Food here is lovely. Especially the soup and jacket potatoes which are made in a proper potato oven. Cakes are also to die for with a range of gluten free and dairy free. Prices are low but quality is high

Lainey’s has been open about a month and has already become a favourite with us (and by the footfall when we are there) with many other locals. Unlike many such new establishments it is obvious that the owner has a previously wide experience in catering. She offers a great basic menu but is willing to make adjustments to cater for a variety of diets (and even fussy, vegan foodies such as ourselves!). She is always cheerful and welcoming and has obviously become a firm favourite with the local businesses nearby, because lots appear to buy take-always from her. Her establishment offers a cosy, bright little place for those wanting a nice place to sit, people-watch, chat with friends or read a book while enjoying her tasty delights. All the popular basics are on offer: soups, filled jacket potatoes, BBQ chicken wrap Bacon bun, Sausage pasta, Potato skins, sandwiches etc. but she will also cater for Vegans with home-made hummus, beans etc. Gluten-free is also an option. Her coffee has now been deemed by us as the best in Whitby (and we are very fussy re coffee). It is also very well-priced. She obviously keeps her machine well-cleaned, because the coffee is always good. Most places vary (unclean machines!). A variety of teas are also available. She offers a host of delicious cakes (some gluten-free/vegan etc) to accompany coffee/tea. Home-made jam graces some of the cakes. I hesitated about actually posting this review because it will probably mean we won’t be able to get a seat as soon as others find it via this website; but Lainey (presuming that is the owner’s name) deserves success, so here it is. Her pricing offers unbeatable value in otherwise expensive Whitby. I recommend without qualification!

We stumbled across this place whilst wandering around the old town. It’s near the swing bridge on Grape Street Small menu so we tried most of it - everything we had was great. Loved the kimchi dumplings and the sushi. The bowl of delight which I forget the name of was delicious as was the sweet chilli chicken. All freshly cooked and tasty! We will return to try what we missed!! It was very reasonably priced, friendly service and can’t recommend enough.

We accidently discovered this cafe while hunting around Whitby for something more "homely". The staff were very accommodating for our party of 7. They ensured we got seated and looked after us all the step of the way. The food was plentiful, tasty, and very reasonably priced. There was a good selection that suited both adults and children. If you want to avoid the mass of marauding tourists and seaguls. Take a stroll up the hill to Stokers.

My wife and I visited after seeing a sign scribbled on a chalk board during the day. It's an innovative little pop-up based in the vaults under Scarborough Market Hall, where there are craft and vintage shops by day. Manned by owner Paul who is very knowledgeable and chatty, we were treated to some superbly kept wines in a quietly informal atmosphere. It's a far cry from the hoi-polloi and bustle of Scarborough drinking holes, and one which must be prized. Top work, we'll be back.
