Light of Bengal in Aberdeen City

Fantastic food. Nice place to eat out. Staff polite and attentive. Great service.

I placed an order online with just eat for delivery. The order was accepted by the restaurant and I was given a delivery time of 6:30pm. The order did not arrive until 8:02pm. I called the restaurant 4 times for an update on the order. Every time I was passed around to 3 or 4 different people and advised that the order would be with me in “5 to 7 minutes”. 1.5 hours later the order arrived. Freezing cold and wrong. I ordered chicken pakora I received a mixture of 1 onion bhaji, 1 chicken pakora and 2 mushroom pakoras. I called the restaurant to advise that the food was cold and the order was incorrect. The restaurant was uninterested and repeatedly told me to contact just eat, just contact just eat. They also advised that I should have ordered directly with them. They would take no accountability as apparently the food “had went out on time” and they were “very busy with orders”. Eventually they agreed that I would get a full refund for the order through just eat. I applied for a full refund which the restaurant then refused with a message saying “The restaurant isn't going to give you any money back for your delayed order. They say: "We're really sorry your order wasn't delivered on time. We hope you enjoyed your food." No need to lie or go back on your word when you have agreed to offer a refund! The service was shocking - an Indian is not a cheap takeaway either - so it was a complete waste of time. Do not waste your time, there are plenty of other great Indians in Aberdeen including wild ginger and 8848. Both are far superior in terms of quality and service. Avoid.

A fantastic restaurant which always delivers amazing dishes. Highly recommended. The salmon tandoori is so good.

This us such a great place to eat, went there for my uncles 60th and had the upstairs booked all to ourselves. The staff there was so helpful with organising the balloons and banners. They were so helpful with recommendations on the menus. The pricing in there was really cheap (worked out as £30 pp). Definitely would go again

Today was our first time in this restaurant I must admit that food was amazing and delicious we will definitly come back. Thank-you for nice time in your restaurant. Servies 5 stars.

Food and service is first class. It's been our favourite restaurant for a long time.

The food is decent, but the treatment from the staff is quite bad, that ruins the experience. We wanted to ask what some of the dishes we had ordered were about and the waiter very rudely and mockingly suggested that if we didn't know what they were about, we were stupid.

The second I have been round and first time with my girlfriend. Amazing from start to finish. Really thoughtful and caring staff who made every effort to make sure it was a really enjoyable experience. The food was absolutely incredible and so tasteful from the first to the last bite. Thank you so much and we look forward to coming back!

This place usually has good dishes but for awhile now, when I’ve asked for a curry dish to be not chilli based, but just flavourful and I’ve come home to try it with my family, it’s just loaded full of red and green spicy chillies, this last time it was horrific, as I made it clear and it’s as if they just did the opposite, as a chef myself, you are to consider that people have allergies/illnesses so when something is asked for you do it without what was asked not to be put in it, and a curry dish can be flavourful with spices, turmeric, paprika etc the list goes on you don’t need to pack it with chilli’s, where there’s no taste or flavour at all to the dish. Disappointing, hope there’s improvement of communication & understanding with the service and the cook.

Another exceptional take away last night we had the bengal tiger and the afghani chicken garlic rice and pashwari Nan. Our meals from light of bengal never fails to surprise us. 10/10

Amazing! Nice friendly staff, very attentive & polite. Lovely welcome to the restaurant, very accommodating. Much appreciated! Food was amazing, not surprised with the amount of awards they have on show, well deserved!! Will definitely be back. Side note: only let down, one (slightly louder) female member of staff was continuously rude to another member of staff in front of many customers. Wasn’t funny nor was it nice for that lady, everyone has to learn - didn’t make her look important in the slightest.

Okaish meal tastes which does not go with the name of the restaurant. The spices and taste notes are not upto the mark. Dishes are pricey. Ordered a king prawn dish and what looks like 6-7 prawns are just 3 prawns halved. Tbh would not eat again as the tastes are not authentic bengali.

