La Taverna Restaurant in Northampton

I've been trying to order from you for 2 weeks, the order is taken and after 30 minutes it's canceled, then it's correct, at least you say you're on vacation

Amazing food, restaurant is nice and clean, staff are extremely nice. Probably the best pork neck I ever had, and the papanași... it brought back memories when I first tried it. Excellent! I'll probably drive an hour every weekend to have a lunch.

Very good kitchen, large portions. The atmosphere itself is very pleasant, beautiful interior. Personal is very friendly. I really liked everything. I advise you.

A small place, the food is ok but if you only eat what you can find. I asked for three types of soup from the menu but they didn't have any, ok I passed and ordered something else. Spicy prices more expensive than at Romanian restaurants in London, I didn't like the papanas as if it was bread bought and dipped in jam and cream 🤮🤢🤢🤢

I really enjoyed the food at La Taverna. They offer traditional Romanian food with a few extra dishes from other cuisines. The service is good and fairly fast, the only downside to this restaurant is that I went with 2 vegetarians and they had very very few options on what to eat. Romanian dishes are very possible to make vegetarian however La Taverna does not offer anything like this. They ended up just having to order several sides. Despite this, I would recommend La Taverna to anyone looking to try good Romanian food in Northampton.

I usually don’t do reviews, but this restaurant “need “ one. Not even a star they don’t deserve: “mici” the cheapest that you can find, frozen potatoes for fries, “bulgareasca” salad it is not what it was supposed to be; they have added crisp salad from any superstore just to keep down the expenses. All this for very high prices. For the money they ask they should offer “mici” prepared by their chef. And on top of all that, the waiter was very irritated because we entered the restaurant. His attitude was so offending. To conclude don’t go there!

Had the best bit of pork in here that ive had for ages. Not had Romanian food before and this was a spur of the moment choice but im glad i made it. I will go back again

I said that I don't like soup and he said that you don't care about Romanians, that she's Hungarian, if I want to make it, they have no idea about serving customers, that's why it's empty all the time

4 stars for service and food, the 5th was lost when the violinist started screaming at the microphone...he didn't sing badly, but very loud for such a small restaurant

I do not recommend. I ordered a Greek-style chicken soup but received Greek-style chicken skin soup. Two pieces of meat, the rest is just chicken skin.

Great Romanian cuisine, friendly and quick staff. It is always a treat to dine here and the chef is a great guy as well. I recommend the place, 5 stars are not enough :).

This is a very small and cozy family restaurant, where we had a great dinner. There is a good selection of dishes at very reasonable prices and it is delicious. Very tasty! Here you can taste real Romanian dishes, very well-cooked meat. There is also a very friendly staff and fast service, we came to the restaurant hungry, asked to bring food quickly and received it in a few minutes.

Chef Marius will take you to a wonderful culinary journey.

I was disappointed after I ordered potato mitites to take away and when I opened the package there were mitites (not really great) with potatoes and mustard but no bread, no napkins and no fork. I wouldn't have high expectations, but for £10 a takeaway portion, I expect a slice of bread, napkins and a fork. I ordered on the 16th of April at 2pm by phone and collected from the door of the restaurant. I paid cash.

Very friendly staff, cozy atmosphere and very clean. The food is excellent - you can find plenty of traditional dishes like mici, ciorbă de burtă, papanași. Recommended!

Very small and warm place. The lady who served me seemed like she read my mind. She recommended this AMAZING lemonade. I ate and took some for my friend as well. After I paid she was very shocked why did I left more money than on the bill, I guess tipping is not something very popular in UK. I don't remember her name but she made my night: customer service EXCELLENT!!

Just parked outside - didn't actually go in.

They were closed for refurbishment, but not even the website said anything about :/ we were travelling fromPortsmouth just because of the restaurant, so we are very dissapointed Travelled 3,5hrs for nothing

Really good traditional romanian food which I love but stuff little weird like they wouldn't know what to say or do and I felt pressured to leave since me and my friend were the only ones left

Good Eastern European food. Definitely taste the unique flavour of having something different. Portion is extremely generous. Service we received had absolutely zero complaints - got a homely vibe rather than a well run engine but I like that relaxed atmosphere. I think if it's super busy then expect a slightly slower service but you get the feeling that you're there to chill rather than rush through. Expect to spend around £15pp which will include couple of drinks + starters + mains. We enjoyed it and I'd happily go there again. One less star because: 1. the card machine wasn't working but luckily we had some enough cash otherwise it would have been embarrassing to go out to get some cash just to pay. We weren't made aware at the beginning of this. 2. Not everything on the menu was available. Well if its just one thing I'd still be fine but there were couple of things.

Used to be a good place where to go and experience great Rumanian cuisines, now it's just bad. The alarm was going off all the time we were there. Smoke detectors were beeping. And food was microwaved. All of it. Used to be all freshest cooked. Staff barely spoke English, and wasn't helpful at all. Really disappointed. Place really gone down the hill.

Very homey restaurant, with a large 3D sculpture Dracula's castle along the wall, with a smaller version indicating it is the castle of Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), one of the rulers and hero of Transylvania. Makes for an interesting atmosphere, to say the least. We visited the restaurant on Hallowe'en (only seemed appropriate), and unfortunately, the main chef was out ill. The waitress apologised profusely, but we were determined to enjoy what we could get. We started with fried cheese and fried mushrooms, which were very good. I opted for a dish called Bulz, which was polenta, which had both cheese and sour cream within, and scatted with bacon. This was very tasty and perfectly seasoned. My husband had a dish of minced lamb/beef in sausage shapes, served with chips. In all, a very filling meal for an autumn evening, which was rounded off with small glasses of fortified wine called antifaki (?), which tasted like a very strong port. Too full for desserts (and with the chef out, probably not available), we plan to come back and try these next time. We do recommend the place, but call ahead to be sure the chef is in! :)

I have to update my review. I loved the place for the first time but this experience was different. My Partner and me had a dinner here just a few days ago. We ordered one of the most expensive dish from the menu. We were alone in the restaurant the whole time what we spent there so the chef had time to prep our food with no rush. I was so disappointed cause my entire food was microwaved. I am a chef so I can tell straight away when a food is not fresh but even if I wasn't one I could tell. Really poor quality. The waiter was kind but he couldn't speak English at all. Than he was on his mobile just hanging around. The owner was there as well so I even more surprised how she did not care at all. Now I understand why was the place empty. In England this is unacceptable

Flavoursome onion soup, tender, moist, steaks. Superb personalised service. Staff very accommodating to requirements.

Woe to your days..a joke..you wait an hour after a belly soup and when it comes it is very cold..I have only words to serve. I think that after the street they picked them and made them serve.. eat lobsters....

It's not worth staying there to eat. I don't want to sound mean, but once you go and wait for half an hour for a soup to be brought to you, and when they finally bring it to you and you prepare it with everything you need, start eating it it's still cold and you feel like hitting it on your head.. and ask the waiter to heat it up again, wait another 15 minutes and when he brings it back to you, mix it up with another one.. please.. Grade 2 with indulgence on my part..actually 1 is more convenient..
