Lambtons Restaurant in Wiltshire

Staying in The Bear Hotel, breakfasts are taken in the Lambtons Restaurant. As frequent travellers we rated breakfasts here as one of the best. The portions are enormous, made using first class ingredients and served by a lovely efficient and welcoming waitress. Highly recommended.

Rather underused during the nights we stayed. I felt it lacked atmosphere but the food was OK. Service in the Bear is always excellent though. We heard the franchisee for the hotel had changed recently so this may explain the variety in the ratings.

Booked for dinner in lambtons restaurant for Saturday, the menu was just about right, not too many dishes to choose from, but some very interesting, choose spiced grilled salmon to start followed by pan fried chicken which my partner had, while I went for roasted rump of lamb, we both had breaded banana for dessert, the whole meal was presented perfectly, the restaurant is very well laid out, tables with nice white tablecloths, you do not get that in many restaurants, in our opinion this is the place to dine in Devizes, this is fine dining at it's very best.

After trying dishes in the recent Food Festival went for dinner with 3 friends. Really excellent cooking, and good service, but people of Devizes, Use it or Lose it! No one else there.

Staying in the Hotel a few times, and breakfasts here in Lambtons are very Good. Had the odd niggle, but on the whole great quality ingredients friendly warm service. Eggs any way always properly executed and fat rashers of bacon are top quality. Mushroom is more like a steak! I was disappointed with the small kipper fillet ( I was expecting proper poached kippers) and on another visit half a sausage was very crunchy! But these were small things considering the quality of other elements and the nice open dining room. Staff are efficient and friendly and breakfast dispached without a fuss. Very Good

This is part of The Bear Hotel kin the market place in Devizes. We have eaten here a few times and have always enjoyed it. Do book or you will not get a table. We will return.

Delicious freshly cooked breakfast with perfectly poached eggs. Lots of choice, quality fruits, yogurt and juices etc and very good service from neatly turned out staff. Lambtons is the perfect venue for a business breakfast if you don't want to risk disappointing your guest!

We have used Lambtons over the passed many years for dinners for two or a few and for major family affairs for 30-40 folk. The food has always been top rate and the service, under the control of Paul, truly excellent - Paul is also a super wine selector and one of the best front of house men, we have ever known. BUT Paul was not there today as we went for Lunch for 4. This restaurant, on todays showing, whilst serving us super meats and excellent starters, has slipped off the high pedestal upon which we had it placed. Here is what was different from previously:- 1 No welcome person and no early attendance at the table, which we selected ourselves. 2 No wine list offered and one was hard to find when asked for 3 The central display, always covered with desserts and fruit in the past, was empty, covered with whites sheets and before we left, was being loaded with jam pots for breakfast - pre 3pm 4 No bread until we asked for it 5 Stale roast potatoes - at least a day old and warmed - they spoiled our meals and we commented. Here is what was still super 1 The meat - we all enjoyed top quality meat properly cooked. 2 Well cooked vegetables 3 Good starters and good desserts 3 Nice wines Fundamentally, it seemed to us that this restaurant was no longer a priority with the owners - it seems to be slipping into an "OK" place, offering service from the 1970's. We still had some vegetables on our tablecloth, whilst we enjoyed our last course. What a shame. Lambtons was a shining light of a near formal restaurant service in Wiltshire.
