Just nipped in after a day at the aquarium and tried the new burger deal they have going on Amazing food, amazing service, nice and cozy place. Highly recommend

Love popping in here after a long day. Kevin is so welcoming. Great selection on the drinks menu, but the highlight for me are the high quality, premium cocktails. You just can’t go wrong with one of their amazing choices. You’re always greeted with a warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The size of the venue is cozy making it a pert personal experience too. One not to miss if you’re in the area.

What an amazing hidden gem. A superb little bar where you will always be sure of a warm welcome and a cold cocktail. Kevin (the owner) is a brilliant host and loves to chat away with his guests. All the cocktails are made from scratch- no pre mixers here thank you. If cocktails aren’t your thing they also serve teas and coffees and a pretty good bacon sandwich. Also have a fantastic little sun trap outside, great for the summer- if it appears. So head on down to Portico- I’m confident to say you won’t be disappointed. We certainly weren’t and will definitely be visiting there many more times.

Things have changed here. The new owners/management have renamed the place Portico which will also be a cafe and bar but they have said that they are ditching the previous French theme and concentrating on a wide range of specialist cocktails. We called in today but apart from the new signage the front has fence and boarding so the gap in opening may have a short while to run.

Came in for coffee and bacon sandwich deal . Superb coffee served really hot - Jamie gleefully Tod us that they were voted in top ten coffee houses in Plymouth !! Well deserved !!!

Decided to try La Roux for lunch, did not realise how small the place was. I would say you could seat at least 12-14 people in there. They do have outdoor seating areas. The lunch menu is limited and not much to choose from. Although a small place, no table service.

Had to put pen to paper and commend the amazing dj set we listened to on a sunny Saturday afternoon - like Ibiza had arrived in Plymouth!! Add to that some superb cocktails and we had an absolute blast of an afternoon. !!

We haven't visited La Roux for a couple of years. We returned on a Saturday evening as previously had a great experience. However, we were disappointed on this occasion. We believe it has been taken over by new management or owners since as the standards seemed to have slipped some what. We sat outside and the seating, flower beds, plastic barriers were dirty and all needed replacing. The old menus had been written over with pen. Prices had dropped which we thought was great but the quality of our cocktails also dropped. I had a pornstar martini, 2 for 12.95. Could hardly taste the alcohol in them and just didn't taste right. No prosecco shots on the side. My husband had 2 cherry bombs for 10.00 and again couldn't taste the alcohol. Tasted more like a childs fruit drink. Sorry we won't be returning for a while.

Visited here on a Saturday night and tried a range of cocktails all of which were absolutely amazing! Despite it being busy the staff were really accommodating and friendly For anyone who loves cocktails but doesn’t want the standard mass company chain owned place this is the place to go! Cannot wait to go back

I have been to loads of cocktail bars all over the UK and this little place is a real Gem. (the Bar Manager) Jamie, his knowledge and cocktail making skills our OUT OF THIS WORLD! The venue is quite small but it gives off a real intimate vibe for couples. I imagine it would also be a cracking venue for a private function. The inside has some really nice seating and ideal for groups of friends. We had a really nice time and the whoever chooses the music in there has some real good taste! I've always found the staff very friendly and go the extra mile to make sure you are well looked after. Me and my Girlfriend will definitely will be returning and look forward to trying the new menu!!!

Attended a private party at La Roux recently for family and friends. Perfect size for the number of guests. Staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend

Went there yesterday for a cocktail or two on my birthday - had to sit inside as it was raining. It’s dark and dismal and very tiny, though I believe there’s more upstairs. The cocktail menu is brief so I opted for Aperol Spritz which I’d previously had elsewhere - YUK! No ice (what on earth!) and lukewarm liquid - double YUK! After a few sips we walked out after having complained to a server who was totally unconcerned and just blankly said “oh sorry”. I don’t know who has written all the glowing reviews on this site - I can only assume they went somewhere else! We certainly won’t be going again!!

Popped in for a coffee and ended up downing probably the best Espresso Martini I’ve ever had !! Was given the option of no sugar syrup - wow the most amazing result !! Truly people pop down and experience what a true gem this independent bar is !!!!

