La Romana in Birmingham

Have been there few times with friends and family. Always enjoyed the food and staff is very friendly. Especially The breakfast on weekends. I love the mix grill, meat achari and tarka daal with fresh naans and rotis during week days. 👍🏽👏🏽

Great little spot. Came for breakfast, 7 people total. Food was delicious, all happy.

It was quite nice . Food was quite good . Good portion size for price. Staff was attentive and polite. Initially it as quiet but picked up after a bit. Atmosphere was good, not too loud or busy. Could hold a conversation without being loud, definitely would go again!

We attended for breakfast as a large family. The food was fresh, hot, good portion sizes, and reasonably priced. The taste was authentic, and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. This is a local restaurant to me, and I shall certainly be returning. A must try! Thank you

Had the opportunity to eat from here a few times, so I feel I'm in a good place to judge. Hopefully the owners can read this and improve where necessary -------------------------------------------------------------- SERVICE & ATMOSHPHERE (5/5) - The two ladies who greeted us were very polite and welcoming, and tended to our needs throughout the evening. The tables were clean, chairs comfortable, and the overall ambience was pleasant (music not too loud, etc). CHICKEN CURRY BONELESS (4/5) - No complaints on this. It was nice and would eat again as a safe option LAMB NIHARI (5/5) - First time I've ever tried a lamb nihari, so I'm not in a place to judge in comparison to others. But I did really enjoy this. The meat was so tasty and tender. Would definitely get again NAAN (1/5) - These aren't tandoor naans. Not sure if they're made in a machine or just placed in a round plate in a standard oven. Or if they're even freshly made? I don't know. But they were small, dry and not very tasty. NAAN KEEMA (1/5) - Suffer from the same fate as the above SAMOSA CHAAT (5/5) - Very good. I'm not even a fan of samasa chaat, but this was actually quite nice. MIXED GRILL PLATTER #3 - Felt I had to break these down into their individual items. If the owners are reading this, you really need to review your chicken items below because they were terrible. 1. Lamb seekh (4/5) - These were decent 2. Chicken seekh (0/5) - Awful. Tasteless. Ended up throwing them away as their smell and taste was off. 3. Chicken tikka (2/5) - Big and tender, but there was no flavour to them. Very bland. Could only be eaten with sauce 4. Chicken wings (1/5) - Again, very bland. No taste or flavour to them whatsoever. 5. Fish pokora (4/5) - These were decent 6. Lamb chops (2/5) - These aren't lamb chops. They're mutton chops - as evident by their high fat content and very chewy texture which you have to keep spitting out ------------------------------------------------------ Their 3/5 total mark is mainly due to inconsistency. Very polite, welcoming atmosphere which you can take your family to, but some of the food can range from being very good, down to being very bad. Hopefully they can address some of the items - which, honestly speaking, have no excuse for being as bland/tasteless as they are. I would suggest they research/trial until they get it right. Because they do have the potential to be a very good restaurant if they care and are willing to improve.

Best curry I’ve had in Birmingham - and I’ve tried many! The Chef here definitely knows his curry’s, he has years of experience behind him and you can taste this in his dishes. Had the achari chicken with roti and one of their platters. The roast chicken and Chapli kebab, absolutely delicious. The achari chicken was made with fresh ingredients and had a rich taste. If you haven’t been yet, visit! Absolute must.

No longer an Italian restaurant, under new management serving south asian cuisine. Very generous portions, tasty curries, grilled food all at a reasonable price too. A bit of welcome competition for the likes of Raja Monkeys and Tarragon. The staff and service are excellent, i would highly recommend.

Amazing halwa puri one could ever have in Birmingham!

Went to this newly established restaurant and wasn't disappointed. The food was on point and delicious 😋. Felt like we were dining in Pakistan and thd ingredients used were so desi. Very happy and impressed, the chef even went out his way to make me maki di roti with saag which wasn't on the menu.

Nestled in the heart of Hall Green, this restaurant offers delectable Asian cuisine, creating an unforgettable dining experience. With a warm and welcoming staff, a charming and cozy ambiance, and a kid-friendly atmosphere, it's the perfect place for a family meal. My daughter had a great time and even had the chance to do some drawing during our visit.

I don't know where to start....the service has been terrible 😭 we called phone order for pick up and they first of all said they didn't have the chicken leg roast so we asked for Sheesh kebab. They not once told us over the phone that they didn't have the Sheesh kebabs either. They even took my phone number and not once thought to tell me. So I drove all the way down to find out that they didn't have the Sheesh kebabs. No apology, no providing alternate option. It was our first time ever ordering from there and they let us down big time.

