Amazing Chinese takeaway, such lovely people who run it, amazing food, would highly recommend going!

Some of the best dishes I've had in Liverpool, especially compared to the price.

Nothing to hide...... It's run by portion extortion...... Probably the worst chippy in Liverpool.... Expensive and below average..... Ie ..... pound for a pea ..... Known historically..... Go to mei sum .....over the road .... x

Amazing Chinese food. Salt and pepper chicken, crispy chilli chicken, chow mein, you name it and this place has it. Great portions

Chips were reheats, dry and chewy and some hard and sharp. Bought 3 portions so complete waste of money. Shame, tried it because of its high rating.

Best chippy in south Liverpool for me as an all rounder never had a bad meal. Just a shame it seems to be constantly closed for weeks on end every couple of months!

Food is always lovely, best BBQ sauce around for miles.

Every Chinese dish tasted the same - bland with each dish in the same guppy bland sauce. The chips were really good so maybe they should stop trying to cook Chinese and just do fish and chips :)

Best salt & pepper chicken wings in the world! And my favourite Singapore Chow Mein! Although left the UK, I will always miss the food and the lovely family.

Smallish shop, but huge menu, and the chef produces really excellent dishes. Great value. Lovely family team makes you feel really welcome. They have earned their popularity.

Food not the same was told my meal comes with king prawns and they was not little tiny cheap prawns rice was very greasy quality of food was appalling.

Been going to Laus for years and never been disappointed with their food. Always hot and fresh. We don’t live on Smithdown anymore but still travel approx 10 minute drive and the food is always hot when I get home. We’ve tried Chinese chippys nearer home and are always disappointed so always end up returning to Laus.

Portion of chips wouldn't fill a saucer ... seriously for £1.30 would of thought more chips . Portions are small and dear. lovely food I hasten to add. Lost my custom

When you are working hard to earn money. And want a bit enjoyment and comfort from take away food. We ordered salt and pepper ribs. As you can see from the photo. Unsure as to what they sent us. It’s yellow in its batter and undercooked also. No seasoning of salt and pepper. The chips was also delivered in the same coating as the chicken not ribs. And was also cold and stale, not fresh as they should have been. Chicken in black pepper sauce. Chicken was so undercooked and as was the vegetables. It has made us both feel Ill immediately. When I called up to complain the lady on the phone was very rude and patronising towards me. Correcting me and challenging me at every given point trying to defend their business. A good hygiene inspection is definitely recommended to carry out recent checks on this establishment. I have written to just eat. I have written similar review to just eat directly also. It is disgusting behaviour guys. We are all working hard for our living.

Delicious food every time I order. Always hot, always tasty. Got sweet and sour chicken tonight, not the usual gloopy, sticky sweet sauce you get in other takeaways, this had nice peppers, tomatoes and onion and the chicken was really tender. Yummy.

I have used this chippy for over 20 years and they have always been good with the food, but last year they made my favourite dish with frozen chicken, you know the strips you get from farmfoods, well when I got it home the chicken was frozen so I called to let them know. You see when the students aren't hear they operate at a normal pace but when the students are hear they seems rushed, its not the only chippy in smithdown Road bit it's well established and I must say one of the best. But alas my food for the first time was frozen so I throw it. But you see the point being it was a large order for over 40.00 to pick up and he said 20 mins I had to wait over 50 mins, and it's been the same ever since they give you one time and when you get there your waiting longer and because there rushed they mess up meals missing ,meals half cooked and sometimes you got something you never even orderd. But hayho, I never went back until yesterday so it's been a few months, and again the same thing waited for over 50 mins after being told 30 mins for 3 dishes, when I got home the ribs where burnt, the sauce was something out a jar and the rice was over cooked with that soy sauce they use to cover up old and burnt rice anyway. So again I had to throw the ribs to the dogs the rice to the birds and also let me note the chicken smelt foul, so no more for me, I will find somewhere els to go, I also use wok and go on Lawrence Road also a popular chippy and food quite nice too no complaints there. I belive then a chippy gets busy they must become complacent, and they have god only knows what's happend to the chief, but the food is going down hill, and they have to remember the locals, we keep them going, but money seems to win all the time and they are in business, but if the quality of the food keeps going the way it is down hill, then the business will suffer, sad really because there really lovely people, it's the quality of the food that matters and compassion. It's fair to say I won't be going there again. I don't have money to waist. Many more good chippy to visit.

