Laurel House in St Albans

Another fantastic meal at Laurel House. Everything was absolutely delicious. The kids all had burgers which they loved and I had chicken which had an excellent peri peri kick! The chips are amazing!!

Lovely restaurant, been here many times and the food is always spot on, comes out looking all fancy. The chefs always the same consistency when it comes to the look and taste of the food. Have tied many dishes and can’t choose which is my favourite as they all are 5 star. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for fancy halal food without the fancy price tag you would pay in london! My children enjoy this place also and they are fussy!

Exceptional food. excellent grilled chicken with salad and the best chips I have ever had. Fantastic burgers and very low prices. I haven't tried the kebabs and steaks yet because the chicken is so good I always have that but I'm sure they are the same high standard 10/10 The service is excellent and very friendly. Thank you

This place is a Solid 10/10. I had lamb and halloumi wrap which was very very good, and the chips were also exceptional. You will not find better value for money in St Albans

Enjoyed the service and food at the laurel house in Hatfield road St Albans. A warm welcome inside, nothing fancy in the decor dept. Food served in a good time, but found starters and the main i chose on the small portion size. Ok for me but not a big eater. prices reasonable.

Absolutely delicious food and fantastic service. We really appreciated the care the owner took to accommodate our son’s food allergies too. Thoroughly recommend it and we’ll definitely be back!

The food in Laurel house is freshly cooked by skilled chefs . The meats, burgers and hand cut chips are amazing and we are always party content after eating there. It doesn’t serve alcohol but we don’t mind as are happy during soft drinks or mineral water. The prices are extremely reasonable and service always warm and welcoming. There is a good childrens menu too. It is a great place to eat out as a family as you will all eat well and not break the bank.

It’s always great to visit this place. The food is fantastic and really good value and there is always a nice and inviting atmosphere. Skip Nando’s and try this!

I’ve been eating here for years now and never had a bad meal. The food is always freshly cooked and very tasty. My kids also love the food. The menu is nice and simple which I think improves the food quality there’s no food sitting around for a long time. The owner is very friendly and helpful and always wants to know our opinions on the food. I Highly recommend this Restaurant You won’t be disappointed.

As title implies the restaurant is quite on the small side, you can hear other people's conversations & some customers can be loud, which made it hard to talk with my family. Food came a little late but was served hot & was worth the wait, very tasty & rich in flavour. I've had food from around that area & most of them taste very similar but here it was quite different, food was full of flavour. Won't let the loud customer keep me away from going again.

We stayed in St Albans and Googled halal restaurants and this turned up. It doesn't look anything special but we definitely didn't regret choosing it. Quite setting and friendly customer service. The food was presented like it would be in a high end restaurant and taste was even better. Defiantly try this, I'm confident you'll have no regrets.

You can tell everything is made fresh to order! Chips are incredible! Friendly Laid back service. Good value for money. Only issue is they don’t seem to have consistent opening times, often closed and food is freshly made so if you’re in a rush it might not be ideal.

Laurel House is essentially defined by good, honest, hearty cooking done by a hardworking chef and owner who appears to be creative and willing to go beyond the call of duty to please his customers.Whilst we were there, we witnessed the good rapport he had with them - some of whom he knew and others, like us, who were made to feel special and welcomed.He definitely knows how to make a mean burger too. The burgers are one of the best in St Albans; underpriced compared to the quality of food Ghani serves at his place. The hand cut fries are great! Don't just go for the looks, the food is fresh and 10/10!It has been my go to place for burgers in St Albans for around 2 years, other places might look fancier but they don't have this level of food!

Great food. I visit here every couple of weeks. Never had a bad meal. It’s small and casual with pleasant staff.

We stopped here for a quick lunch based on great TripAdvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. We had the chicken wrap - very generous portion that had loads of flavour. Chicken with flavour is such a rare occurrence these days it is worth praising when it happens! Also the chips were lovely and not greasy. Yum! What a find! We’ll be back often I reckon!

