Always an absolute pleasure to visit Lewis and Clarke - some of the finest food in East Lothian for sure, and the friendliest welcome too! Great for brunch at the weekend, or to pick up some of their incredible patisserie to enjoy at home 👌🏻

first time here and we will be back. good coffee, nice selection of specials to go with the menu and great service. the cake selection was suffering from this cafe's popularity, especially as it was after 2 when we were there. the limited seating makes booking a definite recomendation.

Had the absolute pleasure of afternoon tea with a friend at this gorgeous cafe in Gifford. To say it was wonderful is a vast under-rating. The food, the setting, the staffing - all first class. The savoury selection was delicious and inventive. Who wants boring cold finger sandwiches when you can have a warm, buttery sausage roll or hot spicy cheese toasty or savoury shortbread with roast beef, or home-made flat bread with coronation chicken? Washed down with a mini-mug of hot celery soup. The scones were perfection, slightly crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside served with jam and clotted cream. Then onto the cakes/sweets. My goodness me. The mirror glaze on the chocolate-orange mousse-cake was so shiny we could see our faces in it. And the taste was divine! Matched only by the beautifully thin, crisp tempered white chocolate on the Gifford Golden nugget. Each item was a real treat for the eyes and the taste buds. Everything was washed down with as much tea, coffee and herbal tea that we could handle. As well as the incredible food, a special mention must go to the staff - so friendly and welcoming whilst also allowing us space and peace to enjoy our tea. My friend and I were there for 2.5 hours, savouring the food and chatting and generally having the most delightful time feeling relaxed and comfortable. Please, do yourselves a favour and make a booking! Easily 5 stars and then some. Will definitely go back.

Had what seemed to be a lovely young waiter, think his name was Tom it only seemed he was lovely until I spoke to him. He looked and acted very hungover and was just generally rude and horrible to me. not only was he rude but he also dribbled in my tea. I cannot condone this at all and i'm also embarrassed. Also I found a hair in my soup or dare I say a pube!

It's always a difficult choice when going to Lewis and Clarke's because there are always several dishes on the menu and specials board that are so delicious, and you feel that you want to try them all. Today, I had Turkish Eggs which were so tasty along with the excellent Station House Bakery sourdough bread, and the best flat white, by far, that I've ever had. The ladies are very friendly and knowledgeable, and the young waiter as courteous and efficient as ever. If we want to keep our local eateries, we must give them every support during these extremely challenging times when they are facing enormous difficulties. A fabulous place.

We visited last week and ordered a latte, orange juice and 2 toasties, (one cheese and chilli the other cheese and ham), what can I say? Some of the other cafes/restaurants should be coming to this establishment and taking notes. The bread was local sourdough, quality ingredients and a side salad, Staff so friendly, and dogs welcomed. We will definitely be back.

We were greeted with a warm, friendly welcome in this cosy cafe. Good coffee , tarte de nata ,and a chocolate pine cone with delicious filling. This set us up for a leisurely walk round the community woodland and this very picturesque village. The owner (I think) went to the trouble to go to the post office to pick up leaflets on the local and varied walks in the area for us!! We returned for lunch, tasty club sandwich and a hot smoked salmon bagel with locally made natural yoghurt which gave a far better texture and freshness to this dish than the usual cream cheese . Thank you again for the food and hospitality.

We've on a few occasions dropped into Lewis and Clarke for treats and coffee beans. During lockdown they had a fantastic takeaway menu - delicious! As a result, we decided to treat ourselves to a Lewis and Clarke afternoon tea (takeaway). Oh my we were not disappointed! So much yummy food displayed on a takeaway afternoon tea stand! We took it up the 'Muirs in our van and ate afternoon tea whilst enjoying the view out over East Lothian, Firth of Forth and over to Fife. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty. The sausage roll lovely, just the right size too! And well, the sweet treats are divine! Éclairs, chocolate orange dome, blackforest gateau, strawberries and cream dome and scones, with cream and jam! What an absolute feast!!!! Highly recommend! Oh and on a personal note, the owners are just lovely - they take pride in what they do and it shows in the quality of what they give you.

We were slightly disappointed by our visit to this cafe. I had heard good things about this place so it was unfortunate that it didn’t meet our expectations. Staff were very friendly and there was a good selection of food (both sweet and savoury) and drink to choose. I had a blooming marvellous tea (that was its name) and my wife got a hot chocolate, both of which were nice. We both got a pork pie and my wife got a chocolate mouse dessert and I got a pistachio and cardamom muffin. The pies were ok but we weren’t a massive fan of the gelatin inside. I’ve never had a pie with so much of it. I suppose that’s what happens when you have it cold. My muffin was felt stale and lacked flavour. My wife’s chocolate mouse thing was very tasty. Overall, it came to £26 which we felt was expensive. Perhaps we came at the wrong time or ordered the wrong things but we were sadly disappointed. The shop itself is really nice and you can buy bread and other household stables which is a nice touch. We bought a rye loaf which was really good.

