I was in Scarborough today and had looked at Google reviews for the best fish and chips away from the main promenade. Lifeboat Fish Bar did not disappoint! I got the lunch special of small fish and chips to takeaway. One of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The fish was very tasty and moist and the food wasn’t greasy at all. The portion size was more than enough and definitely good value for money. It was very busy due to it being mother’s day and a sunny day, but despite this, I just had to wait 10mins or so for my order, which was absolutely fine.

Just had the very best fish and chips I have ever had. Staying a few miles outside Scarborough googled to find one with great reviews. Found the lifeboat fish bar. Sounded really good got there and the queue was outside the door. Please don't let this put you off it's only a small shop. Service was quick and superb. Everything was cooked fresh. Cod and chips and Haddock and chips mussy peas and scrap !!! for us from down south batter bits. The Haddock was enormous I like my grub but it beat me. Can't rate the Lifeboat highly enough just wished I was local this would be my chippy tea of choice. Thanks again to the wonderful staff

Once you have had fish and chips here you will not want to go anywhere else! Food and the service from the polite and very efficient waiting staff is excellent. It is only a small dining area and you may have to wait for a table but it will be worth it.

Had the "small" haddock and chips takeaway for just under £7. Wasn't what I'd call small, so very happy with the value. Batter was very tasty, chips were fantastic . Servers were very friendly and organised. No complains from me

Probably less famous than the big F&C places on the seafront, but I'd always recommend a small chippy that all the locals seem to want to go to over the giant restaurants for the tourists. Batter was maybe a tiiiny bit on the thick side, but none the worse for that, and the fish was juicy and meaty and the chips were great. Everything you want from a chippy.

Visit every time we visit Scarborough, best fish and chips around. We were lucky enough to get in the cafe today, the service from the girls was first class and the food to die for. Can't wait for our next visit.

Visited with my daughter and friends as we wanted to try somewhere different than our usual fish & chip restaurant. Really pleased we did as this was excellent. The waitress’ were very friendly, service was quick given how busy they were and the food was very good. Honestly couldn’t fault it. We had the cod, haddock, curry sauce, mushy peas and chicken nuggets for our meals and all were delicious.

Best fish and chips in England. Unrivalled. The staff were incredibly friendly and the scampies in particular really made my day! Everything was just served at the right amount - not too greasy, bland or crusty. If you are travelling through Whitby I really recommend making a trip here to Scaborough and check out this amazing fish and chips place! Definitely going back for more.

Beautiful haddock and chips taken outside as the inside seating was full. The lady in the shop however couldn’t have been more accommodating as she offered to get us from a local pub when a table became available, what service thank you they were delicious

This IS the best chippy in Scarborough - no ifs , no butt's . You can sit in -but you need to book as there's not many tables. But there's plenty of seating by the harbour-and the gulls don't attack you on sight thankfully.

Went on new year day and they did a steamed fish for my dog. We as humans had fish and chips and they were fantastic, fresh crumbly fish not greasy batter or chips. Best chippy !!

We visited on a Friday evening and ate in. The service was excellent and having the option for steamed haddock/cod was very impressive. Both staff members were very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and we look forward to coming back.

These are the best fish and chips by far, I have not had better anywhere in Britain. Fact. Well done lifeboat. I've just been in again 27th Sept 2024 about 12.30pm. This time sat down in the seated cafe. I ordered my usual, and, well you guessed it, superb. Do not go anywhere else in Scarborough or you will be disappointed.

This IS the BEST fish and chip takeaway and cafe in Scarborough. The only very slight criticism was that the tartar sauce wasn’t tasty and some of the chips were very small. Other than that the cod was excellent and overall flavour of the meal was superb.

Called in today with my wife and granddaughter for dinner we had to wait for 10 min for a table but it was worth the wait. We were served by 2 lovely young ladies, the food came out quickly and was excellent...the only thing I could say is the chip portion sizes are large, I think smaller portions and if you want a few more that should be a better option ...I'm sure it would reduce waste for the restaurant.

The portion attached was £12.20 and happy with that.

Service was impeccable and all the team seemed happy, were smiling and well looked after in their roles. Food was great and very reasonable too, cooked fresh for each order, which means it takes a few more minutes than a larger place that will have items sat around waiting to be sold - I’d much rather wait and have fresh just for me items. Could not fault the place.

Went in here on a recommendation and really wasn’t disappointed. From the young ladies that were serving to the food, everything was superb. Your food won’t be served fast and the signs tell you that it is, “cooked to order”, so if you are in a hurry it isn’t for you but its the best we had in the area, thanks guys 💙

This fish bar was recommended to me by a couple of friends. I travelled from near saltburn to check this place out. Situated at bottom of bank on way to scarborough sea front opposite joke shop. I have visited on numerous occasions & it never fails to impress. Chunky flakes of white cod & chips cooked to perfection. I always call back & thank the gentleman for an enjoyable fish lunch. Today a young lady was fryer as per normal i called back to thank her. Were they as good as my dads she asked? I replied they were on par which is some accolade. I then offered to post a review. Fish & chips are £10:20 & are value for money. Add tomato sauce & tub of peas & its £12:60 all in & i was stuffed 😋😋 you can take away or eat in (reservation to eat in recommended) as its very busy. It opens at 12pm & im stood waiting outside at 11:40am. Very friendly staff & very clean environment. Boasting a 5 star in hygine. These are by far the best fish & chips in scarborough & i award them the highest of recomendations. Thank you for my lunch today & i will see you next time im in town

