We pre-booked a table at The Lavender tea rooms for a traditional afternoon tea. The food was delicious and huge portions - we each had our own cake stand. We were unable to eat it all but we're provided with boxes to take the cakes home in. My daughter has a nut allergy and was catered for with a wonderful selection of different cakes. The tea room is in a courtyard with an outdoor seating area which would be wonderful in the warmer weather. The tea room was extremely popular while we were there with a steady stream of guests, they also sell cakes to take away. Thank you to Tony and his staff who were very attentive, we will definitely return.

Travelled from Sydney Australia to spend a few days with my mum. She wanted to try this tea room - it looks very cute and cosy. Sadly, the staff were rude. My sister inlaw led the way upstairs to look for a table. I followed, only to be shouted at by a staff member, “Hey! Excuse me! Where do you think youre going?”. Sheepishly, utterly embarrassed with the entire ground floor looking at me, i turned to see an angry faced man behind the counter who repeated his question. My description here doesnt do the embarrassment justice. Our 7 member group left the premises. Tail between our legs. Wont be going there again - there are many other options with nicer staff.

Stumbled across this fantastic tea room late Saturday afternoon with my partner and two friends. Staff quickly found us a table. We had drinks and fantastic pastries. Service and surroundings were top class. Nothing too much trouble. It’s in a small courtyard off the main shopping street. Don’t hesitate if you’re in Bakewell. We will definitely be back.

Myself and 3 friends visited The Lavender Tea Rooms on recommendation from other friends - and we loved it. Trevor the owner is such a smiley friendly and most welcoming host. On walking in, it was clear to see how popular the Tea Room is. A very personable young man - Josh, served us, he was brilliant. We each chose something different from the menu - the sandwiches come in simply gorgeous thick cut bread - very generous in their contents served with a salad dressing and crisps. One of my friends chose the scone which she said was really lovely. The Tea Room is tucked away in a quaint pretty courtyard so make sure you don’t miss it you’ll be glad you found it

Came for lunch with my mum on a busy Saturday. We had egg mayo/ham & cheese sandwiches which were really generous portions, we each got 3 large sourdough sandwiches with salad and crisps. We then had a piece of cake each (which are also big) to enjoy at home and they were delicious - especially the mocha! Such a lovely little tearoom and will always visit when in Bakewell.

Amazing cakes and drinks!! We all had either traditional Bakewell tarts, cherry Bakewell tarts or scone with cream and jam and they were all amazing. We ordered coffee for drinks and cloudy lemonade which was amazing. We sat outside in the courtyard in the sun and it was perfect. Great customer service too!

Me and my husband first met Trev when he accommodated a small wedding day afternoon tea. He went above and beyond to make our day comfortable and special. We only had our children and my parents attend the day so we didn’t take too much room and Trev still arranged a private area upstairs, took photos for us and even added extra touches to our small wedding celebration. It’s safe to say when we visit Bakewell (2-3 times a year) our MUST stop is at The Lavender Tea Rooms! Trev and Karen do their upmost to ensure quality food and drinks at reasonable prices with a welcoming environment. Thank you for your lovely hospitality. Sarah & Ant xx

What an absolute gem of a cafe. I've been today for my daughters birthday, and they delivered again on service, food, and quality. Even turning up an hour early wasn't an issue as they were so proficient. Can't praise them high enough. The lad behind the counter even knew my wife's first name by just talking to her. Now that's professional. 💯 fantastic Gem. Thank you for a lovely afternoon tea.

2nd time visit for afternoon tea and didn’t disappoint, we had one traditional and one deluxe afternoon tea and was able to request a few minor changes which was appreciated. All the sandwiches, cakes and scones were of a generous portion and also very tasty, of course we couldn’t eat it all but could have it boxed to take away. We really cannot recommend the Lavender tea rooms enough! One of the highlights of our trip for sure, they were so friendly and accommodating. They helped us fulfill one of our dreams and the afternoon was phenomenal. It was everything we hoped it would be and more and now all we want is to return and do it again! Food was yummy, tea was delicious, I fell in love with one of the loose tea holders so they went out of their way to find one for me so I could bring it home. I have had to try to recreate the sandwiches at home for our own afternoon tea since we have been home. They are good but still not the same. I bought bags of their loose leaf lavender tea for gifts and now I wish I could order it shipped because I am all out! Just an all around great time and lovely place.

