I can only surmise that there may have have been issues in 21 but our lunch stop today was very enjoyable. On a wet miserable day this warm bright venue was perfect. We chose the soup and a coffee. Delicious tomato soup with tasty bread and a decent cup of coffee. Not the cheapest but quality food. Place was clean & the young lady who served us very friendly. Would be happy to visit any time.

Really sad to see a man being attacked by a member of staff in the queue. She was shouting at him and asked him to leave The queuing was mayhem- one lady (who was shouting) was taking the order and then serving the drinks! I was stood there for 25 minutes and witnessed people being attacked by the staff. This man was also with a young family who had been waiting for drinks and ice cream but now said they wouldn’t serve them- seriously embarrassing and unprofessional! Separate to that- the tables were really dirty. I had to clean my own. Such a shame that with covid places are short staffed but you would hope these people and places would be going the extra mile to win business not push them away! I would never go here again!!

Absolutely awful service. Staff rude and shouldn’t be in the catering industry. Chaos in queuing and customers in the queue talking whereupon the member of staff started an argument. She’s desperately needs to find a new career. Sad as venue is nice but needs cleaning.

Bold and unapologetically awful customer service coupled with a ridiculously rude and argumentative owner and staff member made for a most unpleasant visit. See the other 23 'terrible' rated reviews for evidence that mine is not an isolated terrible experience. That said, if you actually enjoy being heckled or shouted at by hysterical baristas, then this could be the place for you. Cue the inevitable customer-blaming reply, accusation of not having been a customer, or somesuch other nonsense from a business owner who simply does not care how they treat their customers.. here it is:

We wouldn't have come here if we had read the reviews first. Staff were rude for absolutely no reason. Expected everyone to know how they ran the cafe without any explanation. Told off for using the wrong exit, but the 'right' one was locked so that makes it difficult to use. Very disappointing. Would advise taking a packed lunch or pick a different eatery if visiting nearby.

My partner and I are very confused by the previous reviews as we found the staff very friendly and helpful! I asked what alternative milks I could have in my mocha and they provided me a few options and 3 cakes on the shelf were also vegan! I got the hazelnut slice and it was delicious. We liked this place so much we came back the following morning! Lovely little spot and I recommend to anyone that is in the area.

The staff here are unbelievably rude. I’d not read the reviews beforehand as we called in whilst walking past but I echo other comments. One dark haired girl in particular was really off hand and short with customers and also ignored people that were waiting for a long period of time. It’s a shame because whoever is the chef there makes some really good food but it’s overshadowed by the terrible service. The only reason people go there is because there’s not much else in the way of eateries in the area. Best avoided if possible.

Had a quick stop here before going for a boat trip. There was a reasonable choice including at least one vegan option of falaffe with pitta bread and salad. The portion was good and didn't have time to finish it before having to leave to get the boat

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. My fiancé and I popped in for an ice cream yesterday and upon entering we were told to put on masks or leave. My fiancé and I both have past health problems which mean it is extremely unpleasant for us to wear face masks. We have consulted doctors who recommended we don’t wear them. We politely explained that we were both exempt - then all hell broke loose. What followed is probably the worst behaviour by an employee of a customer facing business I have ever seen. The manageress was aggressive, shouting, slamming cutlery and plates, finger pointing just a couple of inches from my fiancé’s face. We tried to explain that there was no requirement to produce an exemption card. Later on, the manageress pretended to phone the police claiming we were breaking the law, despite me showing her the government guidance website. What a truly vile person trying to intimidate innocent visitors to the cafe. Her colleagues were equally as vile, shouting, gesticulating and demanding we leave as we stood there calmly. The behaviour of the staff drove other customers away and left us both in disbelief. Later they claimed that it was their “policy” to not serve people without masks - unfortunately, their “policy” does not trump the law. Their behaviour broke the Equality Act as they clearly discriminated against us on the basis that the manageress didn’t think we could possibly be exempt. The manageress needs to know she is not the arbiter of who is, and isn’t exempt from wearing masks. When we got back to our hotel, we checked the earlier reviews for this cafe, and we weren’t surprised to see that this kind of behaviour from the manageress and her staff is a regular occurrence - nearly every other review mentions her rude, aggressive and/or threatening manner. Don’t believe me? Just read more reviews on here, or on other review platforms. If you are in Glenridding, please avoid this place - the manageress clearly has anger management issues and deserves to be sat alone where she can’t interact with people. Furthermore, she is clearly not aware her actions could land her in legal troubles. There is a fantastic cafe just 200m away from this awful place, at the St Patricks Boat Landing - they were friendly and welcoming, please spend your money there instead.

