I rarely leave reviews, and I genuinely feel bad about leaving this one, especially as it’s a small business. However, a group of us chose this restaurant today based on it being dog friendly and because it has great reviews on Google and TripAdvisor. However, we all felt that the food was “incomplete” and overpriced, representing quite poor value for money. £34 for two crab sandwiches, one tea, and one coffee. The crab sandwiches were just that: crab, sliced bread, butter…with a small pot of basic crisps. At £14, maybe a small side salad, even as garnish, would’ve been the norm anywhere else, or perhaps a bit of coleslaw or seafood sauce. I wish I’d taken a photo, because whilst the crab was nice enough (despite a couple of bits of shell being found in two of our crab fillings) they really didn’t look anything like a £14 sandwich. There were six of us in the group, and everyone felt the same way about their food. We all wished we’d simply bought a pasty from one of the bakeries in town. Maybe we just chose the wrong menu item, because looking at the reviews, most people really seem to like this place.

We came back to this Cafe as it was amazing the first time round two years ago, a very friendly lady ran the place and everything was just magical. We sat down with and once we had peeled our hands off the greasy surface we then ordered food and a coffee. The lady did not know what a double expresso was when the drinks turned up it was like a blind person had prepared them! The man behind the counter preparing the food is very over opinionated and will shout his mouth off being rude to people who come in and and leave if they find it not to their liking. He will go on about how people should use cash instead of card as it costs him money. The food was poor and the coffee was awful. please bring back the old owners and keep your opinions to yourself.

Friendly little place. The food is good, as on a great full English at decent prices. Eclectic interior feels warm and inviting. The owner can be direct but he’s 1000mph in the kitchen and has a great sense of humour. We saw this little cafe whilst walking into Fowey and decided that we would stop for a drink and a little something to eat as it was dog friendly. On entering we asked whether it was ok to bring the dogs in and were assured that it was ok. As soon as we walked in, the lady working there started to accuse us of being the couple from Launceston whose dog bit her. We assured her that we weren’t from Launceston ( and we have never even been there) and that we had never been to the cafe before but she kept going on about it and insisting that it was our dog. We have a very nervous dog who barks a lot and so we sat in the corner away from everyone and also muzzled him to be on the safe side. Every time someone entered the cafe she made a big deal that we had dogs in the corner. We were made to feel unwelcome the entire time we were there. We love Fowey and have eaten and drank in establishments where we have always been made to feel welcome. We won’t be returning to this establishment.

We stopped for a delicious cup of coffee and huge slice of the freshly baked cakes on offer twice during our four-night stay. I visited the cafe a couple of weeks ago whilst having a day out when I stayed with friends in North Cornwall. What a little gem this place is. The 40s/50s theme and colours were and memorabilia were such a change from the ultra modern. We enjoyed looking at a publication of old black and white images of some of the larger beaches. Taking me back to my youth and bringing a few memories of old family holidays of the 70's. The cafe is quite small and full, but this did not reflect on the level of service. We had a humus bagel and mackerel and chorizo bagel. My daughter and I shared so had the best of both worlds. Both were very good, but the mackerel was just right, the chili complementing the rich fish. Not too highly priced, all in all a lovely lunch and I can recommend it, In fact I have done this morning when a friend told me she was staying in Fowey for her holiday.

However we both ordered black coffees and two 'fat bouys'... nothing special at all, expensive for what it was! This cafe is a little gem. We stopped by for a quick lunch and had some really tasty filled bagels. I loved the smoked mackerel & chorizo, great combo. They have a varied menu - including fish finger butties - very tempting! And they make really good coffee - really good espresso and reasonably priced too. Having lived in Italy for the last 3 years, this was the base coffee I have found since being back in the UK. Very friendly too.

We always have breakfast here when visiting Fowey. The Fat Boy breakfast is delicious. The Cath Kidston style is very cute. My children loved all the old fashioned toys too, they happily play with. Service is quick and staff very friendly. The cafe is a hidden gem. Definitely worth a visit.

We stumbled upon this pretty little cafe in the middle of Fowey. With its shabby chic interior, colourful cushions on the windowseat, china teacups and oilcloth tablecloths we loved the atmosphere. The breakfast was delicious, fresh and grease-free with a generous mug of delicious filter coffee. Service with a smile made it all the better! We'll definitely try and re-visit when the summer finally arrives.

This cafe is somewhat unique nowadays, as it offers excellent customer service with a menu covering everything from fresh local crab sandwiches to 'die for' bacon 'butties', all ingredients are locally sources from the village butcher and bakery. 'Time distracters' general decor, photo albums, books and games etc were wonderful but unnecessary as the service was remarkably quick considering the diversity of the menu.

What a truly fab cafe! Lovely atmosphere and decor. Very cool menu, lots of 'tweeked dishes' that are more interesting than bog standard cafes. The kids menu they have down to a tea! Just what the little people want! The staff could not be more accommodating with our kids, one of which is tricky two year old! I only had a coffee, but this was delicious in itself! A great place to come and hang out with kids, couples or on your own, I love it and want to return now! very jealous of such a cracking little business, well done and don't change a thing!!

On our recent trip to Fowey we visited the Lifebuoy twice and both times we had a fantastic time playing with all the old fashioned toys and gazing at all the bits and bobs that catch your eye all round the cafe.

We ate a brilliant breakfast at the Lifebuoy Cafe today. The food was fresh, tasty and cooked to perfection. However the Ambience of this lovely little cafe is what rounded off a great experience into a superb one. The lovely nicnacs on the tables for children (and adults) to play with and the friendly and helpful cook/waitress made our experience complete! Will be back soon!!

6 of us piled in for breakfast last Saturday, choices ranged from toast to the legendary "fatbouy" big breakfast. Excellent food and coffee as always, quirky premises with great banter. Always a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of locals in - you know it is good when that happens. Good value for money too.

Have eaten in this cafe twice - breakfast and lunch. Both super. Very friendly team, eclectic style, delicious food and rink. Just too small.... but perhaps that is part of its charm? Like sitting in someone's living room?

Went during half term to Fowey for a bite to eat. Previously we have been to the Dwelling House which is absolutely fantastic but wanted to try somewhere different and this cafe had such good reviews that we had to try it.

Having eaten previously in some terrible pubs and cafes in Fowey I was delighted to discover the Lifebouy Cafe on a recent visit. We arrived after a long wet walk and were welcomed in - despite our less than clean boots.

I love Fowey - my sister lives in St Austell so we re regular visitors - hence I follow alot of Fowey folk on Twitter - one of them being The Lifebuoy Cafe. We finally visited them this weekend for breakfast - for 8 of us. Nothing was too much trouble - all the food was freshly cooked, was delicious and it was most definitely service with big smiles from the lovely ladies :-). We played Etch a skethc, looked through kaleidescopes, viewfinders and even played the Ukele whilst waiting. Lovely hot steaming coffee, fresh toast and a great breakfast! Now my sister and family have been -they vow to become regulars! CAn't wait for our next visit!

Absolutely wonderful visit. The cream tea was the best I think I’ve ever had. Warm scones, huge pot of cream and delicious jam, must be homemade. The tea was piping hot and came with an additional tea bag should you like it strong.
