Jewel in the Crown in Aberdeen City

I don’t manage to get to this fantastic stalwart of the North East restaurant scene as often as I’d like due to work commitments but gosh , it never ever disappoints . My friend and I were once again welcomed by the outstanding Shabbi , Imran and their team and served to a plethora of the very best Indian cuisine available in Scotland and .. I travel a lot !! It was full on a Wednesday night !! Book to avoid disappointment but , we’ll be back VERY soon - brilliant .

Fantastic meal. Delicious curry, superb service, lovely atmosphere. Wish we lived in Aberdeen, we'd be back here all the time! Will definitely return when we're in town!

This restaurant was recommended to one of my friends work colleagues and it didn't disappoint, the food was excellent and the service was very good also. Next time we are in Aberdeen we will certainly be re visiting the Jewel in the crown.

Had lovely meal. My first time at this restaurant, it won't be my last. Even if have to just go up for the weekend. Fantastic meal, fantastic service and so friendly.

Visited with friends after attending a festival nearby. With no notice, they managed to get us a table for 5 on a Saturday night. The food was spot on, not greasy or oily at all. Service was great as well, with the final bill being very reasonable. It’s been a while since I visited but this visit reminded me that if ever back in Aberdeen and wanting curry, this is the place to go.

Nice decor and service but the food was at best something you would get from a poor take-away . Curries were tasteless. Starters felt like they were from Farmfoods. Very disappointing.

I ordered two chicken biryanis for takeaway today and was thoroughly impressed. The taste was exceptional, and the portions were generous. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, and the ambiance within the restaurant is outstanding. Additionally, the establishment offers private parking, and they are happy to adjust the spice level according to customer preferences. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We have dined here each time we visit Aberdeen over a period of 12 years+. Every single time, it has been fabulous. It's the best Indian cuisine we have eaten with the addition of friendly efficient service. We travel 2.5 hours to dine, as we did yesterday. My personal favourite is Kalia Lamb. The restaurant is also very clean which is a must for us. Highly recommended 👌

A fantastic Indian restaurant in Aberdeen. We were well looked after from the moment we set foot in the door. Excellent service, delicious food, and reasonable prices. We tried different dishes and all tasted very good. And the nan bread they served was some of the best I've tasted. Especially appreciated the warm cloths to wash hands after the meal. I would like to come here again.

We had an amazing dining experience at a restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and delectable food. We enjoyed a custom-made paneer curry that was incredibly delicious, and the accompanying side dishes were equally delightful. 😋 The paratha and roti were particularly remarkable.😋 The staff members were exceptionally friendly, and the service was excellent. It's the little details that truly make a difference.🙂 Recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates Indian or Asian cuisine. 😀

Wow! The best Indian food I have ever had, including in India. Tasty, generous. Loved all the extra touches like starters, sweets, warm cloth to clean hands. Very friendly staff, and efficient!!!

We had heard how good the service was here and finally got around to trying it out for ourselves. The service was so quick and efficient without feeling rushed or uncared for and all of it with a genuine smile too. Not to mention how amazing the food itself was which is a whole other conversation! Without a doubt one of the most pleasant restaurant experiences of our lives.

Best Indian takeaway I’ve had - light - fragrant- full of vibrant flavour not greasy or stodgy superb

This was my first visit to Light of Bengal in a very long time, and I was not disappointed. I got the mixed meat starter, and although a little small in size, it tasted delicious. My other half had the samosa and said it tasted lovely as well. I proceeded with the lamb Naga and washed down with a couple of cold Kingfishers. I will return as the menu was extensive, with other dishes I want to try.

We came here by accident, because it was close to the accommodation and the reviews were good. The food here is good, but also very ordinary, the flavors are nothing special, although there are many items on the menu. The food was fresh, served on warm plates. The service was very nice, the place was surprisingly very crowded, so much so that we doubted the quality of the pubs nearby if so many people came here for an ordinary pub and gave high marks. An interesting fact is that at the end of the meal you are given an orange to suck on and hot towels to wipe your hands with steam still coming out of them.

Everything was very good, I wish the chicken pakoras had a little more flavour but overall one of the best places I’ve tried for curries.

Great restaurant with a good knowledge of gluten free. They make authentic pakoras with gram flour, meaning they are gluten free. Perfect for those that are gluten intolerant or coeliac. Great starters, curries and poppadoms. Lovely touches and a great service and experience. They were really busy with takeaways so we did wait a little for our starters. Amazing selection of gins. Really pleased we decided to go there.

