I previously visited this restaurant on many occasions before change of owner. In the past, always excellent. I had a poor dining experience and despite writing a letter in April and chasing for a response on their Facebook page, they never acknowledged or dealt with the issue. When receiving a poor experience, I believe in giving the business the opportunity to address. I think 3 months is plenty of time to address issue. Therefore, a poor dining experience was made worse by a lack of customer service to address issues. Would never go back. Cannot remember ever being ignored by a business before.

We knew the restaurant had had difficulties since the change of ownership. They have obviously worked very hard to get the front of house right again; couple that with excellent food (seabass & pork belly) at reasonable prices & you have the recipe for a perfect occasion. We shall be back very soon with friends, who are keen to share the experience. One slight criticism; charging £2.50 for lime & soda is not very clever

Went here for a special meal with my daughter, what a disappointment. If you used to visit this restaurant before it changed hands at the end of last year ,you too I feel would be as disappointed as we were. The food is very poor, seafood pasta consisted of 1 prawn, rubber squid and mushy stuck together pasta, with some indescribable pink sauce, chicken salad was a bag of supermarket leaves, cherry toms, and thawed out frozen ready cooked strips of chicken, which had the strangest of tastes I couldn't eat it,with the whole plate swimming in the cheapest balsamic vinegar.I did complain to the waitress who sniggered!!! The one positive was the politeness of the young man who welcomed us.This restaurant used to have a very good reputation in the town, but no more. Will defiantly NOT return

Oh dear, having frequented this restaurant several times in the last 10 years, we decided to go to celebrate my father in laws birthday. Ok it was a Wednesday night but it was so quiet with no atmosphere what so ever, we had to wait at least 45 mins for our starters to turn up which were ok, then after another 45 minute wait we asked if our main meals were ready, we were told they would be about 10 mins, at this point my patience had ran out, so we paid for our drinks and starters and left. To be honest I think we had a lucky escape, this restaurant used be run very well with excellent food, two things it is lacking good service and good food, not a good recipe for a restaurant. Will not be going back, Try at your own risk

Visited here on a friday and thought we'd give it a go despite the lack of atmosphere and other customers. Bruschetta to start wasn't great, a couple baby tomatoes at best. Main was the fish pasta dish, pasta was stuck together and the fish consisted of a single overcooked prawn and not much else with a pretty bland sauce to accompany. Most of the wine is by the bottle only. Thinking that dessert might save the evening a bit we had apple pie. This was a terrible choice, it was definitely shop bought and served cold, with warm lumpy custard, on the side was an apple sours type sauce which was equally terrible. I had reservations before going in but my advice would be to just got to a generic pizza/pasta chain instead of wasting your money here. For information,4 covers cost £130. On a brighter note, service was attentive just a shame about the drivel coming out the kitchen!

My wife and I went for dinner on Friday night, no special occasion. We have been many times and didn't know for sure it had changed hands till we saw the menu (although suspected when phoning to reserve a table). We were disappointed that previous owner had gone but gave it a go anyway. First thing to notice is that, although it now says "Italian" instead of "Mediterranean" outside, the menu is not very Italian! It was very quiet with only us and two other couples which would never have been the case previously. However, the service and the food were decent. I can't agree with a previous reviewer about the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella starter - it was tasty. The slow braised beef special I had could not have been tastier. Yes, the lovely bread and oils has gone which is a great shame. My wife had a steak with a "royal mushroom" sauce and this to me tasted very odd, although she seemed to like it. Think it was the glaze on the steak which to me made it taste like wood! The house wine was fine, bought by the bottle rather than a carafe. Likewise the lemon tart dessert we shared was ok, nothing spectacular. So overall we had a good time but it's doubtful that we will go back. Agree with others that the menu choice is rather limited. If you don't like creamy or if you are a vegetarian, you might struggle. Unless things change I think this restaurant will be closed in 6 months.

