La Pekora Nera UK in South Lakeland

Working in Kendal we booked a table for three people at 1930. We arrived on time and were shown to our table. As we did so a large party of people was clearly arriving into another area of the restaurant. The waiter assured us that he would ensure that our order was placed ahead of this group. Drinks were served. Shortly after 2010 meals began to be served to the large group ! We queried this with the waiter and were advised ‘your meals are next ‘ !!! At 2030 two of our three starters arrived - the other at 2035 ! Not good enough ! Our main courses were delivered around 2055 - as the large group of people were now leaving ! As a new business we were amazed and concerned about this terrible level of service. The food we eventually received was as best ‘average’ with a watery puddle rather than a sauce ! There was no apology provided to us! Completely unacceptable and as a result I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone !

We visited La Nonnas recently on a weekend away. We were seated upstairs where the decor seemed untidy. It looked as though the ceiling had just been re plastered. Looked unfinished. Only one toilet was in use as the other was out of order. Quite a few things on the menu were crossed out. I can only comment on the food that we chose. I had a diavola pizza which I have to say was the worst pizza I’ve had. The base was very greasy on the bottom which seemed to be some kind of oil. My husband had the calzone which he reported to be very mushy. We were very disappointed with the whole experience. However, I do have to say the staff were very friendly and polite just a real shame about the decor and food.

Food was cold, waited 20 mins for mine to arrive, then another 10 mins for my partners to arrive, sent chips back as covered in rock salt, by the time fresh ones had arrived my partner had finished his meal. Carbanarra comes in a cheese and cream sauce... to my knowledge, my cold carbonarra came with no sauce, just what looked like scrambled egg around it....apparently that's the way it's meant to be. CERTAINLY WONT BE RETURNING

I had the margarita pizza and the four chesse cheezy pasta which was so filling and incredible. Then me and my sis had a great tiramisu which was the best . As it says, original, authentic Italian food and it was. Much delighted after having dinner here. Very delicious food and desserts.

The food was good but the restaurant looked a bit shabby and the staff was struggling with all the tablets.

I have to say this is a pretty impressed experience. The food is so delicious, we ordered quite a few dishes, the pizza was spot on and you can tell the ham on pizza is really good quality than other restaurants, steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly as required and very juicy! They have happy hour which makes the bill very affordable with a great quality. We were visiting Kendal and chose this restaurant randomly, but we are so happy we chose this one and highly recommended for people visiting Kendal!

Run out of basic ingredients so had to choose twice different meals, staff was lovely but 1 hour wait for pizza was too long

Been prior to the latest renovations and I'd have given an extra star then. Food was ok, not as nice as before. Service was quite slow and not all of order came out, same thing happened to table next to us. Atmosphere was ok, but it was slightly later than lunch service so not that busy. Will try again in case it was just an off day. Happy hour is a great deal though so definitely worth a try.

This is the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to in my life! I recommend the cheesecakes! Oh wow! I thought I was in Italy! The owners are so accommodating! Next time I’m in Kendal I will definitely come back! Wow!

A very pleasant experience with good food and good service. Most enjoyable.

Went there on our last night in kendal. Was really good. Staff was very pleasant and helpful (wanted a spicy pasta dish, and the waiter recommended abbiata and put extra chilli in). The food was really good and I would recommend this to anyone who likes italian. WORD OF WARNING ITS CASH ONLY. As mentioned, I would recommend it.

Love having a meal here. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is truly amazing. I have tried almost everything on the menu and it has all been very tasty and authentic. The tiramisu is out of this world !!! Have never tasted a better one yet .

We enjoyed our dinner. The food was tasty, especially the sea bass. The restaurant, toilets etc are in need of updating, it all looked tired. We will eat there again.

