Being coming to Lanna Thai for years as the food is fantastic!

Great food cooked fresh, had a few starters, wings, ribs and fish cakes which were very tasty and great portion sizes. Masaman coconut prawns and beef ginger and peppers coconut rice and noodles both were very good and great portion sizes. Staff friendly and efficient. Happy to return and recommend 👌

Visited on Saturday night after booking a table in advance, on arrival the manager was very rude to us and had a very bad attitude as our booking was at 9pm and she said they closed at 10pm even though it says on their website they’re open until 10.30pm we were made to feel very uncomfortable fortunately the food was tremendous could not fault it.

Very relaxed atmosphere and the food is superb.

We've eaten take away and sat in. Never been disappointed. Authentic Thai food, big portions at an affordable price.

Always order from here as they do amazing GF options.. Im celiac and the gf options have always been safe .. highly recommend

Definitely not best or great thai food. Tasted like any *Chinese* take away dish . I was hoping for some thai twist / taste that Im not able to cook myself at home but there was not even any sauce ( aubergine stir fry which had only few slices of aubergine and some random veg which wasnt even listed in a dish description) sea food salad made out of frozen ingredients which would cost £3 to make at home. No point of going out for a meal if you can easily make it yourself and its not great tasting. Waitress not very pleasant. We came here as were visiting this town and this place have veggie options . No vegan marked options on the menu

A very good restaurant, authentic Thai food , plenty of it, and very well priced. I can't recommend it enough. Nice,friendly atmosphere, one is not rushed, and the Singha is lovely and cold.

Restaurant was very cold, I had to sit with my scarf, coat and gloves on, it was perishing. Ordered a red Thai curry, the sauce was a magnolia colour instead of the usual red colour. Very sickly, sweet flavour and not very spicy. Lady was very nice who served us but no friendly chat.

Went with a group of 9 friends for a pre theatre dinner. Food was served in plenty time, was delicious and we all enjoyed it very much. Will definitely go again. Just wish it was open at lunch time.

This is a great little restaurant, the food is well prepared and tasty. The staff are lovely and friendly. I got to know one of the waiters Eugene, who is deeply missed by many regular customers.

Absolutely first classs. Busy wee restaurant catering for hungry locals. Faultless food, I had the spare ribs followed by chicken green curry and jasmine rice. Good sized portions but, more importantly, deliciously cooked. Bill was more than reasonable. Will definitely be back

We just popped in for a bite before going to the theatre. The food was good and the service friendly and efficient. We all liked the atmospheric music which was relaxing and unobtrusive.

A great variety including most dishes available with meat, seafood, vegetables or tofu. Vegetarian starters and set meal options. Tasty food. Great service, reasonable choice of wine and beer, including Thai Singh's beer.

"Why is a restaurant using a curry paste I buy at the supermarket?" We didn't appreciate the food and especially didn't like the mean customer service.. so Lanna Thai gets a full review. We really love to support local business and make effort to always review positively, when it's deserved... I did ring the restauant before ordering and tried to discuss the order, I asked about the dishes being cooked "Thai style", the woman said that "Western style" was "richer" and the curry was "thicker" but was reluctant to discuss or, recommend any variations to the dishes and so the conversation ended. This should have been a red flag. 🤙🚨 We ordered 4 main dishes with x2 sticky rice, which we collected for takeaway, came to approx £45 The Good: - The drunken noodles (Pad Kee mao): was good enough, it had little bit of warmth, the noodles stuck together, but was quite dry compared to the stirfried/streetfood dish as it's known, but the flavour was good 👍 - Spicy basil stirfry (pad kra prow): the quality of the beef was good, it was richer and sweeter in flavour than we had eaten before & very mild in flavour. We still enjoyed it. It would suit any palate. You will like this if you really like Cantonese chinese cuisine. - The sticky rice was typical & very nice, alas, if only we had curry to go with it.... The Bad: - Green curry and the "chef special" duck curry. These were so sweet, they would have made a good cheesecake filling. Both curry dishes, like PUDDING. We barely had started tucking in, and we decided we couldn't eat the curries. Insipid flavour, overcome by sweet. Hold up tho, we didn't just sit on keyboards and complain about the food afterwards, without giving them an opportunity to discuss it with us. We walked a mile from our accomodation and returned the curries to the restaurant next day. We would have gone sooner, but collected at closing, they were closed by the time we finished with our meal. We asked for a refund (only) for the two curries. We got an awful response when we went back, which is why we voted 1 star for the #NegativeDrama 🎭 The unexpected: Hot day, back kitchen door was half open to the street, i had a view into the kitchen. I recognized two pots of the same, very popular brand of Thai paste that I use in the UK, on the work station. In Thailand you can buy homemade, very, very good curry pastes by the half kilo at the local market. It confirmed our experience that they cut corners, sadly. The Customer service: My husband returned x2 curries in person the next day, he went in by himself to discuss the food, he was generally pleasant and diplomatic about the food, explained why the curries were not enjoyed or usual of our experience of Thai cuisi at all. That should have been enough. But she argued. And argued. #1 argument made, "this *was* Thai style". Although over the phone when we placed order, "Thai style" was discouraged, we accepted to recieve the order how they usually cook it "Western style". Thai food is a balance of salty, sour and sweet. This was not "Thai style" #2 She raised her voice and then tried to deny a full refund for the curry because we had sampled the green curry, a 1/4 of sauce was gone. In a very accusatory tone "YOU HAVE EATEN SOME, ITS LOWER" Hey lady, we really tried to like the dish before we both agreed it was not very nice and left it. The (much more expensive) duck curry was still full when it made it's return journey to where Thai food goes to heaven, except for a spoon or two. #3 She demanded both our names, we don't know why. It was so extra and intrusive. She remembered me from the phone call I had about the food. My husband hates confrontation and that's why they get one star and ruined a birthday celebration. The food was 2* at best. I've been home cooked for by, and dined out with, Thai friends from Thailand living in the UK. The food is always bright, balanced and punchy, this is what I've been accustomed to eating, and it's my favorite. This food did not live up to the reviews or our expectations of Thai food.