A chip is a chip is a chip, right? No it bloody well isn't! Definitely the BEST chips I've ever tasted from a fish & chip takeaway, and quite possibly the best batter mix too. It's one of those things where you say "How can these deep fried chips be any better than those?" Then you eat them and see for yourself. The haddock I had was delicious too! Moist, full of flavour and cooked perfectly. To top it off, the fish is a properly good size (not like the pittance you get at Winking Willy's down the road) and the staff are just unreal. Even on the takeaway counter, you're dealt with such respect and friendliness you wonder why everyone can't be asked to treat their customers in that fashion.

We had tried unsuccessfully in recent years to get a takeaway from this highly regarded fish and chip shop. Every time, it was closed. Earlier today at lunchtime - SUCCESS. We queued for 15 mins, as they were busy. Always a good sign. Frankly, we were blown away by just how good the Lifeboat Fish Bar was and it fully justified its hard won reputation as the best Fish and Chips shop in Scarbados. My wife had the small haddock and chips special for £6.95, I had a regular haddock and small chips. We shared a carton of mushy peas and curry sauce between us. I know eating is subjective, but let me just say this. The batter - divine, crispy and not greasy. The fish - fresh, flakey and tasty The chips - crunchy and fluffy The peas - perfect and seasoned The curry sauce - perfectly spicy and tasty Overall faultless. Allied to the brilliant service with a smile and decent value for money, this place is richly deserving of its reputation. Among the Top 5 best fish and chips I've had in my entire life and I'm now in my 70s. That's going some given the fantastic fish and chips I've been able to eat over the years and growing up in Yorkshire.

By far the best fish and chips I’ve had. Not greasy at all, no aftertaste (like you usually get an hour later) and phenomenal quality served with a smile. They were queuing on the street for them and I can understand why. The lady who served me was extremely busy but very pleasant and polite with a smile and seemed to be in charge and all the young staff were working very hard as a team. I cannot recommend highly enough, thank you guys 👍

We,ve been coming here for last 20yrs when on holiday. Absolutely delicious fish and chips etc. Service very good and friendly. Glad we reserved a table this time as very busy from it opening as a takeaway also. It has 4 tables for 4 people and 2 tables for 2 people where one can be for 3 people. We are also going to The Trawl in Bridlington which is ran by a relation.

The best fish and chip shop in Scarborough! We saw a long queue yesterday and thought we’d give it a try and we are so glad we did. The service was quick and the staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had cod & chips and haddock & chips both with beans. Both were really good, the fish was light and the chips weren’t greasy at all. We will definitely go back! It was also great to see a young lad (possibly a family member) helping out, making sure stock was maintained and he never stopped. Well done to that young man!

Oh my goodness. We’ve just come back from a few nights away in Scarborough and stumbled across this little gem. What AMAZING fish and chips, we’ve never had anything like it! The chips were so crispy (maybe double/triple cooked?) and tasted incredible, and the crispy batter on the fish and scraps were just SO YUMMY! Flaky fish and just mouth watering, the lot of it! Super busy which is always a great sign. We ignored the guilt for over indulging and visited twice during our stay. If we were locals it would be dangerous, put it that way as it’d be a weekly treat and wouldn’t be able to stay away! Well done guys, thanks for an amazing holiday treat.

Simply the best fish and chips I've ever tasted! We've been going to Scarborough for years but never eaten on the seafront before. Decided to Google fish and chip restaurants and the reviews for Lifeboat were so good we decided to give it a try. With 5 of us we decided to call in early and book a table... They had the table ready for us bang on time but immediately told us that there would be a bit of a wait due to them being so busy. The wait wasn't long at all and a nice pot of tea kept us going anyway. I had the Haddock and everyone else had Cod or Scampi. We all agreed that we've never tasted better fish and chips anywhere. Omg... 😍 Toss up between a roast dinner or Fish & Chips. The latter it was. Lifeboat Chippy Scarborough, out of this world. Worth the queue and wait, staff fantastic, looks like chaos behind the counter, but trust me they know exactly what they're doing. We had haddock & Cod with Chips, curry, gravy, peas & 2 bread rolls. Wow.. I have to put this Chippy on a Parr with our favourite chippy the Dolphin in Southport. Thanks Lifeboat Chippy 🙌🏻 🙌🏻 🙌🏻... No wonder this place is a 5 star Chippy.

Stumbled across this place by accident. Walked in and noticed the frier was double cooking his chips, something i'm amazed doesn't happen at all chip shops, though the first time i've seen this in England. Hence chips were as good as you'll get, and the chunky piece of cod was fresh and a perfectly cooked.

What a way to show them British cuisine! 👍 Lovely, white fish, fried to perfection, juicy chips, not dry at all. Everything reasonably priced and great portion sizes.
