Lee Garden in Lichfield

Visited on Sunday 20th October for a meal with friends. We had also visited 2 weeks previously for a family 50th celebration. On both occasions we had the same waiter. Food was lovely the first visit and was brought out pretty much all together. On the second visit, starters were brought out at different times with long gaps, the first starters were finished before everyone had their food. Main courses were the same and one meal was missed completely it took chasing 3 or 4 times to actually get the meal. The attitude of the waiter was disinterested to say the least. However, the worst thing for me was the expectation of a tip on paying. On our first visit in front of family the waiter announced he had added 10% to the credit card for the tip, putting me in an embarrassing situation and a much increased bill. On Sundays visit with friends, we all agreed to split the bill and told the waiter the amount we were paying on our cards (the amount included an agreed tip in light of the poor service) Not only did he check the bill before we paid to see how much we were tipping but tried to increase the amount for each of us by £10 each for an increased tip. It really left a very bad feeling of the experience. I think we will think twice about returning.

We are regulars at this restaurant but I must say our last visit was disappointing. Out of our four meals only one was edible, two identical meals were totally different in look and taste. The other meal was a good 10-12 minutes behind the others and we had to chase it several times. I really don’t know what has changed at Lee Garden but I am afraid we are now looking for a new regular restaurant.

Not the cheapest Cantonese restaurant in Lichfield, but the best for food, service and atmosphere.

Absolutely the worst service and food I have ever experienced. Avoid. Three of us were there and were charged a 10% service charge. Disgraceful, the food was below the standard of a take-away, the service rubbish, and when I complained about the service charge I was blanked. Do not go to this kip.

Been coming here for years with friends but first time visiting as a family with 2 children. Excellent food and excellent service. Staff were really engaging with the children, took extra time to talk through food choices and were very attentive. Drinks and food were served quickly. Food was really tasty with good portion sizes and piping hot. Yum! We will return.

Great Chinese food served in friendly atmosphere.

Went for my wife's birthday dinner. What a disappointment. The spare ribs and wings were so dry and four in each portion. The Singapore fried rice was so lacking in flavour we had to ask them to add some spice but even after that we left the whole bowl mainly untouched. The prawn fried rice lacked authentic Chinese flavour. The hot pork pot was mainly full of onion and again not spicy as advertised. I wouldn't set my foot there ever again. £69 completely wasted and £9 of it was on diluted two glasses of Pepsi at £4.50 each. You couldn't make the stuff up. Very poor food! For those who have enjoyed proper Chinese food you would be left so disappointed at this place

We were out for a family meal on Tuesday, staff were super accommodating and asked if we'd like to move to a round table when one became free so we can all talk easier. Super friendly and attentive, food was amazing. Thank you very much!

We went on Saturday 25th May for a pre theatre dinner. The meal was excellent. Whilst there my husband became very unwell the staff were exceptionally kind and helpful and we were very grateful fir their kindness and support. Definitely a restaurant we will re visit. Thank you.

First time visitors for my birthday 🎂 meal, friendly staff, restaurant very clean, let down by the predominantly frozen starters and bland main dishes shame really as was looking forward to it and we drove 20 miles each way 🙃

Takeaway customers - TAKE NOTE Ordered a takeaway, food was ready on time and piping hot. All very tasty, absolutely no issues there - definitely 5 stars. THE ISSUE - paid by card and noticed the amount put through had been rounded up to the nearest 5p eg £50.26 would be put through at £50.30. I queried this with the staff member and I got an apology along with a statement ‘we are told to round it up to the nearest 5p, I can refund you if you want’ For a few pence I didn’t waste my time, but the point is if they do this to every order all night it might only be a few pence per customer but it is both illegal and bad business practice. All I would say is check the amount matches the order value before paying.

We are on holiday so took a chance to visit. Popped in for lunch to a very warm welcome. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was most excellent. Best Beef in Black Bean sauce I’ve had. As a fantastic bonus, lots of gluten free options for my wife. Great experience, will return when we are back in the area.

