La Marina Restaurant in The Vale of Glamorgan

We went as a special treat while staying in Penarth. Sadly our high expectations were not met. The food was average.- Lobster overcooked and chewy , salmon overcooked, lamb chewy, crevettes sauce tasteless. I would not recommend la marina its way too expensive and disappointing food maybe we just went on an off night ( it was a Friday) not particularly busy

What can I say... simple the best! Location, classy, lush, extensive menu, efficient staff, food rich of flavours, amazing view...if you really want enjoy a luch/dinner out and be happy to spend money, that's the best place to go....we have chosen this restaurant for our wedding years ago and was amazing and we came for our Easter lunch here again and we weren't disappointed...everything was amazing. It's very hard on these days to find such a good restaurant with fresh food cooked at perfection and very professional staff. Thank you!

Food is truly excellent but experience marred by unpleasant attitude of waiter

Birthday meal... girl taking our order was a bit surly... smile and dont tell the customer that the fish is quite big ! Chips were quite salty and the butter unspreadable. Please update your board menu because several items were not available even tho on special ! Your main menu items were ofcourse all available. Saying that, had a nice meal and and were full so couldnt manage a dessert this time... thank you all the same. French Bread was awesome as always.

Went out with the team from work. Lovely atmosphere, service was excellent and the food was superb. Highly recommend.

We had Chicken Pate and the Spanish Meatballs from the Lunch Menu to start, with Scallops from the Main Board. Our main meals were Fillet Steak, Roast Pork and Battered Cod, Peroni and one of the House Whites. Exceptional Fayre and Wonderful Staff and surroundings.

Absolutely superb.. We were a table of 6 & everyone loved every course it was awesome & we will be booking our parents anniversary a table of 20

That was a bad experience, it was overpriced and they served half of the food and took the rest back I never saw that before, stuff was rude asking me to make my order as they need to cook asap I’ve booked the table 21:30 and didn’t expected to be that pushed They aren’t prepared to treat clients I felt really uncomfortable Avoid avoid avoid..

Food was excellent. My partner and I loved how the fish was on display and you order at the counter. The crawfish in particular was cooked beautifully. Will definitely return

A really great place to eat... the food is really good especially the fish selection . The venue is lovely and the staff are friendly and the service is excellent... would highly recommend. Have dined here many times and it never disappoints ..fab

Food lovely, staff attentive. Although you need to be careful, lunch is advertised at 14.95 per person. When you get there only 26.95 per person options available. Communication when you query this is not the best. ... Please read the response from the owner, apparently I don't have enough money to eat at his restaurant, quote " I am sorry this is slightly too much for you during these difficult times", is that exclusivity or conceit - not for me to judge

Absolutely terrible experience with this restaurant 1st of all never in my whole life have I had to pay for food upfront we was the only table in restaurant what they made do it after speaking to other guest they paid there afterwards but we continued and Starters came okay then when main course come I ordered T-Bone it was like eating a tyre was not just my peice as the rest of my party had the same problem with there steaks So we ask for manager they kept saying they couldn’t find him and we agreed for them to take steaks away and they drinks for the evening was on the house It was bad experience for it destroying are evening then to find out They took £335 Off my card for the full party’s drinks they never had no authority taking it The police and Fraun team will be made where This restaurant should be closed down to Robbing customers

Avoid Avoid Avoid! A very pretentious restaurant the food was good but overpriced, the staff are clueless they didn't have a clue who we were on arrival they brought us someone else's garlic bread so they suffered cold bread! Had to call the wine waiter who walked around looking but not seeing. Mistakes on our bill so be warned to take a very long look. The check ups make quite a good "Cabriolet" So all in all quite amusing but not the right way to run a Restante! "I won't be back"

Went last night (February 15th) to La Marina a table we booked when we had a meal there on Saturday February 1st, we were going to book for February the 14th Valentine's Night, the waiter brought a leaflet showing the price to be £27.95 for a two course meal which is normally £19.95 so after a little chat and a laugh with the waiter booked for February 15th and save the £16 extra it would cost for the 2 of us. Went for our meal on Saturday February 15th and was told it was Valentine's weekend and the 2 course meal was £27.95 per person, it put a little dampener on the evening. The food is always excellent and the staff always friendly and polite, but I think it is taking the mickey and it should have been printed on the leaflet that the price also applied to Saturday evening (or stated they were classing the whole of the weekend as Valentine's) the 2 stars do not relate to the food or pleasant staff, just the greedy owner.

I have no idea how this place has more than 3 star review! It's mediocre at best. Bizarre service where you have to go and order at the counter. Over-priced, bland food. "French fries" are mank chip shop style chips. No seasoning. My steak was supposed to be medium/ well but was still mooing. No apology. Service below par generally. Ordered garlic bread to start. It was put at the end if the table unannounced and was cold before we realised it was there. There are a lot nicer places to go in Cardiff and Penarth with tasty food for far more reasonable prices. People who rate this higher likely haven't been to anywhere else. Perfectly edible but that's about it.