So we asked the lovely lady who served us ,what the difference between Bakewell tarts and Bakewell puddings were and she explained with patients and a smile, even though I think she could buy the moon if she had been given a pound for every time she had been asked. We booked ahead for an afternoon tea on a Saturday, we had travelled to Bakewell just for the day, and this was a lovely afternoon tea. The drinks and sandwiches were lovely but the tuna could have done with an addition such as cucumber. The scones were beautiful and light, and there was a lovely selection of cakes, however some were a little dry and the coffee and walnut cake didn’t taste like coffee. Despite this, it was very good value for money, and could take home any food not eaten with fresh clotted cream and extra jam.

I couldn’t possibly describe to you the brilliance of the entire entity. From the incredible communication when booking my wedding afternoon tea and planning, to the incredible service received on the day. Truly an exceptional example of hospitality at its finest. The team and the owners made the day full of warmth. From the surprise balloons and card, to the beautiful wedding corner they made for us to enjoy on our own, truly stunning. My children were made so incredibly welcome that my two year old daughter requests daily for us to go “to that wedding place with the jam jars” Have I mentioned the actual food yet? Tbh, I would go there for the service alone. But the afternoon tea was honestly the best I’ve had, completely rivalling and outdoing the ridiculously overpriced ones I drag my husband too. The portion size is so generous that I was able to enjoy the afternoon tea for two days afterwards. Which was helpful, as that was exactly what I wanted to do seeing as it was delicious. It was pouring with rain and we were extremely lucky to get a table for 2 just inside the door as someone left.Service was good, we both had a sandwich (one on gluten-free bread) which came served with a small salad and crisps. Portions were large and we began to think we would not have room for cake, but we forced ourselves (and it was definitely worth it)! I think these Tea Rooms should advertise their gluten-free offerings better - we were surprised at the range they had, which was not apparent to us until the waitress explained everything that was available.Sadly we didn't have time to have an afternoon tea as we were only in the area for a few days. Firstly this tea room was excellent value for money with 16.95 giving us each a pot of tea and considerably more than we could eat in one sitting. They acknowledge the large spread and gave us boxes for the food we couldn't eat at the time. Secondly we have multiple allergies all of which they were happy to cater for. The chef checked with us with what she was preparing to ensure we were happy with what she was preparing. The gluten free scone was delicious, large and stayed together on halving it and spreading cream on. I tried the lactose free cream which they made in house and it was delicious too. We booked ahead and got a private room upstairs which was lovely. The staff were well protected with visors and masks. Although their cramped work spaces made socially distancing hard, they were patient and calm and waited patiently to get into their spaces. 10/10. They should definitely create a wall of fame for customers that actually finish all items of the afternoon tea in one sitting.

We weren't sure we'd be able to buy a vegan bakewell in Bakewell! Coffee was strong and made with oat milk barista, which was lovely. It was relatively quiet but the staff kept busy. It wasn't entirely clear that the bill was to be settled at the counter, but aside from that, this is a lovely, bright little tea room and well worth a visit.

We are still full up from one of the best afternoon teas I’ve ever had! My husband had the deluxe and I had the vegetarian and they were equally delicious. The bread was fresh, the fillings varied, scones soft and the cakes...oh my...a lot of them and all so tasty. I am such a fussy eater with a strange intolerance and they certainly excelled here. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. To the manager who has created this beautiful tea room, well done. We wish you well deserved success! And to anybody reading this and visiting Bakewell, do try this traditional tea room. Highly recommend!

After a 3 hour walk the afternoon tea was a lovely way to re-energize for the walk (ahem...bus) back Lovely sandwiches (falafel wrap and egg mayo our favourites) plus scone and more than enough cakes for a couple of days went down very nicely. Also well done to the staff for dealing with a particularly rude customer full of her own self-importance who wanted to turn the tea room into her own personal conference room. I think my response to her would have been a lot less measured

So glad decided to indulge in a very special afternoon tea for my birthday. An amazing selection of cakes and sandwiches! Portions are huge so glad they let you take the left overs home. The staff are so helpful and friendly with nothing being a chore for themFelt a bit of normality in these uncertain times with staff and visitors all in masks and plenty of hand sanitiser available on each table. Will definitely be back!

