La Zia Maria Pizzeria in Thanet

We ordered a takeaway from here on Saturday night. Margaretta and a seafood one. Both were cooked to perfection and we had garlic bread as well, which perhaps was a little dry. The staff were friendly and the restsurant clean. Added bonus it has a gin bar opposite and thats where we waited for them. We would go back.

We ordered a delivery from here. It was delivered on time, it was still hot and it tasted fine. A few more toppings wouldn’t have gone amiss. Enough leftover for breakfast though.

We were passing by and popped in for a late lunch on spec. We received a very warm welcome and this great service continued throughout lunch. The pizzas were authentic and absolutely delicious, and they also served a lovely Aperol spritz. The staff were great - very friendly and attentive. I agree with other reviewers that this is right up there with the best restaurants in Broadstairs. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this pizzeria. It was also very good value for money.

Splendid food and service at a good price. Eaten in many of the Broadstairs restaurants this is up there with the best. Will be back soon

Have visited on a few occasions now and tried a good few things from the menu. Everything is consistently good as is the service. As per the title not just pizza but pasta, risotto, salads also fish pie, mussels and various fish and meat dishes. Lovely side dishes and starter and dessert options also. Great for couples, families or groups

The food was fabulous, i had lasagna and my wife had the vegetable cannelloni and both were piping hot, tasty and delicious with a crispy top as both were cooked in the pizza oven. We will definitely be coming back and not please do not think this is just a pizza restaurant!!!

My husband and I went here today expecting to have a pizza. We have shared take-away pizza from here before and really enjoyed it because it was authentic. When we arrived we were surprised to find a well presented, clean restaurant with a view of the sea and a full menu. We both had pasta dishes, followed by tiramisu and warm lemon tart. The atmosphere is great with Italian music playing. So much more than a pizzeria! A hidden little gem in the back streets of Broadstairs. Reasonable prices and so worth a visit. We will be returning.

What an amazing menu with lots of different types of Italian food it has lots of fabulous option to choose from pastas and risottos. I had the linguine seafood and I must say it was the freshest food I’ve had in broadstairs. They also have a excellent service as well.

The food is very good indeed but with only one waitress on Friday night the service was painfully slow. We had booked a table and arrived in time. Ten minutes wait to take our order and a further 40 minutes before the food arrived was unacceptable.

We haven't been back to this local pizzeria for some 8 yrs so to be fair we popped in for a lunch. The staff were most welcoming and the Italian chef looked like he knew how to cook a decent pizza. The place was buzzing with foreign students from the language schools so a quiet table wasn't possible.There are many competing eateries in town serving Italian food so we were hoping for stand-out pizzas that we had yet to find in the area. We didn't find it here sadly. The dough bases were okay but the ingredients were cheap tasting, crucially the cheese didn't taste of good quality. Being fair to offer discount to it's large number of student customers something has to give. Doubtful we'll be back.

We were the only ones in there (we ate very early on a Wednesday evening) but boy was it good. We have walked past many times saying we will eat in there. Tonight we did, it was good. Pizza base crisp and good toppings good. We weren’t disappointed.

Being unable to get into Prezzo we followed google maps to this lovely authentic Italian pizzeria just off the main st. We couldn’t have been made more welcome, especially my boys, and the pizza, Prosecco and ice cream were were fantastic- will definitely be returning.

Having been here dozens of times over the past 5 years, we can honestly say that every pizza has been perfection! The service is super friendly too. Will keep returning for as long as possible.

We love this pizzeria but, since being vegan, we hadn’t visited as we know the menu off by heart. However, we went there this evening for dinner and as all the pizzas are freshly prepared in front of you, it was easy to request a non-dairy vegan one despite it not being on the menu. Italian dough base with tomato, mushrooms, spinach and artichoke - delicious! Always excellent and so pleased we can resume going there, we’ve missed it! Fantastic food and so friendly.

Popped in for lunch, was apprehensive as no one else was in there at the time but I was soon out straight. Great staff, smiling and helpful, great tasting and reasonably priced food. No to get a latte that’s hot these days rather than warm like many pls es do. Very happy, will go again if we are ever down this way again.

