Light Of Bengal in Winchester

We booked to eat here on Saturday night. We arrived slightly early however, the staff were very welcoming. The service was exceptional, friendly and quick. The plates came out nice and hot, the food tasted amazing, I cannot fault it at all. The pricing was normal, with a 10% service charge added on. Very good and worth it. A lovely atmosphere with happy, chatty, smiling staff. The restaurant had a great ambience and was very clean. We stayed at The Winchester Hotel & Spa, this restaurant is great and within walking distance (5mins) from the hotel. We can't wait to return again soon for some more tasty food and drinks. Last minute decision to go for a curry…. Was at the top end of town and read the reviews….. Great service - though I was here Monday evening at 5.30! Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. I ordered the bengal shank, what an amazing dish! With just a fork, all the meat fell from the bone. A very nice sauce accompanied the dish complementing the lamb. Glad I skipped starter and didn’t order a naan as well 🤣 highly recommended!

Yet another superb meal served to us in The Light of Bengal last night, the best around by far. We’ve been coming here for years and the quality and flavour of the dishes is always top notch.

We were mightily impressed with our culinary experience at Light of Bengal (Winchester) The meal was lip smackingly good, the breath and depth of flavour was truly tantalising and we regard this establishment as a hidden gem. Roni, is "front of house" and he was very helpful and hospitable. He is worthy of a special mention because he was instrumental in making our dining experience unforgetable. We will return!

Got recommended by a friend who unintentionally popped in for a lunch the other day. Absolutely exceptional food. Ordered a few different dishes including a variety of bread selection. We regularly order takeaways from Light Of Bengal but we also visit to eat in from time to time. I’ve been with just my husband, as a family and in a larger group and it’s also always the meeting point when one of my friends returns from Spain to visit. The service is always great, as is the food, and it’s lovely that they recognise us now when we go in. That said, service is always great whether you are a regular or not. Highly recommend.

We've never had a really good Indian meal in Winchester, until now that is. Coming into Winchester along Andover Road, which is not our usual route we spied Light of Bengal and at the next opportunity thought we'd try a meal there. I have to say it was excellent and much better than any other Indian meal we've had in Winchester. Several reviews make reference to this being the best Indian in Winchester and I can't disagree. Great service, really accomodating to choices and most of all great food, well prepared and not flooded in oil. Naga was excellent! We'll be back.

We frequently visit Winchester and have visited several of the many restaurants there. However, we have been disappointed with the Indian meals we have had despite trying some very high-end establishments. We came upon the Light of Bengal by chance and it certainly deserves it's good reviews! First impressions - the lovely welcome upon arrival and the attentive and polite service throughout cannot be faulted. I ordered a dish off-menu and Ronnie (the manager) was very obliging and made sure we were happy with our meals. They also have a more comprehensive wine list than most (highly recommend the Grillo, goes well with spicy food). Most of the customers were regulars. It's quite a small, intimate restaurant, nothing pretentious or fancy. However, the food is good quality, nicely spiced and well presented. Definitely the best we have had in Winchester. We will be visiting more regularly and would recommend if you are visiting the area.

Stopped by on way home to pick up dinner, could not fault them, watched our food being prepared and cooked in their open kitchen, got it home and it was absolutely delicious, especially the Railway Lamb! Will definitely be returning!
