bought the Groupon deal 2 steak/lobster for £24. Lobster was probably the worst I've ever eaten, defrosted, hardly any meat inside. steak wasn't the best quality either, but the waitress was really lovely. when the first one came overcooked, they replaced it no problem. it is more of a canteen atmosphere than a restaurant. we were the only people there all night. the wine was good (and especially as it was only £10 for the bottle), and the deserts, tiramisu and cheese cake, 2 for £5 were great. basically, you get what you pay for. Groupon's ad might make it sound more glamorous. the value of the meal probably IS the discounted rate. I would have felt bad if I had been charged the full rate. Next time, I might try and go for one of their proper Italian dishes, instead of this meal, as I've had better lobster, and better steak, elsewhere. But the waitress is really lovely and friendly and the place is clean.

I ate here with a friend fairly early on a Thursday evening as she had an appointment in the area at 7. The waitress was very nice and friendly (almost perhaps too much so) and let me tap away on my laptop as my friend baffled the tube. My friend had a Fiorentina and I had the vegetable lasagne, and we devoured both! My lasagne was very nicely cooked, as was my friend's pizza, but I would have perhaps appreciated a tiny bit of green on the side. Sadly we didn't have time for dessert but prices are very reasonable indeed :)

My husband convinced me to go to la Voss pre theatre. He had been there before and thought it was quite good (which previous reveiws would reflect). However, be warned, it is under new management, and whilst the waitress was very pleasant, the ambience, food and wine is not. My headbands meal was awful- overlooked cheap cut of meat posing as beef, with frozen veg on the side. The pasta sauce in my meal clearly came from a packet. Do not go!

We were on holiday visiting london and I've always wanted to try lobster - A very warm welcome, we got seated really quickly and ordered really fast too. We got the house wine - Rose which was lovely. The wait for our food took a little while longer than hoped but it was obviously cooked from fresh. Lobster was delicious! and steak was cooked perfectly as well, I got medium-well done and it was fab. Not at all alive! we chose Chips for a side after food had came out and they were served up really fast. Our waitress really made the evening fab, she was really friendly and knew all about the food. For pudding I got the tiramisu, much better than Tescos(being the only other tiramisu iv tasted), the portion was perfect also! Jake got the baked cheese cake which was really yummy too but just a tad small of portion. The cocktails - 2 for £8. We got the Lava something or others and they made them to our taste, we got an olive and lemon with it and they were absolutely beautiful! Best cocktails I've ever tasted. We had seconds! I'd highly recommend this place and will visit again if in london.

I knew the food wasn't going to be great as soon as we walked in and I noticed the salt and pepper shakers were the large ones you get off the shelf at the from the supermarket! A small detail, I know, but a restaurant that can't take the time to fill s&p shakers in place of just buying ones off the supermarket shelf, means they won't take the time to to cook proper food!!The waitress was great, chatty and entertaining, but I came for the steak and lobster meal, which was terribly disappointing...As such, we won't be going back EVER AGAIN!

Four of us purchased a daily deal voucher for a steak and lobster. Unfortunately the stake was thin and hard as rubber. After trying to chew it we had to spit out every single piece back on the plate as it was impossible to chew it. Lobster was also tiny, rubbery and tasteless. Only reason we stayed and decided not to make a big fuss of it was because the waitress was friendly and provided a great service. The place also doesn't have any atmosphere. Very plain and basic. Very disappointing.

Booked for lobster and steak offer via Living Social and took my coeliac daughter with us. The waitress, Deia, couldn't have been more knowledgeable or helpful. The chef made little roast potatoes as the chips were not an option for her and made her a special sauce. Our meals were good but not stunning and the puddings very disappointing (and no gluten free option) nothing wrong with the house white and only £10! Wish there were more restaurant staff as switched on as Deia!

Food arrived very promptly with a glass of house wine which was exquisite might I add. The owners who I too received a very warm welcoming from were pleasant and were quite the conversationalist this was much appreciated considering I was dinning alone. I have already written a review of this restaurant but felt I wanted to add something. The chef (and owner/manager I think) agreed to open up on a Sunday evening for us as we were a party of ten celebrating my mother's birthday. The food was delicious as always. I had the Bruschetta and for main course a huge bowl of Penne Bolognaise which was cooked to perfection. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal but, more importantly the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming. I want to thank them for making my mother's birthday special.

