Just got pea fritter and chips the lady said go careful it hot but it wasn't the peas were stone cold and the batter was raw won't be going there again

Got cod and chips from them. The chips were terrible! Not properly cooked and soggy. Had to recook in the air fryer and too much bother to return them. The quality has definitely gone downhill.

Joke of a place spent £5 on lunch waited 15 mins and walked out only ordered a cone of chips and a sausage. Better off going without

Was trying to show case your crispy cod to a friend, but it was soggy this time. Still taste great and i will let you off this time.

Delivery was quicker than anticipated, but the fish and chips were nearly cold and they didn’t seem fresh. It was like warmed up left overs, very disappointed.

It was warm good quality food. They forgot an item but they bought it with 2 extra free items for the mistake and their deepest apologies, couldn’t have ask for a better resolution. Quick delivery time, good food, good service, couldn’t ask for better, thank you

The food was cold and the quality terrible. The fish must have been left over from lunchtime and the sausages you couldn’t cut them they were so hard. The chips were soggy and undercooked. What a waste of money.

Best chips in Woolston! They’ve overtaken tasty plaice by far! Not too expensive and great tasting.

Ordered on line arrived late and cold. Tried to get a refund made some excuses about not being able to refund on my card?? Have used then for a couple of years standards have dropped will not use them again

Still waiting! Almost 2 hours since we ordered. Not given a refund when we asked and told TWICE the driver was 5 minutes away!! If you can do it, don’t offer deliveries!!!! £20 down the drain as have had to go out now!! 😡 UPDATE: never did receive the food and NO REFUND!! Steer clear folks!!! 😡😡😡

Usually never have a problem but today some of our order was missing it was 30mins late and when I called to ask where our order was I was told it would be at least another 30/45 mins.what a joke 😤😤😤again a complete mess up over an hour ago i ordered and still 1.40 still waiting and was told no refund coz the delivery was out and it would be 5 minutes. 25 minutes later still waiting absolutely disgusting service

food again was cold I have used this fish bar on a few occasions was ok to start with but the last few times have either been late or the food was horrible and cold so stopped ordering ! tonight we thought we would give it another try bad move food was awful and again cold had to microwave it so won't be ordering again quite sad really as at first the food was lovely.

Used to be a regular here but for some reason the food has gone downhill plus items seem to be missing more often than not overall not the greatest of chippies anymore

Chips were soggy so was the onion rings nothing was crispy the fish batter was stale and the best thing was the curry sauce everything else was poor quality and I waited just over an hour for it just to be disappointing was very hungry as well which makes it all the more sad thanks but no thanks normally good from this place but tonight was a different story

Raw chips. Awful saveloy. Ordered a pineapple fritter and received a pea fritter. Cod did not taste much like cod perhaps as it wasnt very fresh🤢 Will not be visiting here again especially as there are other options locally. Disappointed customer 🤮

Chips only just cooked with a fair few still firm in the centre, pea fritter was awful, obviously kept hot a long time as black on the bottom , fish cakes really squidgy and fell apart

We ordered last week and unfortunately found multiple short black hairs in the burger box and upon the burger itself. The chips themselves were pretty decent, however, the hair situation really put us off completely.

What’s has happened to this place, 7 years I’ve been coming in, the new management was okay for a bit, but this has to be the worst fish and chips ever.. batter is from frozen bought and the chips are still cold inside.. you can buy better at Lidl and make at home…

Fish was very over cooked. Very small piece aswell. The batter was so crispy you couldn't eat it. It's a shame as we always order from here and a good regular customer but it's disappointing tonight. Chips were nice.

Medium cod and chips cooked while I waited .Very good.

Chips were horrible. Went back and they replaced the chips and gave a free can of drink. However the chips were still just as bad. First time trying and wouldn't be going back.