We always make a point of having a meal here whenever we visit my wifes sister in Broadstairs. A family restaurant . The food is always excellent particularly the pizzas. Lovely friendly staff.

Visited on a busy Saturday night but fortunate to get the last table. We had the starter platter to share and followed by Pizza and salad. Everything seemed freshly prepared and cooked and was full of flavour. We finished off with two coffees. When the bill came the coffees had not been charged for, because we had a wait for the food.

We went for fathers day treat. The pizzas are delicious and you can watch them being made. Recommended

Wood fired oven.Normal rage of toppings on offer, but very nicely done. More of a cafeteria than a restaurant and has sometimes peculiar opening times, but good quality pizzas.

Without doubt the best pizza I've ever eaten. I've just realised the difference between pizzas I eat regularly in chain restaurants and the real thing... honestly a million times better! Friendly service, comfortable seating and pleasant ambience. Give this one a try... you won't be disappointed.

Era la noche del viernes y parece que tienen la última mesa libre en este pequeño restaurante. El menú es pequeño. Pizza o nada. Así pedimos pizza! ! La pizza era buena - hay abundantes de sabor y coberturas. Lo que era un poco irritante...

Mi esposa y pasamos un par de noches en Broadstairs, una noche en la taberna griega y la otra noche gratis. Nos dirigirnos a prezzo pero elegimos este restaurante pizza porque parecía a pasado. Siendo un jueves por la noche, éramos los únicos en (excepto un par de conseguir llevar) pero sin embargo lo disfrutamos. El personal era atento sin ser quisquilloso, y el interior es acogedor y bien iluminado.

This place does only Pizza and nothing else but what it does do is produce excellent pizzas to suit all tatstes and very good service - only too willing to please including toppings for pizzas.Not the cheapest but overall good food.Need to book to stand a good chance of getting in since its not very large.Lovely Ice Creams courtesy of Morellinis should you so desire- I did and it was really delightful.

As an Italian , I know what pizza should taste like. And this place does. Great food. Good staff. Better than the chain pizza places hands down.

Enjoyable Pizza "Quattro Stagione". Although I think, that anchovy should be with the pizza, without ordering as an "extra". Nice but expensive pint of Italian Pilsener. Anyway, service is very good, food too. We enjoyed our visit.

We arrived early evening after a train ride from London for a weekend away. We were not disappointed! We began with the house red and we ordered a pizza and a calzone. Both were made from homemade fresh dough which was amazingly tasty! Then we decided on desserts. I had the homemade tiramisu. Without exaggeration, this was the best tiramisu I have ever eaten! The sponge was superb and the cream was light and fresh and delicious. Finished off with a nice strong latte. When in Broadstairs, make sure to visit!

Fast & friendly service, pizza was delicious & enjoyed by both adults & children - calzone was wonderful with ricotta & mozzarella just oozing deliciously. Super location just a moment away from the bustle of High Street, the intimate size of restaurant is just right, food prepared just a few meters away within the restaurant space - served piping hot fresh from the pizza oven. We'd recommend without hesitation!

Nothing particularly authentic in my opinion except the actual pizza. Things didn't start well when deciding the wine - we asked for a taster of the house white and were offered an unbranded drain cleaner. The pizza was good and we did end up with a reasonable bottle of wine but the service and ambience was average at best. I've heard others say they enjoyed it - maybe we were just unlucky but I wouldn't go back there I'm afraid.

Love love this place,Food and service are top notch,My only grumble is they charge £7.95 for a 1 GLASS bottle of prossecco, whereas a large glass of wine is much better value for money at £4.50.

Having just returned from Italy and not having a pizza out there, we were compelled to visit La Zia Maria !! The sharing meat platter to start was amazing, a variety of meats and other scrumptious nibbles (I personally would have preferred slightly softer bread maybe piadina) We then had a classic pizza and a calzone both cooked to perfection. There was a nice mix of customers and a good feel in the restaurant. We will definitely be returning

We had a lovely pizza cooked to order. You can watch them preparing the pizza and for pudding we had the chocolate profiteroles rolls which were lovely.