First of all, although we had reserved a table for four ... there weren't any! It's only a tiny place and the only available table was in the draught right by the open door. The waitress took our orders, repeated them but did not write them down. We waited for our food to arrive. About fifteen minutes later she asked us to repeat our orders - she had forgotten what we had said. Eventually the food arrived. Two of us had soup. The tomato soup and the minestrone soup both looked and tasted the same except that the minestrone had a few vegetables floating on top. Both the soup eaters complained that their soups had been too highly peppered. The other two starters were OK. Nothing special but edible. The waitress wanted to collect up plates before all of us had finished. I really wish restaurants wouldn't do this. The main courses arrived - or at least three out of four did. It turned out that the waitress had misheard the salmon order and came out with something else altogether. We started eating or the food would have got cold. Our friend's food did not arrive until ours was nearly finished. My scallops were swimming in a sauce composed mainly of raw garlic. I had asked what size the scallops would be and what they came with. The waitress indicated they were quite large - they were a bit on the small side. She said they came with vegetables. They came with a few bits of tomato and lettuce that were lying in the sauce. That was it. No rice, no vegetables - nothing. My husband's pasta dish was dried up. He felt it had been cooked a long time previously and reheated. All in all, not a good eating experience. Again, a waiter tried to remove a plate from one of us when we had not quite finished eating. Why the hurry? At least they had the grace to apologise for the late arrival of our friend's main course and deducted the cost from the bill. But none of us wished to stay for dessert or coffee.Unlike some of the reviewers who have given this place a glowing report, we felt that the whole restaurant was being run by amateurs. The waitress did not seem to have a clue what she was doing and the "chef" really does not know how to cook. La Voss really needs to sharpen up its act if it is going to survive. I certainly won't be going there again!

We were looking for something a little nicer than the fast food fare on this part of Finchley road and stopped in here. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service. We started with soups and a house red wine (also very good) and both had pasta. Everything was fresh and very tasty. We also saw people ordering pizzas that looked fantastic. There's a nice little patio that looks across at the Swiss Cottage pub and where you can watch the traffic on Finchley Road go by. T

The experiance on a whole was average, food was fine, nothing special at all, lobster was a little overcooked and the meal didnt look as mouth watering as the photo in the advert. We were the only ones in the restaurant for most of the time we were there, the waiter was consistanly walking back and forth pas the table and in and out of the front door which was a little annoying. But other than that is was fine, not somewhere i'd go again and with the voucher it was fairly good value for money. Best part was the nice sized glass of prosecco..

We were a party of 4 , we had 2 tasting menus, 1 starter and 2 main courses. The food by and large was very good (with the exceptions of the arancini which were a little dry and the beef strips in cream, the sauce was thin and the steak was ok but not great) and plentiful. The chicken risotto and carbanara pasta were excellent and the pizzas were delicious. The waitress was lovely, very helpful, charming, chatty but did not overstep the mark. When we broke a glass full of wine she happily replaced it without charge and because we were celebrating two 50th birthdays she offered a free tiramisu desert complete with sparkler. The house wine was fine and very reasonable and the wine list was not extensive but good value. The thing that really doesn't do any favours for the restaurant is the ambience. The restaurant bills itself as a café restaurant and that is very valid. The lights are bright, the tables are bare wood and the napkins are paper and it just doesn't feel cosy enough. Dimmer switches and/or candles and proper napkins would really make the atmosphere more suitable for the evening. The restaurant was almost empty on a Friday evening which is a real shame because the food doesn't deserve that. A few tweaks would make it just feel more classy and less utilitarian.

