ordered delicious starters and then had our steaks. I recommend you book up asap and you will not be disappointed.

Very simple meal delivered tonight from Limoncello, couple of pasta dishes, couple of salads, one side to share. Really tasty food, we enjoyed this a lot and will be using again. Felt almost like home cooked, and also excellent value.

Found this restaurant as we were looking specifically for Italian food. This was open on a Tuesday which others weren't . The restaurant had an authentic Italian feel about it enhanced by the lovely painted murals. The food was well presented and delicious. Delicious fresh bread rolls and olives were brought to the table while we waited for our meal. For starters we had Salad tricolore, Stuffed mushrooms, minestrone soup. Mains were Linguine, fish, steak, chicken cacciatore . The steak looked a little uninspring and thin but our guest didn't comment on it so don't know how it tasted. A large dish of vegetables and potatoes was served for the meals that required it. For dessert for those who could still find a space was a lovely apple tart. Our waiter was pleasant and helpful. Toilets tastefully decorated and very clean.Altogether a very enjoyable experience. Would definitely return and would recommend. I would imagine it would be a lovely atmosphere in the evening.

Feeling sorry for myself after visiting the Minor Injuries Unit with a broken wrist, I needed some lunch that I could eat with one hand. It was just the treat I needed. Delicious. Would love to go back for an evening meal sometime.Good value too. I'm baffled by the reviewer who thought otherwise.

Dined at the Limoncello for my son's birthday, so it was his choice rather than our's. Very disappointing.The evening menu had pasta, beef, fish or chicken dishes, but NO pizzas. They're on the lunchtime menu only, but can't fathom out why. It was also a shock to see that most starters were around the £7.95 mark - that to me is way over the top, so I opted for the garlic bread at £2.50 and rated that completely average - nothing I couldn't get in any supermarket value range.For the main course I had the house lasagne and that too was very poor, though somewhat cheaper than the other mains on offer. Trouble is, that with olives, bread rolls and limoncello shots being delivered to the table, supposedly free-gratis, the customer is clearly being tapped up to cover those costs. I would rather have more reasonably priced starters than unsolicited (so-called) frills.We won't be eating there again.

My associate and I had lunch at Limocello and it was perfect. From the minatroni soup as a starter to the Veal with a Spaghetti side it was delicious. I am looking forward to visiting again in the near future.

Great night at Limoncello’s! A group of 9 of us went for dinner last night and both the food and service were top notch. Would highly recommend- many thanks for a lovely evening. Particularly liked the courgetti side dish, house red wine, and creme brûlées.

Had wanted to try this place for ages as had seen really good reviews so stopped by this evening. I ordered mushrooms in a garlic sauce and Garlic bread with cheese. I was shocked to say the least when it was put in front of me. The mushroom dish was accompanied by bread so in an Italian you would expect bruschetta style bread with a dish like this. However it had what I could only explain as Tesco thinly sliced bred cut into triangles with butter on it placed around the dish?? Who on earth serves Tesco thin sliced bread in an Italian restaurant? Then the garlic bread which I expected to be like a typical Italian garlic pizza bread done like a pizza etc instead it was half a baguette split in two with cheese on it. No garlic taste at all. Honestly the quality was like something I would expect at a cheap cheap run down cafe somewhere for a fiver. Me and my partner were really not impressed. No one asked us how our starters were and I really don’t like to complain so I thought I would leave it and see how the mains were. I ordered a pizza and my partner ordered pasta. It goes from bad to worse. The pizza was so over cooked you could barely cut into it and it had literally no cheese on it just red sauce and the toppings. Possibly the worst pizza ever. Partners pasta dish was really really bland watery taste no flavour. Still no one came and asked how the food was even when they cleared plates and we had left majority of the dishes uneaten. The only good thing was the dessert. It was nice. But the owner made a point of saying it was home made and it clearly wasn’t. We decided that the food was that bad we had to say something and usually I wouldn’t so trust me it was bad! We went about it politely and said to the owner we were not impressed with the food and really dissapointed. Before I could say anything more he jumped down our throats saying “why you telling me now for I can’t do anything about it you have had your meal” said this in a really arrogant aggressive tone. Beyond shocked as never ever received customer service like this. He didn’t even ask us what was wrong with the food how could they improve etc or offer us something else or to come back for another meal or anything like that he said it was all our fault because we didn’t say anything until the end. I made it clear that as the owner who served us it was his job to ask how our food is throughout the meal which he NEVER did. The owner was so arrogant and rude to us I was shocked. He just blamed us for everything and said it was our responsibility regarding saying something and I highlighted we had said something and it’s irrelevant when it was said. At the end of the meal or not he could have offered other food or something and at the least apologised. He didn’t apologise once. He shouted at me and my partner and it went back and fourth. This man is disgusting and that isn’t how you run a restaurant or treat people for that matter. At the end he told us to just go and that he didn’t want our money. We were happy to pay a fraction of the bill as I said the dessert was nice but that’s it but no apology just told us to leave and that was it.

