This one of my favourite places. The wine list is extensive and delicious the food is limited to a small number of carefully chosen options - sharing platters, salads and a selection of delicious tarte flambé. It is very popular, especially at the weekend. I would recommend booking as it is a small venue. The staff are lovely and will always try and accomodate you. Gluten free options are available!!!

Excellent service and delicious food. From start to finish the service is amazing, happy and friendly staff. Always had excellent meals and lovely atmosphere. Can’t wait to celebrate my 30th here 🎉 From delicious food to fresh smelling lilies in the bathroom then you have come to the right place! Also to note the wine flights are a wonderful pleasure ! Love supporting local restaurants and appreciating what we have on our door steps!

Platter of excellent quality cured meats, a mediocre list of basic wines while an excellent list of wines served with Coravin. The place is welcoming but the negative point is the owner's service: few words, not very helpful and not very kind in his ways. We also bought a bottle to take away and he gave us the one for display stored vertically.

I was treated to an amazing tapas meal on Monday evening! I am gluten and dairy intolerant nothing was to much trouble..Sam even adapted the menu to suit me! The wine was the best so much choice by the glass! 👍❤️

We had an absolutely lovely experience, at Le Clos, a real gem of an establishment in Wallingford. Everything was spot on and we love the decor. We tasted three wine flights in total, the sparkling rose, the Italian and then followed up with the desert wine flight. Each glass complimented the fabulous meal perfectly. Can’t wait to visit again soon.

Quality and quantity with outstanding service and attention to detail. We were blown away by not only the size of portions, but how fresh the ingredients tasted. We learned Le Clos will also use ingredients brought in from France for some of its pastries. If you are lucky enough to have a chat with the owner, Stephan, you'll learn how passionate and knowledgeable he is of all the food and wine served here. The man gives more than he gets, and in many ways our experience here has made us see him as an artist as much as he is a restaurant owner.

We had such a great meal at le clos. The tarte flambé is so delicious and something I’ve never had before. The charcuterie board was piled high with meats and the service was friendly and helpful. Loved it!

Stephane and his team made us so welcome on a very cold Monday night. He coped with a coeliac vegan admirably. The food is so delicious and the wine wonderful.

Visited the week before Bunkfest and had amazing wine, food and service, came again during Bunkfest and the staff were again very accommodating, friendly and helpful, great jazz, great wine, great food… chapeau x

Staff are polite, helpful and ALWAYS go the extra mile when we ask if we can sit inside and have food so we can enjoy the wonderful atmosphere including live music. They are hugely popular and often busy so book well in advance. I am also delighted that people that aren’t willing to buy their wonderful food & wine and aren’t courteous to the staff of a thriving and popular small business might decide to take their business elsewhere.

Such a great venue! Whether it’s during large local events (which you must Pre book for as it’s so popular) or just a weekday evening glass of wine, we find the staff super friendly. Great choice of wine, and the food is fab! Always opt for a flambée. Highly recommend.

Staff were rude, unhelpful and eye rolled at us when we asked if we could sit inside and have food so we could hear our friend singing live. Wouldn’t serve us at the bar because we were ‘crowding’ the bar so lost our business.

I’ve been 3 times now, so I thought I’d write a review. I’ve always turned up on spec and found the wine and food to be lovely, but somehow I always feel unwelcome, like it’s a bit of a pain to have me (or us), there. I’m going to try again, maybe I’ll have a better experience if I book….

We enjoyed great food and wine, excellent service in a beautiful environment. I highly recommend that you visit. A lot of effort goes in all they do and have done in le clos. The design shows the extent to which the owners have gone to provide an excellent environment, with elegant music to serve good wine and delicious food. It is amazing to be able to taste such fresh sea produce in Wallingford, as if you are by the sea. It demonstrates how much attention to detail goes into what they offer here; delicious seafood (& land produce actually (but we did not try)). It is interesting how a detail in a dish, can make all the difference to how it delivers in your mouth, and in le clos they do this very well. Although we travelled to test the waters, we will go again, it is well worth it.