We look forward to our occasional treat of Saturday fish & chips, with curry sauce from here. Sadly we are now looking for alternative chippy☹ Our "treat" was ruined this weekend. While the fish was a good size & cooked well, the portions of chips looked pale & unappealing. We tried them anyway, but shouldn't of, they were hard, pale & tasted awful. The bacon cheeseburger, was rather sorry looking too, bacon & burger could be cooked better. We've never had such terrible chips, they went on the bin. So cod & curry sauce for dinner then. So disappointed as we love chippy treat, but not wasting money here again. Shame

Ordered a fish and chips cod couple of months back, and it was delicious. Just repeated the order today and it was a terrible experience, the coating is not edible and taste terrible. Not sure if it’s a one time issue but would definitely not try my luck there anymore

Just had large cod & chips tonight, very disappointed cod was not fresh at all and the batter was terrible think it was frozen not fresh!! Chips were pale and some still raw in middle, altogether a trip to the waterfront with fish & chips disappointing ! Won’t be stopping there again , should Av got a hint at how quiet it was for a Saturday, beware!!!!!

I’ve been here about 10 times now always spur of the moment ( I love my sausage and chips )and travel the country in my job, and this chip shop is not the best I’ve ever come across but very very good for portion size and value for money ten out of ten , service is really good there on it like sonic , useing the proper fish and chip boxes I really like it here , and I read the other reviews I think there really unfair , if I have bad food or service I’m the first to kick off but I been here 10 times not one mistake or bad food perfect every time

If I could give zero stars for food quality I would absolutely foul I ordered fish and chips and it was foul it smelt off and left a nasty after taste I literally threw up in my mouth I would avoid they clearly don't cook there fish fresh daily what they served I wouldn't serve to an animal let alone a human

Sorry but the chips were dry and hard, not crispy, just hard, the curry sce tasted of chemicals. Like they made it in a tub that still had washing liquid in it. Normally very good, my one treat a week, very disappointing

Once called Lawrence fish and chip now with new management (again) and still named GOLDEN FISH BAR. 10.07.23. very dry fish in greasy dripping burnt batter, chips dry and limp. Sausage very dry in teastless batter. 🤔 I would not recommend this once brilliant chip shop, that now has no stars , if Google review would let me 😳 After eating some of the cod in batter/chips the wife had a funny tummy and ended up going to the toilet 🥴😱

Usually order fish and chips which are so good but fancied something different. Rang the shop as delivery was taking an unusually long time but was told the driver was on the way, perfect ! The driver arrived a while later and I’m not sure if our order was forgotten and thrown together quickly but it really wasn’t good, my bacon cheese burger was the saddest part 😂 will try again though and hope that this was a one off, unfortunately most of the order went in the bin 👎🏻

Chips today were very disappointing and quite undercooked

First time using this shop and I'm impressed. Cod cooked perfectly. Chip portions are huge. Even the bread roll was perfectly fresh. All delivered by a nice gent in 35 minutes. Cash accepted on delivery. As Arnie said, I'll be back!!!

It's a shame as the chip shop before "Lawrence" was outstanding and they should of used the same oils

Portions are really big even when you take medium cod with normal size chips. Kids menu is available too and it's big :)

The chips were soggy and the battered sausage which I ordered was really dark and meant that the oil was old. I won’t be going back their again.

Food was very early and not everyone was home yet so it wasn't as fresh as it could have been when we ate it. We ordered a specific time as that's when we would be ready to eat but it arrived 45 mins before. Food was nice, really big portions. Chips were a bit pale but would order again - just not for a specific time slot.

I come from Netley and there is a chip shop in Netley but Golden fish bar is always my choice always fresh Juicy fish and the chips are perfect love this place, best fish and chips in Southampton I highly recommend this place

Fish overcooked. Chips were dreadfull, lots of soggy little bits, very few were over 1 inch long. Previously the meals have been very good except on one occasion. I am reluctant to purchase from you again.

Delivery was late today but food was lovely... hot and plenty of it.

Used this chippy for the first time and it won’t be the last. I’m really fussy when it comes to chips and the sausage meat but it tasted amazing and freshly cooked. I was served by someone named Ali who was really happy and an asset to the shop welcoming everyone with smiles and laughter. Will definitely be returning

Nipped in on a spur of the moment thing this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised at the level of service which was very good. I just got a large chips and a couple of pickled eggs (guilty pleasure) but was very impressed and will definitely go there again. Top marks

Perfect ...but not quick enough

Appalling, avoid, avoid, incompetent beyond description. Never ever got our food could not find us, unbelievable.

Presentation was lacking on their normal good service. Food wasnt hot and portions small.