Great food, can be a bit pricey but you only get what you pay for.

Recently visited for my father inlaws 60th birthday with 20 guests. We brought our own custom birthday cake, but unfortunately one of the staff dropped it! Mistakes happen. The way the manager dealt with this mishap was great, although dissapointing, he managed to more than make up for it. The wait for our main meal was over 1 hour, I appreciate we were a table of 20 but I do feel that was a little too long. Food was ok, my fillet steak was rather small (I know fillet isn't a huge cut but this was small!) and over cooked. The bill came and the staff taking the order had managed to really confuse the matter. Would have been 5 stars if my fillet wasn't so over cooked and tiny.

Great food, lovely setting and service is friendly. They ran out of mussels which is rather strange for a restaurant which specialises in fish, however the fish soup was good!

Great food loved the rock salt cooked Sea Bass

My wife and I visited this place twice a week the food is amazing cooked to perfection we had crab that was served on a plate of ice in its shell we had fish cakes the flavours were amazing roasted almonds lamb cheese and olives the service is very friendly and the view over the marina looking out to Cardiff day and night there's always something going on interestingly children are welcome very classy restaurant there's two restaurants here ear went upstairs II's and the one downstairs my daughter loves to join us us at these restaurants as it makes her feel special as she's very fast over by the staff as they do do for all of us you must give this restaurant a try as I believe you will not be disappointed free parking in a huge car park all on the same level right outside the restaurant restaurant opens at 7 p.m. enjoy enjoy enjoy.

Fabulous restaurant. Great choice of starters, mains and deserts. Lovely attentive staff and superb views of Cadiff Bay. You don't have to sit inside as they have seating outside as well. Hence my rating.

Food & wine good to excellent. Really fresh fish. Terrace and balcony make for a pleasant view as well. Ask for the specials. Service maybe a bit lacking in speed and courtesy - as usual a bit depending on "workload". One of the best places in Penarth Quay.

Booked a table for 9 Saturday night - food and wine were as good as its ever been but table service was severely lacking - waited an age for starters and then time between starters and meal was ridiculous- when meal arrived came in dribs and drabs one meal was steak and chips followed 10 minutes later-we Like to relax and enjoy the ambience but the time lapse was ridiculous- requested the bill 3 times before it arrived and then it was incorrect- La Marina has always been our go to place for special family meals but think we will be broadening our horizons in the future

Great service great wine selection and beautiful fresh fish.

We were treated to a totally wonderful experience in this delightful restaurant, courtesy of our generous daughter and son-in-law. What a wonderful choice of seafood or delicious meat on display! The oysters were superb and the lobster thermador was the best I'd ever eaten. Many, many thanks to a fabulous chef and lovely waiting staff for a truly memorable treat!

Good food, good wine, lovely setting and interesting history about the place. Reasonably priced too. There's a lovely terrace and a small balcony for the views. It's definitely worth a visit especially with the nearby barrage.

Booked a table for a surprise bithday meal for 16 people . When i booked they wanted £10 per head deposit so i told them that im a regular customer so the person on the phone said if i confirm the booking 48 before i would not need to pay the deposit . This i done today all was fine. Then 7.30pm this evening they called and said if i want the table i would need to pay the deposit or the table will be cancelled. They spoilt the surprise as my partner whos birthday it is was sitting next to me when they called back and been a nightmare finding a new venue at such short notice but thanks to The Plymouth Arms St Fagans came to the rescue and fitted us in. I will never book a table at La Marina Custom House again .

Gorgeous food ,well cooked ,great location .highly recommended by me .

I've been coming here for years but the format of this place feels tired and in need of a refresh. We visited recently for a birthday party and for a Friday night the place felt very quiet. The carpets and music all feel very dated and whilst the fresh food looks amazing in the cabinets it didn't live up to expectations. A few people in our party were also disappointed with their food. I ordered lamb noisettes which were overcooked and I didn't finish, although in all fairness they took them off the bill. The staff were helpful and friendly but salads were poor and chips and vegetable sides disappointing. I don't often write negative reviews but I think it's entirely justified on this occasion. There are plenty of other (independent) places to eat now in Penarth and the Bay that will give you more in terms of food, atmosphere and price and La Marina needs to up its game of it's going to continue to attract people prepared to spend £60 per head. I for one,won't be rushing back there.

We were a party of 26 that dinned last at the la marina restaurant. We can honestly say the service, food and attention from booking to the night was exceptional. The staff could not do enough for us and were really pleasant and welcoming. All of us had a lovely evening celebrating my daughters 40th birthday which was made possible by the attention of the staff. Thank you. We would come again and we will not hesitate to recommend to our friends and family.

We live in Penarth and visit this restaurant probably monthly. The food quality and staff attention make this really great value for money.

Martinez would turn in his grave if he experience the food and service i experienienced last week .The food was poorly cooked if that it was what you could call it service and staff courtesey was non existant and i have been going there for 10 years or more but never never again.

Overall great restaurant with good quality, fresh food and mostly good service. It is a little dated and needs refreshing though.