Friendly staff and excellent food

We were regular customers at Laus but after last night I will not be returning. When my mate was paying he gave them £20 cash for a meal that was £8.30 and the guy went to give him £6.70 change instead of £11.70 then claimed my mate only gave him £10 and we said no he gave £20 (because I got the cash out for him as he didnt have his card so I definitely know he gave him £20) and the guy was saying there was no £20 in the till, which isn't my mates problem as he gave the £20. So my mate was left with £1.70 change and they refused to give him the rest of the money. Then they said they will check CCTV and the guy carried on taking orders so we stood there waiting for the money, whilst his wife was checking the cameras. So I confronted them showing him my bank statement saying I got out £20 for him and we are regular customers so why would they not just believe us but the guy had attitude towards us saying to us "I don't see any £20 in the till". And they proceeded to carry on checking the cameras then a few minutes pass and they say "come in tomorrow and we will sort it out" which is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE, as if we have the time to be given the run around like that for money my mate was owed. Eventually, the guy's wife saw more sense than him, and gave us the £10. But the guy is nothing short of a disgrace, he knows we are regular customers and he was clearly being prejudice towards my friend because of his ethnicity. He just assumed my friend bare faced lied to him when he probably hid the £20 underneath the counter himself and it took them over 10 mins to give my mate the correct change he was owed. We used to go Laus pretty much every week that's why it was such a shock, but after that I will never be returning again.

These guys have been around for a long time and for good reason. Every staff member great, crucially this includes the chefs who create the best chinese food on Smithdown.

Yeah it's ok....but can vary ..chips no good unless immediately fresh ...salt & pepper chicken wings too ok when fresh but otherwise just sat and are extraordinarily dry. Plus little to nil salt & pepper seasoning/ chilli/ peppers included. Pleasant friendly Male serving ...but miserable and unfriendly female !

Googled "Best Chinese Takeaway in Liverpool" and Lau's on Smithdown Rd came up. So made the pilgrimage from Old Swan to Wavertree and bought Singapore FR, Salt & Pepper chicken pieces and Hot & Sour Soup. Portions were huge and it's taken me two days to finish it !! Five Stars and most worthy of it's title of Best Chinese Takeaway in Liverpool .

Absolutely lovely chippy. The food is honestly the best, amazing portion sizes and the food is always pipping hot. All the dishes we get are just perfect everytime. Salt and pepper boxes for two are AMAZING 😍😍😍😍 All the staff are such a nice family too. Best chippy in Liverpool.

Over rated in my opinion ,it was empty. I was ignored then another customer walked in and got served immediately, please just look up and acknowledge whom is waiting. Also the chips were dry and seemed refried old chips.

Chips warmed up, ordered vegetarian hot and sour soup just tasted like eating a bowl of sweet red sauce that you poor over your chips.... Yuck. Used to be nice chippy but gone downhill

For to know it is to experience it for yourself but alas I will attempt, albeit it in my naïveté, to describe this symphony of flavour to you today. For in this crisp time when autumn begins to fade, the chef finds the perfect balance of salt, spice, sweet, sour and umami that to this day haunts me with awe. Lau pairs this with a menagerie of meats, with such playful features as perfectly unctuous pork ribs, crisp spring rolls filled with still fresh vegetables that deliver a crunch of satisfaction with each bite, chicken nuggets unmatched with flavour and the humblest of Lau’s creations; the chicken wing. Lau, this god among men, this Promethean figure wrapped in a white apron has produced a refined classic so that God himself may weep upon its glory. So how does Lau round out this humble meal worth of a polystyrene container reminiscent of the Ark of The Covenant, both containing items too sacred for human eyes; with the Lord’s finest work; the chip. Golden in colour, fluffy in texture and all nestled under a duvet of delicious food, capturing every flavour Lau has to offer. And the spices, oh the spices, freckled on each chip as if they had all been given the individual love and attention you could only elsewhere find from a father and his newborn babe. But the heat is restrained. You experience the salty, delicious flavour of this without any spicy pain. I don't need any more pain. Hell, does anyone? I will say that my experience with Lau’s S&P box is always sublime and my treatment near that of a gladiator most decorated. In finality, I will state with complete certainty that this isn’t just a takeaway, this is God speaking to us through food.

Cash only (annoying) BUT apart from that the staff are so friendly and welcoming and helped me pick from there large menu. I like duck and hoisin and asked if they could make me a duck stirfry with vegetables and a hoi sin taste to it and wow was it amazing. huge portions as well AND CHEAP! cost me £7 for a can, a huge portion of egg fried rice and the duck stir fry. They also do a collection buffet style deal on fri-sat for £5.60. this is definitely my new local! cannot wait to go back!

Crispy beef Kindo sauce very nice, portion of chips - not a standard portion! Very small tray, also dry and not nice. Salt pepper chicken wings dry and appeared to be re- heated/fried not juicy. Wouldn't go back again.