Three of us went for dinner (booked ahead). Very busy on a Saturday night with a lively atmosphere. Nice bright decor inside. Served breadsticks and bread to nibble on while waiting. Main courses were high quality. Took a while to arrive but understandable given the busyness of prime time Saturday. Worth the wait, and given extra bread in meantime. Good menu to choose from. Quantity of food was spot on. Staff very nice and welcoming. Free shot of limoncello with bill is a nice touch. Would highly recommend this restaurant for great Italian in Abingdon, but booking ahead advised.

We are local and used to visit this restaurant over 10 years ago. For no particular reason we haven't visited for a long long time but it's exactly the same! Delicious, traditional food (pasta, meat/fish mains - it's not a pizzeria). Very well run and clean. Efficient service. Great to see it still doing well. We will be back again soon.

Best Italian meal I've had outside of Italy & better than an lot in Italy. Friendly staff, great service & gorgeous food!

We were a large party of guests and the restaurant was busy with other customers, yet nothing was too much trouble and the staff worked really hard to ensure everything ran smoothly. The food (starter, main and sides) was delicious and plentiful. Two courses with plenty of drinks and the service charge was about £35 per head so excellent value. The restaurant has an extensive menu with fish and vegetarian options and there always seems to be people in both lunchtime and evening.

Don't be put off as the frontage of this restaurant looks a little dated, but the food and service are truly excellent! Sea Bass was perfectly cooked and served with tempura courgette and side of green beans, Lasagne was lovely and reminded me of how it tasted in Italy, not to be confused with your high street versions :). How else to end but Tiramisu, ice chilled Limoncello all accompanied by two very nice bottles of Orvieto and a bill under £150! Not bad for 4 of us. Will be returning for sure.

We visited for the first time a few weeks ago. Service was great, staff attentive. Lovely atmosphere and even though it was quite busy we still got good service. Overall a very good restaurant which we will definitely be returning to.

Visited for my birthday, I had been wanting to eat there for a long time and it did not disappoint. As you are seated down you get the feel of an authentic, family run Italian place - as if you were in Italy. The service is immaculate, food delicious. I just think that the place would get a little more custom if it opened its doors earlier than 6.30pm, I often walk past it after work and would happily pop in for dinner if it were open earlier - which I think is a real shame!

Too long between courses and table not served at same time, maitre de had meal in hand while talking to another table after 5 mins we asked for food as rest of table was waiting and we were told to be patient

We called in on the off chance we could get a table for 3 early evening on a Saturday. No worries - give me 5 minutes and we will have a table for you. Within the time we were seated and choosing our food. It may be only a small place but don't let that put you off. The food would make many a top notch restaurant look to its laurels. I had the veal with parma ham and it was gorgeous, my wife and daughter both had pasta dishes ( my memory isn't great but I think lasagne and tortellini) which were also very very good. The service was excellent, attentive but not in your face all the time. The beers are limited to bottled but as they had Peroni I didn't mind, the house white which my wife had, was pronounced very palatable and not too alcholic ( which is always a blessing). All in at the end of the night we spent less than a hundred pounds on a damn good meal so you can't go wrong with that.

We had a table of eight for a Saturday lunch and the food was great! We could have chosen from the evening menu if we were unable to find anything on the lunch menu, but the lunch menu was reasonably wide enough to cater for all our tastes.

Starter of mussels on the specials list and wow as usual and main course best fillet steak in town in peppercorn sauce. Also best Pinot Grigio - this restaurant is really great!

We called in on the off chance after 9pm mid week (they carry on serving until 10.30pm) Great waiter service - had special which was mussels as main course delicious Proper olives to start with - Artisan bread - proper coffee and half a carafe of house (Merlot) two of us for £45.00 Great value

One of two good Italian restaurants in Abingdon (Bella Napoli is the other), we come here from time to time and are always satisfied with the food and service. OK - it's not a pretentious place and it is what it is; good wholesome Italian food in a pleasant atmosphere.

Quite simply the best fillet steak in my life. Peppercorn sauce amazing! Sauté potatoes awesome too and courgettes superb!!!!!

Came here for an evening meal and left feeling very disappointed. I’ve eaten in many many Italians in the UK and have been to Italy so I like to think I know a good Italian restaurant when I see one.

Whilst reviewing the menu outside an exiting customer said "you won't be disappointed". She wasn't wrong. An interesting menu with a good choice and some dishes I had not heard of before. Friendly efficient service and reasonably priced. Will most certainly be back.

The food we ate here was excellent and Salvatore was very good arranging gluten free food for our daughter. She is significantly coeliac and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely recommend this restaurant to others.