On arrival, the restaurant was almost empty but we were seated right next to another couple in a tightly squeezed spot next to a red hot radiator, we asked to be moved which they acknowledged, the food is very limited, the wine is very expensive, £18.95 for a bottle of sub standard Pinot, I've paid less for much better, my starter of mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto was cold and not very appetising,my main which was chicken breast (in what can only be described as a generic tomato sauce as it appeared to be used on all the dishes even though they were different), was thin, over cooked and full of water with a texture like rubber, I didn't eat it and asked for it to be taken off the bill, The garlic bread with cheese, had no cheese and was greasy with no taste whatsoever, I will not be going again.

Me and a few friends visited this restaurant tonight (Saturday 26th March) and upon arrival was greeted by a pleasant young man behind the bar who quickly escorted us to a table and seated us with menus. After a few minutes the waitress (brown hair) approached us and took a drinks order, she was very friendly and smiley and engaged good conversation with us we ordered a bottle of house red and a tap water, drinks were served quickly and professionally and at a fair price too !!!10 minutes after, our waitress returned to take a food order, we ordered the broccoli cake, fritto misto and steaks, the waitress informed us that the food was cooked from fresh so it could possibly take a little longer than a normal chain restaurant and when we were served our starters we understood why! Both starters were cooked beautifully and presented well on both dishes (hats off to the chef)!Next was our main, when it arrived it was served by a lovely Asian waiter who was very polite and attentive and although looked busy he was still able to crack a smile and look happy! (Which is rare to find in most chain restaurants) the steaks were cooked to perfection ! And just the right sized portion too! (Safe to say we cleared our plates easily)Shortly after we finished our waitress cleared the table and offered us coffees or desserts, unfortunately we were too full to fit in anything else so just asked for the bill, after a nice friendly chat with the waitress we settled the bill and left. All in all it was a lovely evening with a lovely atmosphere and all staff were pleasant and attentive, our main positive feedback would be for our waitress (Charley or Carly we can't remember oops!) she was very friendly and professional and is a great asset to the business ! :-) will definitely be back again !

We'd been going to LM for years under the previous ownership but not for a couple of months so didn't realise it had changed hands until we walked in. Totally shocked at departure of the previous owners but willing to keep an open mind.I had the caprese and tomato salad to start, others had chicken livers or bruschetta which were all fine. For mains there were two steaks, and two swordfish. Fish came with potatoes but no veg, so I probably should have ordered as a side, but never mind. I'm very careful with swordfish as I love it, but only when it's fresh and never frozen, so I checked it was fresh before I ordered it. I was very pleasantly surprised when it came, it certainly appeared fresh, was cooked well, juicy and tasty. Rather smothered in a tomato based sauce but overall I enjoyed it, as did my companions. We were told the chef was the same one as ever, so the food should be just as good as ever. The menu has changed though, and choice is more limited than previously, although there were quite a few specials (of which the swordfish was one at only £11.95) The wonderful bread and oils has sadly gone. Prices very reasonable overall and service very good too. It was a Saturday night and not completely full, and reading earlier reviews perhaps that not surprising. Whilst we were a little disappointed, mainly shocked actually, overall it hasn't put me off going again. We didn't have any of the bad experiences others have described, so hopefully the new management have taken all the criticism on board and will continue to do so. If they don't then this restaurant will go downhill very quickly as the people of Rugby won't put up with it! So, new management, I hope you will listen to constructive feedback, adapt and improve because I for one don't want you to disappear!