Manta is the most friendly and proficient waitress we have ever experienced. She anticipated every moment and we never had to wait . The food was magnificent. The King Prawn Patia is to die for. The whole team is so enthusiastic and energetic that one feels like royalty there. Thanks for a fantastic meal and evening

Esta noche estaba un poco decepcionado, sé que los precios han subido un poco, lo que aprecio totalmente, pero el pan nan, que suele ser demasiado, parecía ser muy fino y casi nada de sustancia, también las porciones de arroz se han cortado y había más salsa que pollo en mi plato, pero los precios aún han subido. Diría que es la primera vez que salgo de este restaurante con hambre. £ 5 por un tazón muy pequeño de arroz que me pareció bastante excesivo. Realmente estoy pensando dos veces sobre volver pero espero que esto se rectifique resultó un poco caro para lo que tienes

Este restaurante solía ser muy bueno. Ahora es horrible. Para empezar, pedimos un Puri de Gambas para compartir. Normalmente, consiste en un gran langostino real cocinado en el tandoori, encima de un Puri. Esta vez no. Langostinos descongelados en una salsa roja promedio tumbados en un chapati. Muy horrible. Pedí pollo dupiaza, que figura en el menú como uno de sus estándares. Sin embargo, no son mis estándares. Dupiaza significa cocinado de tres maneras, creo. Esta vez fue pollo y cebolla salteados, casi insípidos. La salsa podría haber sido de una mezcla de salsa Sharwoods. Nunca volverá, lo cual es una pena, ya que hemos estado yendo allí dentro y fuera, durante más de 30 años. ¡Ahora está apagado! La única estrella es para el Pashwari nan, y era solo promedio.

The waiters were very rude.. Bad customer service.. The waiter was standing in front of us and chattering the whole time while we were eating. We did not feel comfortable eating at all. Very bad behavior. If you are looking for halal food, do not go to this restaurant because it sells alcohol.

Last Sunday, my friends and I decided to drive to Aberdeen, which took about 1 hour and 30 minutes, to try out this Bengali restaurant we’d heard about. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. When we arrived, we ordered some starters and a single chicken meal. The waiter, however, made things uncomfortable right from the start by asking us overly personal questions about where we’re from and how long we’ve been in the country. He then proceeded to tell us, oddly enough, that he was “the mafia of Italy.” My friends and I exchanged puzzled looks and chose to brush it off. The real issues began when our main course arrived. Despite ordering one meal, the waiter brought us two. When we pointed out the mistake, he insisted that we’d ordered two meals. We didn’t want to argue, so we agreed to manage with what was served. His attitude, however, took a turn for the worse, telling us, “Don’t be clever with me.” It was clear he wasn’t interested in providing good service. To make matters worse, we had ordered four naan, but only two arrived. When we politely reminded him to bring the other two, he responded with an annoyed tone, saying we should have ordered everything together—although we had. Throughout the night, his behavior seemed off, making us wonder if he might have been drinking. By the end of the meal, our experience was already soured. The only saving grace was the owner, who approached us after we paid and kindly offered us complimentary tea, which was appreciated. The owner and other staff were friendly and polite, showing a clear contrast to the waiter. Advice for Management: If you’re aiming to build a good reputation, please reconsider hiring staff who don’t seem to understand the importance of customer service. One staff member’s behavior can ruin an entire dining experience. Thank you for the gesture of the tea, but unfortunately, our evening had already been spoiled.

Have ordered from Light Of Bengal for years now and the meals are excellent every time !

I think that eating here for the last 17 years speaks volumes. It is the best in Aberdeen by a long way.

I ordered Paneer Palak and Veg Biryani , paneer had no salt or spices and veg biryani was super oily , I didn't like the food.

