Light House Restaurant in Merton

Hemos estado yendo al Faro durante los últimos 25 años y estamos tan tristes de que vaya a cerrar. Reservamos para su última semana de servicio y el restaurante estaba pesado. El menú innovador muestra platos británicos y europeos y nuestra comida de 3 platos fue como siempre muy bien presentado y delicioso. El servicio fue excelente y el personal, incluido el chef, estaba charlando con los clientes con un tinte de tristeza por el cierre. ¡Incluso vimos a una dama irse llorando! Es una pena perder un restaurante independiente de calidad cuando Wimbledon está tan sobresaturado de restaurantes y cadenas de baja calidad. Gracias a todo el personal por algunas comidas maravillosas a lo largo de los años, deseándole todo lo mejor para el futuro.

I am devastated that this marvellous restaurant is closing down after 25 fabulous years. Lighthouse- we will miss you!

Fantastic meal here for a special Birthday celebration. The food was delicious & the service and atmosphere exceptional.

Frankly not sure how to say but it’s just the best restaurant in Wimbledon I think! We had lunch there today and every dish was beyond our expectations! The lamb rump is the BEST lamb I have ever had! I almost want to hug the chef who cooked it. It’s just so good! Such a shame to know it’s going to close soon. If you can go before they close, hurry!

This was our first visit to the light house and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The menu was interesting and varied and the food we chose was delicious. The restaurant was almost full with a buzzy atmosphere but the service remained good with several people looking after us. I had some reservations about booking as I had read beforehand the restaurant would be closing in February which is a great shame, but I needn’t have worried, you’d never have known. Good luck for the future for everyone working there.

Sadly this long time staple - one of the few no -chain restaurants in Wimbledon - is closing for good on 16th February. If you know it then go one last time and if you don't then at least see it off in style by making sure it's last few days are as busy as possible.

El servicio fue deficiente. . . No lo tenía reservado en el libro; totalmente desinteresado en hacer que nuestra experiencia fuera tonta; se inclinó a mi lado un par de veces; mucho sarcasmo que no era apropiado. Y para colmo me puse muy enfermo después de tener confites de pato - creo que había sido recalentado.

The Light House is my favourite restaurant in Wimbledon Village either for a special occasion or for lunch or dinner with friends - the food is excellent but also really good value.

Mi marido y yo cenamos aquí el sábado por la noche para mi cumpleaños y fue absolutamente fantástico. La comida era excelente y el servicio era brillante. Personal amable y encantador que realmente nos hizo sentir como en casa Absolutamente aturdido al escuchar que este increíble lugar cerrará en febrero. Gracias por su brillante servicio y desearle todo lo mejor para el futuro ❤️

This was what we thought was our final visit to this wonderful place and we were so sad that it is closing that we rebooked straightaway when we found we've got another month! Thank you Hugo and team for yet another excellent evening of delicious food in a such a friendly atmosphere.

The Light House is always reliable but our last visit was exceptional. They have really upped their game - all 4 of us had different dishes at each course and all were superb. I can especially recommend the guinea fowl and a light but delicious apple and mince frangipane tart

20 for lunch. With that sort of number to cater for is never easy. The staff were great and made the whole event a super afternoon/evening as was the food. Thank you.

Enjoyed the reasonable value but very limited lunch menu. Just 2 choices for each course. Had to choose between calfs liver and hake for main course, neither of which I would normally choose, but the hake with buttered jersey potatoes and samphire was simply delicious. I had the salad starter, also delicious and the whole meal fairly low carb, well balanced and nutritious. I felt good about myself after this lunch. The head chef came out to meet the diners and our waitress was delightful. I am definitely coming back.

I really don't know why people visit the Ivy, when The Light House exists. Great food with an interesting menu, good wine list, and good service.

Great place for lunch and small gatherings

El Faro ha perdido parte de su atractivo. El menú y la comida en sí sigue siendo bueno, sin embargo, el ambiente se está cansando y el servicio no es de ninguna manera brillante, con el sentido de que nadie parece estar a cargo.