I visit this cafe yesterday after walk with my family around Glenridding. We go inside for tea and cake, it was ok but staff members come across rude and not welcoming. We also saw 3 members of staff be very rude to young couple about masks. One member of staff very shouting and telling them to get out. Stopped in here after our picnic plans were curtailed by the weather. They seemed well set up for Covid and were able to take us without prior booking. We had toasties which were full to the brim with toppings and came with lots of sides. and my children loved their chocolate milkshakes. There was a good choice of cakes and sweet treats as well. It was maybe a little expensive, but I would visit here again if I was in the area.

Rude staff. We are fully aware of the Covid but we have a family bubble of 7 people. We did not ask for a table of 7 but one of 3 and one of 4. The waitress asked if we were one group to which we replied “ yes but we don’t expect to sit together “ she said we weren’t allowed and turned her back on us. Go to the Hellvelyn kitchen instead much more welcoming and lovely cakes.

We were on holiday recently and decided to pop in to this cafe in Glenridding. We are both being extremely careful from a Covid point of view and the place just felt quite dirty. I had cheese and ham toast which was just thrown together with a plastic single slice of ham cheese made with very little love. The menu boasts the options of Homemade Wholemeal bread but my wife was informed that they only had white bread. Overall we were quite disappointed as the Cafe appears to be linked with the Glenridding hotel where a few years ago we had a lovely meal. Fortunately we had many other very successful restaurant visits throughout our holiday.

On entering the coffee shop there is an Eat out to Help out notice prominently posted on the door as you enter. It also states that it is only available on Tuesdays. It was a Tuesday so we went in and ordered from the counter as advised by the staff who took our order for drinks and cakes then asked us to pay. At that point we were told the Eat out scheme only applies to main meals so our order didn't qualify. We then had a choice - hand the food back & leave or pay the full price. Nowhere on any signage or during the ordering process was it made clear that the discount was only available on main meals. When I queried why the discount was not available I wasn't given any coherent reason - just that it wasn't. I left feeling incredibly disappointed by the whole experience & concerned for other families on tight budgets who will end up paying double what they had budgeted for.A simple sign on entry telling us that the discount was only available on main meals is a suggestion that would mean myself, your staff & the other customers who have written to complain would not have had to go through this experience.

I wasn’t going to leave a review but after seeing others I thought that I should also to warn other people. When we entered we was told that the shop was part of the eat out to help out scheme and we had a choice upon paying via the app or at the desk. As my phone was not working (probably poor signal) I could not order via the app. I told the server this. When I was finished and went up to pay I was told that the discount did not apply because I had not ordered via the app. At no point was I told this is the case. It all felt like a huge scam. Be warned if you are planning on visiting. The food was ok -nothing special and I wouldn’t mind paying full price in normal circumstances but it left a sour taste in my mouth when I felt scammed at the end. Despite signs in the window promoting American Express and their small business scheme the cafe does not take Amex -I was told this when I tried to pay. I would recommend you avoid this place and take your custom to a place that respects customers more and does not try to scam/ mislead them.

We hadn’t booked so knew we would have to wait. The greeting we received was “well it will be at least 30 mins!” I was happy with waiting but the lady shrugged her shoulders as if to say, please yourself!! Which came across quite rude. Once the table was ready, we were passed a menu and told to follow the instructions, which I did. Nowhere in the instructions did in mention the discount code for eat out to help out, fortunately my husband had seen it on the website, but I completely understand how previous reviews have potentially missed out on the offer. Food came quickly and was excellent, although they didn’t bring any cutlery, but that was soon resolved. 3 out of 4 of us had finished and my daughter had a little left, but people were being turned away with the excuse no tables for at least 30 minutes, we explained we were about to leave, and the the waitress said fine you can have this table! This location is listed on the government 50% scheme however refuses to comply even though we asked the waitress when sitting down. They asked us to order on the website when sitting down, which we duly did - however even after finishing the process the price charged was still £8. I looked around to see if you had to try a specific promo code however couldn’t see one. I then approached a different waitress saying that it didn’t work, and she then “assisted” us by taking a paper order. When going to pay, she told us that it only applied if done online. Untrue - as shown by the attached screenshot. Have emailed the owners but not given the courtesy of a reply.