This was our second visit to this great little place, for some reason I failed to write a review the first time. We arrived at 1300 on a Saturday, They had not been opened long and were not very busy. We were quickly seated by the owner and presented with appetisers and a VERY comprehensive menu plus a specials board. The owner (this is a family business and we were being served buy MUM, a lady who looked 15 years your than he actual age.!! We selected to share a starter of cappacio be beuf, a traditional Italian appetizer consisting of raw beef sliced paper-thin, drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice, and finished with capers and onions. This is a dish that may restaurants do not get correct, this was perfect, takes a good chef. The two main course, Beef stroganoff and a lasagne were excellent. The restaurant was spotless and the staff we met were very friendly and social, we could not have asked for more. Along with two alcoholic drinks each the cost was still below £60. This place comes highly recommended. Thank you

My meal at pekora nera was a truly interesting experience, the pizza was great, but quite small for the price.

The serving staff were very accommodating in finding us a table without booking. My husband enjoyed his food but received a very small portion compared to everyone else. Mine and my son's food were OK. My daughter's pizza and the garlic bread were burnt so couldn't eat it all, but there wasn't time to return it as we'd agreed to be out to free up the table for someone who had booked. We felt a bit disappointed and will try somewhere else next time we visit Kendal

Very tasty food and good service music was a bit loud

Just ordered 2 take out pizzas and sides. They sent the wrong pizza 🍕 Told us there's nothing they can do as it's through Kendal eats so its just tough sh☆t. Only option was to go into town to get a replacement ourselves. Then said we could get a refund but again we have to go into town to them to get it! So send wrong food. Won't do anything about it. And won't refund you. Top notch highly recommended if you want to waste time and get treated like a ***👌 Also the pizza that did come was not great.

Didn't provide the correct food or a refund. Acted like it was my issue because having paid for a delivery I couldn't come into town to have the correct food made for me. Other pizza was a salty mess and both were half the size of the box and the pictures on the website. Not good

The boss fancied Italian so Italian we had. Visited Pekora Nera and they didn't disappoint. The team were top knotch. The service was great. The staff were very well presented, polite, efficient and professional. The food, oh the food! The photos speak for themselves. We had the seafood, meat and cheese platter, followed by seabass and beef stroganoff, and finished with tiramisu and biscoff cheecake. Absolutely devine! Just look at the bosses face, she loved it!

We were on holiday in Kendall and looking for a different takeaway. La Pekora Nera cropped up on our searches, we couldn't find a menu, so called them to check they did take away and ask about the menu. The lady offered to send me pictures of the menu, which she promptly did. We telephoned and all 5 of us had different items, ranging from aranchini, lasagna, pizza and Pasta. They were accommodating being more than willing to add chicken into one of the pasta dishes. Food was ready within 20 minutes. It was well packaged and therefore still hot and all of us commented on how nice our food was. Staff all very friendly and helpful. If we weren't on holiday we would definitely be returning regularly. Thank you Amy

Lovely little Italian themed restaurant very welcoming and friendly place. Good choice for a very nice meal at a reasonable price. A variety of choices for all courses and drinks. The food was very tasty and well presented. Would recommend and definitely go back.

Massive Italian fan, not chains traditional family run Italians… who can cook a steak as ordered, these can!! I was gutted I was too full to eat more from specials to lasagna PERFECT

The food was outstanding and very reasonably priced. The pizza I had was fantastic and the sticky toffee pudding dessert (specials menu) I had was to die for ! I couldn't have asked for a better meal and experience ! Thanks.

Only went here as Table Table was short staffed and would have been a nightmare, but glad we did. Not particularly cheap but food was lovely and freshly cooked unlike Table Table. Worth a visit and will go back

Booked a table for Thursday 6pm. Was very quiet when we arrived but soon filled up. No wonder; the food and service were excellent. I had the seafood pizza. Prawns, calamari, clams, and I asked for extra anchovies ( no problem and no extra charge) . Really tasty. My wife had Lasagna also very good. Two meals, bottle of wine, coffee, 2 liquers, and 2 pudding for £76. Will defo return. Book ahead to avoid disappoinment.