I and my friends stayed at La Roux to celebrate Halloween. What an incredible night! We enjoy ourselves very much. La Roux was decorated for the occasion and the atmosphere was special. At our arrival, Ryan welcome us and guide us to the table. Ryan delivered excellent customer service as he welcomed us, he was friendly and entertaining. Cocktails were amazing and quickly served by Ryan. Music was great too.Overall, I would recommend anyone to visit this lovely place in Plymouth.

Booked a table at La Roux for Halloween night. Such a nice atmosphere, great music and gorgeous cocktails. Table service was amazing, Ryan and Max were so outstanding, they went out of their way to make sure everyone had a good time and stayed safe. Thanks for a great night, I’ll defiantly be back.

Visiting Plymouth for the weekend for a friends birthday from the area who introduced me this is wonderful bar. With a completely COVID friendly area, the cocktails and atmosphere are wonderful. The staff (including the guy is the amazing brows) are fantastic hosts who know all the music to play to keep the party alive. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a wonderful bar for a fun night!

This is my favourite bar in Plymouth. I always go here, and there was no other place I would want to go for my birthday. The staff made sure I had the most amazing time, even with all the covid restrictions. It was very secure, with the same lovely and warm atmosphere. Every member of staff I have met here have all been so kind and have gone above and beyond. There is no other place like this in Plymouth, thank you guys!x

This place is great, the staff Ryan and max are amazing very polite and brilliant at there job,I don't choose to go anywhere else anymore, coffee is great with your friends or family too, the prices are very good specially on the cocktails,everyone I have took in there has always gone back, social distancing is in place with all hand gels available too, toilets are always very clean highly recommended so if your visiting plymouth or just fancy a change give this place a visit you will not be disappointed and can guarantee your go back time and time again like we do.

We went with a few friends a couple weeks ago, social distancing was in place and you felt very safe, the cocktails are amazing and the staff specially Ryan was brilliant, atmosphere was very good too, definitely recommend and we will be going back, great offers on cocktails too.

Ahora aquí hay un pequeño rubí escondido (apropiado con el tema rojo) en Plymouth. Siempre recomendaría este lugar porque TODO el personal es fabuloso y hace un trabajo excelente. Hoy me sirvieron Ryan y Beth, que fueron fabulosos y cuidan a sus invitados muy bien. Para el almuerzo tomé sopa y un panini. Tenía mucha hambre después de una larga mañana de compras. Ambas comidas fueron fabulosas y me llenaron. También tuve los cócteles de martini de frambuesa y estrella porno que se prepararon de manera brillante y me acompañaron muy bien. Absolutamente 100% recomiendo este lugar. Bien hecho muchachos.

He estado aquí con mi esposo y mis amigos y todos estamos de acuerdo en que el menú de cócteles es amplio y variado. El personal es muy amable, acogedor, profesional y servicial. Mis amigos y yo fuimos a la noche de degustación de ginebra y Ryan estaba muy bien informado sobre las ginebras y las mesas estaban dispuestas con mucho cuidado y atención a los detalles. What a lovely venue. Brilliant staff, great wine list and cocktail menu. I love it here, great decking area and dog friendly. Nice bar snack choices at reasonable prices. Cocktails made to order and better value than elsewhere. Lovely venue to go to especially on a nice afternoon with friends. Centrally located. What else can you ask for. Manager is brilliant.

We popped in here as it was central for our mother to get to from the bus and on out way up to Armed Forces Day on the Hoe.There was a spare table outside. I went in to order drinks. Was going to have draft cider, but we were told no draft bear or cider was available and only bottled drinks and cocktails available. I paid for two bottles of Corona and was told they would be brought out to us. Went back out in the sun and slight breeze that was flowing. After about 10 minutes and seeing other people get their drinks, people who had ordered after myself, I went back in to find out what the hold up was. I spoke to the same member of staff she looked at me as if she had never seen me before. When I asked about the drinks, the penny dropped and she did apologies and say she had completly forgotten. Two bottles came out of the fridge and she promptly stuffed 2 pieces of lime in the bottles with her fingers, no tongs. The bottles were not cooled at all. We drank them and left and rapidly went and met my mother in law next door in S&L where the service was far better and even though busy we were served faster. Sorry won't rush back here in a hurry.