£40 order cancelled without any contact or explanation.

Placed a order on uber eats after half hour they cancelled for no reason.

Newly opened restaurant and lots of staff milling about which is a bit off putting. Main waiter and waitress were good. Starters were good as were the curries and plentiful. naan breads not what we're used to, more like a pizza base warmed through. Will try the breakfast one weekend as looked different

Best Italian restaurant in Birmingham in my opinion. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are genuinely lovely. The food was EXCEPTIONAL!!

3 of us went to celebrate my birthday, and as it was a Saturday it is advisable to book a table as this small restaurant gets very busy. We had been there under other owners but now Marco is back as the chef. Excellent food as we expected and customer service was great. Some nice touches like giving me a free glass of wine because my meal was delayed. Cannot fault the experience and highly recommend this restaurant. It has street parking outside the premises and looks to have an outside seating area when the weather improves. Disappointed with choice of deserts but that's just a personal opinion. They had veal on the menu and that was a fantastic choice

My wife and I dropped into La Romana this evening after a very busy day. We were greeted by the owner and his staff and shown to a lovely warm table underneath the fan heater. La Romana is our favourite restaurant due to the excellent food and service, and tonight was no exception. My wife had the pizza and I had Gresham duck from the specials board, all excellently cooked by Giovanni in the kitchen. If you love home cooked authentic food this restaurant is for you. The staff are so friendly and make every visit feel like a special occasion.

Excellent singer, we have been 3 x previous occasions La Romana have let the customer experience slip, our guests ordered lasagne with garlic bread, no bread arrived with meal. When requested it came when guests had finished meal. This has been the worst night of our 3 previous visits and resulted in me cancelling a 70th birthday party

This was the best night ever. Saturday night is dj night. We had amazing food , amazing service and a good old dance in the isles. Honestly you have to go. The waitresses were such fun. The owner a bundle of fun. We will be back omg yes we will!!!!!!!

Came with my family on a Sunday night, as we are from Italy we always like to go and try new Italian restaurants. Lets just say that we will not go back again. The pizza can not be even called pizza, the dough is like a flat bread or something similar but it's not a pizza dough, then we got the antipasti which was OK, poor quality meats and loads of it. Then the calamari was just something else. Sogghy and tasteless, sorry but it was the worst experience we have ever had in an Italian restaurant. By far the worst food I had lately. As we both me and my partner work in hospitality we don't like to leave bad reviews but I hope this will help to improve the quality of the food.

Tried out this place last week as one of our local Italian restaurants. We were greeted by the lovely waitress whom continued to provide excellent customer service throughout our meal. We had a pizza and the chicken special, which were both lovely however the chicken was slightly dry. The homemade cheesecake and brownie we had for dessert were absolutely Devine and overall the meal was reasonably priced. We will definitely be back, thank you!

Booked here with some friends... we will definitely be returning! The food was absolutely delicious and really decent portion sizes, so much so we bought the rest home with us! Dessert was just as good. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back!

Excellent food and service. We went along this evening for our daughters birthday. The staff were fab and the food was delicious. We ordered our kids some ice cream, which the waitress put a candle in for the birthday girl and all the staff sang happy birthday. The staff there really go the extra mile to make your experience enjoyable.

We booked for a family meal of 6 for a joint 80th and 8 year old birthday party. We ate outside, undercover which kept everyone in our party happy in the pandemic. There were heaters, but these weren’t needed (but offered) in early August. We’re well travelled and a bit demanding about what we eat, so I was careful about where I booked for this special double birthday. Thankfully the food (and drink) was fantastic and delighted everyone. The pizzas were thin and crispy and delicious. Pasta fresh and tasty. Deserts hit the spot. The service and hospitality was superb and our children (8 and 9) were made to feel welcome and well cared for. The restaurant looked after us so well (especially my son) and the team went way, way above and beyond. If you are thinking of eating here… do it, you won’t regret it! I will be back when next in the Midlands. To the team - thanks for looking after us all so well😎