What a gem of an eatery this place is. Lovely decor enhanced by seriously good food at ridiculously low prices, the price quality ratio is just amazing. Presentation and taste were immaculate and the service from the chef and waiter were near perfect. So what’s the catch - a cold beer would have made the evening perfect but alas no alcohol

Bye Nando’s, hello Laurel House!This is my fave chilled place to eat in St Albans, with a restaurant/cafe like style you cannot go wrong for a lovely lunch on the weekend! I’ve been here twice now and highly recommend the spatchcock chicken which is huge!! You’ll definitely have leftovers! The calamari and chicken wings are also fab! Can not recommend this place enough

This is a gem of a restaurant. With so many restaurants on such a busy road, this restaurant can easily be overlooked.The staff are friendly. The food is simply amazing. Care is taken to prepare each meal. Food is beautifully presented and everything we ordered were full of flavour and tasted really nice. Price is really reasonable too.If you have not been, you must give this place a try.

The food is soo delicious! And the service is so welcoming and friendly, the proprietor so engaging!The only thing my family and i have to say the restaurant could do with a face lift to make it stand out! We just happened to stumble on this little gem and i feel it is even better than lebanese or med grill places we would always go to prior to this! Love love love this place

This place has become a weekend dinner favourite amongst my friends. For the price, the food and service are very good. Nothing fancy, just good food and a friendly proprietor, who comes over to chat with customers.

as i said to the person who served and took my bill, if I was local I would have been a regular! My order consisted of:Chicken Wing (Starter) - if you are a fan of wings then you MUST try this place. The flavour was spot on but more amazingly it was cooked to perfection! It literally fell off the boneChicken Steak with Chips (Main) - simply delicious! The fries were handcut skin on fries. These were very tasty too! Normally I prefer 'skinny' fries but it was nice to have something different!Service was just simply on point! While being there i could tell the staff make a real effort to build relations with their customers, it almost felt as if they were all very close friends/family! It's difficult to get such quality food and service as I witnessedOverall I would definitely recommend a trip down! If you're local you need to try this! Honestly a perfect Sunday afternoon meal...The Chicken Spatchcock is so good with perfectly seasoned Fries and tastes amazing. Great Portion and Great Price 😍😍😍

I ordered the Espetadas chicken skewers after seeing the great reviews on this place. Very disappointed as the Chicken was dry aswell as the chips being very much over cooked to the point there was no potatoe left, it was just oily crisps. Although this was disappointing, the chips that were salvageable had very good flavour. Will try order from there again on the chance this was a one off

We had the platter. There was four of us, two adults a 12 and 4 year old. Everyone enjoyed it. I don’t like peppercorn sauce and the chef changed the sauce.... it was amazing..!!! Freshly cooked, tasted home made, very filling and great value for money. Only thing toilet didn’t have a working lock. Definitely go back tho... food like this is hard to come by

This is our 3rd visit and as always the service is very friendly, the food is amazing and the price very reasonable.The children adore the Chicken Peri Peri. I both the mixed espetadas and the lamb shank.If you have not tried eating at Laurel house, it is a must. Highly recommended.

First time I went here. What amazing food. I had the Portuguese espetadas and chips. Soooo tasty and chips are soooo good. Definitely will come back. Dying to try the chicken and burger which look amazing. Also super affordable not expensive.

This was our second visit to Laurel House after throughly enjoying the first meal. All the food is bursting with flavour and leaves you wanting more. For starters we had the chicken wings and then for mains we had the half Peri Peri chicken. I recommend the Peri Peri half chicken which is delicious and very tender and it tastes especially good with the seasoned chips you can order with it. The service is great and we feel very welcome whenever we go. The owner is very friendly and is always there to greet you when you arrive. I definitely recommend you visit as you won’t be disappointed.

This is a small restaurant at the end of a row of shops on the main road and you can easily miss it. There is easy parking (1 hour limit during the day) on either side of the road.The restaurant is nicely decorated, modern and clean. The service is friendly. The food is really nice and the price is good for what you get. The presentation of the food is superb.My wife had the mixed espetadas. The meat was tender and tasty. The chips is home made and it is really nice (as you can see from the picture). Golden in color with skin on. I am not sure how it is cooked, it is not greasy at all.I had the lamb shank. It was very nice. A bit too much for me.This is a great restaurant. I will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

I don't think I've ever had such well cooked chicken before. the portions are excellent, the quality is stunning, and the home made sauce that sits on the table (don't make the mistake of thinking its ketchup) its unbelievable. If there is one thing i can recommend, its the Wings in goats cheese sauce, with just a splash of the table red sauce on the side.I went here thinking its "just another chicken shop", but i couldn't have been more wrong. This is genuinely excellent, professionally cooked food.