tl;dr : Do not go as the title suggests. Bad food, cheap place. Need to be on Gordon Ramsey's kitchen Nightmares Went there as we had a voucher from LivingSocial for steak and Lobster to share..Where to begin....When we arrive we have to venture downstairs to try and find someone as we were not greeted. We present the voucher and exchange the prosecco as part of the deal for "large coke"...It arrives and its far from a large. Also tastes quite flat with very few bubbles visible ...definitely from an open bottle/can and not from a tap.We are having steaks and so a steak knife arrives. Nice big IKEA branding on the side. Good to see they spent good money on the cutlery. Although it does fit in with everything else in the place. Its all very cheap, with Candles in a wine glasses because they are too cheap to get a proper candle holderSo, we both order MEDIUM steaks. They arrive and I would definitely call mine well done. The inside was most definitely grey throughout, and very tough. It was cooked badly, but was clearly a cheap piece of meat in the first place. The steak did come with a side "salad", which was 2 lettuce leaves and half a slice of cucumber.Next, was the chips. The first chip I chose happens to have a nice long hair attached to it.The Lobster to share tasted bland and was pretty small. Amounted to about 1 mouthful each. All in all it was very poor food. They didn't even give complimentary bread to eat while you wait for your food. Reading other reviews on here (bad ones) they are all so true which surprised me. The owner of the place does just walk around pointlessly, never asking us if our food is ok or if we need anything. Very bad.

...because this restaurant will bring you down! We walked in without a reservation and asked if it was ok to use the Tastecard (a dining discount card). The owner agreed. Sadly my penne was hard, and I don't just mean al dente...so I asked for softer (more cooked!) pasta e.g. tagliatelle. The dish came back with exactly the same prawns that I had de-shelled earlier, minus one of them which is one third of what I started with. Yes really, their signature dish only comes with 3 king prawns! The staff denied skimping on it but I think it was turfed out with the tough penne by accident. Thankfully when I asked for the bill, the woman manager agreed to reduce the bill slightly for my inconvenience (including me eating alone as my friend had finished by then) but the owner wasn't having it; he became aggressive and claimed we should be grateful that he let us in at all without a booking!!! Went with my partner on a LivingSocial deal in an attempt to save some money in anticipation of the holiday we are planning this summer and we were both thoroughly disappointed. First of all Lauretta Von Paulsen's complete lack of customer service skills and understanding what hospitality industry is all about had turned booking a table into a real mission. I booked through toptable and followed up with a phone call to check if we would be able to use the deal, when I was assured by a gentleman that that would been fine. Just to make sure we were covered I forwarded the voucher to the restaurant email address and said that we'd be using it with the toptable reservation as agreed on the phone, to which Lauretta responded, and I quote, that toptable is for ‘REGULAR customers only' and I had to book via phone or e-mail. I was quite taken aback by this, as I thought it would have been clear to anyone with a bit of sense in them that by that point I had had already booked on the phone, via email as well as online. She finally accepted my reservation when explicitly asked to consider that my booking email.Secondly, and I knew from the start I would not have got any help given the attitude I had received when trying to book, I had problems printing the voucher on the day and emailed them asking if they would accept voucher as attached to my original email, which to Lauretta again posed a major problem, as they don't have printing facilities at the restaurant... Although I am sure everyone is aware by now that no print out is required, as it's only the code that the merchant needs to redeem it, which was later confirmed by a table next to us with two ladies who had their smartphone voucher accepted with no problem.Food was really unimpressive, I would say average for a university canteen and overpriced for the quality it offered (menu prices that is). Servicewise, on arrival we were not welcomed and made go down and back up the stairs in a bid to find where we should be. Throughout this really awkward meal the manager seemed to walk around with no purpose, stepping out onto the street to smoke or just watch passerbys. The only acceptable aspect of the evening that I can think of was the waitress, as she was quite polite and approachable, which in this place with no ambience or feeling welcome stood out in a positive way.Overall it was an unpleasant experience and I was not surprised that the place had no REGULAR customers on a Friday night, which was the first Friday after payday, therefore, all other restaurants were packed. The whole lower ground floor was empty and only the few tables on the ground floor were being used. To sum up, this place offers very poor customer service, is full of attitude and I am sure this review will receive a snotty reply from La Voss calling me a liar just like the previous negative reviews did. The objective of customer service is making the experience pleasurable for customers and as easy to organise as possible under the circumstances, which in my experience La Voss did the exact opposite.Needless to say I will not be going back