Inspite of the rain a warm smile awaited us at the Lighthouse. There are a selection of round, oblong and Square tables in this bustling restaurant. The menu caters for all tastes and the waitress was knowledgable on all the dishes. A tea candle was lit and our evening commenced. My partner chose the ham hock & veg broth and I had the salad of feta, beetroot, apple, fig salad vinaigrette. Both a good size and tasty. My companion chose chicken with veg and chips and I had the steamed hake . I chose some greens as a side to share. Both plates came within a reasonable time and were beautifully cooked . My rice pudding with warm plum jam was devine! There is a pleasant level of chatter but it's not intrusive . The cost reflects the quality of the food and service. We have been eating here for many years and have never been disappointed.

I had a dinner which I enjoyed.

Really friendly staff who were attentive throughout our meal. Our food tasted delicious . Only comment is that the plates could have been better presented. There was quite a lot of food on the plate and it lacked a bit of eye appeal. Otherwise a very enjoyable mid week meal!

A thoroughly enjoyable private lunch, filling the Light House, with impeccable set ice by the staff and great food - certainly one of the most delicious (and filling!) roast beef main courses of my life.

We received a very warm welcome from friendly and helpful staff at the Light House on a busy Saturday evening. The menu was interesting and the food generally well prepared. Service was excellent and comfortably unhurried, which is becoming unusual in many restaurants. The wine list had a good selection at a range of prices to suit most pockets. Definitely a restaurant to be recommended.

It was a delicious meal but unfortunately there was a rank damp smell around where we were sitting. We mentioned it to the waitress and she agreed but didn’t offer anymore info 🤔

I came here to enjoy the Thursday steak night and was greeted by Mya. She provided amazing service thought. The steak was amazing, so compliments to the chefs! Highly recommend. Will be retuning

Great service and great location. The waiting team were fantastic and went over and above to look after us. The chef was moaning and complaining at the front of house which wasn’t great and the mood of the chef was reflected in the food.l which was over overcooked and salty!

I have dined at the Lighthouse for several years and the quality of the food, service and atmosphere is always excellent. I went today and it was, as always, first class. The crab cake was the best I’ve ever tasted, the lamb chops were perfect and the vanilla fudge was out of this world. The food here is the best you could have anywhere in my opinion. Looking forward to my next visit.

Astoundingly good food, great value. We had crab cakes and beef and almond koftas to start, followed by lamb chops and chicken breast with an Indian sauce. We finished with coffee and truffles. The portions were really generous too. A really great experience.

I have been to the Light House many times and it never disappoints the food has always been excellent and menu is constantly changed. The service is alway superb. I would always recommend this restaurant

Came for Father’s Day. Excellent food (crab tart and beef roast), wine and service. Waitresses very good with the kids. Had a great time.

We visited The Lighthouse restaurant in Wimbledon for an early dinner with Set menu option. The decor of the restaurant is simple with peaceful setting. The food was delicious, well decorated and tasty. The wine list here is exhaustive with excellent selections available.

Love this restaurant. Always interesting food. Yes it’s slightly more expensive but the quality is worth it. Great wine list. They also do Jazz evenings which are fun.

We booked last minute and were lucky to find a table available. The staff was very friendly and the food was great. Highly recommended for a date night.

All the dishes were exquisitely flavourful, I’ve never tasted a better prepared lamb dish. It is more on the expensive side, but I’d still highly recommend nonetheless.

We have been here a couple of times recently and the food is really good, always fres, nice portions and excellent service. There is one particular waitress who is so friendly and smiley and always great to recommend choices that makes the evening.