Smashing Chinese! Great value on the sharing meals and the staff were super friendly! Would make this a regular spot if I was a local. And they kept the prawn crackers coming!

Salt and pepper chicken was bland and horrible just tasted like battered chicken, no flavour what so ever would definitely not recommend if you’re a salt and pepper chicken lover

Fantastic food as usual. Waiters were so attentive and friendly - couldn't have looked after us any better. Set meals are excellent value for money. We will be back and would definitely recommend.

My sister booked a table for 8 people. We got a table for 4 people with 8 chairs. Felt like sardines in a can.

Disappointing service and rude management when we dared to question the bill for their overpriced mediocre food. Crammed 8 of us on a table for 6 in a corner with 3 other tables in the same scenario as us. No room to move at all or eat . Slow service by rude condescending staff with the exception of the dark haired girl from Birmingham who has way too much personality and customer service skills to be working there. Food arrived slowly and not all together again no apology. Ruined my friends birthday party . Mediocre food which is way over priced even for lichfield. Side orders charged individually but served in one bowl but no way full sized portion . Wont ever be returning ...

We had a booking for eight people to celebrate my partners birthday. After being crammed into a corner around a table not big enough to seat eight people our night got worse. After having starters we were told to keep the cutlery used for them to eat our main meals. When the main meals arrived there was not enough room on table for the food to go on. I had to forgoe having another drink as there was no room to put a pint glass. The attitude of the staff was rude and negative and crockery was banged down on the table and food was spilled during serving. Staff would not listen when bill was questioned and we received no apologies for the bill being wrong. We gave up trying to explain ourselves as they would not listen and ended up just paying the bill in order to get out of the place. We have eaten here many many times but not again and will not recommend to anyone again. Really has gone down the pan.

Lovely food but the management lets this place down, very rude and patronising, we were squashed in like sardines, not very comfortable, and expected to keep and use dirty cutlery from the starters for the main meal which is disgusting, prices Al a carte and buffet standard

Nice food, thats it ! Nothing else positive to say about this visit, this was one of the worst dining experiences we have ever received. we have been going to this restaurant for years and noticed of late how drastically down hill it has gone, 8 of us were squashed around a table that 6 would have struggled with sitting at, waiting staff shrugged when we said it was too tight to sit and eat comfortably, we were told to keep dirty cutlery from our starters to use for our mains, one main meal came out 10 minutes before the others, the bill was supposed to itemised (mixed drinks x5) isn’t itemised ! The manager actually shouted at me when I asked for it to be broken down ! Al a carte prices for buffet service ! We will not be returning.

Had lunch with three friends, as always the food is very good. We all had different meals and the service was swift and effective as always. Look forward to visiting again soon.

Was really looking forward to going here . Plan it for mother day . Food was cold . Got told 2 hours booking after hour get told the food getting turn off . Thinking the food would get replayed when run out ( chips 🍟 for the kids ) to be waiting then get told have to ask for more . They do not cater for Allergies/Intolerance please don’t go if have any ! Simple as pudding give out ice cream 🍨 ask if do some think else got told no . So ask for Manager ask what you going to do for him to walk away ? Then to top of off there vape down the men’s toilet . When 5 year old come out going this is the worse place there vap down the toilet 🚻 yet don’t do any think about it .. water and Electronics don’t mix .. will not be return to this place !

Ordered a takeway looking for a better Chinese but damn what a mistake. Wrong order initially was given to us. Food was disgusting and most of the food was already cold after the 2 minute drive home. A lot more expensive too but really not worth it. When we called to speak about the wrong order they stated it was right and issue wasn’t sorted.

I know people write the BEST I'VE EVER HAD. But this was THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD. The staff were amazing. Highly recommended to you all.