What has Mr Ahmed (new owner) done to La Margherita? What was a lovely family restaurant that served seasonal, mediterranean food has turned in to a quasi Italian with a limited menu. Our arrival experience was mediocre, having to say our name 4 times to be acknowledged that we did indeed have a reservation in the almost empty restaurant... we were whisked off to the worlds smallest table for four (thankfully there was only 3 of us so one of us had room to move their arms to get the sorry food to their mouth).Coats were snatched away and menus shoved at us! given the 5 nanoseconds to review the menus we were being harried for our drinks order - settling on an Argentinean Pinot Noir we were given a Chilean Pinot - ah well, same continent! Our immediate observation was how cheap the items were and commented on this... we would soon learn why!The bread basket that comes with the 'complimentary soup' was incredible - 5 wafer thin slices of a part baked baguette - no self respecting Italian would have this in their establishment - trying to make the most of this meagre offering of bread we used the 'complimentary' oil and balsamic - the balsamic certainly wasn't from Modena - more like Lidl - it was so thin you could actually see through it!Misto Fritto - sounded lovely on the menu, and if you like 5 small pieces of chewy, greasy fish products it really is for you - for those with taste buds it really isn't! Scallops in garlic sauce - quite possibly the chewiest and most flavourless scallop ever to have graced a kitchen (served on a movenpick dessert plate, it's all in the detail). They did manage to heat up some cherry tomatoes and put them on bread for the 3rd starter without completely destroying it to be fair! The mains were little better - everything is swamped in a generic sickly sauce - only the colours change - one was fluorescent orange the other a putrid brown, if the base ingredients of the dish were of any quality or not you wouldn't be able to tell for the taste and texture of the sauces lining your mouth over take everything!Dessert was the highest point of the meal - one ball of strawberry ice-cream with only a few ice crystals in it, a cheese board with pickled onion flavoured biscuits (Seriously!!!) and a brioche (French) with a vanilla filling...Add this to the waitresses who either shout at you in a way that a despot dictator would be proud of or the mumbling of a cripplingly shy person...We pointed out the food was dire but no allowance was made on the bill - the one highlight of the whole evening was a waiter who asked about the food, when I said it wasn't that good he said 'would you say it was lacklustre'? and that was from the staff!!!Save your money, don't go there, save yourself the experience of such disappointment!

I have been to the La margherita on a number of occasions and been very happy with the food and service, however the good reputation the restaurant did have with myself and my three dining companions has been flushed down the toilet which is exactly where the food (and I use that word in the loosest possible terms) belongs. The starters of Mozzarella wrapped with prosciutto wine reduction, salad leaves, and blistered grapes, Bruschetta style cherry tomatoes blushed in oven with olive oil, in garlic, basil and diced mozzarella on toasted Ciabatta bread were cold and tasteless. Then came the mains albeit 1 hour 20 minutes later:- 3 fillet steaks one rare and two medium rare and a monk fish. The steaks came out in a sea of sauce the you can only presume was there to disguise the very poor meat that was definitely not fillet steak, side sides of steak chips and fresh mixed seasonal veg were straight out of the frozen section of Iceland , oh and by the way fried and boiled to within and inch of their sorry lives but still cold!! Then the final nail in the coffin was the Monk fish described in the menu as "Roasted Monkfish, Cooked in a mornay cream sauce. Served with Pilaf rice" again the monk fish what little there was (three small bits no bigger than a chicken Mc Nugget) was drowned in a mornay sauce that again was cold and bland. Upon complaining the waiter was very apologetic and explained that the usual chef was on holiday and would be returning tomorrow, just what you want to hear!!. The waiter offered my friend the opportunity to talk to the chef in the kitchen to which he agreed. The chef admitted the monk fish was poor and explained they had ran out of fish and he had tried to serve what bits he had left, my friend returned to the table asked for the bill, they tried to charge the full cost this was promptly rejected and an agreement was come to regarding how much should be paid. We left very disappointing as did the two ladies behind up and the table of 8 beside up who also were lest than happy with the food. I have never written a bad review for any restaurant I have eaten in but I felt compelled to pen my words to any iunsuspecting diner. In short it will be a cold day in hell before I return to La margherita.