The person who was serving ( i think was the owenr aswell) was reallly lovely. Food portion was amazing. For 4 ppl including drinks we paid 34 pounds. The place was clean and tidy. It was a small resturant / takeaway. we had a great time. definately will come back again.

There people really care about food! We had the spatchcock chicken. Really well presented, very tasty, lots of it, and especially loved the sauce that came with it. Good value for money too. Very impressed.....

Decided to give this place a whirl following five star reviews on TripAdvisor.Our takeaway was very poor. Humus and pitta were nice, tiger prawns OK but "Estepadas" skewers were dry and bland. Many of the accompanying fries were stuck together meaning untouched by oil where they joined.Average at best. Our one-and-only time I suspect we will order from here with such strong competition nearby.

Popped in for lunch today with a friend. The Manager showed great hospitality, a wonderful host - made the experience there phenomenal! Food was just as amazing as the service. Presentation of food was spectacular. Loved it! Definitely recommend it, was delightful - planning to return soon.

My friend and I decided to go somewhere we haven't eaten before. So we decided to come here. In all honestly wasn't expecting anything amazing ,thought it will be like any other place. I was so so wrong. The interior was so pretty.The food was absolutely divine!Such great value for money. The food was presented beautifully. The service was honestly the best I have ever experienced!!!!!He was very kind, warm and welcoming! Honestly was so sweet! This is officially my new regular place! Cannot wait to come back and try something else! Cannot recommend this place enough!!!!! I feel like a lot of people have overlooked this place- it's truly a Hidden gem!

We stopped here for a late lunch last week - and what a fabulous find! The friendly chef is passionate about the food he prepares as everything is freshly cooked to order, well presented, authentic and absolutely delicious! We shared a Calamari Salad (which was superb with a tangy orange and lemon dressing) and followed this with Lamb and Chicken Espetadas. The skewered chunks of meat were tender and full of flavour and we enjoyed the chilli sauce and chips. A pot of freshly brewed Mint Tea was the perfect accompaniment to our meal. We can't wait to return!

Me and my partner found this little place after reading reviews of healthy restaurants. When we turned up we were just expecting an average meal as we fancied the healthy grilled chicken and mixed grill options on the menu. When the food arrived we were extremely surprised, it was presented incredibly well and the home made and hand cut chips are probably the best chips we have ever had. It turns out the owner has worked in many top class London restaurants which explains the quality and presentation of the food. The prices were incredible, amazing value for money. If you are in the area and want a great burger or some grilled meats then you need to check this place out. Make sure you get the chips too, you'll see what I mean when you try them!

We had 1/2 peri per chicken on the bone and a mixed grill delivered This came with the excellent chips, rice, salad with dressing. Really fresh. We will be ordering again and would recommend.

I've walked past this place for the last 6 or so months and gone to other places on hatfield rd.... Which I now regret!!Stopped in on Saturday and we had great food served with a smile! We shared humus / pitta, then one of us had the spatchcock chicken with tarragon sauce and the other a lamb and chicken skewer. Both with hand cut chips.... All this and drinks for £20! Bargain! Probably the best chips I've ever had! I'll definitely be back !!

What a find! Went in here on the off chance after a quick trip advisor search! How have I not been here before? The food is just lovely. We had a lamb esplanada with rice and a chicken one with chips. The lamb was still a little pink and full of flavour from the marinade and the chargrill. Cooked to perfection and lovely and tender. The rice was flavourful and complemented the lamb well. The chicken was succulent and also full of flavour. The chips are simply the best I think I've ever had.This place is great and possibly the best kept secret in St Albans.

I did visit the restaurant for the second time.the food is absolutely divine. For me it is the best grill restaurant in St Albans. Especially if you are after a halal option. I will give a 5 stars.

Laurel House is simply put, the best place to eat in St Albans. I frequently visit and the food is nothing less than delicious every time. You can tell that everything is very fresh, carefully prepared and seasoned and cooked just right. The chef is also a wonderfully friendly man who always greets you with a smile.

I went to Laurel House when it first opened, the food is delicious. The chips are homemade with the skin on, the chicken burgers are the best.I work in St Albans and have tried so many places for a quick lunch/chicken shop and this place is by far the best. The owner is very friendly and clearly very passionate about the food, you won't regret eating here! :-)