Food was delicious. Just been to Milan a week ago and the Carbonara I had here was so much better than there. All of our food was excellent- I would highly recommend this restaurant. And the staff were very efficient and friendly as well

One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food is fantastic, the staff are wonderful and portion sizes are perfect. We are visiting the Lakes for a weekend of camping and after a day out we fancied a quick bite to eat. I saw this venue on Google maps and as a fan of Italian I couldn’t resist. I had mussels in white wine/cream sauce and the 4 cheese pizza, and my partner had calamari and sirloin steak. Excellent food, I can’t rave about it enough. The service is brilliant, each member of staff is a credit to the venue. All very friendly and welcoming. Paired with the atmosphere it makes for a very relaxed and lovely evening. Thank you, La Pekora Nera UK! If we’re in Kendal in the future we will be sure to visit again!

Service was lovely, the waiter was great. The food was good but this is a personal review not a general review of the food. For me it wasn't the best Italian I've had. But without a doubt the food looked gorgeous and the cakes. My boyfriend stated his pizza was amazing. The place is reasonably big with places upstairs and downstairs. Toilets are only upstairs. Prices were normal for an Italian. Would defo return

Had a board special, stroganoff with pasta. Absolutely excellent, taste and quantity would not be bettered anywhere at £17 a person. Our waiter, Brandon, was very friendly and helpful. Background music was great: Sinatra,Dean Martin, Nat King Cole etc, but I am getting on a bit.

We had a super dinner here on a flying visit to Kendal. Staff were really welcoming and friendly even though it was a busy Friday night. We ate classic spaghetti bolognaise and vegetarian lasagne. Both delicious! My sister had the tirimasu for dessert and said it was the best she's ever tasted. Highly recommend this restaurant. ✨️✨️✨️

What a find we were on holiday and the wife said I fancy an Italian which is usually Gino de Campo so we popped I to La Pekora the service from our waiter was warm and friendly and he wore a collar and tie which is rare these days. I had a special which was the beef stroganoff which was amazing. My wife is coeliac so she was delighted when there were gluten free pasta and pizza which she described as delicious . Would heartily recommend this restaurant if you are in kendal

I ordered the Mariana and it did taste lovely - but I could have made the same at home. I was under the impression a small independent Italian restaurant would make their own pasta. It was nothing special and using shop bought spaghetti for every dish I feel almost robbed for the £16 price tag for a bag of £0.23 spaghetti I could get in the Asda. £5 for a small rocket salad. I wish I would have went to maccies over the road. However; the staff were lovely and service was great, I just wish the pasta would have been made on site.

Never booked. 4 hungry blokes just trying our luck. They were fully booked but offered us a rapid dine and dash as they needed the table in an hours time. Lovely staff, nice crisp beer and the pizzas are just like the pizza in Rome. Will definitely return when in the area next.

We popped in on a Saturday night and, although we hadn't booked, the staff found us a table with no fuss. The service throughout was excellent (quick and very friendly). Our food orders came quickly and were really tasty. Nothing fancy, just great food with a home-cooked heartiness. The pricing is also very reasonable. We'll definitely be back.

An amazing Italian at a very reasonable price

We actually booked a different restaurant but on the walk we found this gem. Everything about this place is 5 star! The staff where lovely, they found us a table straight away even though they seemed to be quite busy. The staff where so friendly and personable. I had the house pizza which was definitely the best pizza I have ever had....and I eat alot of pizza! Also shared a slice of the Nutella cheesecake to finish between 3 of us, and it was also delicious! I would've had a slice to myself if I hadn't devoured the full pizza I ordered! The drinks where lovely and all very reasonably priced.

