had not used this place for a while but I will be in future. Best Indian food around. Everything was perfectly cooked and so tasty. Great prices too. Very friendly staff. If you want a very good Indian. Look no further. I’ve tried most around the surrounding area and this is the best I’ve had

I had a wonderful evening meal at this place. The prices are really good value and the food was wonderful. I really enjoyed the balti chicken and the nann bread was perhaps the best I've ever eaten in a restaurant. I was also struck by how welcoming the staff were to everyone and what a clear part of the community this restaurant is.

We have visited a couple of times since lockdown was lifted and I'm pleased to say the food is as good as ever. I'm surprised to see a review saying it's not Covid safe because I have seen myself that they have all reasonable measures in place. There is a mandatory hand sanitiser that you are asked to use upon entry and the tables are spaced in line with guidelines. As an extra measure, the waiters put masks on when at the table. As ever, they still have a 5* hygiene certificate and I have full confidence eating here.

We thought we would try this little restaurant in order to support our local businesses but were very disappointed and had a horrible experience. Upon arriving we noticed that the place was full. We should have left there and then but felt we we being hyper sensitive to the pandemic situation. We had to walk between tables which didn't leave 1 m gap between people. The waiters were constantly having to do this to serve /clear tables too. Upon seating, we were ignored and after 15 mins I had to ask for menus and to order some drinks. The drinks and menus arrived. We then had to wait another 20 minutes waiting to make our food order. As no one would make eye contact with us , I decided enough was enough and we got up to leave. I had to go to the bar to pay for our drinks; discovered their card machine would not work so my partner had to go to the cash machine to get money to pay. The waiter was frustratingly insistent that we stay to eat despite my protests that we wanted to leave. This infuriated me all the more so much so that I contemplated leaving without paying. I of course didn't. If you have common sense, I would avoid this restaurant. It's places like this that lead to local spikes in covid, what with overcrowding of customers, inadequate table spacing, not allowing a proper thoroughfare with 1 m gap, no one way system, waiters wearing masks in chins and then constantly fiddling with them, no contact details obtained in case of outbreak...... So, We went over to spices in Sedgley that same night and had a far better experience and a stark contrast to the faulty towers scene in Le Raj

Had thought about popping in previously but decided to give the takeaway a trial and I'm glad that we tried take away first, everything went in the bin. It looked awful and tasted just as bad it was also swimming in a sea of grease. Now it may well be that the restaurant is a different proposition and the service and ambience is so amazing that the poor food is a trade off or maybe we just got a bad night and the chef was off but to assume this would overly charitable as I've had to bin food which to me is a bit shocking.

I have given this restaurant the benefit of the doubt too many times. Naan Bread has consisted of raw dough and on more than one occasion. You don’t need to be a bake off judge to notice this!! We recently moved to gornal so thought we would give the local Indian restaurant a go with our friends. The portion sizes were very small, the naan bread burnt, they served us the wrong rice so had to wait a long while for the correct rice to come out, the chicken tikka masala was very dark red and had onions in which is not usually what comes in masala. The staff spoke broken English and weren’t very friendly. Overall not the best experience and left me and my partner feeling guilty as we had booked it and our friends didn’t enjoy it. The bill for four of us was just under £60 with one round of drinks included. Licensed so had to pay for two beers from them rather than being able to take our own!

My husband and I have visited Le Raj many times and it is safe to say, it is our favourite Indian restaurant without a doubt! We have struggled to find a good Indian restaurant that would serve authentic tasty traditional dishes, aside from catering for western tastes. Le Raj really does tick all the boxes. The food is delicious and is cooked to perfection with a real depth of flavour unlike many other Indian restaurants who disguise there dishes with Chilli powder. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble, Ali really does steal the show! The restaurant is cosy and inviting and I am puzzled how anyone could criticise Le Raj wih bad reviews.