I had noticed this restaurant while in the area and had checked out the menu on its website. As a finale to a series of events to mark my birthday I had intended to invite some friends for an evening of good Italian food. La Romana provided everything I was hoping for. I was advised to book for a Friday evening and this was a sensible thing as the restaurant was quite busy but not rushed. We were greeted at the door by a charming young lady and shown to our table. The menus were as extensive as I had seen and there was the added bonus of a 'specials' additional sheet. You could say we were spoiled for choice. A second young lady, equally charming and professional, took our drinks order. They say that if the house wine is good then the restaurant is also; I would agree with that. The house red was delightful and a Merlot too! I wanted the non-wine drinker to be envious but his choice of cider showed that the entire drinks menu was not to be sniffed at. We did not sniff at it, we enjoyed every drop. For the meal we opted for both starters and mains. Italian food is generous as well as delicious but we wanted the full experience and opted to be expansive. The food was indeed generous and the leisurely pace allowed us to eat to our heart's content. We knew we had eaten heartily but when the desserts were described there was a unanimous decision to take one more bite. Actually more than one because the desserts were superb. By the time we came to settle the account I knew for certain why reservations are necessary and why this place had as many diners. This visit may have been a finale to a series of events to mark an occasion but it certainly won't be the last time we sit and dine and enjoy such fare..

Thank you to the staff for a lovely and lively experience at La Romana. This was the first time I had been out to a restaurant with my family for nearly 2 years and this really made our night. The food was authentic, was surprised (sorry) that the cocktails were so good and dessert was amazing. The staff were also really attentive to the kids and their ice cream needs!

Food was excellent, delicious and served very quickly. The staff were friendly and helpful and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. Clean and comfortable tables and building. Would happily go again.

The food is amazing, really good quality and reasonable priced, nice wine and beer choices Marco and Sam are wonderful hosts and the team around them are friendly polite and professional it's a joy to eat here. And we do often.

I visited this delightful restaurant over a month ago for a meal and some drinks, and I wasn't disappointed. The food was delicious and I enjoyed the drinks alongside it. The waitress was excellent and welcoming. I was talking to Fran the waitress about my upcoming wedding, and a few minutes later she came back with complimentary prosecco for me & my family to congratulate me for my upcoming nuptials. I thought this was a lovely gesture and I definitely look forward to visiting this restaurant in the near future.

2nd time here was as excellent as the first, our starters of insalata caprese and prawn gamberone (best starter ever according to the hubby) were outstanding. We ordered 2 kids and one adult pizza they were all the same very generous size so none were finished although there were all delicious. Staff were happy to box them up for take away. Hubby had the arrabiata, again delicious. Staff were warm welcoming and friendly throughout, giving additional attention to the kids and their gelatos went down a storm! We've all agreed a monthly visit is needed for this beautiful Italian restaurant 😍😍

Down visiting the area for a couple of days and came across this little gem. Amazing food and very helpful staff. If I’m ever back in the area I will certainly be back.

Really enjoyed our first visit to this restaurant. Offer vegetarian and gluten free options as well as usual pasta and pizza options. Only mild criticism is that staff could be more professionally dressed.

Our first time, with friends who are regulars, wasn't a disappointment from the welcome to the lovely food. Choices for vegetarian and gluten free diners are welcome although slightly limiting if pasta and pizza not to your liking. Tried the vegetable lasagne which was very tasty. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. They are also open for breakfasts and lunch.

Went with our family tonight. Great welcome on arrival and more than helpful with our two children. All the food was incredibly tasty from the prawns and meatballs to the pizza. Pizza tasted so fresh and was cooked perfectly. Nice family feel to the guys running it. We will be returning and would recommend it.

We were fortunate to get a table on a busy Friday but the staff seem to always try to accommodate and help their customers. We were warmly greeted and settle into a small but very comfortable restaurant. We shared garlic bread and the Italian meat platter for 2 between three of us. The Italian meats were on a 12 inch pizza plate and were the most amazing array of different cured meats, served with bread, olives and pickled vegetables. We were given olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip with the bread. The garlic bread was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious (we didn't realise the starter came with bread as we probably ordered too much, but it tasted so good!) Mains we had pizzas and Carbonara. The carbonara is cooked traditionally with optional cream. I'm told it was excellent but it was all gone before anyone else had a taste. The pizzas were perfect. The base sauce is tasty, rich but not overpowering. We took leftovers home for the next day and sadly weren't able to taste the desserts as we were too full. Next time we are in Birmingham we will visit. Definitely worth a trip Thank you to all the staff, especially Fran, for making us so welcome and having a giggle with our 11 yr old.

Visited La Romana last night, what a fabulous place - made to feel very welcome and loved the outside seating area. Food was fantastic, the garlic pizza bread in particular was stunning. Very reasonably priced too , we will definitely be regulars .....

The pizzas were a good size and tasty. The staff were super friendly and attentive.