Decorations, accessories, totally easy going and incredibly polite and professional. what an amazing evening I had celebrating my hen party. the team at la roux were more than helpful. super easy and straight forward booking, really easy going on the evening, decorated the place, created some fabulous cocktails and even put those huge firey candles in the prosecco, thanks so much. would book for events again x

Discovered this amazing welcoming place as they popped up on Instagram and thank God I did!Just a a friendly personal place to chill in the sun and have evening fun or later if the mood takes you. This my partners account and we first visited as a couple to enjoy some wine in a sun trap.Then could never leave... Literally the staff and management make you feel relaxed and at home. Try this enjoy this and the conversation is like meeting old friends a real change for the City!They offer a Hen party and I signed up... cocktail making, shot taking and Prosecco flowing fun. The staff ensure full entertainment and such a reasonable price. Cocktails, fine wine and amazing food Plymouth’s best kept secret and yes I am a huge fan.We have visited loads, made my special day extra special but I would go for a coffee too with these hard working genuine staff.Thank you Ryan & Max you deserve the praise and the LED’s are never too much... The last time I visited here I wasn't overly impressed, however I revisited again in April and I have completely changed my mind.

I have visited La Roux several times now and felt compelled to review this lovely retreat from the city bustle.

Brilliant night out! Great atmosphere and the service was quick! Both the ladies behind the bar made sure we were not without a drink... Which is a winner in my eyes!

We always start our night out in this cocktail bar , however on Saturday 15 the Dec we arranged to meet our friends at 7 pm .Taxi dropped us off right outside ,we sat outside under the lovely heaters and chose our drinks , upon entering to place our order we were abruptly told they were closed due to a private function. Fair enough to have such a thing but Please !!!!! put a sign on door stating this .

We had a mixture of hot and cold drinks. Love the new decking. Great place to sit in the sun and watch the world go by. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Pretty average for a city centre style cafe. All other elements eclipsed by the awful wooden fence on the outside corner of a grade two listed building. How the planning authorities allowed such a monstrocity one can only wonder. The fence blocks off the view along the central walkway to the centre of town. A blot on the vista. Sitting inside the fence one feels as if one is in a farm yard cattle enclosure. The designer clearly had no motivation other than erecting the least cost barrier available. It is a sad reflection of what is allowed in Plymouth, especially if one compares it to the stylish barrier on outside of the Slug and Lettuce next door.

Great atmosphere, friendly knowledgeable staff, brilliant cocktails and we rounded off our evening with a delicious coffee! Well worth a visit.

Not the biggest place in the world, but when the sun is out there is plenty of seating outside. Staff very friendly and all the food that was being served looked lovely. The mixed platter was absolutely superb with a great selection of meats and cheeses, one of the biggest I have seen. All really fresh and well presented.

Can't praise Chloe and her team enough! From the initial booking to the end of the night, the staff were so friendly, helpful and just lovely. I hired the bar for a private 30th birthday party. The food platters were very tasty and they were able to accommodate different dietary requirements. I preordered prosecco (at a discount!) and the staff had put glasses out with strawberries in it. The bar was staffed until midnight. Thank you La Roux for a great evening!

I went with a hen party, the room was set up beautifully. The actual cafe/wine bar is really small and we took up the whole of the room. The tea was lovely, a variety of sandwiches with the crusts cut off (Tuna, ham, cheese and pickle). French macaroons, fairy cakes with lashings of butter cream, chocolate pyramids with butter cream, cream tea with jam and clotted cream, proseco with a raspberry in the glass, tea and coffee. There is a special cocktail of the day. One small universal toilet. There is a seating area outside. It was clean and inviting with a great atmosphere. All the staff were attentive, friendly and fun. They were absolutely great couldn't do enough for us. I had a great time and really enjoyed the high tea that was served on vintage china. Thanks for a great time and lovely food.

Booked for an after work gathering. This is a tiny little bar with a big welcome from happy, helpful staff. So nice to pretty much have the place to ourselves with canapés laid on for the group, such a nice touch. The sharing platters are generous and the cocktails gorgeous. Am already thinking of many reasons to come back!