Yet another visit to this restaurant for a fantastic meal. Friendly service and air conditioning ! Next time I must remember just how large the portions are and perhaps just have 2 starters.

We’ve been going to the Limoncello regularly as a family, with friends or on work lunches and have never been disappointed. The food is very authentic and the service is efficient and friendly.

We were lucky to nab a booking at Limoncello on a fairly busy Saturday evening after being let down by another restaurant.

I have been living in UK for 3 years now and this was the first time I really felt like home, in Italy. I come from Sicily, and Limocello is just like the resturants in Italy. The food is really great, the prices are much lower than the ones in those fake italian chains (i.e. Ask Italina, Bella Italia, Zizzi, etc...), and finally the service was good as well... the owner is a really nice person. The food is not just nice, but also the recipes are proper Italian.

Limoncello always has very clean lemon coloured table cloths and napkins on a sunny day that look good.

Reminds me of 1970's London restaurants north of Oxford Street. Decent menu, generally good food, pleasant service. The place is rather In need of refurbishment, seating not very comfortable. Every person in our group enjoyed their food, apparently, except for me. I made the mistake of ordering 'fresh trout,' which came overcooked and dry. My tiramisu seemed to have been heated up from frozen and was tasteless apart from the alcohol in it. The red wine we were given was dreadful. I have given Lemoncello a generous 3 stars because mine was the only poor dining experience on the night.

Reserved a table for family on a Friday night for dinner. We were shown to a table at the front, would have preferred the back with the murals, next time.

A lovely Italian restaurant. Lovely food with very friendly staff. Good price ranges starting from just under £6 through to £17 or £18 per dish and therefore it's pretty affordable to most customers. Food is fantastic with very good presentation. Love the ambience with an Italian touch. ....I left feeling very happy and satisfied and with not a single doubt would definitely bring my guests there or even eat there myself again.

First discovered this restaurant about 5 years ago with my oldest friend who died 3 years ago and I haven't been able to face going there since. However, returned tonight with my husband for what I knew would be a wonderful evening. The menu is very extensive, with wonderful authentic Italian dishes, making it, even for me (the most decisive woman on the planet) hard to choose. In fact, it doesn't matter what you choose - it will be fantastic! Lovely, as well, that the owner is on hand, and not above taking orders, nor serving food. Didn't have to wait for olives and bread to appear on arrival, and the butter was soft enough to spread (so many, even 3 star Michelin restaurants get this wrong). In essence, a little piece of Italy - fantastic food, great atmosphere, wonderful service, and all under the watchful eye of the owner. We shall be regular visitors from now on. Oh, and by the way, our children are vegan/vegetarian, and there was lots of choice for them, so we might even share our wonderful experience with them next time............................

I eat here once a year in May, great restaurant good service and really good attentive service. Gluten free pasta available which was a great treat to be able to have in a UK Italian restaurant. Good attentive service, great gluten free food, they adapted the veal and Parma ham for me, nicely cooked with chips and fresh vegetables. The creme brûlée is one of the best I have ever experienced.

Took my teenage kids here on Mother’s Day. The food was really enjoyable but I found the whole experience a bit odd. I’m not bothered by the old fashioned decor, that made it feel all the more authentic and I was happy with the traditional menu. What was a bit challenging for us is that my oldest is Coeliac and although it turned out that the food was gluten free (well some dishes), the menu wasn’t properly marked up and it took me some while to be convinced that the waiter really understood the issues at stake (for those not in the know, a tiny amount of gluten can lead to a day of horrible sickness for a Coeliac). It was also a bit of a challenge trying to work out what time a table would be available. Having said that, an Italian chap popped in, sat at the table next to us, muttered “Ravioli”, scoffed his food and happily left again, so I’m sure that it is authentic. Also, they don’t advertise that you can get half sized meals for the kids, or small eaters,which drastically reduced the bill, especially for my steak loving child. I also felt that the veggie options were too limited. So there you are, authentic old fashioned Italian.... don’t spoil that, but maybe a bit more up to date with the information provided around dietary issues.

We happened to be in Abingdon for a family wedding and were enticed to Limoncello by its TA reviews. It is nice enough with friendly service and a reasonable, pretty standard staple Italian, menu enriched by daily specials. The food was fine, the meal was reasonable value but the decor was a bit dated and the whole experience was, perhaps a bit underwhelming.

A party of four of us booked on Saturday 27th . The restaurant was extremely busy which is always a good sign ! Despite being rushed off her feet The waitress was a delight . A wonderful genuine smile and very professional attentive service . The menu offers a tempting and varied selection and there are also specials available . , Ham and melon starter was plentiful and delicious as were the skewer prawns . The veal and fish main courses we chose were very generous portion sizes beautifully cooked and every mouthful a treat . The lightly battered courgettes were devine . We were too full to try the tempting sweets but will definitely return to do so ! Thank you so much to all the staff especially the chef and waitress for making evening so special .

