Pretty little cafe in a secluded spot close to The Church in the centre of Ecclesfield old village. Advertised by a sign outside. Owned by a lovely French lady who was helping a student with their work. We had a super lunch of a French style toasted sandwich , coffee and home made cake. Good menu and food is well presented and freshly made . Not expensive either.

Visit Lunchtime on Weds 19th September. Top quality food. Great menu for various tastes. Really friendly happy staff. Who went the extra mile. Cakes were amazing. This little cafe is worth traveling to. This is the best little cafe I have been to in a long time. You won't be disappointed. I visited Le Petit Cafe yesterday afternoon for the first time and what a delight it was. It’s a very small cafe but the personal service you receive is outstanding. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food that’s served is beautifully fresh and brimming with colour and the cakes - well, they are to die for! It’s a lovely quiet cafe, where I thoroughly enjoyed drinking my tea whilst reading my book. Far from the hubbub of popular high street ‘cafes’ and the food is even better!! I’ll definitely be visiting again soon!

Visited for a light bite with my elderly Mum. Such a fabulous cafe and the owners(Nicky and Dave) were so friendly and helpful. The food is all home made. This will now be a regular for us and I aim to make my way though the wonderful menu.

Visiting Ecclesfield for a memorial service we arrived in plenty of time. Strolling down the road from St. Mary’s Church we found this superb little cafe. Just enough time for a drink before the service started, we were highly impressed with this clean artisan type bistro. Good sturdy cast iron tables with farmhouse style chairs, the tables covered with linen and lace with fresh dainty posies. An interesting decor crisp and homely and an attractive menu which intrigued us enough whilst drinking our tea and coffee to decide to make another journey one day just to partake of lunch. The coffee was rich, hot and the service friendly and inviting, looking forward to a 30 mile trip for lunch! Trés Bon.

I first visited in Feb 2017 and had delightful afternoon tea and cake. I visited again today with my wife, daughter and granddaughter. The cafe has changed ownership in the meantime, and the new owners (Dave & Nicky) are every bit as enthusiastic and keen to provide a wonderful homely service as did their predecessors. We started by sharing a baked Camembert with pesto and salad that we scooped up with Melba toast. I had a succulent sirloin steak panini, and the ladies each had a sweet chilli chicken tortilla. All these were served with salad and crisps. The salad was really fresh and crisp and obviously prepared with thought and care.Ample fresh cake and hot beverages rounded off a leisurely mid week treat. Dave and Nicky were friendly and welcoming to a new mum and her baby. They have yet to fully address baby and toddler facilities, but the windowsill was ample for the carry-cot and, although cosy, I'm assured the loo was roomy enough to attend to our granddaughter. It was relaxing to sit and watch the world go by for a while and I've no doubt we'll return on our next trip to Ecclesfield. The above review was written by me on Tuesday 13th June. I just want to add that I've been looking at the other reports today (4th July 2017) and notice that the less favourable reviews were written before 2017 when the current owners took over the restaurant.

I've been several times to this lovely little cafe; a wonderful place to meet friends over a light lunch, morning coffee or afternoon tea. It is always difficult to decide what to eat as it is all so tempting. The salads and open sandwiches are very tasty, while the variety of (really) homemade cakes makes any thought of diet fly out of the window. The friendly owner, who serves in the shop then goes home to bake more cakes, would give Mary Berry a run for her money. Opening hours, of necessity, are a little limited, but there are also monthly bistro evenings. Ecclesfield is an outer suburb of Sheffield, but the cafe is in the older area, next to what I think is reputed to be the largest parish church in England and quite close to the park.

I didn't think it was possible to find perfection in a store until calling into Le Petit Cafe. Me and my partner were so warmly welcomed by the owner upon arrival and due to the fact it was half an hour before closing time, had the cafe all to ourselves. We ordered a latte and a special hot chocolate, followed by a slice of homemade Guinness chocolate cake each. This was just what we needed after strolling through the fields on a Wednesday afternoon. Everything was presented so elegantly and with care - the cakes even came with mango coulis drizzled around the edge! The cafe itself was slightly on the smaller side, but this added to the essence and beauty of the place. Very traditional with a real vintage feel due to the graceful and exquisite decor. The menu isn't huge, but it still offered more than I'd normally expect from a cafe (particularly one with such an intimate setting).I had a crayfish and prawn salad from the specials board, which was lovely and excellent value. Lots of thought had clearly gone into its preparation and presentation. My wife had a toasted cheese and ham croissant, which she also enjoyed. I and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the Tapas evening referred to by the previous contributor. Any contribution made anonymously is not worth paying heed to. Non of the other diners spoken to, and there were only 14 of us in total, were aware of any issues. This sounds like the comments of a competitor or disgruntled staff member rather than a customer. The standard of the food and the atmosphere within the cafe and between the other diners went towards making for an excellent evening out.