Staff were attentive and unobtrusive. The food was good quality. Wine flights (several options) was a great idea! Good atmosphere overall Tables were packed pretty tightly. And the starter came after the main.

Today I had to change my lunch reservation to a takeaway. As ever, Stephane was understanding and provided exactly what we asked for. To crown the experience he remembered our favourite wine with which to wash it down. Fabulous food again, the king prawn and avocado salad is utterly delicious. Go, you shall not be disappointed.

I like this place alot and would recommend. Very friendly staff, well priced food and veggie options although stat away from the courgette and tomato flat bread thing. But I would recommend the wild garlic and the charcuterie board.

The food is good and the wine list is very comprehensive. The food is organised as sharing dishes of around £9 + each. The idea is to order a few and then mix and match. Two of us, so we had 4 dishes, and that was enough. French classics with other choices. Foie Gras was fine... Not better. Salads delicious. The French owner comes across as being a little terse in that Gallic way... But service was generally good. Two very pleasant glasses of wine each with the meal but the bill at £85 still felt a little steep for what we'd had. I'll go again, but it's a 4* just, pulled up by quality of food.

What a great treat for a Friday lunch. We booked with our host Stephane the day before. We turned up on a rainy day in Wallingford and we were warmly welcomed into this bijou wine bar. It reminded us of our experience at the Vintage Wine bar in Athens. The Alsace “pizzas” and charcuterie plate were delicious and the Loire wine was perfect. We accompanied the main dishes with a wonderful salad. The service and food were just impeccable. We would really like try this wonderful venue in the evening. It will require an overnight stay close by - watch this space. We will be back !

Incredible wine list, delicious Tarte Flambée and great hospitality!

Visited one Sunday after a leisurely walk along the Thames. We had booked and were given choice of sitting inside or outside in the little lane. As it was hot we decided to sit indoors. Fabulous menu, simple yet loads to choose from. The main attraction were the Tarte Flambes which is a French thin pizza. Being hungry we went for one each but this could have easily shared two between three of us. We decided on the Gratinee which was cheesy and deliciously garlicky and two others which were on the specials board. One was asparagus and tomato while the star of the show was the wild garlic and pesto, absolutely gorgeous! Accompanied by a simple tomato salad it was divine. We washed it down with a beautiful French Riesling, slightly dry and utterly refreshing on such a hot day.We had desserts too!Wine list is to die for, mainly French and you could have a different bottle every week there were so many to choose from. I remarked to the owner that it was a good job I didn’t live close by otherwise I would be in here every week!Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Lovely little place, cozy and friendly

Great food and a superb wine list. Decor is simple and uncluttered. Waiting staff were excellent although the owner is a little surly. Would have given it 5 stars if he was a little more friendly and smiley!

We were looking for a place to meet up with our son and daughter mid-way between Hampshire and Birmingham. Oxford would have been the obvious choice but we didn't want to go to a city, so chose Wallingford as a nearby alternative. We chose Le Clos on the strength of their Tripadvisor reviews and also that they offered a range of vegetarian options not just the token 1 or 2. We had never tried Le Clos' speciality Tarte Flambée before so were intrigued. Although superficially pizza-like, it is to pizza what goujons are to fish fingers. The razor-thin crust and use of creme fraiche, pesto aspargus and fromage blanc amonst other ingredients elevate the dish to a more refined plane. Don't get me wrong I love pizza and fish finger sandwiches (not at the same time), but when going out to eat I want try something different from what's available at home. My son and I shared the charcuterie board, while our vegetarian family memberss did the same with the Mediterrean board. The charcuterie board was delicious with a range of high quality cuts of continental hams and salami together with artisan bread, butter cornichons and cherry vine tomotoes, although the quanitity meant it was perhaps better suited to 3 sharing than 2.

We enjoyed a fabulous Saturday night at Le Clos. The food choice was vast and everything we tried delicious: Tarte flambe, charcuterie, fish rillete and cheese. The wine flights were perfect, the staff polite and attentive and the ambience spot on.