My starter was cold and was sent back, my wifes starter was tough, i tried a bit and could not chew it. The rice was cold and had to be sent back, although on the plus side, my main was very nice. Think the prices are a bit of a con, despite ordering the fixed price offer, we were charged extra for rice chips and nan bread (although the waiter did say something about it, but we could not understand what he was saying, so we just smiled) And the drinks - £10.95 for three soft drinks is a bit excessive. Where do i start? Shocking!1. Starter - asked for a Fish Pakora, instead I received breaded flat fish fingers. 2. Main - asked for a garlic chilli chicken curry - i received a bland chicken curry with no flavour at all - along with a small portion. 3. Waiter came over after the meal and asked what was wrong with the starter... I told him I asked for Fish Pakora and not Fish Fingers which he replied 'Yes Fish Fingers!' He then went on to ask if I wanted them boxed up to take away? Not really funny when it wasn't what I ordered! 4. Bill - majority of places offer poppadum’s on the house as a kind gesture but we had to pay for those which they never told us.Overall - Will NOT be going back here again. An £85 family meal which was a total waste. There are plenty of Indian Restaurants around this area so any other I would recommend!

Went here with my family. The first waiter was quite funny but that's where the fun stopped. Ordered fish pakora and got slimy, flat fish fingers. Ask the waiter to recommend something spicey with garlic. Not spicey with garlic. Portions were small the sauce tasted like it was from a tin. Then I had the bill.....well I felt like I was being mugged. Told the (funny) waiter about the pakora and he said "Yes, fish fingers" laughed then walked away. Avoid this place at all costs there are plenty of local restaurants much much better. If you think this is the best restaurant in the Midlands, you have obviously never eaten at another restaurant or you have extremely poor taste in Indian food.

Went to celebrate a work colleague leaving with about 25 others. Le Raj is a small restaurant which if a party like ours wasn't there could be intimate. Very disappointed with this restaurant. It was recommended to us but there are clauses to the set meal of £9.95 which increased our bill. The food was very average. Poppadoms tasted odd and not very nice. The real sting was the cost of non alcoholic drinks. One half of soda and lime was £2.95. I have visited Le Raj several times over the last 6 months after finding it through my Gourmet Card. There is parking on the street directly outside the restaurant, otherwise it is very close to the local bus route with several decent pubs nearby. The decor is quite welcoming and the restaurant and toilets are clean and well kept. There has been a recent extension that means the restaurant is suitable for booking of large tables. There is a good atmosphere with the tables well laid out with enough space if you would like a quiet meal like my wife and I do.The owner/head waiter is a gem. He is friendly, funny and greets return customers like old friends. He provides great service and makes sure everyone is well looked after. From only the second time we visited he remembered our drinks order - very impressive considering we only go once every 6-8 weeks. The food is excellent. I have eaten in a lot of curry restaurants and this is amongst the best. In fact it is the only one I use in the local are since finding it.The menu is varied with all of the old favourites but I prefer to order from either the Bangladeshi section or the Chef's recommendation section. I am yet to have a meal that isn't well cooked with moist meat and good flavours. I do ask for my curry to be made slightly more chilli hot here, as I have found them to be on the mild side for my taste otherwise, however the flavour is always excellent. The drinks menu is good with a decent selection. The house red wine is pleasant and goes well with a curry. I also recommend the Bangladeshi Lager 'Bangla' which in my opinion is better than Cobra.Give it a try, you will probably find it welcoming with good food, good staff and low prices.

After a very good night out a couple of years ago at Le Raj, we returned, knowing that the place had been refurbished. Unfortunately i think the food now needs an overhaul. I have never seen eaten breadcrumbed fish pakora before, I think the chef had definately gone to Iceland for this one, it reminded me of the fish shapes I used to buy for my children years ago. My main was just a pile of onions poured over some chicken tikka. It was rouded off by a cup of tea which came as a cup of water with a tea bag floating in in and a UHT milk sachet. This is now a cafe not a restaurant!

