Pleasant garden centre with a really good cafe where the food is freshly made. Today we enjoyed a ham & salad sandwich and an egg mayonnaise sandwich, both served with chunky chips (or salad) and homemade coleslaw. Outstanding! Plenty of seating inside with a separate dog-friendly section and further seating outside. Well worth a visit.

I had an occasion today to visit this garden centre to have breakfast with Father Christmas and we enjoyed a big boys breakfast with loads of tea, juice and plenty of toast. I wish I could express just how wonderful the staff were and so attentive and Father Christmas and his Elf were outstanding. It was all done so well that I would highly recommend a visit to Father Christmas this Christmas.

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend so thought we would visit to try out a breakfast, it was absolutely delicious, the wait time for it was about 20 minutes because everything is cooked fresh to order, there are notices around the restaurant to advise of this, all the food was piping hot my husband opted for the extra black pudding which he said was cooked perfectly to his liking. We will definitely be returning soon.

Enjoyed some nice fruit scones with jam, from a good range of cakes, along with 2 coffees. Service was a bit slow, but it was not too crowded there so it did not matter. The lunch menu looked good, but we were a bit early for that today. I’d certainly go again.

Visited recently and had a Fish and Chips special. Waited 20 minutes, but the food was served hot and freshly cooked. Priced at £9.99 it was a sizeable serving. The whole meal was tasty and well received. 5 Stars. As we were leaving early in the morning we decided to have breakfast here. Again a wait of 25 minutes in a virtually empty restaurant. My meal was OK although the Black Pudding was slightly cold. However my wife's black pudding, beans and mushrooms were all cold, perhaps being put up a while before mine. Food OK but needs to b served faster. Breakfast 3 Stars.

Absolutely appalled at the service we received. Our table of four all ordered food and hot drinks and was told that there would be a 40 minute wait. By the time we had all finished our drinks it had already been 45 minutes so we decided to ask how long the food would be, only to find out that the table behind us had been waiting nearly and hour for their food too.We were offered free drinks for the wait and decided to wait again, only to find out that the chef hadn’t even started with our tables food. By this point we had already waited an hour and fifteen minutes and was becoming really fed up. All of us had ordered the 8oz Gammon with fried egg. When the food finally reached our table the plates were stone cold and we were presented with a wafer-thin slab of bacon they call “Gammon”. All four of us were gobsmacked as everything was heaped on top of the steak and pretty much falling off the plate. After tucking into my food, I was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED to find that my gammon steak was RAW inside! Being a Chef myself, I was at least expecting my food to be thoroughly cooked after nearly AN HOUR AND TWENTY-FIVE MINUTE WAIT! In this time the server had already served a majority of the restaurant and dropped half the food coming out of the kitchen, not even to check if our table were okay with the long wait. No customer service whatsoever.I wouldn’t think twice about coming here again or to recommend it to anyone. Absolutely appalling to say we had paid nearly £50 for this experience.

First time we have had lunch since change of ownership. Food quite nice with good portion size. However don’t go if you are hoping for a generous pot of tea. Pot of Tea for two was a pot usually given for one person with a small pot of water. At Shades this would be a one person serving. Worse still it cost 20p short of £4.00. This was incredibly disappointing given hot water doesn’t cost a lot neither does 2 tea bags!

Myself, wife and adult son had lunch here today. Food and drinks ordered and paid for at the counter. Take your drinks to your table and wait for the food to be brought to you. The three of us had fish and chips which was reasonable. However the wait for it to be served was very long. Several other customers were complaining about the long wait for their food. Vacated tables were not being cleared. We sat next to a table with dirty plates on it when we arrived. An hour later and it was still not cleared. At the counter we asked for three coffees, The cups with coffee were provided but we had to ask for saucer. These were then fetched from the kitchen. All in all a very disappointing experience.

Came here with my mum and daughter for breakfast. There is a lot of choice to pick from and not too badly priced. Apart from the orange juice at £2.50 for 250mls and no cheaper alternative.Long wait to be served as the lady was on her own doing everything at the front counter.I ordered the big breakfast, which was fine. It would have been nice to have had toast with it, it wasn’t that generous a portion. The beans in the cup were a nice touch. My mum had the poached eggs with mushrooms and the eggs were awful, totally over cooked. If she had told me earlier I would have taken it back. Not just a little bit over, but you would have put them in an egg mayo sandwich they were that bad.The shop was a mess, lack of stock but it has a lot of potential.

Me hubiese gustado.

I took my elderly mother and my daughter to the Lewes garden centre on a Sunday for breakfast. We were shocked at the prices on the menu to start with. We decided to just order a coffee and to go elsewhere to eat. After spending on over priced coffees and was served by a person with no personality, we then looked for a table to sit at. Every chair was covered in stains, they were disgusting. How they can justify charging those prices and expect us to sit on filthy chairs is beyond me. We left, vowing never to return again.

Right where do I start, oh yes well firstly we were hungry my suggestion was how about the Garden centre restaurant it was agreed and onroute with our journey. So here goes my rant so bearwith Sunday roast Beef meal meat was chunky and fairly tough to cut through, rustic vegetables staring you with an ensuing fight on your plate potatoes and cauliflower some what tough dry and sliced carrots stuck together welded by some hours of neglect. These poor vegetables had been through some ordeal before arriving on my table, indeed a quick look at my wifes and mothers plate she was astounded how she would commence battle with a generous portion of mish mash and splash of culinary delight called a traditional British Sunday Roast, well I suppose the yorkshire pudding stood out as being adequate but thats about it, frankly appaling one step up from a 1960's school meal but with twice the portions, wish I had the fish and chips now which looked great, but the lady infront of us said it was lovely here the roast that is ( yeah right somebody planted her there I reckon) so conclusion and my advice have a quick look at what the natives are eating first or take another set of teeth, apart from that Staff were great but shame love the Garden Centre

After a long absence we decided to lunch here, luckily we visited twice! The first call was on a day when youngsters were running the cafe without correct supervision. It was a disaster with poor service, lots of giggles behind kitchen doors and smashed crockery. The food was not too good either and we both left serious comment cards for the manager. The manager quickly responded and asked us to return. We waited a week before visiting for lunch. The whole atmosphere had changed with courteous, mature and extremely hard working staff. The Restaurant manager took time to see us after our meal (gammon, egg & chips par excellence) and explain that we had encouraged a big 'shake-up'. We left having had a very good lunch amongst other very happy diners. This Company listened and acted on the comments given...not everyone does this. We were most impressed and will certainly return. (especially after seeing the quality of their homemade scones!)Note: there is an excellent childrens play area adjacent and childrens parties are catered for.

Come on owners, start getting things right and supply these hard working managers with the stock they need.to serve what is on your menus, so they don't have to constantly apologise to customers. They are doing their best and a great job, they need better support. Will certainly be back again..