We weren’t booked in but Stephan squeezed us in and I’m so glad he did. We had a beautiful meal with a bottle of champagne to enjoy the start of our staycation honeymoon! Frambes are beautiful and sharing platters (we had charcuterie) probably the best I’ve had. Just wish we had longer to sample the great selection of wines they offered.

We've been missing our visits to le clos during lockdown so we were excited to see the raclette takeaway being offered. It's no substitute for a visit but it's excellent nonetheless!

Tarte Flambé is wonderful.On a Sunday night we wandered past and noticed it was open. We had seen good reports, but needed to try it out.Firstly, the wine here is good. Great choice and something for every palate (and wallet).We ordered Tarte Flambé to try. It was Superb.If you haven’t had one before, think thin crispy pizza but with Creme Fraiche instead of tomato sauce. The base was light and crispy- think of a water biscuit, but larger. I’d suggest one per person.When we moved to Wallingford, we bought a take out. Again really good.Since visiting, I’ve tried making Tarte Flambé, but can’t get the base as good as this even in the pizza oven. If you have the option - go! You will not be disappointed.

This has to be our favourite place to go for an informal bite to eat in Wallingford. Usually need to book as space is limited but the service from Stephan and his staff is always great, casual but attentive. Not too expensive for lovely food and a wonderful selection of wines. You have to try this place if you haven't already.

Eaten here on several occasions pre-COVID and then had takeouts during the challenging times of the pandemic. Food is just superb. The flambes are a particular favourite and the continental meats always high quality. It’s a great place to come for a relaxed informal atmosphere with friends and enjoy the food, washed down with a delicious bottle of French wine. The pandemic has hit so many businesses and Stephane and his teams ability to adapt to the circumstances and come up with delicious good value takeouts, delivered to your door (or more recently collection, as trying to keep the restaurant open) is to be commended. The raclette, in particular, was a master stroke! Where else, outside France, could you get a take out like that?! It’s was absolutely delicious. Loved it! Hang on in there, Le Clos, it will get better!

I visit Le Clos regularly and it is by far the best location in Wallingford for food and wine. Stephane is the most friendly and honest Sommelier I have met in the UK and we will continue to support this most excellent of venues.

Delicious & reasonably priced. First time we’ve ordered from Le Clos & would highly recommend. Treated ourselves for anniversary takeaway dinner with charcuterie board, flamkuchen & bottle of wine. Yum yum yum 😋

We’ve been coming here since they opened up and have never had anything but a positive experience. Food is always delicious and we’ve tried most everything on the menu. Wine is of course fantastic and the staff are friendly too. Love supporting this fantastic business in our town.

This is my second review of Le Clos, the first being a while back when the world was a little more normal. Over the course of the covid lockdown Stephane has been going the extra mile with delivering top quality food & wine to peoples homes as they’ve tried to ride out the lockdown nightmare. The quality has always been first class, the service excellent and the choice wider than you’d expect considering the business is running on a skeleton staff. In venue the experience is even better - the knowledge of the team on wine and food is second to none and we’ve enjoyed several visits with family & friends over the past couple of years. They truly are that something a little special that you look for to move away from the ordinary and I highly recommend a visit.

Stephane and his team always go above and beyond to make our visits memorable! The food is fantastic - we dream about it after we leave! And the wine/ champagne is always exceptional - we love that we can enjoy different glasses or bottles depending on who we are dining with, the season or just our moods. Le clos is a regular for us and we feel blessed to have such a passionate wine and food connoisseur within our area!

Since Stephane opened in Wallingford I have been able to indulge in a regular treat of a proper tarte flambee and a glass (or two) of really good wine. Service is always friendly, courteous and incredibly good at introducing me to new wines. During lockdown they have adapted and provided deliveries and takeaway, keeping my Friday evenings still a little bit special and very safe. I recommend my “happy place”to all my visitors when they come.