The best Thai in Edinburgh! Me and my partner eat here all the time. She is coeliac (gluten free) and vegetarian and is so spoilt for choice here, nearly all their dishes can be made gf and veggie, they really do cater for everyone!! Cannot rate it highly enough, the prices are good, the food is amazing (the yellow curry is a must) and the portion sizes are huge!

Delicious food and lovely service.

We were visiting the theatre across the road so after checking some reviews we popped in. The decor is 1970s but clean , tidy with decent toilets. We got a warm welcome and we’re soon seated with our drinks. The food was fantastic . We shared a chicken platter to start and all ordered different mains. The red curry I had was superb. The bill for 4 including soft drinks and wine was only £73 which was very good value. Highly recommended 👍

Had sweet and sour chicken dish. Not impressed, chicken tasted weird, like tofu? Was recommended by a friend but not impressed!

This is most definitely one of the best Thai restaurants I have ever dined in. The food was delicious and plentiful. The waitress was very busy but managed a quick friendly chat each time she attended to our table. If we visit Musselburgh again we will most certainly be visiting the Lanna Thai again. Highly recommended.

You are always assured of a warm welcome from the friendly staff. A great place for pre-theatre dinner or family gatherings. A wide selection of traditional Thai food as well as western dishes. A small selection of beers.

Quality food my family enjoyed eating there

First meal with wine since lockdown started, and Lanna Thai did not let us down. The food was superb, the service first class, and the table spacing was Covid-safe with an empty table between each table of diners. Even though it was my choice of restaurant I had forgotten how good they were, until I tasted the food. Can't wait to return.

We love eating out as a family, but we have never tried Thai before due to lack of restaurants where we live. This was a lovely little find and we enjoyed eating here. Food was delicious and service 1st class.

Just had a takeaway from Lanna Thai must admit its the best takeaway we've ever had it was well worth the money it was amazing. We've been in the restaurant before and it was really good usually i find the takeaway not as good but i would recommend this

We tried delivery for the first time as a birthday treat and were so impressed - the food was really fresh, large portions and absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend the sweet potato starter, duck red curry, coconut rice and even the chips were amazing! Will definitely be ordering again and can’t wait to visit the restaurant when we can.

No idea where the good reviews for this place came from. Maybe our terrible food was cooked be a substitute chef but even at that the ingredients weren’t fresh. Soggy veg and chicken that must have been battery farmed and fed on old tyres. Had to ask for chopped chillis as the curry was milder than a bowl of cream. Most disappointing meal for a long time.

On Tuesday of one week the manager denied my driver the use of the restaurant's toilets. Five days later the same man wouldn't let us stay under cover from the rain 'cause the law is we must get out'. One of our company was an 86 year old dementia sufferer with stage 2 heart disease. Thanks a lot for chucking us out. As he passed us out the door, he shouted 'wankers'.

We had a delicious takeaway last night, it was ready for collection right on time and was still piping hot and fresh when we got home. Gluten free options were clearly marked making it easy to order. The leftovers taste even better reheated for lunch today!

Wonderful restaurant that I highly recommend. We received a warm welcome from the staff who were friendly throughout. The restaurant has a nice vibe to it. The food was delicious, hot and full of flavour.This is the 3rd restaurant we have ate in in East Lothian as part of the dine out to help out scheme and it has been the best, by quite some way!If you are able to make it to this little gem you won't regret it.

My wife and I had the set meal for two and cannot fault it. Every course was delicious and the service was excellent. The starter was a nice combination of prawn toast, spring rolls and spare ribs. The soup that followed was a meal in itself, so the main course was almost unneeded! We couldn't finish it so they kindly made it into a takeaway for us.We were there during the covid restrictions and felt comfortable that they took all necessary precautions.