Tried once due our local being shut for the night. Very over priced for what you get. I don’t like my food hot but even I had to warm it up when I got home as it was cold. Only live 7 mins away. Food was ok nothing special. Will defiantly be going back to my local and much better in every way Chinese

We held an 80th Birthday celebration for 30 people. The tables and chairs were arranged as agreed. All the guests agreed the standard and quantity of the food was very good, as was the service. A great help to making it a day to cherish and remember. CJL

Went there last night for the first ever time with my mother in law and partner, very busy, staff were very rude not just one particular staff a few of them, the service was very quick but the food lacked a lot of flavour, don’t think we will be visiting again due to the rudeness off the staff

Second time this week that myself and new partner visited with friends. The staff were superb, friendly and funny, which makes such a difference to the whole experience. We had a set meal for 4 which was brought out promptly and hot. All dishes were well represented and well cooked. All in all an excellent experience, thank you to all the staff and the kitchen staff who are often missed out. We will return soon.

Food was delicious however service was really slow we had to chase up food and drinks multiple times before we got it. Shame really as food was lovely when it came

We sadly went for a set meal that included chicken and sweetcorn soup, it was not nice. Rest of set meal was tasty.

Last year my colleagues and I didn't have a great experience with another Lichfield establishment, so we decided to go for an old company favourite - the Lee Garden. We didn't arrive all together, but the waiters seated us and fetched drinks while we waited for everyone to get there. Unfortunately once we did all arrive we were then moved to a smaller table; it got a bit cramped as there were two other large parties very close by and it took some jostling to get to our seats, but it couldn't be helped. We went for a set menu for four plus a Christmas set menu for two, given we were a table of six. The food was top-notch. The duck was very crispy and the Szechuan pork was fantastic, all were huge portions too. I ended up turning down a dessert as I was just so full, but the Christmas tortes looked nice. The staff seemed tired and 'going through the motions' that night. They've never been in-your-face anyway, and were polite enough when spoken to, but we weren't asked if we'd enjoyed the food and the bill was practically thrown on the table. It hasn't knocked much off my score as every night in December must be busy and raucous, enough to knacker anyone, but it didn't go unnoticed by the group. Would recommend for nights out with friends or colleagues, but couples seeking a quiet meal might want to come in the New Year.

I’ve just picked up my Chinese order and got the most incredible customer service!! It was a big order and I was treated so well - proper princess treatment! Food is always delicious and the service just makes the experience even better ! Highly recommend

We visited for the Sunday Lunch Buffet. It was very tasty and had a good selection of dishes. The staff were very polite and helpful. We will definitely return.

Recommended as a good takeaway but unfortunately I was really unimpressed. Was a little pricier than other options but thought we would give it a go, curry sauce had a nice flavour and the chips were good but the chicken was terrible in both the curry and the chow mein. The chicken was slimy and had clearly been poached but not fried off so was pale and soggy. Really waste of money and such a shame as we couldnt eat the meat. If we hadn't drove to collect I would have returned the food.

Lovely food, would recommend the stuffed duck with minced prawns. House special chowmein was large and we shared between 3. The food tasted lovely and fresh. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for good quality food.

Absolutely lovely atmosphere. Staff were friendly and funny. The food smelt and tasted amazing. We will be going back again and would highly recommend to anyone to go here.

Excellent food Excellent service… we had a table for 18 at 6.30 pm and nothing was too much trouble for the waiters , they were friendly and polite, the food came out altogether and it was superb.. Well done Lee Garden.👏👏👏😂

Popped in tonight after a look round food festival & quick drink. They quickly provided a round table for 7 of us & we chose the fixed menu to give us lots of different dishes. We started with a delicious soup, very hot & tasty, then wings & ribs followed by 5 different mains & rice, rounded off with ice cream. We all really enjoyed it all & will certainly be back. Thank you.