What a find. We have afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday. Everything was lovely. A really interesting take on afternoon tea the savoury section had really tasty open sandwich, sausage rolls, not the usual sandwiches which was great. The sweet section was to die for delicious scones, mousse cakes, brownies. Just perfect. The staff was really friendly and very accommodating. Definitely will be returning

East Lothian's best kept secret. This is a tiny venue with a HUGE character. THe food is fresh, fabulous and made with love. We had a late lunch here on a Saturday - I had Eggs Benny which was light, fresh hollandaise sauce, perfect runny egg, with just the right amount of rocket on a piece of toasted sourdough. Faultless. My husband had a coronation chicken open sandwich with coleslaw which he said was delicious, and that's rare praise from him, he's usually fairly critical. We were unable to resist the patissieries - I had a white choclate heart with a raspberry filling - so light it felt like there were no calories, and so delicious I felt I deserved every one. My husband had the frangipane tart which looked fabulous, but I wasn't allowed to taste it as he wanted every mouthful. Absolutely lovely staff - full of the right sort of chat. Can't wait to go back!

We enjoyed an amazing lunch on Easter Friday, our first visit and definitely not our last. My husband declared the bacon French toast to be one of the top dishes he’d ever had. The toastie was tremendous too - not your average for sure. Well done to L&C for the whole concept, from decor to menu and sustainable products. We loved the ‘retro’ chairs, very comfortable and nostalgic.

This is everything a great cafe in a very small provincial town should be - popular with the locals and cyclists but special enough to make it a go to destination for folk who live a little further away. This weekend we had the smoked haddock chowder and the mushrooms with spinach and a (stunning) poached egg on sourdough with truffle oil. The food is home made on the premises, tastes fresh and uses local produce where possible, and it's food that just makes you want to lick the plate (even f someone is watching - because you know they would understand!). The cakes are delicious and the menu is restricted to a few (mostly light) dishes but you leave satisfied and with a smile on your face. As it should be. Prices are very fair and there is some limited table seating on the pavement as well as inside. What a joy to have this near where we live.

Wonderful find in Gifford East Lothian. Went for a drive on a Sunday afternoon and my wife had heard bout this place. Gifford is a bit out of the way but this ‘Artisan Kitchen’ is well worth the trip. Nicely decorated and friendly staff with a varied menu and a good variety of hot and cold drinks and fantastic cakes. Saw a family having ‘Afternoon Tea‘ and this looks great so think I’ll return soon for this as daughters birthday is coming up.Well done. So good to have excellent new starts in East Lothian

Just found this place and I will be back! The food is freshly made, I had the special of Kedgeree (smoked haddock and rice), a raspberry chocolate "piece of heaven" and a scrummy latte! The service is great (table service), friendly and nothing is too much bother. The portion size was very good. I certainly didn't leave hungry! I couldn't fit in a wild garlic and cheese scone but it's my excuse to go back....OH! They have free wi-fi, which was perfect as I managed to get some work done!

This place is usually fantastic. Great service, nice vibe and love the alternative offerings of fermented slaw etc. Lovely coffee. Popped in with husband for lunch and he had soup and I had the ploughmans salad. The taste was amazing but they were tiny portions. Only half a cup of soup and the ploughman’s was like a miniature starter - but delicious. We are maybe just greedy!

I've been a regular of L&C; Artisan since they opened in Gifford. We usually go along as a family and occasionally bring any well-behaved extended family too... Very comfortable little place with a very friendly atmosphere. The owners are passionate about using good local produce and this is evident in the quality of what is served. The food is simply outstanding. From patisserie to the best toastie this side of Mars and everything in between. The chef is nothing short of a magician. (My brunch favourite is smashed avocado on toasted sourdough with air-dried ham - photo attached). Excellent coffees and teas from eTeaket and Glenlyon, lots of local produce on the shelves to purchase to take away, as well as L&C;'s own yummies - I'm rather partial to their Rosemary and Sea Salt Crackers. I've yet to try their Afternoon Teas, but all reports I've heard are marvellous! I look forward to returning soon.

Great food, superb staff. Starters, so many to choose from. I plumped for the bees bau bun, my wife Haggis bon bons and marmalade sauce. Both were superb, the bau bun was soft, filled with superb, tender, tasty beef. The haggis with marmalade sauce was equally impressive. Mains... The wife had mussels, good sized portion and very tasty. I plumped for the burger. I love a good burger, but often the disappoint. Not here though. Really good burger, pickles, chips and a proper tasty coleslaw. No room for pudding. Beer was well kept and tasty. Thumbs up from the wife for the pornstar martinis. The staff were really friendly and made the night, as dis the epic 80s playlist. Well worth a visit.

Literally just got up and walked out after reading the menu prices. We were here last summer for lunch, had one of the best bowls of Cullen skink soup to date, came back specifically for that today as in the area, only to find that for one bowl of soup as a starter was £9.95 or for a large bowl of the same is now priced at £15.95! FOR A BOWL OF SOUP! I know it’s a tourist hotspot, but take off your Dick Turpin masks No 12!!
