Level Best Art Cafe in Colchester

A really lovely little cafe, really great staff, great selection of cakes and very clean! Never too loud and feels so welcoming! Couldn’t recommend it more!

My favourite spot in the city to get lunch! Always a friendly face and welcoming atmosphere. Gender neutral and accessible toilets along with a selection of delicious fresh food! Level Best Cafe is a fantastic spot with a warm, welcoming vibe. The staff is friendly, and the menu offers a variety of delicious, freshly made options. I loved their coffee and hearty breakfast options, all perfectly prepared. It’s an ideal place to relax or catch up with friends. Highly recommended!

What a lovely fresh cheerful place the homemade cakes were delicious. And the assortment of homemade jams and preserves where great. It's l9vely to have this in place for the community. For young people needing a helping hand to learn a new skill gain confidence. This is a great place.

Level Best is such a huge asset to Colchester. It's the perfect spot to go for excellent food, friendly service, beautiful artwork and local homemade produce. The portions are always generous, as are the prices. On this particular visit my partner and I both enjoyed the most delicious cheese scones, while enjoying these we overheard another customer commenting on how wonderful the afternoon tea is, so we'll definitely be back to try that soon! Can't recommend them enough, Level Best really is a must visit for those travelling to Colchester and for residents looking for somewhere new to become their go-to café. 😊

As a support worker, I often enjoy lunch here with clients. The absolute highlight of today's visit was the Halloumi and Mushroom burger, it had a delicious chilli jam in the middle which I found to be most splendid! The cafe has a bright and relaxed atmosphere which we always highly enjoy. The staff are beyond friendly and the food is made to a very high standard. Thoroughly recommended, can't wait until our next visit.

I used to regularly visit the " Level best" before it moved - at last today I visited in it's new destination. It is large, airy and bright and clean giving a proffesional look. The entrance has a ramp and the place is disabled friendly. I had a very tasty lemon drizzle cake and rhubarb soda, good prices £5.50. With an easy to read menu. Kitchen now not so on view however trainees busy and someone assisting in the cafe cheerfull, chatty and friendly. Good to still see art work around the cafe and nice touches of greenery too. An amazing art exhibition area. Today it was by: Ann Dowden "behind the hoardings" of building work - turely talented with fascinating subject which I admire too. So pleased I finally got to visit - will definitely come again!

Busy but not manic, amazing value and good portions and taste! Look forward to returning, staff all friendly, fast but you are not hurried in anyway

I heard some great things about this place and their mission to give people opportunities that they may have not got before. I simply came on for a coffee and a relax while someone was at an appointment so a nice coffee and a time waste (with my 3DS of course) was my aim and lo and behold a coffee is £2.50! Even with oat milk! My only complaint? I couldn't tip too big on card? I tried to tip £1.50 and it wouldn't let me! (I still tipped just thought that was odd.

This wonderful little spot is great for taking family, friends or acquaintances. The staff are wonderful and are always happy to help

Beautiful new light building. One of the best places in Colchester for snacks, lunch and cakes. Lovely cooking. Proper coffee machine so you always get a decent coffee. The venue is a social enterprise project which provides skills training opportunities for adults and young people with learning difficulties. Highly recommended.

Best cheese scones in Colchester, need to get there before 11:00 otherwise they’re gone! Great place with good service, homemade food and all in a good cause.

This is a lovely quiet cafe, with good coffee, tea and cakes. They have a breakfast and lunch menu as well. Fantastic cleanliness, great decor and a small gallery if art which would cheer anyone up.

As a support worker, I have visited the Level Best Cafe at its new location a few times and have found it to be a great environment to relax with clients. The staff are always so very welcoming and happy, the cake selection is out of this world and the Coffee is amazing. The whole atmosphere is one of great energy and love, there is always laughter and fun in the air. Keep it up guys and thank you so very much!

This is a great place for tasty, wholesome, great value food and drink, and is also conveniently located for Colchester town centre. It's also an art gallery and a venue for training people with learning disabilities, and everyone is very friendly.