Had been looking forward to our visit to La Zia Maria and were not disappointed. Staff were friendly and welcoming, service was efficient. The la zia Maria special sharing starter was delicious with a good selection for the four of us, Including a slightly picky teen. Very tasty & quafable house wine. We ordered calzone , pizzas & foccacia all had plenty of toppings and crispy bases. The Italian chief was friendly, talented & accommodating. Finished our meal with yummy icecream puds. Will certainly be visiting again and telling our friends.

Arrived late on a Tuesday night with 3 tired & hungry children. Lovely fresh and tasty pizza, cooked in view which the children loved! Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.

I have eaten here several times in August, and I have to say the pizzas are perfect! I have tried most of the menu and I can assure you, all are extremely tasty!

Visited there four times so far as a family of four and always received great service and good food. Special request for our fussy 2 year old daughter wasn't a problem - service was always with a smile and a laugh with the chef/owner. Will be visiting again.

Due to events we arrived quite late to find the place practically empty. We were well looked after by the young waitress whom was extremely helpful and quickly made us comfortable. Because of the lateness on our part we were only able to tackle a pizza which was tasty and hit the spot. When we left we were acknowledged by the waitress and the chef which was a nice touch, altogether a most pleasant first experience at the restaurant. The restaurant is perched on a small, awkward pavement which might make it a little difficult for wheelchair users.

We had a most wonderful evening at this small Italian restaurant, the food was great, the staff attentive, the prices reasonable and the atmosphere relaxing. Definitely recommended, best to book.

Visited in May as a family. Excellent staff, took my fractious grandson to watch pizza being prepared- soon had him smiling and giggling. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Good range of pizzas, cooked with freshly grown basil. Lovely Italian chef. There were also couples having a night out and enjoying a meal with wine. Less crowded than the other Italian in Broadstairs, more relaxed atmosphere and bright and clean. Excellent ice cream, limoncello and coffee to follow. Very good value for money.

nice staff,fresh fillings and lots to choose from. lovely cheese straws( homemade) and cakes to. Always looks busy with people sitting outside in th esun ,i never have the time alas.

the best pizzeria in Broadstairs where you can eat the authentic Italian pizza. I'm italian and I simply enjoyed eating that increadible pizza made by an italian chef. the Chef and waitresses are really friendly I would suggest ordering the "Calzone",, simply delicious!

This Pizzaria blows the other ones in Broadie out of the water. Similar to but better than La Magnolia in Rammers. The crust is crispy and golden (not like Posilipo where they manage to both burn and make soggy the same pizza) The dough is chewy without being too bready. We have vegan pizza here and it is lush. Can't wait for six o'clock opening!

We visited this Pizza place recently as had said about trying it for ages. It has a more café/fast food place feel to the restaurant. We were shown our table and picked up the menu only to realise it is a pizza only Italian restaurant. The choice of pizzas is not huge however I picked the pepperoni, cheese and chilli pizza. The pizza smelt gorgeous as it arrived however the topping was extremely sparse, probably 6 or 7 pieces of pepperoni and 1, yes 1 piece of chilli on the whole large pizza!The pizza did taste very nice however I was surprised by the lack of topping.We eat out most weeks and this is the first time in ages I have felt disappointed in my choice of restaurant. Sadly we wont be going back but glad we tried it.

Off the cuff visit on a Thursday night. We were the only 3 people there but made to feel welcome. Nice choice of pizzas and can recommend the calzone.

Have been here 4/5 times with my kids now, and it has always been great. I wish they had a few more toppings to choose from, as I like spicy toppings, which gives me only 1 choice. But other than that, I find the pizza is better than the other more well known Italian/pizza restaurants down the road, which are always busy/packed. Zia Maria is still always strangely deserted whenever we visit, so sadly it seems people still unaware of its existence or haven't tried it out. I think they need to do some more marketing, as I am sure they would be more busy if more folks knew about this little place.