My partner wanted to go here, but I ain't been since I was a kid and could barely remember it. I was very pleasantly surprised. The service was exceptional, the food delicious and it was value for money too. The presentation of the food was superb. There are plenty of choices on the menu and I will definitely go back here soon. I would highly recommend this place.

Food was lovely staff frendly a lovely place to eat

Authentic Thai Restaurant, no way !!! This was the worst Thai food we have had in a very long time. My wife had a Pad Thai meal.... you can get a better one from Marks & Spencer’s. It was if the dish had been stewed and it was bland. I had a Sweet and Sour Chicken, the sauce was like water.... and the food was very bland, oh and one piece of pineapple. I lived in Asia for many years including Bangkok so we know what is good Thai food and what is rubbish and this was rubbish. The rice was ok, but it would be hard to mess that up. I think the chef needs to get some cooking lessons.

Lanna Thai, is a small very traditionally decorated restaurant, friendly efficient service, what i'll definately come back for is the food. Mixed platters to share as starters were varied, filling and tasty, the Soup hot and sour with king prawns was just delicious! The main I had of chicken cashew stir fry was really nice but I would probably try one of the many other dishes next time. Excellent value for all the courses, 2 bottles of wine, worked out at £25 with tip per person. It wasn't packed but there were a steady stream of people coming and going on a Monday night!

Excellent, food is outstanding!!!

The starters are really tasty. We had coconut cream soup with king prawns and hot and sour soup with king prawns for starters. The main dishes are delicious too. Red curry with king prawns and hot green curry with king prawns too. The staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend it.

Food great. However meals need to be served all together. 12 people served drinks before us and we arrived before them. Need to be more organized.

Has went down hill, disappointing food.

Most people wouldn't give this restaurant a second glance but they'd be foolish. OK the decor is a bit plain and could do with brightening up. But apart from that the food is second to none. The menu is very good the prices are very reasonable and the staff are very friendly. I had the jungle curry which was top notch no complaints at all. So basically if you are in Musselburgh and you fancy some real authentic and tasty Thai food then give it a visit i certainly will be doing when I go back in may

You could easily pass this place without giving it a second look but if you do you'd be foolish. OK the decor isn't up to much but the food is second to none. If you like a bit of spice then the jungle curry is out of this world. The service is very friendly and i will be going back when i am on holiday next year brilliant just brilliant

This wee restaurant is amazing! The food is so fresh and flavoursome. Try the veg platter and the Cho chee curry is amazing. Often quiet though.so use it or lose it! Great service and nice atmosphere.

Fantastic food made even more enjoyable by the staff that cannot do enough for you! We have eaten here lots and lots of times and still go back even though we live 30 miles away! We have only used the takeaway service once but the food was still of the highest standard.

Second time I’ve been to this restaurant now and it really has delivered on both occasions. It’s simple decor shouldn’t detract from the outstanding quality of food that it produces. Everything that has been eaten has been superb quality and highly authentic (and I’ve traveled to Thailand on numerous occasions so feel able to make that statement). Price wise it’s mid range although substantially cheaper than the Thai restaurants in Edinburgh city centre and none of them are as good as this place. Genuinely would advise any Thai food lovers to visit.

We were staying in Musselburgh for one night before heading south. We were looking for somewhere to eat - most places seemed to be shut! However we came across Lanna Thai which didn't look that impressive from the outside however service was good and the food was fantastic - really lovely. I had chicken Satay and then the Pineapple curry with prawns but asked if they could make it slightly more spicy than one chilli. This was no problem. Very tasty meal - my partner had soup - delicious and then Barbecue Chicken thighs. We both had rice. Portions were substantial without being too much. Would definitely eat here again if we lived locally;

Lovely place, great food but suffers from noisy environment due to the size of the table area.

Just had a really lovely meal tonight. Food was beautiful and portions were huge! We had chicken and cashew nut stir fry and beef & basil stir fry, then ice cream and banana fritters. Very reasonable prices, came to £32. Service was excellent. The staff are so welcoming and friendly, but unobtrusive. It's a cosy restaurant with a really nice atmosphere and nice decor. If you are looking for something nice to eat in Musselburgh, I would definitely recommend Lanna Thai. It's superb!

Again a lovely meal here , we are never disappointed ! It’s a quaint place and gets busy sometimes , which is nice ! Service is lovely and friendly , food is enjoyable and so far no complaints .

Very disappointing take away. Basil stir fry was more like a tasteless stew. Pork was cheap and tough, husband's tofu version wasn't any better. Stewy veg and the jasmine rice was just plain boiled rice. Fish cakes and chicken satay for starters were tough and chewy. Won't be returning.

The restaurant was busy (Saturday at 7pm), so we were asked to come back in 20 minutes. I'm so glad we did. We had a Thai Green Curry, Massamam, rice, crackers and a Pad Thai. Needless to say, we left totally stuffed. The food was gorgeous. The service was great. I really enjoyed it and I can't wait to go back.