Been there at least 5 times in the past and always been decent or excellent, but after my experience on Saturday I will not be returning EVER again. Went with a group of 4 and we all have said the same. Arriving I was surprised to see the place half empty as it used to always be full on a Saturday evening. Shown to our seats nicely enough, drinks order taken quick enough. Starters came out again quickly enough but were really below par - chicken strips were more like frozen dunking dinosaurs, Bruschetta was the worst I have ever had. Then we waited another hour and a half for our mains, which I would never have ordinarily done but the company was fab so the time flew by. I think we were all starting to feel fed up with the amount of time it was taking when the mains finally came out, that's when my husband and friends husband hit the roof, the food was awful - two medium stakes were blue to rare at best, served with a hot sauce and salad??? But it was our friends fish that tipped us over the edge (wish I had taken a photo) it was three miniscule chunks not a fillet of fish as advertised, on asking to speak to the manager we were told he was too busy and if we wanted to speak with him we would have to go in the kitchen (really!!!) our friend did and was told that they had almost run out of his chosen fish so he had all that was left - and they were planning on charging him full price £13 for this, outrageous. By all accounts the regular chef was on holiday but that does not excuse their gutter like morals, at charging people full price for the left overs. We did get money taken off for the sides which were just frozen chips and frozen veg that I could do better at home and the fish but we were still £100 out of pocket due to being in there so long thus consuming wine and beers at premium prices. Real shame as used to be a fab little place - now the service, food, attitude and moral compass appears to have gone with the previous owner, there is no way you will see me in there again unless I here it is under new management, typing this has made me angry all over again. Do not go there.

We have loved La Margherita for years and have brought friends and family here as our first choice. We even had a meal for 50 hosted here the night before our wedding 3 years ago which was absolutely amazing.Unfortunately Maria, the friendly and amazing manager is gone, as is the previous owner. The thing we used to notice was the lack of staff turnover over the years. Now, the only waitress has been on the job for one week. The new owner was in the kitchen, working really really hard. He is a nice guy. And my food was excellent. But the service was hard work. One younger lad salvaged the evening by keeping us topped up with drinks and water, but even the basics of serving are not understood by staff. The plates were just handed to us across the table like we were having pizza on the sofa. Our bill was about 30 pounds per person so one would expect a decent level of service. We had to ask for bread, ask for vegetables that used to all come with meals. We even asked for a whisky and were told they didn't have a particular brand. When we left it was clearly there on the shelf. I do hope someone takes over, brings Maria back and gets this place back into shape because it will be a great loss to Rugby if it carries on being an imitation of it's former self.

Upon arriving we were shown to our seats by a waitress whom took our order half an hour had passed when our food had arrived. Our food was absolutely awful completely overcooked. we had called the waitress over to discuss the problem with our food she was way too busy on her mobile phone we were trying to speak with the waitress regarding our problem. Her attitude was disgusting was very rude still on her mobile phone i must say then we was told we was disturbing her phone call either eat the food or dont bother. I was extremely upset was no sign of any manager despite me repeatedly asking to speak with the owner. We ended up walking out & not paying the bill in all the years & many restaurants i have been this is the worst possible i wouldnt feed that food they serve to an animal. The owner of this establishment needs to clean up his act or simply close down the business i cannot see this restaurant lasting very much longer.

My partner had booked this table for us and I was really looking forward to going out. I didn't know where we were going and I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived as I had never eaten here before. We were shown to our table, left with menus then waited for 10 minutes or so before our drink order was taken. We were then given some complimentary soup by another waitress, so that was also a pleasant surprise. However, we then waited for a good 20 minutes until our food order was taken by another member of staff ( lovely young lad ) but we were giving it the benefit of the doubt as it was very, very busy. Whilst waiting we had noticed a fair few people walking in, sitting down and then leaving after about 15 minutes. Then we noticed that on all the tables around us, no one had any food ! By this time our starters had arrived and were nice enough, but nothing amazing and nothing that we couldn't cook ourselves at home. People then started to complain to the young lad - all other staff had disappeared - including the girl who appeared to quit on the spot !!! Gradually all the people who were waiting for their food started to get up and walk out without even paying , despite asking for their bill ! We tried to wait it out thinking it would get better, the guy who looked like he was in charge then bought mine - I think he'd cooked it - it was nothing like it was supposed to be ! And my partners hadn't even been cooked I don't think. I tried one bite, we got up and walked out. Leaving behind a restaurant that was full when we arrived, now deserted. We were there a total of nearly two hours and all we'd had was a starter and a drink. Totally unprofessional, I felt so sorry for the poor young lad who looked like he'd been left to deal with all the angry patrons, when he'd been nothing but helpful. This restaurant had good reviews, my partner always makes good choices and researches places beforehand, so I'm not quite sure what was going on. However, we shall not be returning and we shall not be recommending. I just hope that young waiter takes a leaf out of the waitresses book and jumps off that sinking boat quickly !