Iv eaten here twice in last two weeks. The waiter we had last night was boarder line aggressive. Very rushed service and had zero customer service skills. You could tell he wanted to hurry us up at quickly as possible, looking at his watch all the time and even cleared starters whilst my partner was still eatin . Decent food although the service made it unenjoyable. Who wants to me rushed through a 3 course meal? Scared to stop chewing of take a beather almost out me on edge . Not sure if If i would go back tbh

Excellent restaurant serving high quality food at very reasonable prices, have been regular visitors to this establishment for nearly a year now and we are always made very welcome by the owner Ahmed and his efficient staff who are all very helpful and courteous. Starters and curries are all delicious and well presented and are delivered to your table by the pleasant and cheery chef! Always a first class service at Light of Bengal

I chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner but it was a big disappointment, the food was dry with no spices. Hubby's lamb tikka massala was too sweet. Waiters definitely need training in customer service. It was the first and last time at this strange service restaurant.

Been previously, standards slipping each time!!! Staff quite arrogant and not welcoming at all.. Food very overated....and pricey for the quality!. Should of Learnt from last time, but have benefit of doubt. Certainly won't be back..... Save your money and get a kebab somewhere or a McDonald's...

The food was excellent. As a vegan I would like to see some breads (naan or paratha?) which I could have, and maybe some acknowledgement in the menu that vegans exist, but the staff are very helpful and accommodating.

Please make sure you visit this little gem of a indian restaurant recommend by our car salesman Kieran it was absolutely fantastic the food is of 1st class quality and the service is excellent we have visited India and are very fussy on quality and know a good curry we have to say this was one of the best we have ever had .....dont pass this by go in and experience a delicious meal.

Used to be really good but there is a change. Bland and unseasoned. It’s pricey - but the food should be good I did mention it to the server but he was actually a bit aggressive. Shame

Delicious food and great service. A nice selection came with our poppadoms. My husband and I had Jaipuri, and our friends had Tikka Masala with pilau rice and naan breads. We all really enjoyed our meals and the staff were very helpful. Definitely want to return soon. Thanks to all at The Light of Bengal for a great experience

Met up with some work colleagues for a meal and one suggested this Restaurant, I had never tried this one so it was good for a change, the 4 of us were seated then drink orders were taken, we all had starters then the mains with nans, the meal was excellent as was the service.

The staters are awful .. tossed with the same sauce for lamb and chicken and the in main course we had this Uttar Bangla curry which made me sick and it also has a pungent smell that was super strong

Table booked for the 1st of Jan and hoping for a full menu/service, boy did we not need to worry. The restaurant was very busy which was a great sign of things to come. The food was incredible, tastiest curry I’ve had in years. The staff are fantastic, friendly and attentive. Certainly will be back and I’ve told all our friends and family to go also.

Not the best of curries I’ve had which is quite unusual for one of the one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Aberdeen.I was disappointed with the time we were allotted 90mins after waiting over half an hour for our food to be served.I know my dish isn’t the most spicy Indian curry but I had hoped it might have a slight kick or a taste of spice to it but it was more like a stew.My mother ordered chicken Maryland which was only chicken and chips which I ALLWAYS thought was chicken ,chips banana fritter and pineapple fritter and peasPerhaps I’m wrong?

Phoned in to order a meal and the man put me on to another staff member who was extremely rude to me I ordered my food and he said you need to pay with card, I said I don’t have a card then he was extremely rude to me that he verbally insulted me and put the phone down I would like to see something done a sacking perhaps 😡

Surprises all around at the Light of Bengal. Staff were helpful and attentive (Alom, nice job), service was well timed, including the chef delivering the food to our table - this struck a note with me as I always feel a chef should not let anything out of the kitchen he's not happy with - bravo LoB. The food was very good even if our group were not too adventurous! Onion bhaji starters were crispy with a fresh small salad nicely plated. Chicken tikka masala had been marinated and made on skewers in the oven, the lamb in the pasanda was tasty and could be separated just with a fork. Keema naan was liked by all. I would highly recommend giving these chaps a try. Ambience was pleasant, and the food good value, hot and appetizingly presented,

Food is excellent. It was really busy when we were there but service was spot on. Second time we have been there and will be back. The food is among the best Indian food I have tasted.