Whilst queuing, we were behind a large family of six who were turned away because they were advised they couldn’t be accommodated due to the size of their family due to COVID-19 when there was obviously seating available. When the family asked if they could sit separately, they were refused and therefore had to leave. We were astonished at the hotel’s lack of hospitality towards potential customers. We were then lead to a table and advised to order through the app. There was no mention to us of the new “Eat out to help out” scheme whatsoever and that we needed to enter a promo code during ordering to take advantage. When we enquired about it later, we were told it was too late to qualify. Surely staff should be promoting this initiative and not putting barriers in customers’ way. Albeit the food was really good but couldn’t help feeling that certain members of staff were not displaying a welcoming approach. Such a shame during a global pandemic when every customer counts.

Regular to glenridding. Tried this cafe for the first time. With covid we wanted to sit outside which we were able to do no problem. However the only option given to order and take advantage of eatouttohelpout was to use their website with a voucher code. No other option given. But with a slower than a snail free wifi (no other connection available in that spot) their website kept timing out halfway through ordering. After 35 mins we gave up and walked out. Person on the table next to us had to beg a waitress to take his order of just a coffee. Other than a bit.of banter and a seat for 35 it was waste of time.

We are regular visitors to Glenridding and have a favourite cafe, Fellbites, which we always use. Today, we thought that we would try somewhere different and went to 'Let it Brew'. From the start to the end, the service was poor. The person who served us was 'matter of fact' (at best) - we felt like we were being an imposition just to order. Drinks were almost thrown on the table. At the end, when we left, the staff were at the counter and didn't even manage a 'thank you' or 'hope to see you again'. In fairness, the food was good but it was over-shadowed by the whole experience. If this was my business, I'd be very worried; the staff are damaging the customer experience and hence the brand. Firstly the food and drinks we’ve had have been very nice, a bit pricey but to be expected at a tourist trap. The cafe looks really nice and is done to a good standard my only gripes are that when busy the staff are not the most efficient, especially for coffee, my toasted sandwich was made and delivered while I was still waiting for an Americano and the fact that people with dogs are relegated to 4 tables that are basically in the entrance lobby! I understand not everyone wants to be near dogs, but in a walking village I would expect at least some space in the cafe to allow well behaved dogs.

Terrible terrible attitude from staff... brazenly arguing with customers over a wrong order!!The food was quite nice (could be better and I would say quite pricey for what it is) and this place has lots of potential to be a gorgeous little cafe but I’ve never experienced such atrocious and rude attitude from staff. After watching another table be verbally attacked from the manager/waitress (blonde haired woman) about a wrong order (which was the restaurants fault, although this is besides the point!)....I was disgusted with the way the waitress was speaking to these very nice paying customers as though they were petulant children. After speaking with the table ourselves on our way out to say how shocked we were about the way they were spoken to in front of the whole cafe....I was even more shocked when - once already outside the cafe on our way to the car with my husband - the waitress ran out after us to ask if we had a problem and then proceeded to berate us for talking to the table and continued to give us grief and verbal abuse for “getting involved”. Absolutely ridiculous and unbelievable customer service. I have never experienced anything even remotely like this and felt genuinely threatened by this woman’s behaviour. I think the owners really need to check who they are employing here because if not their staff will run this place into the ground which is such a shame because the decor and food was actually quite nice! I’m not surprised reading previous reviews that many customers comment on the hostility and ignorance of staff. It’s safe to say we won’t be back here ever again and we are very regular Lake District visitors.

This nicely refurbished cafe adjunct to the Glenridding hotel has a huge range of coffees on offer as well as soup, sandwiches, scones and cakes etc. Service is friendly and efficient, order and pay at the counter, collect your cutlery and condiments and food is brought to your table. We had soup and sandwiches, the sandwiches came with a small side salad and crisps and were good. The vegetable soup was average, a purée of vegetables dominated by swede. It’s a pleasant place but very pricey for light meals and coffees etc.

Afternoon Lunch, great choice on the menu from main meals to Sandwiches. We all chose sandwiches. The service was very quick and the food was great. I was the only one that added soup to with my sandwich and I was blessed with a great soup.