WOW we were majorly impressed with the afternoon tea - we plumped for the luxury option and were so pleased we did. Sandwiches were delicious and the cakes scrumptuous. The portions are HUGE - the biggest and by far best afternoon tea I have ever had (and i've had a fair few!). There was no way we could eat it all and it was all boxed up ready for us to take home - we had a second afternoon tea the following day! absolutely delicious and we will definitely be returning on our return to Bakewell. Service was wonderful, friendly staff who couldnt do enough for us. A sweet charming tea-room with exceptional food!

We stopped by for a sandwich and scone, excellent and the afternoon tea on an adjacent table looked amazing !!!Lovely friendly service, tables nicely spaced inside and out this was a great spot for lunch. Next time would definitely pre-book the afternoon tea, especially as they give the option to box up anything you can't quite manage at the time :)

My friend and I went here in early September for afternoon tea, Their covid 19 rules were relatively lacking upstairs when queuing for the only toilet. But they had closed the seating area upstairs for this reason so that’s a plus but everyone had to walk past the tables downstairs, very closely to get upstairs. That aside, my friend had phoned ahead and asked for specific requests for the afternoon tea, she doesnt like raisins so asked for the scones to be plane and for there to be no Tuna sandwiches as neither of us like the taste or the smell. Unfortunately this was not what was brought to us. Both (huge) scones had raisins and we had tuna on our assortment of sandwiches. We also got mainly cheese and pickle. The sandwiches to cake ratio was off. There were few sandwiches and lots of cake, i love cake. Dont get me wrong but it was very unbalanced. The “clotted cream” for the scones was runny. But the scones themselves were so lovely. Once we had ours with no raisins. And the jam was beautiful too. The younger waitresses did not want to be there and although they were polite, you could tell its not where they wanted to be on a Saturday afternoon. The coffee we ordered was nice and quick and replenished when we were finished with the first lot. Overall the tea rooms were quick, cute and polite. The sandwiches could be improved upon as they were not great. if youre going to ask for any requirements then actually take note of them. As we felt rude asking for what we had originally ordered over the phone. Id come again if i was in bakewell.

Brilliant cafe set in a fab courtyard. Seating outside as well as indoors. Was great to get away from the noise and traffic. Very covid secure with each table having sanitizer. We had cake and coffee which was fantastic using locally sourced produce. Highly recommended.

We visited the tea rooms today to escape the rain with our 10 month old son and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us and were extremely warm, chatty and friendly. We had a gluten free cream tea which was delicious and were pleased we could find something to eat for our son who has multiple allergies. Would definitely recommend and visit again!

Visited today, lovely sandwiches. No children's menu available but we were offered smaller adult sandwiches for the kids which were a perfect size and they really enjoyed them. Sadly when it came to paying we were informed they were the exact same price as the £5.50 adult sandwiches despite being smaller Had we know this the kids could have shared an adult dish or my husband and I eaten what they couldn’t!

I visited these tearooms with my daughters on Friday 24th May. I have been to other tea shops in Bakewell, but Toscas is by far the best. We had afternoon tea for three of us, we sat outside in the court yard. The afternoon tea arrived and there was lots of lovely cake and sandwiches, beautifully presented, and our host friendly and gave us a warm welcome. We really enjoyed our afternoon tea, very civilised, we will defiantly be visiting again. In fact we will have a day out to bakewell just to visit Toscas .

Lovely venue for a mid morning brunch, limited seating but such a pleasant cafe.

Fantastic cafe, the icing on the cake (no pun intended) being the birds feeding next to the window. The staff are friendly and efficient and the the food is of a good standard and reasonably priced. I can't understand the few negative reviews, maybe some folk have unfeasibly high standards/expectations?

I was really hoping for the wholesome, home cooked food that the price tag promised. The bean casserole tasted like a tin of baked beans with a whole load of dried sage stirred in. The salad could have been bought in a bag at Asda. I won't be going back.