Had a superb dinner here with some of my family. Between us we had the garlic mushrooms, garlic bread and tagliatelle to start. Lemon chicken, tortellini, pancakes and ravioli for our mains and tiramisu and gelato for pudding. All of it was delicious and authentic.

This has been a favourite restaurant of ours for years, we visited here again Saturday 21st October. We were sat at the far end of the restaurant. It took 15 minutes before we were asked if we wanted drinks and a further 15 minutes before they arrived. We then sat totally ignored for 25 minutes before we were asked if we were ready to order food. The food arrived 25 minutes later and that was the last time anyone came anywhere near our table! We were not asked if food was OK, if we wanted another drink or if we wanted dessert! Having sat for 30 minutes with no food or drink we eventually made our way to the till, asked for our bill, paid and left. We will never return. A real shame. What's happened?

Absolutely terrific restaurant and one of my favorites. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you get the feeling that the restaurant really loves the food they serve and take pride in their restaurant. The food is 100% authentic and wonderful. I recommend the pasta mains, and if you love fish then the Trout is AMAZING. Complimentary Limoncello at the end of your meal. Love it and will keep going back. Book on Friday and Saturdays all always very popular and buzzing....but they always try and accommodate.

This is one of our favourite restaurants. The food is excellent and beautifully served, with real Italian touch. The owner Salvatori is always nice and was very helpful when he helped arrange our wedding banquet. We like going back from time to time even though we now live in a different town.

Friends and still amazed. Had chicken wrapped in ham with veg and also veal with sand veg and trout. All very happy and great food. Have Pinot Grigio for perfect wine accompanied drink. Great restaurant and tastes!!

I often go to Limoncello on special occasions with family, and we always order the same dishes when we're feeling a bit nostalgic and need a tasteful reminder of authentic Italian food. The atmosphere of the restaurant definitely also adds to the experience with it's beautifully hand-painted walls (once you go there you'll know what I'm talking about).

We had a lovely family meal for three here last night while killing time waiting to pick up our other daughter from a party. The service was impeccable and the food was of a good and authentic standard. The decor with its murals transported you to Italy. A nice touch in an otherwise fairly unremarkable building. My starter of calamari fritti was well cooked and we shared two plates of pasta to follow including some excellent ravioli with Parma ham and a creamy tomato sauce. The main courses of pollo alla cacciatore and Vitella Siciliana were both delicious and came with a mountain of side vegetables. The spiralised and deep fried zucchini were particularly good but possibly a little too salty. Being a rusty Italian speaker it was nice to be able to converse with our delightful waiter who was super attentive. What else to say... Courses arrived swiftly with little fuss and tables were well spaced to offer privacy in conversation. The price for three courses with a carafe of wine (no pudding as we were too full) and with coffees was around £90 which was good value. We'd come again if we came back to Abingdon. Grazie tanto!

This was my first visit to this compact restaurant. The décor is simple but as all Italian décor goes.. effective in this venue. I was lucky to be part of a large party celebrating the life of a colleague, so the chef and staff had to cope with a lot of us. This they did excellently where each of us felt that we were treated as individuals getting first class service and excellent food. It is possible in these situations to feel as though one is part of a food service hall, and this was most certainly not the case here! There were plenty of choices to choose from and from discussion with my colleagues, all agreed how good it all was. Was it perfect? Not quite, the bolt on the gents toilet had broken, so it was not possible to lock the door. However I suspect that this was recent, and I imagine that it has been fixed by now. Give it a try, I believe you will not be disappointed.

AI top place in every way, I am going to struggle to find anything even slightly remotely bad about this place . From the get go we were met and shown to our table seated and given menu's overflowing with fantastic food .Wine and beer arrived four different starters three different mains and three sweets to finish with WOW just top notch .The staff could not have been more helpful and even though it was busy at no time did you feel anything other than calm, a waiter was there as and when you required one fantastic . So to sum up atmosphere A1, service A1, food A1 ,if you are in and around Abingdon there are lots of places to eat BUT believe me none of them come close.

A very family orient Italian restaurant! Excellent food and variety! Very good Italians wines! The service is impressive! Always we go, we feel like visiting very close friend!

Absolutely brilliant food, service sometimes a little slow only because the place is normally packed

Having spoken with a number of people in Abingdon who have had bad experiences, we went anyway. And I'm glad we did!Right from the start, the experience was the excellent romantic Italian night that I was hoping for. The owner was very attentive and extremely pleasant.The highlights were the Calamari and the Tiramisu. I was also pleased to see a number of Sardinian wine choices.We are definitely planning to go back.