We have finally found our long awaited hidden gem in Le Raj! After years of searching for an Indian restaurant with the charm of Indian restaurants in years gone by we stumbled upon Le Raj. If you are fed up of eating out in 'minimalist' Indian restaurants listening to 80's power ballads feeling like you are sitting in an over air conditioned waiting room Le Raj is definitely worth a visit. Le Raj serves fantastic tasty curries in a cosy relaxed restaurant with Indian music and genuinely friendly staff where the manager greets you at the door remembering you from your first visit! The menu is very reasonably priced and has some great traditional Indian curry's that you probably wouldn't see on other menus. We eat here at least once a week but all too often twice. Some men grow unattractive beer bellies. Sadly I think I am nurturing a chapatti belly. We can walk from our home which helps, but there are an abundance of Indian restaurants within a five mile radius and our judgement is not coloured by locality or convenience. Over the last 20 years we have visited most in the area from Birmingham across to Bridghorth and have favourites in Kingswinford and Lye but Le raj in Lower Gornal tops our favourite list for value eateries with perfectly balanced Bangladeshi style cooking. As soon as we enter we are greeted by smiles and handshakes coupled by the booming voices declaring "welcome Mr Colin". They also know our phone number so when we ring they usher the same greeting even before I say hello.A curry is obviously subject to personal taste but this restaurant is as close to the original Balti taste that evolved in West midlands from the late 70's. if you like thick stodgy westernised sauces with an array of ever brighter red or orange colours that could easily have been poured from a jar don't bother going. This restaurant will cook what you want.Sadly only one draw back. It is licenced and you can't take your own booze. as usual, if you can't finish your meal, you take it away.

This is a local restaurant for a family member. I am always sceptical of local restaurants as i am a fussy vegetarian. The first time i visited they catered for me beautifully but also asked what i would like them to try on my next visit. I asked for vegetarian food from the tandoori oven. The next visit, they came up trumps! Delicious! Every dish can be tailored to suit your tastes and nothing is a problem for the delightful staff who are attentive and wonderful. The food on all 3 occasions i have eaten here has been fantastic. Consistently high quality food and service.

The food you couldn't knock it, however we were very rushed as being the only table in the restaurant. We had only just opened our menus and was asked if we wanted to order starters without even knowing what they had. Was a good evening though.

We visit family in gornal once a month and love going to La Raj. On one occasion came for a meal on our own wonderful experience again. Unfortunately we had left our wallet at home but this was by no means a problem as we were told we could pay on our next visit . We thank all the staff in La Raj for saving our blushes .

I live not far from this place and have eaten a few times there early evening.Food is nice and plentiful and always freshly cooked to order. The deal from Sunday to Thursday is good for 2 courses.Let down slightly by the staff being a bit miserable and the heating not working right - Place feels a little damp.....

Having been to this place since it has been open ,which has been over 18 years I have not been back since last July.Myself and my partner visited last year when the owner was on holiday for a mid week curry ,which I may say was not cheap due to the drinks prices. When we came to pay I was told that the card reader was not working and could we either leave our details or withdraw the cash!! This was told to us by Ali and sunny who we have knowed for 18year's or more. The party next to our table paid with their cards and no issue ,so why did I have this problem? Since this day I have not been back and I now go to a different restaurant in sedgley ,where the staff are great and the food is fabulous, and this restaurant is called Limes!

After years of saying I would like something different at Christmas for Lunch, we decided a few weeks ago to have an Indian at Le Raj. We eat here regularly and the food & service are always excellent, I was slightly apprehensive about Christmas Lunch but this was soon addressed. The food and service was fantastic, all the family thoroughly enjoyed it, would highly recommend. Enjoyed so much have booked for next year. Thank You Le Raj for a wonderful day

Love love love this restaurant. It has become my absolute favourite for Indian food based on the quality of food and the service you receive from the two fun waiters who seem to never have a day off! They make you feel like such a valued customer and friend! The menu has an excellent variety. The best night to visit is a Tuesday evening when the owner isn't around, it's a shame that he gets the profits from this establishment as he seems to put in no work or effort is ignorant to customers and is lucky to have such a thriving business!