Last night we were at La Roux wine bar for drinks to celebrate our son Mark's engagement to Lisa with all their friends. It was a fabulous night the atmosphere was great, plenty of laughing, drinking and dancing. A lovely group of people having fun at a Venue i would highly recommend, it may be compact and bijou but it has the service and friendliness to equal any other establishment. A few sore heads this morning but well worth it, i can highly recommend the cocktails.

Called in on Friday lunchtime and had a glass or two of merlot and a salad. Very nice sitting out in the sunshine despite being next to the road. Very small inside unless I missed something, so would be rather tight if the weather is bad. Excellent friendly service. I was considering going in the evening but thought I might not get a seat on a Friday as it seems so tiny.

Me, my daughter, my son's girlfriend and my daughter's partner's mother went for a prosecco afternoon tea today. Very nice indeed - nice selection of sandwiches and homemade cakes and chocolate, together with a huge pot of tea, jam and cream scones and a bottle of prosecco to share. Beautifully presented and lovely tasting. The venue is tiny but we weren't rushed and it was all lovely - and excellent value for money.

Have called in here to share the odd bottle of wine or prosecco and more recently to sample the new cocktail menu. The service is always impeccable and it's a lovely change to go somewhere small and cosy, where you feel you're being looked after. The decor is beautiful too!! I haven't eaten here but the evening snacks and afternoon tea and cakes always look really good !!!

Myself and my husband went twice to la roux during stated opening times and teice tbey had shut. Hours earlier, we were looking forward to some nice wine and platters. I suggest you change your times to match times on website!

Went here on a recommend great one. Had bacon roll and coffee mmmmm. Great service the lady who served was to a high standard I will go back just on that. I will be back to try cocktails.

We came upon this place on New Year's Eve, called here for a drink, it's a lovely place small but cosy and pleasant owners, the music was just our cup of tea, we ended up staying for a couple of drinks and will return again.

Small and friendly cafe. Lovely staff who offered us a blanket if we got cold as we were sat outside. Warmed the baby food for us. We enjoyed a hot dog but didn't try anything off the very nice sounding menu. Though we will be back :)

It's raining in Plymouth! That is not news of course! I came to this cafe because it is the closest to the Unitarian Church on Knotte Street! Great wifi - tiny area inside but cost on a wet and drizzly day! Eating. Toasted Brie and grape baguette! Delicious and beautifully presented. This is close to my temporary home at the Hoe too so I shall be back! Well done, Julia! Happy smiling service too! Great experience!

My boyfriend and I love this place. It's the perfect little spot for a drink or a nibble. The coffee is well made, the wine is delicious and the service is always exceptional.

Visit here regularly with a couple of friends. Lovely little cafe/bar with a limited but excellent menu. We sometimes order from the specials but their baguettes are really good as are the platters. Good selection of wines all reasonable priced. If the weather is good sit outside and watch the world go by, in fact if it's not good still sit outside they even provide you with blankets to keep out the chills.

I found this quaint wine bar/cafe by chance on arriving at Plymouth docks after a business trip in Paris. Instantly bought the fabulous memories of Paris flooding back. Edith Piath melodic melodies and a croissant and wonderful coffee was just the start I needed. The charming waitress then seduced me to come back in the evening where my taste buds were tingling from a Cornish Gin called Tarquins! Anyone who wants a step up from the chain coffee shops and bars give this a try. You won't be disappointed.

Upon stubbing across this place in Plymouth one day, me and my partner decided to go in for a "glass" of wine. Quite possibly the nicest place that we have found to chill and a bit of romance in. We haven't looked back since, we go to many different places all around Devon but we always come back to this place for there great wine and the really nice atmosphere and vibe there. Also is great to sit down have a coffee and chill after a long day, ended up paying a small percentage of a lot of other places that don't offer the quality and service that is offered here and if that wasn't good enough for us we also enjoy a baked Camembert, cheese board or French cheese board ever time we go which is always very tasty and served with a smile. I highly recommend this place to anyone especially couples looking for a special night. We will be back most definitely.

We had a beautiful lunch of meats, cheeses, bread and olives followed by macaroons, and the loveliest bottle of Prosecco I've tasted so far.

Absolutely lovely little cafe and wine bar. The staff are so sweet and accommodating. We had a breast feeding infant with us and were treated very well - they even offered to turn the music down when baby was falling asleep. Would highly recommend!