I’ve been coming to this place since it opened I think 3 years ago, and it’s just awesome. Christine the lady who runs it cooks the best food and the service is similar to that you would expect to find in an expensive restaurant. If you are looking for a romantic chilled out night try the Tapas on a Friday, at £17.50 a head you get plenty and it’s a relatively cheap night as you bring your own wine. Christine also does a Bistro night on a Saturday which is more expensive at £21.50 each but again well worth it as the food is top quality although the Tapas night defiantly offers the best value. You can also off-course just call in during the day for something to eat, Christine does a really good range of hot and cold food, I’ve probably had everything on the menu over the years and it’s all very tasty and beautifully presented. If you decide to try the Tapas or Bistro night you’ll need to book about a month in advance or forget it because the venue is only small and sits about 8 small tables so it’s no good if there are more than about 4 of you.I’ve only ever seen a couple of negative reviews on this place and it’s normally only been when there are larger groups in who have complained about being told to keep the noise down a little when they have had too much wine and got steadily louder as the evening has progressed. I happened to be in with my wife Nicola one such night and I felt like telling the party of women to keep it down myself. Anyway it is very rare you get larger parties in, I think Christine has deliberately tried to move away from larger parties and has targeted couples or group of four which I think is the right approach given the venue size. Also, Christine is French which is why a couple of people may have commented that she comes across as rude. Don’t hit me with a bread stick when you next see me if you read this Christine. But on a serious note nothing could be further from the truth. Christine just has high standards and you can see that in how she manages her staff and the way she presents her food. Anyway if you try the place you won’t be disappointed, it’s why once people discover Le Petite Café they come back time after time after time.

Take your own wine - only small charge for corkage and served by waiter all evening. Staff lovely - very attentive. Thank you for making it a memorable evening. Family had travelled from Scotland and Lincolnshire and were all impressed. Definitely recommend. Also good place for gorgeous cake and coffee through the day!

We popped in on the off chance after a walk around the village and park. For two lovely coffees, a piece of carrot cake, which was bursting with chunks of walnuts and goateed with a delicious frosting, and chocolate cake, served with strawberries and cream, was a bargain still just under £7.Service was efficient and friendly.

I agree totally with the C'est terrible review from the Tour evening. The owner did indeed ask us to be patient due to the high numbers, however after two hours we had a right to expect a decent meal for our £30. Her attitude when dealing with the more than justified complaints, was nothing short of rude. Maybe a one off this night, but I won't be going back.

Tucked away in a corner of Sheffield is Le Petit Café. With only 15 covers it is an intimate little place run by an authentic and charming Parisienne qui s'appelle Christine. The food is always delicious and the service always courteous but never stuffy. She also does tapas nights on Fridays (book well in advance) and a bistro evening on Saturdays. She put on a party in a neighbouring courtyard for the Tour de France's visit to Yorkshire. From the cafe''s tiny kitchen and with a bunch of willing but young and relatively inexperienced staff she produced marvellous food and the atmosphere of a real French market square party for 120 people! Despite a few logistical challenges (it's a petit kitchen remember!), she fed and watered everyone in her usual style! I'd recommend this wonderful little place to anyone.

I'm a regular customer and went to this evening with friends. Yes, the outside courtyard dining area was full but we felt it added to the atmosphere. To be fair Christine did announce at the beginning of the evening that the 5-course meal would take time, and it did. But this was to be a French meal , and leisurely eating was what those familiar with Le Petit Cafe expected. Service got off to a good start with prosecco on the house, and an accordionist serenading us. We'd brought our own wine and were able to gently unwind and relax - some of us had been watching Le Tour going past the top of the road and were exhausted! Perhaps the leisurely service was the reason why some people, rather than adapting to this easy-going French style, remained stoicly English and managed to drink too much, resulting in their being rude to both Christine and the staff. This special evening was a one-off occasion. Normally the food Le Petit Cafe produces is excellent, well-cooked, generous portions, beautifully served and tasty. On this particular evening the staff were covering greater numbers, with many different demands from customers. To some customers portion size seems to have been a problem: not my experience. This evening was a hiccup in normal service. Don't be put off: it's pretty damn good whether you want coffee and cake, or lunch, or an intimate tapas or bistro evening. It's also a lovely place to practice your French, read French magazines, or join a French course. You'll find a warm welcome and excellent service (yes!).