Still the best place to eat in Wimbledon. It may be slightly out of the village but worth the short walk . Food is always good and service excellent

Great Easter Sunday Lunch, varied and good value set menu with around six options for each course. The five of us had no difficulty choosing delicious options for each course and plenty of wines by the glass to satisfy most tastes. Simple but expertly and consistently executed dishes. Not cutting edge in terms of ingredients or techniques but none the worse for that and all in all we had an extremely enjoyable meal and experience.

As per usual - really tasty food - well cooked - well presented with friendly service 👍👍👍

I came in here joyful at the fact there was fresh spaghetti, i ordered this and waited approximately 45 minutes for my food. To my disappointment i was served with noodles. Similar to pot noodles. I never knew fresh spaghetti translated to noodles. I could have got this meal at tesco for £2.50, instead i paid around £15. It wasn’t even tomato sauce. The beef was also very fatty. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this place if you want ‘fresh’ spaghetti. In fairness they adjusted the price for compensation. The bare minimum they could.

My wife and I like to go here the rare times that we have baby sitters. Food and service has so far been good the few times we have been. For us, the prices are special occasion prices, not, can't be bothered cooking prices, but definitely a good choice for date night.

Went for sunday roast ,im a chef myself so i can be a bit critical...this place is superb,there roast lamb and roast beef were exquisite,the horseradish sauce was truly exceptional...the chef,commander chris,class act...go here,youll not be dissapointed...

Booked this on a Monday night early evening slot, a nice restaurant well set out with plenty of seats. It was quiet we were met with a smile and the service was good. The food was lovely and more importantly hot when it came out. I had the monkfish which was very tasty. A bit pricy i thought so be prepared for that. Overall a decent experience.

Lighthouse is the precious gem of Wimbledon’s village. With an always creative and cosy menu, there is no way to have an amazing meal and good time with family! Staff is always friendly and welcoming. The open kitchen allows you appreciate the chef’s passion for his food! Every time I visit the restaurant, it is a 100pc delicious experience from starters to desserts. This is one of my favourite restaurant in London! Well done!

Went on a Saturday evening for my daughter's 30th birthday celebration. Party of 6. They had personalised the menu which was lovely. The food was very good, service excellent, no rushing, all in all a great evening.

Had an absolutely wonderful lunch. Ever been here before and am so glad we now have. The food was excellent, service was relaxed, efficient and friendly. Great value for money, highly recommended and we’ll definitely be back again very soon.

I've lived in Wimbledon for a long time, and always felt a bit ambivalent about the lighthouse. I hadn't been for at least a few years, maybe since before the pandemic but went today, prompted by my partner, for our anniversary. And do you know what? It was fabulous. I think my biggest issue had always been that the menu was "safe". But today, it was all big flavours, interesting ingredients and great service. In short, everything you want out of a local restaurant. Definitely recommended. I'd not been very excited by the Light Cafe getting a make-over. Now I can't wait to try it.

Excellent place for an unexpected breakfast. The field mushrooms on toast were so good I came back the next week and got them again.

We've been eating at the Light House irregularly for almost 20 years but hadn't visited since lockdown until last Friday night. Tempted in by the offer of a £35 three-course menu, which proved to be extremely good value. Four of us ate well from a menu that offered a choice of four dishes per course, with very generous portions and top-notch cooking. I had expected pretty much a set menu with minimal choice, so this was a v pleasing outcome. Staff and service were excellent. Ambiance feels less 'high-end' than it used to, but for a well-priced, non-chain restaurant, I would certainly recommend Light House for a mid-range evening out.

A local restaurant serving modern European cuisine. The staff are friendly, the food was decent but unimaginative. Menu was reasonably diverse. All in all a decent place to go for a meal but not a destination restaurant. P.s. The Pannal cotta was great!

A big party of us ate here 1/6/23, I had the ham hock for my starter, it was really good although too salty. Main course I had sea bass again it was really good, lovely crispy skin. Only complaint was there were way too many long green veg not sure what they were. Desert was cheese cake and a caramel sauce absolutely no complaints it was so good! Service was really good and the meal was good value for money.