Booked with friends who had travelled from the south. Taken to our table and drinks ordered with a friendly waitress. Unfortunately it all went downhill from here. Starter platters arrived fairly quickly although one was missing it was quickly rectified. We then waited an hour and noticed people who had arrived after us were eating. We were offered a free round of drinks but no explanation for the delay. When the food finally arrived, two hours after our arrival, it was served with all the finesse of a sledgehammer and slammed on the table by our previously friendly waitress. At no point had we been rude so that was unacceptable. The majority of the food was lukewarm at best and we decided to pay for the starters and drinks we had had and leave. The "friendly" waitress who was now "Miss Attitude" put her fingers inside my friends unfinished drink glass and then slammed back on the table when he said we sre paying for the drinks. Do not think our friendly waitress is suited to hospitality. At no point were we rude or unreasonable. Wont be rushing back. Moostaman. Burntwood. Staffs.

Love this restaurant. The staff are so friendly and will have fun and a bit of banter with you. The food was tasty, the only slight niggle is that I'm not a fan of vermicelli noodles, prefer the slightly thicker noodles. Had a good night.

Went for the Sunday buffet today and was disappointed compared to last time where everything was freshly cooked and hot, this time it was laid out in dishes and wasn't even hot. The food plate warmers are not sufficient enough to keep the food hot.

Got into the restaurant and the waitress came over and gave us some prawn crackers, then took our order for drinks so far so good. The drinks came over, then the waiter took our food order. We ordered Two hot and sour soups, sweet and sour Cantonese chicken, Noodles, Sizzling lamb Cantonese style, special curry, Vegetable curry, egg fried rice x 2, chips and spring roles. The food took over a hour to come out which wasn’t great. when it arrived the hot and sour soups were Luke warm and looked like they had been in and out of a microwave. The lamb Cantonese style tasted like cheap meat it wasn’t lamb, my mate said he wasn’t sure what it was, It was dreadful. Both rice dishes were Luke warm and the noodles were cold. To cut a long story short apart from the chips which were Fantastic, the rest of the food was a microwave job.. Plus the special curry hardly had any meat in it!! If I could rate the food 0 ⭐️ I would, apart from the chips. For £13 plus a main meal I find this an absolute disgrace!! They took the rices, noodles and soups off the bill, which still came to nearly £80… It was a rip off, we paid £80 for food heated up in a microwave.. Please avoid, I felt sick after this meal and I shall personally not ever return to this place. Michael Wan's Mandarin in Blackpool Is a premier league Chinese, the food fabulous! This establishment however is far from that ,it’s utter garbage.. The staff were nice People, It’s not their fault , but the food like I said was a 0/10!

Had a take away from Lee Gardens. Half the starter was missing. The fillet beef main was very grissley and the fruity sauce was so watery it just soaked everything else. Paid £40 for a takeaway. It wasn't worth half the price. Will not be getting a take away from Lee Gardens again

Regularly use Lee Garden and generally very good, although last visit spent £110 in there and one of our party of four asked for a mint at the end of our meal and they said no because we didn’t order Coffee, come on Lee Garden “really”

The food was delicious and plentiful (we went for the Sunday Buffet). Not one of us had a bad word to say about our visit. I read a lot of bad comments on here about the quality of service. This was not our experience. We arrived with one more person (8) than we'd booked for (7). Despite being fully booked, they accommodated us and importantly made us feel welcome without any feeling of being inconvenienced. Our server was always at hand to help and guide us through the menu. When one of our party left a dish that was not to their taste (it looked like her favourite dish but wasnt), she arranged for an ad hoc dish to be prepared and served to her without being asked. It was just a great experience from start to finish. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Duck fried rice and wontons were tasty, but the vegetable sweet & sour was essentially inedible- watery sauce and undercooked veg, really disappointing.

Having recently moved to Lichfield we are trying different takeaways. We ordered from here to collect we just didn’t enjoy our meals the food was ok . Never had so many peas in a meal Fried rice and the curry had so many that’s all you could taste . Update We have eaten in at their restaurant totally different very good food recommend eating in can be a bit abrupt they do push you into tipping just so no !