We were looking forward to visiting Le Petit Café after reading rave reviews on the internet. We had booked a table for a Tour de France celebration night. The courtyard was nicely decorated but we were surprised at how many tables were crammed into such a small space. This restaurant really failed to deliver. The kitchen simply could not cope with the amount of guests that were seated and the portion sizes were a joke. We ordered the ‘beef’ bourguignon and had a spoonful placed on our plate with only two small pieces of beef. This was left to go cold as we waited for the rest of the dish. It took 20 minutes and a complaint for the waiting staff to bring us TWO boiled potatoes each to go with our spoonful of bourguignon. After the complaint, we did have a visit from the owner, Christine, who was less than impressed that someone had dared to complain in her restaurant. A member of staff started crying in the middle of service and it was clear the waiting staff were under immense pressure and could not cope with the demand. By 10pm, we had been served 3 tiny-portioned courses and were all absolutely famished after sitting for 2 ½ hours and hardly eating a thing. We left before the coffee and dessert was served as we were so disappointed with the service and very hungry! I am sure the day-to-day service of this small café is normally much better. However, it was our first visit here and the poor service we received coupled with the owner’s alarming attitude to handling customer complaints made this a place we will not be visiting again.

My Mum, Sister and myself have lunch here every time we visit Ecclesfield for our hair appointments at the Hairdressers across the road, (our stylist recommended the cafe to us .) We always receive first class service and food. Everything is presented so well, and served by such welcoming staff.

We had booked this evening after many visits ourselves to entertain our good friends who were staying for the weekend. My friend Mike adores anything french and on entering the Cafe Christine greeted them like they were old friends. The food was the best we have had there and the service and attention to detail was excellent. I must agree with other reviewers the cakes are amazing.

As locals to the area my husband and I have been visiting the cafe since Christine opened in 2012 and always receive a warm and friendly welcome. Le Petite Cafe is a fantastic cafe by day and transforms to a beautiful bistro on Friday and Saturday evenings with a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. The food is always fantastic and as a hostess Christine's attention to detail is always spot on. The only draw back is the cakes are too tempting and you can never say no.

I recently visited Le Petit Cafe with a group of work friends on a Friday evening. This was not the first time I had visited as it is very local so I had been a few times with friends. There were 13 of us in the evening that opted for the Tapas evening with bring your own beer. On arrival there weren't enough places set, however this was quickly rectified and the food was served. Unfortunately this is where the evening went down hill, rapidly. As a group of 13 in such a small cafe, we were chatting amongst ourselves and enjoying the evening out, however the owner was less than pleased. She continually apologised to the two tables who were also dining that evening on behalf of us for our 'behaviour'. She continued to this throughout the evening, and wasn't even discreet about it, however, not once did she ask us to 'keep the noise down' which would have been difficult anyway in such a large group. If there had been such a problem of hosting for such a large party plus smaller groups at the same time, she should not have taken the booking, and if bring your own beer is such a problem...get a license!!It ruined the entire evening for us all and I will certainly not be returning.

This place is tucked away in Ecclesfield. Quite unassuming from the outside but the minute you open the door you are greeted with 'Bonjour' from the lovely Christine who cannot make you welcome enough. Whilst only small, it is perfectly laid out and the waiter was very attentive bringing me over a ramekin of salty crisps to nibble on whilst reading the menu. The menu is short but mouthwatering with a specials board with soups etc. I opted for the slightly curried chicken open sandwich and a coffee. The coffee was gorgeous and shortly followed by my sandwich - the word sandwich does not do it justice - it was a meal. Michelin star presentation with some gorgeous garnishes and dressings. It tasted as good as at it looked. I will definitely be returning here - only worry is word gets around and I will never be able to get a table!

So glad we found this little place. The food is absolutely top notch, everything tastes so fresh and almost homegrown/organic. Christine remembered us from our first visit a month earlier.. My boyfriends second name is French and she told him how to pronounce it the correct way..something he never knew before...and as it was quite late in the day was advised honestly there wasn't much salad etc left as she had been absolutely packed. However, it was still plentiful and the salad that did come on the side was as good as something you would order on its own! Even after this, Christine gave us a free slice of cake to take home as we didn't get a 'full meal'. (Recommend the Lemon Drizzle cake )We haven't yet sampled the tapas night etc but will be at our first opportunity. I'm so glad this little cafe is local. It doesn't surprise me in the least that's it is always busy... I can't fault it one bit. Can't wait to return with my friends and family.