My husband and I went to La Voss as part of my weekend birthday celebration. The staff were very friendly, helpful and the food was amazing. I do love Italian food and the truffle and mushroom ravioli was to die for, my husband had the steak in peppercorn sauce which he stated was one of the best steaks he has ever eaten. The desserts were delicious and light a beautiful and creamy cheesecake, and a light fluffy tiramisu. This is just what we were looking for a small independent restaurant that serves great food at a good price. Earlier that day we had eaten at a chain restaurant where we paid more and received far less in custom and food in return. Please do give this restaurant a try as it is just what we all need more of, great quality food freshly prepared and friendly custom. The owners did not rush us even though it was apparent that they had a large group booking coming in after us. I would definitely visit again.

The food is reasonably priced and ours was perfectly adequate but I wouldn't rush back to this place. The menu is not very inspiring - standard Italian fare from the 1980s - not much originality. Obviously they didn't have a huge budget for the restaurant design - which is fair enough - but it just looks cheap. There were boxes of junk on piled up on the stairs and a radio or odd playlist of music - even at 9pm. Together with the fact the place was virtually empty means there's no atmosphere. So nothing fundamentally wrong with the place - but equally - I found nothing above average to make me want to return. Hope they can come up with something to make this place worth coming back to as the location is convenient.

The staff don't rush you but the service is quick. I had the scallops, it was great. Go there they deserve it.

Went here as there were good reviews about this place and we love authentic Italian food. The problem is you have too many mediocre Italian restaurants in this area but La Voss certainly isn't one of them. La Voss produces exceptional dishes that remind me of my many trips to Italy. I am totally hooked. Long may they last.

We picked this restaurant having looked at other reviews. The restaurant is quite small and in a row of shops on a main road. The service was quick and friendly and the food first class. We went on a Monday night and it was very quiet. We paid about 55.00 for 2 of us to have 3 courses and a drink each, so good value as well. Recommended.

The standard of cooking and knowledge of ingridients at La Voss is 5 star! They have a wide range of dishes to cater for everyones tastes and their pricing is great throughout their whole menu. Italian cuisine is one of my favourites and La Voss will become my second home :)

This is a small Italian restaurant which is perfect for pre/post-theatre dinner with the wonderful Hampstead Theatre just across the road. Service was very friendly and efficient. Food was tasty and very reasonably priced. I'd definitely go again.

We went for pre-theatre dinner here before attending Hampstead theatre and so glad we did. We had calamari and melanzana parmigiana to start and Pollo Cacciatora and Spaghetti Vongole all washed down with a lovely Barolo. This resturant in my view is "high end" but affordable with very tasty food. Will be back soon.

Herlig serveringspersonale. Vil garantert tilbake.

Nice food, great value, Very friendly and helpful staff! They offered kids potion pizza or pasta+ drink only £4! Even adults get any pizza or pasta and drink for only £7.95. Will definitely come back again!

La Voss is a gem on the Swiss Cottage roundabout. We originally went for Thai food as it was previously Thai Pepper and when we found it had changed to a classy little Italian we thought we'd try it and so pleased we did, in fact we've been 3 times in 2 weeks. A bottle of house wine was £10.95 and they have a set menu 3 courses for £18.95 with coffee. Highly addictive. The only criticism was the service but really nothing that would have affected my overall enjoyment. Great local find.

Very accommodating for 10 hungry ladies who hadn't pre-booked for an afternoon meal before catching a train back to Lancashire. We had a lovely friendly waitress from the Ukraine who somehow remembered all of our drinks order without writing anything down. Food was excellent and we didn't have to wait too long. Excellent choice on GF menu and I had a very tasty GF pizza. Couldn't fault the meal or service. It was a good way to end our weekend in London 👍

awful service....I ordered a cup of tea....and a cooked English breakfast....the tea came....but after about 20 minutes I enquired how long the breakfast would be....and the waitress told me the cooks never received my order. when I told them I haven't got time to wait another 20 minutes and went to leave....they didn't seem that bothered at all....charged me for the cup of tea....and not even an apology....as though it was my fault somehow.