I was hungry so decided to visit my local curry restaurant quite late at about 21:50 in the middle of the week ( Wednesday it was ). When I entered the premises the manager told me they were about to close, but they cannot send me away hungry so they accommodated me anyway. Lovely curry, nice wine, and amazing hospitality and customer service.

Excellent Indian restaurant. I had the Naga Lamb, which was delightfully fruity and had a nice kick. Bread was fresh out the Tandoor, lovely , soft, fluffy and delicious. Will defo be back and recommend.

Food was very good. It's really worth the money spent. We were family of ten and were greeted and warm welcome by the staff. They do give pappadams when you just sit on the table. At the end they gave orange slices which was my favourite. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is in Aberdeen. Defo go.

Very nice food, spicy and made very well. The only problem was the noise, we were in the basement floor and had a big group on the other two tables. It was extremely noisy and we couldn’t talk together. Also quite warm, the air was just still and with 40 people on the basement it got unbearably warm.

Went as part of the local restaurant week on a Sunday sfternoon and the place was packed , food was fantastic and service was superb and a £10 for 2 courses of great food , I had the pakoras followed by the Chicken tikka masala , will definitely be back for a full meal

It is not often that I find a restaurant that I can give a 10 to, but this place is the exception. In general we have found UK restaurants to be overpriced. These guys weren’t cheap, but they were certainly value for money. Food, again exceptional. Won’t go through our list, but I could not fault the quality or the volumes. Service again, exemplary. Well dressed, polite and nothing seemed to much trouble. We were privileged to meet dad, who, whilst being the head chef, was also a thorough gentleman and I took this opportunity to thank him and his team for their efforts

Really friendly, inviting service. The staff were very welcoming to my son, my friend, and I. The food is pretty good, but the downstairs room is somewhat dull of a space. All the same, really enjoyed our dinner here!

Delicious food, great atmosphere, and amazing service. Hors d'oeuvres, poppadoms, mixed starters, then a huge, truly delicious naan! Lamb, yoghurt and mint was very nice too. A true 💎 gem with a befitting name for a restaurant. Tables were beautifully set with white crisp table cloths and napkins/serviettes. We were warmly greeted by a staff member and promptly served with fresh gigantic poppadoms and chutney. The food was served piping hot, full of flavours and a good mix of spices. The serving crew who attended to us were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. We will definitely return and also recommend this restaurant. I rated the ambience/atmosphere 4 stars because I thought that the lighting could’ve been better. One gesture we truly appreciated was that they provided reading glasses for their customers for their convenience. To summarise we appreciated their genuine interest in their patrons. Thank you for making our long day a treasured one.

Delivery was top notch. And nice food, delivered early.

Enjoyed a fabulous meal here, with my family, mid last week. Each meal that we ordered was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. We eat out quite a lot, and sometimes our taste buds feel jaded. But not on this occassion. It was a wonderful dinner experience. Highly recommend.

One of the best restaurants we've ever been to. Very friendly staff, excellent atmosphere, fast service, reasonable prices and incredible food. Seated almost immediately and then we were welcomed by a delicious starter. Didn't have to wait long for the main meal either which was of very high quality. The waiter was very helpful when sharing his professional opinion on the meals, and helped give recommendations. When we were finished with our meals, we were given oranges, chocolates and freshly steamed towels. Pricing was adequate. Thank you very much. We will certainly be coming back.

We had a lovely time here for a work night out. The food was great and the service was very good. I would recommend this restaurant again. There was fresh chillis in my chicken madras which is really good and a sign of high quality. Some restaurants just use chilli powder. Great job!

I had the chicken biryani which was okay, but not cheap at just over £17. The nan bread was great! 2 bottles of sparking mineral water cost over £11. Service was efficient and friendly.

From the service to the tasty food, wow this place was a treat ! The wait staff was so kind & accommodating for our vegan needs. We even got steamed towels at the end and some oranges for dessert. Thank you so much for making an incredible experience for dinner. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who wants some delicious food, kind service, and an inviting atmosphere. A bonus was it was someone’s birthday and they were so sweet and sang happy birthday and had a cake. It made the place feel extra warm.

We had the vegetable biryani as a takeaway. Phoned ahead, 40 minute wait before collection but wow! so worth the wait. Fantastic flavour, quality ingredients. No wonder it's so busy!

We are only here for a few nights in Aberdeen and we’ve chosen to come here two nights in a row. We enjoyed it so much the first night that we came back the next night and it was even more enjoyable. Great food and excellent staff and an awesome atmosphere.

Recommend the lamp chop starter . Butter chicken is good. They also do espresso martinis now