Le Petit Cafe in Ecclesfield has added greatly to the quality of life locally. We've lost many useful locally-owned shops which have been replaced mainly with non-shops - apart from Le Petit Cafe. This welcoming and friendly place has become a community hub. It's tiny, with a French menu and ambience, and a laid back style. Christine, the charismatic owner, supports local cake- makers and their produce is many and varied - and delicious. Coffee and cakes, light lunches; evening occasions (book ahead: always full) include tapas, bistro nights, and wine & cheese evenings. Once a year a special Bastille Day event with French quiz. It's now my local and I visit several times a week. [ Whilst you're in Ecclesfield, visit the Church (earliest mention 1141) with its Saxon and Norman traces. ]

I visit this gorgeous little cafe every couple of weeks with friends. The owner always greets you with a smile and you immediately feel at home. The decor is very French, and you could almost be in a little cafe in Paris. The food is delicious and such good value. There is always something different on the menu, usually Mediterranean inspired. The cakes are to die for, and presented beautifully, I love the rose and rhubarb cake. We are sampling the tapas evening next week and we are really excited to see what's on offer. I love this cafe, it's by far the best cafe in the area and I would certainly recommend it to anyone. It is wise to book if you are wanting to eat at lunchtime or if there are a few in your party.

I have passed this little cafe many times whilst driving home, always promising myself I would call one day for a coffee! Today, that occasion arose, after a trip to Ecclesfield Park with my grandson this morning, we called for coffee and cake, what a gem of a place. A warm welcome from the proprietor Christine, made all the difference. a huge selection of home make cakes were to be had, the rhubarb and rose is well worth a try! Coffee was good too! At last we, at the north side of the city have a coffee shop worth visiting! Well done! I wish you continuing success.

My parents and I have been several times in the daytime for tea and cakes in recent months. They are always delicious and beautifully served. The new rosewater and rhubarb cake we tried recently was gorgeous. My husband and I have also been to both the Friday tapas and Saturday bistro nights. The food and atmosphere were excellent on both nights. As a fish but not meat eater, my food needs were catered to wonderfully. And with no corkage charge, the value for money is amazing.Christine, the French owner, is warm and welcoming. We had booked the bistro evening for my husband's birthday and she had him a surprise (to both of us!) birthday cake made, and even shared her wine with us when our two bottles ran out! We're looking forward to the cheese and wine evening we've booked for May, but in the meantime I know I'll be in again soon with my parents for afternoon tea.

Today is my 21at birthday & I visited the salon next door. After which I stopped for coffee & a sandwich at Le Petit Cafe with my mother. We both had the cafe-tier for two & the coffee was delicious. As a 'coffee master' for a large brand I found the coffee very flavourful & it hit the spot perfectly. I had the Croque Monsieur and salad & I can honestly say it was the best toaster I've ever had. It had a lovely chive mayonnaise on & the salad was fresh & the dressing was very tasty. I followed my meal with the very tempting Cappucino cake. It was do light & fluffy...I could face stuck my face in it & I could have followed with another piece! Each cake looked wonderful & they're all hand made. The service was very quick & efficient & you could see the lady chatting to regulars, she even wished me a happy birthday & said if she'd known she would have popped a Candle in my cake! I'm definitely taking my mom to one if the cheese & wine nights & ill be going again shortly - very lovely atmosphere & you can't complain at the price!

We had the ribeye steak and one of the burgers and it was INSANELY good!! Can't believe how reasonable the price is for such fantastic quality food. Service was fab, they were friendly and chatty and accommodated any requests with the meals. Can't wait to go back soon and try more items on the menu. Definitely a hidden gem in Sheffield!

I regret not taking any picture because I was way too shocked when the food came. Came following recommendations from a work colleague. I knew from the reviews the portion would be massive. But I didn’t expect it to be THAT massive. Like others said it came with free garlic bread and chicken wings (both rather nice). The snails starter came with more garlic bread. I ordered the steak tartare which looked like they tipped a whole pack of supermarket £5 mince meat on a plate. It came with even more garlic bread. To my shock another giant trough of mixed veg arrived (think old fashioned Butlin style roast dinner side veg). We had so much food for two people it couldn’t fit on our table. It genuinely felt like the chef never went to culinary school and had no idea how much food a person consumes. It would have been fine if the food was nice. Partner ordered the duck in orange sauce. We got two giant slaps of duck breast buried in gravy, served on top of…a plate of McCoy crisps. I never thought I’d see something like this outside of a Gordon Ramsey kitchen nightmare show. The duck tasted like that duck in orange sauce dish from a Chinese takeaway. Any pretence of French-ness went out the window at that point. It was a rather nice Chinese takeaway duck though once I stopped pretending it is a £20 main course from a “French” restaurant. The seating was very cramped. Music was too quiet we felt like we had to whisper. It only took cash or bank transfer despite the visa sign on the door. The waitresses were trying their best though. If you are an old fashioned meat and two veg person who has never tried French food, you might enjoy this place. As a foodie who wants to try authentic food I wouldn’t go back.

Cod & Chips takeaway - very poor quality of cod, more batter than fish. Such a shame and disappointment - and it’s not a cheap option! Plus only takes cash (!)