I'm a regular at le raj, usually once a week, sometimes twice and I really do never get bored of the place. The food is second to none, there are other nice Indians within the surrounding 10 or so miles of this one in the heart of Gornal Village and I am yet to find one with such fantastic mouthwatering dishes. Although it is quite small inside, the tables are always spaced out well enough in order for you to enjoy your night out with friends and/or family, the waiters are always up for a laugh, always happy to help you out with whatever queries you have and often give a cheeky brandy or baileys to you at the end of your meal, especially if your a regular! Please please please give this place a try if you haven't already, the 'bihari kebab' is an absolute must! Chicken tikka and sheesh kebab in a mild but ever so tasty sauce, the best dish I have ever had at an indian and I've been to Michelin starred indian restaurants and no dish has come close to this and quite honestly don't better le raj's food on many dishes! A must go, especially on Mondays to Thursdays where you can have any starter (apart from fish), any main course (again apart from fish or combination dishes) and any rice or naan (apart from meat naans) for 8.99, a fantastic deal!! PLEASE be aware of this when ordering as I know this has happened to me and many others, the bill comes and its more expensive than you seem to think it should be, but this is just because you ordered dishes not on the 8.99 menu. Have a fantastic meal!

7 of us went here last week for a get together. We were seated in a separate area to everyone else, which to be fair, was fine for us. We were offered a menu each and the waiter told us about the deals that were available. We all ordered our meals , 3 courses for so much, and our drinks , and did not have to wait long to be served. All fine up to this point. The food was very nice, the order was correct and we all had a great night , until the bill came. The total amount on the bill was about £50 MORE than we were expecting, so I went to ask them to have a look and work it out again. We were told that even though we had had 3 courses each, certain items were not included in the deal. I asked why they had not told us at the time of ordering, to which they suddenly didn't understand what I was asking. We finally got only £15 knocked off the bill, which we paid and then we left. Needless to say we won't be going back. If you do go here , ask what is included with your meal before you place an order!

Le Raj is simply the best Indian restaurant in Dudley and possibly even in the whole country. I've tried many Indian restaurants and not found one better yet. The owner Amin and staff are always of a cheery disposition and willing to help in anyway possible. Although we always go as a couple or with adult friends we have noticed that kids are made most welcome and the staff always make a big fuss of them. The food is always well prepared and presented and can be tweaked to suit ones taste. Please do yourselves a favour and give Le Raj a try. Tell them that Carole and Martin sent you. They will know who we are since we had our wedding reception there.

My family and I went there only recently as we believe it to be the best Indian restaurant in Dudley and were celebrating my grandmas birthday. Upon entry, the staff welcomed us with open arms and gave us all a hand shake wishing us a good evening. The background music and the newly re-done decor really calmed the mood and added a sense of serenity to the air. The menu was also really good as it caters to all kinds of people ranging from mild to hot curries of all tastes and textures to simple English meals like an omelette. Waiting time is pretty short, service is great, staff are really friendly and willing to help everyone, food is excellent and the price is great value for money - would definitely go there again.

Not great, we ordered a take away, and when they told us the price they said it was £43.00 when actually it was £33.00. They quickly agreed but that put doubt in making the order. The food was luke warm, not much flavour in both curries we had. The peshwari nan was bland and very dry, awful mushroom pilu rice that had hard peas in it????? Mint dip not great, only thing that was good was the red dip. As this was the first time we ordered from them, unfortunately this will be the last.

Dudley Spice takeaway in Dudley has been given a food hygiene rating of zero, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows. Dudley Spice, at 28 New Street, Dudley, was given a score of zero on November 30. Best to avoid.