Lunch on Saturday 1 October 2022 This is the most authentic Italian restaurant within twenty miles of Kendal. Today my wife had the Pizza Mediterranea (with goat's cheese, peppers and pesto), I had the Gnocchi Sorentina (with mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and basil|) and we shared a green salad (spinach and cherry tomatoes). We each had a lovely, large glass of white wine (Sauvignon Blanc) and an espresso afterwards. The service was fantastic, the pizza and the gnocchi were the best we have eaten outside of Italy and the total bill was only £46.00. Recommended in every possible way! Dinner with friends on Friday 2 September 2022 We eat here every couple of months as it is one of Kendal's best two restaurants, along with Corner 124 (which is almost next door). However, I do not always write a review as the experience is always great! Every time we eat here everyone says that every course is excellent. This evening we had three bottles of wine (there were four of us on a Friday night after a hard week), four starters (I had the Caprese Salad), four mains (I had the Vegetarian Spaghetti Putanesca) and three desserts (one to take away, Chris, after you had already eaten one dessert at the restaurant, shame on you!). The service was friendly and the interaction with the staff was consistently engaging, positive, relaxed and unhurried. At the end of the night we even had to ask for the bill (unhurried service, again). The total bill was only £155.00 and in today's economy that is money well spent! Birthday dinner on Friday 20 August 2021 ​W​e had made reservations and were seated upstairs in one of the windows. We ordered a bottle of Nero d'Avola wine to start with​ but they had run out and so we ordered Barolo instead.​ ​For starters m​y wife has mussels in tomato sauce ​as they had run out of arancini (fried rice balls filled with mozzarella) ​and I had a (huge) traditional Italian Caprese salad (buffalo cheese, sliced tomatoes and rocket leaves). For ​main courses​ my wife had a Mediterranean pizza (as opposed to the usual four chees​e​ pizza) and I had a vegetarian lasagne dish. Both were REALLY great and we were spoken to in Italian as the owner recognised that we spoke enough Italian to order food and drink. Plus points include the welcoming service and really delicious and authentic Italian food. Minus points include running out of certain items but they were really busy and so that is to be expected in a popular restaurant on a Saturday night. We will be back next month! Buon appetito! Lunch on Friday 22 November 2019 This was our second meal at Pekora Nera but this is my first review as last time it was so new that it did not appear on Google Maps! Really, really authentic. Do NOT believe any review that says this restaurant is not properly Italian as the owners are Italian and work there as opposed to just own it. There is REALLY great service and real Italian food. Penne al Pomodoro (penne pasta in tomatoes, basil and garlic) at £5.00, a wonderful Mediterranean pizza with loads of toppings at £11.00, two large glasses of Nero d'Avola red wine and two espressos cost £30.10. There are Happy Hour Specials at £5.00 each between 12.00 and 2.00 Mondays to Fridays so look out for these bargains. An experience so good that we have decided to go back once a month from now on!

Had plans to go somewhere else but their loss this place was amazing. Booked last minute..glad we did, starter gorgeous main was super delicious. Atmosphere great super place to come. Staff were great..thank you, will come again on next visit

Had calamari to start , then seabass 👌 both absolutely amazing. Then had the biscoff cheesecake which was out of this world. Mojito was spot on too 👌

Really tasty local Italian restaurant in Kendal, prices are great Mains between £10 and £20 desserts are around £5.50 and starters and side range up to £8.50. service is efficient and non intrusive and beers are on draft and not just in bottles. Well worth a visit.

The food was lovely, and the service was good. we would of give it 5 stars but when we paid for the food . The assistance asked if we wanted our change. Which was 7.60. We were so embarrassed. She should never of asked a question like that. We left 5.00 only because we felt we had to.. you only leave a tip if you want to. Not because you have to.

Nice food, great people and good value

We had Formaggi and Diavola pizzas, bothe were delicious. Same for the tiramisu 🤩

The Pizzas are quite nice, and great to come as a couple, or as a small group. Whilst we're not saying it's 'bad' persay, we were disappointed in the Tortellini. It's very questionable if it's 'bought in' rather than handmade (something you'd at least expect as common practice at any Italian restaurant). You can definitely taste the difference. Everything else generally seems to succeed at what it's going for though. Service is generally friendly, and attentive.