Best Chinese to eat in in Lichfield. 10/10 food and service. We will be back

A fabulous evening to celebrate our sons birthday. Staff were superb and the food was amazing. They even put together a dessert for our son with a candle on and sang happy birthday to him! Big thank you to everyone

Staff were very accommodating at 'squeezing' us without a booking, early on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was soon busy. Staff were friendly. The food was delicious as always.

Food was good, we had the set lunch menu, and service was also good. It could have been a little warmer, I found it a tad chilly. Toilets were immaculate.

This review is not for the food it's for customer service &, I would of given no stars if I could. Booked a table for 14 people a couple of weeks back. Went in last Saturday with a friend to ask a couple if questions was dealt with by John assistant manager the rudest man I have ever met. Table had already been agreed he tried to push us onto 2 squashed round tables & that they don t like big tables on a Saturday as busiest night for takeaways. Advised if at least 6 if us did nt order off set menu chef would make us wait till last or even throw our order in the bin. He would not let me speak at all hence to say booking cancelled going elsewhere. Lee Gardens need to advise when booking made if its only set menu & John needs a very quick course on customer service.

Weirdest experience ever ,bill came nearly 400 pounds,and were treated like second class citizens the waiters were so rood to us yet other people who walked in were greeted with handshakes,found a bit of plastic in the rice and pointed it out to the staff ,maybe its because we were out of towners and the other customers were locals,we were treated with no respect at all,by the staff ,the only thing positive I can say is the food was good ,retrain your staff lee garden to treat every customer equally and respectfully, it was like walking in to Royston vasy and someone popping in and saying are you a local

Had the BBQ ribs, egg fried rice, chips, duck in plumb sauce, spring chicken in black pepper sauce and curry sauce. I thought the food was really nice especially the chicken in black pepper sauce.1 waiter a shorter 1 complemented my off white hat and was really nice and welcoming. I was very disappointed In the disgusting way 2 off the waiters were acting. There was 1 guy with the earring and we asked for some containers and her was very rude with his response and his body language. Also afterwards I then had to ask another member of staff s tall thin guy in a blue shirt if it was ok to have 4 containers so I could take the rest home. He then proceeded to roll his eyes huff and puff then tutted like a little baby that didn’t get his way. For this reason I would like to say to Lee garden Shove your restaurant where the sun don’t shine. Lots of Harry. Ps: if you wasn’t so rude you would of had a very good customer because let’s just say I’m nit short of money. Never judge a book by its cover.

If you’re not local DO NOT GO THERE. The staff is horrible and rude to you. We found plastic and hair in our food, they didn’t even act surprised or sorry. We had to ask them to take that out of our bill as they didn’t offer that to us. Some local people that were sitting next to us were antagonising us and have us really creepy looks. Horrible experience.

Wife and I had previously experienced a lovely meal here however lunch and the sheer nonchalant attitude of staff means that I won't be returning. Ordered vegetable curry with barely any vegetables. Waiter gave the impression that he did not want to be there. No checking to see whether or not we were enjoying our meals. Went to pay, once again no interest in whether or not we had enjoyed our meals. So I told him anyway. He apologised and stated that he would inform the chef. Its just a shame the chef can't do anything about there poor customer service. The one star would suggest that there was some redeeming features. There were indeed. My wife enjoyed hers and I was able to find the exit.

Sat upstairs all staff incredibly approachable and kind even though clearly understaffed upstairs the lad behind the bar having to take food out, clear glasses etc food was gorgeous can’t complain there all drinks were done prompt and well a larger draft option would great but the lager and ale was great overall positive experience would go again one major negative though is the tipping regulations don’t seem to be clear as doesn’t seem like appropriate staff are receiving tips based on the single genuine reaction to a hefty tip hopefully I misunderstood the reactions I shall ask for clarification the next time we go Thankyou for a great night guys

We have been to Lee Garden both for a meal and a takeaway, although we live out of the area we don't mind making the journey. My partner is Gluten Free and it's extremely difficult to find a Chinese restaurant/takeaway that will cater for us. Lee Garden is fantastic because of this and we always return as its very much worth it, the food is delicious. 🍲👌