This evening we went to La Margherita in Rugby. Ordering drinks and food went alright, although a bit clumsy with the drinks, and the starters came within 15 minutes. They tasted amazing and were of good size. Then, the problems started. Two of the four main courses came after about 40 minutes. 25 minutes later, and after asking several times the other two came. There was no communication apart from signalling 'one more minute' from a distance, and an offered complementary drink never arrived. The served main courses were amazing though - compliments. The staff appeared to have no idea what they were doing. Apart from one waiter, who was very friendly, correct and also ashamed of the whole happening. Several people left their tables due to the poor service.Apparently the restaurant recently got a new owner, who didn't seem to be in the restaurant. Another (experienced, it seemed) staff member quit the work on spot and left. I sincerely hope he can solve this mess and get this restaurant back to the good reputation it once had. The food is of that level already.

Restaurant looks good, but unfortunatly a unskilled group of staff don't know how to run a restaurant. Ordering and starters are good, but when it came to the main course they failed to deliver 2 meals for a table of 4. After 25/30 minutes the missing couverts where delivered. Vage appologies and complementary drinks where offered....but not delivered. Several tables arround us didn't get any service and dicided to leave.....with or without ordering. After 10 more minutes decided to leave and offered the last (good) staff to partially pay for the suprisingly good quality food.We noticed that one employee quitted her job on the spot. Complements to the cook and one member off staff.A big dislike for the new owner who didn't show the guts to explain the situation or offer an excuse.Act and organise your team, or close your restaurant as it isn't worth visiting.

Very nice ambience, bright without being extravagant. Very pleased with the food. The bread was obviously fresh and the garlic bread crisp. Had the mackerel fillet starters, absolutely spot on. Shared a lamb shank, lamb tagine and a roast duck between three of us - the flavours were a delight for the palate. Portions were large, so only regret is that we had to give the desserts a miss! Maybe next time...The staff deserve special mention. Warm and friendly, but unobtrusive. Could certainly serve as a role model for many other restaurants.

La Margherita is really a hidden family-run gem in Rugby. Looks quite unobtrusive from the outside but inside it's cosy, clean, modern and above all has fantastic food at unbelievably low prices. When I see people standing outside looking at the menu and wondering whether to go in, I just want to say to them "Go in, the food is some of the best in Rugby!"Mains range from £8 'ish to the most expensive, which, if I remember rightly is around £14.75 (for the duck). I would describe the food as Italian with a Moroccan twist with some interesting flavours and variations to suit any taste. Although the menu is not huge I can practically guarantee you that whatever you choose you won't be disappointed. They serve wonderful (complimentary) home made bread with oils to start, good range of wines reasonably priced (house white is fine) and watch out you may need a doggy bag to take your food home - you certainly won't want to leave it!Service is first class as well, and with a great atmosphere too, I cannot imagine why anyone would want to go to one of the chains, such as Prezzo or Pizza Express. In comparison to LM, they are overpriced and fall far below the standard set by LM.

I have been going to this restaurant for 10 years and sad to say it was a very disappointing evening. We booked at 8:30 but had to wait until 9:00 for our table to be ready.Several of the dishes on the menu and specials were unavailable. One of our meals was terrible (and I mentioned this and wasn't charged for it) Other meals were underwhelming especially the beef provencal which was spaghetti with a lump of meat and gravyHowever the NOISE in the place is unbearable. The acoustics mean that the noise level is deafening. I have mentioned this before and it would not be difficult to fix but the evening was spoilt as no-one on our table of 4 could have a conversation.Very, very sad and disappointing