We only had soup and sandwiches here, but they were lovely. The garlic and mushroom soup was delicious, sandwiches made with fresh bread and generous fillings, colourful side salad, home-made coleslaw. Excellent coffee as well. The staff were really pleasant and friendly, the atmosphere was warm and relaxed, and it’s in a super location. We will definitely go again. Recommended.

On a cooling afternoon in October this cafe was a welcome rest from a long walk. Refurbished after the recent flooding, the interior is tasteful and in keeping with the locale. The coffee was well presented and had a pleasing taste - many of the chain sellers' coffee is bitter or burnt. the light meals are good value and very tasty/ our seat gave us a well lit views of the area and the warmth was so enticing we had seconds - a large pot of tea.

There's one thing the Lakes is full of and that's walkers so it jars slightly when you get an unfriendly welcome in a tea shop.

Came to Let it Brew as the service in Beckside bar was awful. Food arrived in good time and was tasty. We both had chick and lettuce sandwich. We have been before but this time I noticed how untidy and dirty looking the cafe was. Table was full of crumbs and spillage and was wiped by myself not the staff. The floor around our table was full of food and looked like it hadn't been brushed for a while. We where so hungry after a day's walking that I didn't speak to the staff and complained. My issue wasn't with the food but the cleanliness. Didn't see any staff wiping tables at all.

First and last visit to this establishment. Looked inviting from outside, nicely furnished and view of the lake. Unfortunately that was all it had going for it. Firstly we could not sit outside as the tables were dirty and there was litter on the floor. The inside seemed clean enough and we ordered two pots of tea and two pieces of lemon sponge cake. The cake was fine but the tea was awful. One cheap tea bag in quite a large pot of water. Even after "letting it brew" it was still like drinking hot water and milk. Perhaps two tea bags per pot might help but we will not be returning to find out. Having paid £10.60 for the privilege to say we felt ripped off is an understatement.

My wife and I wished for a simple sticky bun type of snack and a drink. When we approached the door we noticed all the chairs were up on the tables and the floor was being washed. This was at 4:55. On the door it clearly stated food served 10:00 - 6:00. So I went in to ask if they were by any chance open. The person cleaning said no but we could get a coffee in the bar at the end of the corridor and mentioned something about winter opening hours (which was not mentioned on the door). If winter opening hours is relevant, surely it should state it on the door. Also, don’t leave the door open implying open for business. Otherwise, they should not be cleaning before the end food serving times.

This cafe seems to be part of a hotel which mogjt explain the prices. Check the price of coffee and cake before you buy. There are better places for you to spend your hard earned money with a wider choice of food.

So, having been trashed by Storm Desmond, this place is now all new. However, you are welcomed by an officious sign "This is not a Public Thoroughfare" stuck on the doors (note to management : it was you who commissioned the architects to design a building that encourages people to pass through, and isn't the fact that they might pass through a business opportunity?).

Called in mid-week, for a cuppa and to get out of the awful weather for a bit. Being the only one's in didn't even bother us or indeed the staff. Great service, a splendid flat white for me and a Americano for the Mrs. Food wise, I had a lovely tasting tea cake, the wife had a gluten free cake, which for the life of me, I can't remember what.

Apologised for not doing poached eggs as too late but took my order for scrambled eggs with no dairy added and no spread on the toast.

On a typical Lake District evening what are you looking for in a pub? This certainly hit the spot … a roaring log burner, a warm welcome with a mix of locals and visitors, good beer and excellent food - tasty, good quality and hearty portions. Travelling alone you always end up talking to those around you and they were similarly enjoying the beer and the food. It’s certainly dog friendly too with water bowls and towels to dry them when you arrive … before they hog the log burner. I gather this has been newly taken on by a family and I wish them well. Certainly I hope it thrives so I can return whenever I am breaking my journey at Shap - which is v convenient just off the M6.

Popped into the Morrisons cafe, for a spot of lunch before travelling home. I selected the ultimate fish and chips, the picture showed a piece of fish that hung over the sides at both ends of the plate, with stacks of chips. My wife asked if I would like bread and butter as well, I replied no looking at the size of that fish it would just be pure greed, My wife ordered the smaller portion for herself. When it arrived my portion of fish sat comfortably on the plate not even touching the sides of it. The chips were a child's portion at best. My wife's was served up on what can only described as a side plate, and it didn't even fill that. Probably the last time I will consider thinking about popping in there, a shame as we are regularly in Penrith, I would say 4-5 days a month.
