They say simple is always best, and amidst these charactered tea rooms you have no fuss, people talking on mobike phones or computers. It is an experience of times gone by with lovingly made sandwiches and beautiful home made cakes in classic surroundings. What makes this establishment extra special is that it is a charity with all contributions going to help vulnerable people and all the staff are volunteers. Even your contribution attracts gift aid when you make an offer for your meal

We prefer to go to charity or right-on places and the staff here were welcoming and funny and our fish finger sarnies and coffee were good . You can pay what is suggested but pay more or donate for the times that are in it.

Was visiting my mum who lives in Hemel, and researched where we could go for coffee… this was an option, and mum hadn’t been, so we gave it a go. Must say that is was a delightful experience 😊. From the person who greeted us and explained how it worked to the volunteers who took orders and brought our order to the table. It was lovely - relaxed and charming inside… love the old bus seats as tables! Mum had a great time and has already told friends about it! I hope she will be a regular visitor - we will definitely back next time I’m in town. Well done to everyone who created such an inclusive and welcoming community space 🙌🏼🥰

Go and have a look - well worth it. Very interesting interior which is not evident from the outside. You might even find something you like to eat or drink.

We were in Hemel and saw an A-board advertising Liberty. After a quick scan of the menu on one of the outside tables, we decided to go inside for lunch. Very warm welcome and an explanation of how to order and that we were to pay what we felt the meal was worth, with a guide price being provided. I ordered at the counter: very friendly staff. Great food. Great to see the place being used as a community hub, including reference to the superb work of CAP. More than happy to pay more than the guide price.

Visited today for brunch with a friend, We had the croissants with ham and melted cheese. Wow, it was far more than we expected! Don't expect fast food service. As all the clocks on the wall suggest, take your time and enjoy. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

What a brilliant place! It’s a charity cafe run completely by volunteers, you pay via a goodwill ‘honesty box’ system based on what you can afford. All profits go to local charities / to provide homeless people with a bed for the night. It’s a brilliant idea and I was happy to donate to such a great cause. Lunch was delicious too, and all the volunteers really friendly. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

What a lovely place this is! We had a warm welcome from Audrey and all the staff were so friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxing and we loved the whole ethos of the place. Tea was served in bone china and our breakfast was delicious. Forget the coffee chains, we need more places like this!

Went for light lunch and really enjoyed ourselves. We recommend the croissant with ham and melted cheese, pot of tea lasted for ever with a free pot of hot water to top up. Everybody is welcome and I mean everyone, even if you can't pay, such an unusual business model that is so generous and inclusive. We will be back

Have walked past many times thinking must try this out. Finally got there today - it’s so lovely. Very welcoming and cosy. The cakes are homemade and would recommend the victoria sponge - perfect. Proper cups, saucers and tea cosies so no lukewarm last cup from the pot! The staff are volunteers and it gives the feel of a place they really want to be. Will be using this instead of the usual chains for that regular pick me up.

We were looking for somewhere in Flamstead where we could meet some friends before walking to Markyate and back. We spotted this coffee shop and were very pleased to have found it. It is obviously enjoyed by locals but we were also made very welcome. The various coffees we had were of excellent quality and flavour. The biscuits we had (including gluten-free for one of our party) were very good. The cakes looked delicious. The lady running it was very friendly. We'll be happy to return.

What a lovely place to come across after a day's walking! Good local cakes and excellent coffee. The friendliest staff I e come across for a long time. I noticed a previous review criticised the cafes bathroom. I have to say how refreshing it was to find a shop/cafe who allows the use of the facilities even to non customers.