This restaurant has been going for years and I have eaten there many times, but not for a long while. Have always thought it a bit middle of the road but overall good value. Was pleasantly surprised to see that the menu had moved on from being primarily pasta based, and although small was very varied. We were a large party (French class, Christmas outing) and it always difficult to produce and serve meals for large numbers, but I have to say my meal was delicious, as was I believe everybody else's. The exception was one lady, whose fillet steak was overdone (best to ask for it rare, this is not France or Belgium), but it was replaced promptly on request. They ran out of some puddings and not everybody had their first choice, me included, but no matter my second choice was delicious.Don't expect large portions - I hate it anyway when you are given so much that food is left on the plate. I'll bet the majority of the ladies although local had not eaten there before, but even the lady who sent her steak back said she would be coming again.Probably I should be rating this as four star, but I have added one because catering for a large party (14) is difficult. Well done to the staff and especially the chef. The biggest surprise of all was the reasonableness of the bill at the end.

This restaurant looks nothing from the outside have passed it loads of times and not even noticed it. However once you get through the doors the dining experience, service and staff are truely amazing. I had lamb shank that fell from the bone and poached pear in chocolate for pudding, around the table we all had different dishes none disappointed . The Romanian waitress was attentive, funny and very informative they have a lot of Moroccan dishes and Turkish influenced spices many if which I had not encountered before. They were all explained an educational evening as well.

A friend invited me to a "special meal" out to celebrate some good fortune that had come his way. So we chose La Margherita to go out to. And it was a very good choice. There is a lovely, olde world ambience in the restaurant and service was very attentive, although the young waitress could have been better informed regarding the menu. My friend is lactose intolerant and Marie came personally to discuss the dessert menu with him and then altered the dessert slightly to accommodate his allergy. Well done. Full marks for that.We chose not to have wine as neither of us are drinkers - I plumped for water with ice and lemon and my friend had a beer. the food was great, generous helpings and very tasty. I had the Provencal De Bouef , and my friend had the Morrocan lamb with couscous. The choclate puds - beautifully presented were good too. It did not look much, but it was more than enough because it was very rich.I would definitely go back again. A lovely evening out.Total cost - just over £40

When I read other reviews I often wonder if we are all talking about the same place. My wife picked this one as she had heard about it from work, the one thing which sticks in my mind is, indifferent. There is a worn out air about the place, paper table cloths add to this, the food was at best, OK the service slow to glacial, the price for what it was, very high, would we go back, a resounding no.

A couple of friends had praised this place, both of whom do not suffer fools when it comes to dining, I therefore had little or not doubt that a visit would disappoint. We arrived and were cheerfully and promptly seated at a table in this airy, yet eloquently styled restaurant, which was definitely a refreshing change from other overly claustrophobic, intimidating, almost clinical interiors. Unfortunately both myself and my fellow diner were driving and therefore had to pass on sampling any of the wines, although at first glance the wine list looked intriguing. One of the efficient and polite waitresses bought our drinks and allowed ample time for us to digress over the menu, which had variety but equally refrained from being dauntingly vast. We ordered starters and mains and were shortly after presented with lovely fresh rustic bread and a selection of oils. Our starters came rather swiftly perhaps because we'd order the same dish; Pan Fried King Scallops Marinated in Ginger, Lemongrass and lemon on a bed of spiced cumumber tagliatelle, which were perhaps a little over priced at nearly £8 but delicious and incredibly fresh nonetheless. Definitly worth a treat. Soon after our mains arrived, both looked mouthwatering, my friend's recommendation of the Daube au boeuf was most definitely good advice. Beautifully cooked beef in a rich gravy on a bed of linguine. The pairing of caramelised oranges worked really well and complimented the gathering of inspiring Mediterranean flavours. Whilst the mains and starters left us both satisfied we felt impelled to opt for something from the deserts board. Which was a board, in my mind a good indication of freshly made rather than frozen offerings. Again ordering two of the same dish we opted for the Polenta cake, which was a sweet treat without tipping one over the 'uncomfortably stuffed' edge. La Margerita will almost certainly on my repeat visit list.