Awful service. Would not wish This place on my worst enemy. Dirty cutlery and mouse droppings in my starter. I visited the toilet and it was a hole in the floor. When I complained , the manager threatened to pound my head with a rolling pin.

This place is a hidden gem. For a genuine, Italian experience I would recommend here. The kitchen is open so you can watch the chef prepare your food. The pizza and gorgeous and i felt the starters were good value for money. Staff are friendly and I will return again.

My wife and I popped into La Zia Maria for lunch on Saturday, our first visit and we loved the meal. We decided on a shared starter, pizza bread with garlic, balsamic vinegar and red onion plus mozzarella and tomatoes. Both were generous portions and lovely. As we intended to have Pizza for our main we took the very reasonably priced meal for 2 offer which included 2 small glasses of wine and a large shared pizza. We opted for ham and mushroom, the pizza real dough, well cooked and a good size (we took a quarter home as takeaway). The ham used was good quality. What added to our experience was the view of the sea from the window and the Italian music in the background with the chef singing along as he made the pizza. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive without imposing. Great informal lunch venue and as locals we will certainly be back.

My title says all that is needed to convince you that this is a very pleasant place for a snack or family eating out. A very stress-free event, with exactly what we both wanted. Music there was, but very unobtrusive.

We've been here a few times now and each time it seems to get better!. The pizza dough is just right and it's amazing watching the chef making the pizzas and tossing the dough around! My favorite pizza is Pizza Express but this place has come a close second so far. It is all about the pizza dough, and they clearly have a good recipe. It is also a small restaurant and never busy, frankly I am surprised they are still in business, which is likely due to their location, as you are only likely to find it by accident when you drive by and then there will have trouble parking if you decide to visit on a whim. But this is great if you prefer a nice and quiet meal. All the other Italian restaurants in Broadstairs are far more popular and usually very packed and very noisy.The only let down is the deserts which clearly aren't fresh and are just generic frozen deserts.

This is a lovely restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and view of the sea down the road.It was the best pizza we've had in a long time. We're already looking forward to going back on our next holiday.

Three generations enjoyed a meal here last year, and looked forward to visiting it again this year - it did not let us down. Both pizza and pasta were excellent, and the desserts were amazing.

We are residents in Broadstairs and can honestly say that Restaurant is second to none. The Food is delicious and is prepared by the Restaurants very own Italian Chef! Our daughter was delighted when she received her very own pizza (see photo) the staff are so friendly and always welcoming to everyone. This is a real Italian treat in Broadstairs!

We had a family lunch here the other day. The pizza is wonderful very tasty and straight from there pizza oven which is great. honestly Its a struggle to get better pizza in the area. It's only problem is it's rude staff. My friend doesn't like ricotta cheese so she asked if she can have some olives instead. The waitress made a point to say "I can put a few in" in a brash tone which was completely unnecessary. We then could hear the chef kicking off about this small change. Being the only customers there at the time this made us feel very unwelcome and ruined the our whole experience. Not to mention the dirty look he gave to us when we were leaving! Please sort your staff out don't let it ruin the great food.

We went 3 or 4 times in 2014 - it was ok, though not good enough to merit a review. We went back this week and the pizza was amazingly good - thin, crisp, and generous with the obviously fresh ingredients. It's all cooked in very hot pizza oven - and the new chef clearly knows what he's doing. Don't be afraid to be specific about what you do/don't want - my requests led me to pizza heaven. Not sure about the rest of the menu - the shared antipasti was quite good, but let down a bit by the olives.....We're definitely returning....

This pizzeria does excellent value set lunches and very nice homemade tiramisu. Salads are also very tasty. It may be a step away from the main drag but this is authentic Italian food and great coffee and wine.

Went in early sat evening on a whim as hadn't been in before. Very surprised how good the pizza was - much better than Posilippo! - and very reasonable price too. Staff friendly, and although the garlic bread was a little dry my mother enjoyed her ice cream. Will definitely come back and sorry I have missed it all this time!
