Wonderful Spanish restaurant in beautiful historic building, had a family meal here and they easily catered for some very diverse dietry requirements. Note Paella has to be pre booked for two people as it takes an hour to cook, this is quite normal for a Spanish restaurant. Will definitely be going back often.

Came to La Taberna for a birthday. Booked a table via email with Clara. I had to change my reservation quite a few times as was disorganised and managed to book wrong dates etc but Clara was helpful and friendly throughout. Great for a special occasion as the building is fantastic, doesn’t feel like you’re in Maidstone at all which is a plus. Food was lovely too, we opted for the chicken and seafood paella which was some of the best paella I’ve ever had. Most importantly however, service was fantastic. We had four different servers during our booking and everyone was really friendly and efficient. Thank you for looking after us, we will definitely be returning soon.

As returning customers it was no surprise that we enjoyed another superb meal at La Taberna. From the moment we walked in the door until we said adios the amazing staff were all smiles and really lovely, these were not false smiles, these were the smiles of people who enjoyed their job and it really showed so thank you. The mediaeval Corpus Christi Hall has been tastefully transformed into what I would say was a typical Spanish Taberna, many of which we have enjoyed in older buildings in Spain over the decades. Because the ceiling is high and the restaurant spacious we were able to enjoy each others conversation without needing to raise voices to hear above other guests. We had pre-ordered a chicken and chorizo paella which was delicious and followed a selection of tapas chosen by us. The whole evening was memorable not only for the super food but the ambiance and surroundings and of course the truly lovely staff.

Outstanding location and atmosphere, the quality of the paella was disappointing though. People will disagree and I recommend they book a weekend trip to Valencia, Spain and try a real one.

The food and service was amazing, couldn't fault this place. The food portions were good, we had 3 dishes each between 4 of us which was plenty of food. The whole experience was brilliant. Will definitely be back.

I’ve been here several times with my girlfriend. We love the place they take good care of you and the food is really tasty.

10 of us ages 5-80 all had a great night here. Food was really tasty and plentiful and the service was efficient and very friendly. We can be a bit of a nightmare as a group and the staff dealt with us very well. Will be back as soon as possible

Absolutely lovely place! The food was great and I recommend going. The only thing for me was coz it's in an old building, sound echoes so it's hard to hear. Other than that I'll be going back for more.

Yet another fantastic meal at La Taberna. Booked a surprise meal here for my boyfriends birthday and they really pulled out all of the stops. Both paellas were to die for and the tapas selection was great, especially grandmas croquettes!

I very, very, very rarely write reviews and this one I write out of sheer selfishness. I visit Maidstone regularly to see friends after moving abroad a couple of years ago and want this super little gem of a place to still be here for years to come so am going to entice you to visit to keep the place going! From the moment myself and friends arrived until the moment we left, we all agreed we felt like were holidaying in Spain in an authentic and beautiful restaurant. A stunning building inside and throughout with decor and subtle music to give it plenty of Spanish oomph... alongside tapas to drool over. Everyone who tended to our needs and wants were fabulous and I can't wait to go back there. I true treasure nestled in the heart of Maidstone. Viva La Taberna! ❤️💛

The food it was delicious, I love everything about this restaurant, the old building with the most beautiful door, the fact its a family run restaurant, the best olives 🫒 I ever tried. Service was excellent! Thank you, we had a great evening!

This is a fantastic restaurant. The smell as you open the door is like stepping into Spain. The staff were relaxed, attentive but not intrusive. We walked in for lunchtime tapas (paella takes time ~1hr). The portions were generous, particularly with the Bravioli (potato) & pan ajo. The Gambos Pil Pil, Calimares Fritos & Albondigas con tomat (meatballs in tomato) were all beautifully cooked. The price was very reasonable. If you like Tapas this is for you, we will definitely be going back.

What a beautiful interior, what a beautiful building, am so looking forward to visiting again in the warmer months and sitting outside. We are fans of tapas and we're delighted to find them in Maidstone, we'd have visited sooner if we'd known La Taberna was on our doorstep. The restaurant is tucked away but is now no longer a secret as we will be revisiting many times. The menu is inviting, temping, vast and everything we ordered was delicious. Cannot praise it enough.

Just excellent, and it always is. The team genuinely care, the food is superb - a real example of how a restaurant should be.

Love this place, nice vibe, good food. What would give it 5 stars was if they made proper Churros. So many Spanish places do these things that I've never seen in 25+ years of travelling around Spain, they look and taste like frozen ready made things. Give us freshly deep fried Churros, soaked in grease and crispy, has to be the easiest thing on the menu to make!

Excellent food, authentic with own home produced ingredients to boot made with love and care. A deliciously genuine experience in a wonderful setting… A must for anybody visiting Maidstone!!!

I came to this restaurant for the first time as part of a Christmas dinner. I'd walked past the place many a time but never before actually experienced what the restaurant was about. The Spanish theme was very popular for first timers trying the food. I'd eaten tapas and Spanish food upon living there in the past and it was amazing to be able to share and re-experience that classic Spanish cooking taste. The priced were reasonable, the location was warming and comfortable and the service was faultless. It truly was a wonderful experience and I look forward to returning soon. We had an amazing evening here. The best bit for us was the service.our friend dropped her phone in the toilet (without knowing) when found the staff popped into rice in the hope of saving the wine which is very good of them for sure

Lovely place. Walked in as they opened, had not booked. Noticed they had a sofa seating/chill area, but got a table straight away. Food was wonderful, as was the service. Will be my new go-to place when in Maidstone.