Visited teatime on a Sunday so very relaxed. Starters very well presented, bhaji could have been bit warmer and pakora nice but had been recooked bit still good. Lamb bhuna main was good. However my Nawabi Bengal chicken dish was superb. We eat a lot of indian food and have eaten in many curry houses and this dish is now in my all time top five. Really good, highly recomend it, will be back to eat it again next time in Aberdeen

My hubby and I have a takeout meal once a week and it’s got to be L O B. Delicious food and everyone is so kind and helpful. If there’s a small problem of any sort they fix it and also generous with a wee treat to make up for it. Keep up the good work love, love, my favourite restaurant and weekly delivery.. Helen

This must be one of the poorest meals I have ever had. The pakora portion comprised of 5 pieces which I felt was small. Had it been explained I would have ordered more, indeed I asked for a large portion but this could not be done. The 2 main dishes tasted almost identical one tandoori butter chicken and the other lamb masala. The overriding taste was of sugar with almost no spice. The Lamb is now in the bin. 2 Naan breads in cool packs had to be heated in microwave as they were not warm when opened. With a pint of Cobra at £56 including a 10% discount I felt this was really poor in terms of quality and cost I will not visit again.

Food was spicy. The dishes were also served lukewarm, which further diminished the dining experience. The price was quite high for the quantity and quality of food provided. I regret to say that I won't be returning to this place.

As a lone female with some special requirements, I don’t always get the level of service and attention I get when eating with a partner or as a group. However, I was deeply impressed with the kindness and helpfulness of the Light of Bengal staff. They were respectful of all requests, and attentive in a quiet way that let me get on with my meal in this lovely setting. And the meal was lovely! Following a very senior moment when I misordered, then couldn’t remember what I’d asked for, the young staff were quick to put the change through, professional (i.e. they didn’t laugh), and were very reassuring. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. Curry, rice, popadums, nan. And then some little touches that finished the experience with a smile. A warm towel for my fingers and a few slices of orange to refresh (which, sadly, I was not able to have, but I appreciated the thought) and a cute little “after curry mint” sweetie to finish. The price was very reasonable and the bill less than I expected. There were some issues with the ladies’ toilets, but these were pointed out at the time and I didn’t think it would be fair to knock a point off, but I hope they were as quick and efficient on that score as they were with everything else. I will, of course, go back to check.

Amazingly welcoming staff. They worked hard to ensure we could enjoy our meal and leave in time for a theatre visit. The menu was extensive and the vegetarian dishes were particularly excellent . . A warm and inviting environment. I shall definitely be back.

We visited the Light of Bengal for a Birthday Dinner and were certainly not disappointed by the food or the service. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful when ordering our chisen dishes and no one was disappointed. We have visited this place a number of times now and have never been disappointed.

Very disappointed with our latest Carry out. Very Expensive for what we got, Poppadom's were soft. Over £5.00 for 2 onion bhaji, 1 portion. Lamb dopiaza had no particular taste. Shame as have always rated this resteraunt.

Ordered through deliveroo order never came, was told to wait 72 hours for them to get hold of this establishment to get a refund to then be told by the restaurant manager they "delivered my order" when they absolutely DID NOT but apparently to these people it's acceptable to lie and take your £40 and not deliver your food leaving you, your friends and kids hungry...

Another great night at "LOB", took my team from around the world to taste the great food and all thoroughly enjoyed. The standard of service along with the atmosphere makes for a great night. The award for best Indian restaurant in Grampian is well deserved.

We all enjoyed our takeaway from Light of Bengal on Sunday. They were helpful when I phoned about a dairy intolerance. Rajastani Bhoona and aubergine bhaji amazing. My sister enjoyed the vegetable jaipuri.