Visited this evening with my partner, his parents and a couple of their friends and wow! Fresh warm bread for the table was lovely and the chilli oil was lovely. We all had different starters and all agreed they were lovely, I had the fritters which were so lovely and the salad was freshly dressed. Myself and two others had the belly pork... oh my goodness, wow. Best main meal I have had in so long. I usually get envious that my partner has the better meal but not tonight, my only suggestion was slightly more of that amazing pork and wine sauce. I didn't have dessert so couldn't comment on that but overall it was fantastic and never felt rushed through our meal. We will be certainly be returning for that pork! Thank you for a great meal and evening!!

Tried this restaurant for the first time on Sat eve. We booked but there were a couple of empty tables. Firstly on the plus side, service was good - efficient and friendly. The wait for food was about right with no rush and time to chat between courses without wondering where the food was.The food in general was fine - my husband had the duck off the specials menu which he was happy with and i had the chicken ragout which was full of flavour (less sure why there were a load of carrots dumped on top, this was not mentioned as part of the dish on the menu). Generally good value. So why only average? Well it was the ambience that would put us off returning. It has been decorated in a contemporary noughties way but also felt old fashioned and sterile in another way. Paper tablecloths, old fashioned style menus and furniture. It just wasn't very mediterranean and there was no atmosphere. It may suit other people but we wanted music playing, bread and oil served on wooden boards, mediterranean veggies rather than boring root veggies and for it to be a bit more funky or quirky. So recommended if you just want a traditional style restaurant with reasonable food but we were just expecting a bit more.

Menu more limited than I remembered but our dishes - lamb shank, gnocchi and falafel - very tasty and generously portioned. A group of us decided to visit 'La Margherita ' for our quiz team meal out! It was a Saturday night, and the place was busy!! We had agreed to eat later than we originally stated, as it suited the restaurant better, but needless to say we still waited over an hour before the starter even arrived! There were 10 of us eating, so our orders were varied, but there was really only one person who could honestly say he was happy with his meal!I had the grilled chicken starter, which I would liken to prepackaged slice meat you could purchase in a supermarket!!! This was followed by ribeye steak that was extremely chewy! It was supposed to have a bordelaise sauce to accompany it, but it had been used so sparingly that it was unnoticeable!! The best part of the meal were the vegetables !! I hadn't been to La Margherita for quite some time, and I don't think I'll be racing back! There are far superior restaurants in Rugby!

This return visit confirmed this 'Continental Restaurant' as being a cut above the rest. The menu is interestingly different; the usual stock items do not figure strongly on Maria's menu, which makes a welcome change. I love the olive oils to start off this memorable dining experience I had lamb shank which was excellent whilst my wife happily consumed her veggie meal. Puds were lovely too. The people on the next table were over the moon with their food too.The ambience level rates highly with the 'just right' level of service.Prices were fair, both for the food and wine. I can gladly say I'll never have the displeasure of entering what can only be described as the rudest and unhygienic restaurant in the midlands! I'm not one to write reviews but felt this was a must... Upon entering my wife and I witnessed an argument between what seemed like the restaurant manager and waitress, this was my first concern! When seated by the waitress *with mascara running down her eyes* Sat us on a table with a paper table cloths? Surely for a fine dining restaurant paper tablecloths are the ultimate sin? Cut a long story short the food was over cooked, both steaks were cold! It didn't seem like a good time to complain as the waitress was once again being told off! I politely called the manager over who we now know as Maria, and quite frankly I came to a complete silence as she approached our table suddenly became lost for words, the body odour from this lady was embarrassingly noticeable for my wife and I! As you can imagine we skipped desserts paid the bill and left! Definitely won't be returning to la margarita again!

I visited La Margherita with my partner for dinner in March 2014. Despite what the Italian name might suggest, the cuisine from La Margherita takes in the the area around the Mediterranean, offering a broad choice of meals from tagine to pasta to steaks, which is very welcome. When we arrived (9pm on a Friday), the restuarant was surprisingly quiet, though I have seen it busier. We were served promptly and with courtesy. Portions were generous - indeed, my partner's steak was really rather large and she was unable to finish it. I had the tagine, which was warming and hearty: though the lamb could perhaps have been a little more tender, that is a relatively minor quibble. The price of the meal was entirely reasonable. I enjoyed myself and will no doubt return.