The food was really bad. Ordered the grilled squid and it tasted like dried mushrooms. Presentation and quality of food did not reflect the prices charged for items such as the cheese and ham selection and the chorizo skewers. Everything was pre-made and pre-sliced and came out at the same time. Ordered bread which was stale. The service was very good though, well meaning servers. The venue was ok, could be better, nice building but the fittings and furnishings looked like they had been pulled from a care home. I’d pay more for better food.

Came here with friends and had the most amazing evening. All the food was absolutely perfect, staff were polite and friendly and the atmosphere was just nice and chilled sitting outside. And just to add, best calamari I have ever eaten! Will definitely be coming back.

Just lovely, we had a fantastic meal and ate and drank far too much. Not at all a cheap night out, but who cares when its this good.

Avoid, the staff are rude and condescending. A basic requirement is cold white wine especially on a hot summers day. When pointed out that unfrozen wrap round cooler was actually working in reverse and warming the wine, we were told we were being special by the waitress. We do not go out to be spoken to like that from someone who doesn’t respect her employers. Well you lost a couple of hundred pounds tonight. Well done la taverna.

Best tapas I have tried in UK,every dish tasted excellent,and service was excellent too!And unique cozy environment!

Unfortunately the food was not great. The calamari was so bland! The chips came out so so salty! I absolutely love olives and I had one and left them "olives" The prawns sauce was not nice and the prawns were definitely from a freezer much like everything else the only good thing we had was the pork and sangria.. if you are foodie people like us looking for amazing clean fresh food unfortunately this isn't the place for you.. such a shame as we went there from the reviews on Google but!! Not great at all

Food is amazing. Service is impeccable. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. The venue is gorgeous. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle in a grade II listed building. Couldn't ask for more. We will absolutely come back!

Just had the most awesome amazing tapas at La Taberna. We couldn't fault a thing, everything was top draw authentic Spanish cuisine. Lovely restaurant, lots of space, inside and outside. Every dish was delish, vegans, veggies catered for, top draw dynamite dining, check out the pics, friendly staff, huge massive portions, great value for money, 1000/1000 if your in Maidstone and you're up for something different La Taberna is the place too be. Will definitely be coming back for more... it's just like being back in Spain 100%...

Very good restaurant for Tapas. In a Grade I building so the restaurant was unique inside and outside. Food was delicious, everything served piping hot on a little cast iron pan. Service was very good too. Owner is very friendly too.

Found this place by accident when visiting Maidstone with friends, and was not disappointed. Tapas and Spanish cuisine is one of my absolute favourites, and I can safely say I’ll be returning again just to visit this restaurant! Great food, great service and all set in a gorgeous building!

We were here in April for my birthday meal. It had been recommended by a friend who lived and worked in Spain and he said it was really authentic. He was absolutely right! This is a family run restaurant with an entirely Spanish menu. The food was wonderful! Paella needs to be ordered in advance and is for a minimum of two people. It was well worth doing so! Lots of tapas choices, too. The restaurant is a converted church and the interior is still reminiscent. Plenty of space between tables, so no overcrowding issues. Service is also excellent. Very attentive without being overbearing.

This has to be one of my favourite local restaurants. I have been several times from big groups as well as just me and my partner. The service and quality never seems to falter. The patatas bravas are ADDICTIVE! I love the building and the general relaxed atmosphere. I 100% recommend to anyone

So the restaurant is in a very old building, similar to a church, therefore the acoustics can be loud and echoing. This is not somewhere I would recommend for people that are hard of hearing. The food is tapas, so surprises it is generally fried, unless you go for the Paella. The service was a little hit and miss, by that I mean lots of staff, not much service. For me the evening was taken down several notches when hoover came out at 10.30….. ( just after the rowdy lot had left and we could finally hear ourselves talk ) ….. not something I would ever expect to see, no excuses.

What an absolute gem. I loved this place. The building was beautiful. The staff were wonderful and were so helpful to get this surprise set up for my dear friend. We all throughly enjoyed the food and non alcoholic sangria's and mojito's.

I have eaten at this restaurant on multiple occasions and it's always been fantastic. The food is always delicious and the service is always first class. A little bit of Espanõl in the centre of Maidstone. 100% recommend.

Lovely place great food and atmosphere.

The paella was very good, as was the white house wine as an accompaniment to our delicious meal. The desert was also beautifully presented and very tasty. My only complaint (a minor one) was that the Pulpo a La Galega (octopus) was cut too thinly. It tasted great, served over potatoes, but I can't forget the portions of pulpo we enjoyed in Galicia. The service was excellent and very friendly. We will definitely return to try the tapas.

Came for a birthday meal and was not disappointed. Staff were friendly and accommodating and the place beautiful. The menu had great choice and the portions were great too. We ordered a mixture of tapas, all lovely and the three different paella, all lovely too. Good vegan options. Vast variety of sangria and cocktails/mock tails went down well too! Only downfall was the toilets being dated and not particularly clean. Will be back though!

Well, Where to start the entire atmosphere of the restaurant was amazing it seems to be an old converted church. Our server Clara a native Spaniard from what I gathered spoke to us in Spanish which made the experience even more unique. She was very helpful when it came to deciding what food to chose from the menu. Having had tapas before I knew roughly what to expect but I was amazed with the variety on the menu. My favourite dish was the black pudding and red pepper in paprika as-well as the baby squid. Definitely good value for money and the overall quality of food was outstanding my friend who had never had tapas before was in awe and loved the experience of trying tapas. All I can say is 10/10 I shall be returning again. And will be telling people about this place for sure!
