I feel I must leave a review for this little gem, as I visit at least once a week. A fantastic family restaurant, serving delicious, fresh authentic Italian food at affordable prices. I ve probably had every pasta dish in the menu twice over and enjoyed every meal.

Just stopped in here on the off chance on the way home, was welcoming and liked the rustic feel of the place. Food came reasonably fast, but the food itself wasn’t good. My partner had the steak with mushrooms, first she asked for medium rare, it was well done. But the taste was the real issue, meat tasted off, I tried a bit and had to spit it out. She sent it back and asked not to have another as she was now completely put off from eating. The waiting seemed offended that we’d politely complained, but the steak was inedible. I had lasagne with Garlic bread, the Lasagne was ok, I’ve had much better but the was passable. The garlic bread was ok too. We wouldn’t eat here again.

I have been a few times and was lovely... BUT I WILL NOT BE GOING AGAIN... spent over £350 for 11 of us for a family birthday meal... I pre ordered the starters mains and sides as its a small place just to help them out, I paid for food order upfront.... after 20 mins we were asked if we wanted a drink.. After over and hour the starters arrived.. prawns were frozen and had a hair in the dish.. we didn't make a fuss but sent it back, when asked why we told them, the reply wasn't oh dear I'm so sorry.. it was it must be your hair it's not our fault... noone at our table had black hair... it then got beyond a joke after 2 hours we asked where the mains were, they are coming was the reply... at which point I said this isn't good enough...andcwas told I'm just a helper I don't work here, speak to the boss... I asked for the boss and he never arrived... steak and chicken dinners didn't have veg and potatoes with them just the meat, which was eaten by the time the veg etc arrived.. the portion sizes have gone considerably smaller than they used to be... when paying the drinks bill asked to see the owner again... nope didn't come out and not even an apology let alone a refund for the frozen hairy prawns was offered... absolutely appalled by the unprofessional, couldn't care less attitude... they had been paid and didn't care... totally ruined my birthday meal... this place has gonedown hill considerably....

Awful trip here, took two hours for the food, hair in the starter which was blamed on us as apparently the chefs were all bald but when I walked out to get some fresh air they all had black hair which was in the food. Food was awful bland and our sides arrived 10 minutes after the mains arrived , when we made a complaint we kept being told it’s our fault. Avoid it. If I could rate this 0 I would.

Booked ahead as that's needed for CoVid. Lovely welcome, cosy environment. Ribs as starter were fantastic, almost as good as Enzo's from 20 years ago. Fillet cooked wonderfully, cut through like butter. Tortellini was hot and warmingly tasty. House white very quaffable. Definitely go again. But.... chips were frozen fries not homemade. Pasta wasn't made fresh nor was the sauce. £2 for bread and butter which is needed for the rib sauce. Hubby had finished starter and main before his first pint. Specials option chocolate pudding frozen then microwaved just like the sticky toffee version, not even fresh cream as an option. £65 for 2 courses each and a few drinks and finished in less than 90 minutes. Next time maybe less speed and home made pizzas. Shame overall as great location and fabulous memories of Enzo in years gone by.

We had a table booked last night for 4 people, when we arrived they only had us down for 2. My partner recalls saying on the phone it would be 4 or 5 and they wanted to know exact numbers so he said 4. The staff are not attentive and had us waiting in the doorway for a good 5 minutes before coming over, despite walking past us on numerous occasions. The waiter pushed two tables together and left some menus on it, we took this as indication to sit down as he just walked off. Two tables arrived after us, and had drinks and their order taken almost immediately, the waiter didn’t come over to our table. Around 10 minutes after we arrived, a couple who had only just got their meals angrily left the restaurant and we overheard something being “disgusting”, we are assuming they left without paying. None of the staff in the restaurant reacted to this, or tried to stop them leaving which we felt was very strange. After waiting around 20 minutes with not even a glance from the waiter to see if they could take our order, despite clearing the plates from the table next to us, we left the restaurant. Again, no interest from the staff as to why we were leaving. The restaurant is very small, but when we arrived there were only 3 other tables in so there was really no excuse for such poor customer service. There are also no social distancing measures in place.

Named after the she-wolf that suckled Romulus and Remus, founders of the city of Rome, La Lupa is a little gem of an Italian restaurant which I'm delighted to have on my doorstep. It has a timeless atmosphere, complete with candle-dripped Chianti bottles, maps of Italy, and photos of Valentino Rossi! The food is not overambitious, and always tasty, and the staff are warm and good-humoured. Do give them notice if you're going with a large party, though - it's only small!

Went tonight for my birthday meal, when we first entered we were ‘greeted’ by the waiter. I use the term lightly as he just pointed to a table in the corner and grunted. However the food was absolutely beautiful. We had garlic bread with cheese to start which was the best garlic bread I’ve ever had. For main I had carbonara and my partner had lasagne. We both found the dishes to be tasty and very filling.

I've been visiting here frequently with friends, family and as a couple for many many years. I'll tell anyone and everyone how great the food is, I've never been disappointed. We tend to always have the bruscetta. It's fresh, tasty and there's always plenty of food on the plate. Another favourite dish are the garlic mushrooms which are in a tomato sauce. Two great starters.Mains on this visit were steak rossinni medium rare for me and my fella had the fettucinni della casa.My steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious. I'm assuming by the empty plate the pasta was a success too. We always love to complete our meal with a coffee. They serve great strong espresso which finishes off the meal nicely. It's a small run family business not Bella italia and for me that's the attraction.

I ordered Steak in a red wine sauce for my main, but just got a steak on a plate with some vegetables in a side dish, this was absolutely beautiful, but not what I ordered. I booked a table for myself and my partner for 7:30pm as she had always wanted to try it. We walked and we were met by an elderly man who sat us down, surroundings are dated, there were several people dining. We asked for menu then the old man turned to us and said wait! He came back a minute or so later with menus then said they're wrong ones.. Wait!Ignorant to say the least. We ordered drinks and received flat Tonic water and flat Beer.. I ordered the Ribs for starter, my partner had Garlic mushrooms, my ribs were in a sticky burnt BBQ sauce, the mushrooms looked like dishwater. The Garlic bread was just poorly done, chunks of garlic as apposed to minced. My partner's Tortellini main was rock hard and wasn't much better, and I had a lovely sirloin cut steak, cooked to it's death and not the rare I ordered. The peppercorn sauce was burnt, the carrots like bullets, roast potatoes like they had been microwaved several times and Broccoli was mush.Never have had a worse dining experience anywhereI wanted to just walk out n leave the bill on the table. The food was like it had been cooked by a learner with no experience.Absolutely Disgusting

My partner and I went here last night and I can honestly say that it was the worst dining experience I've ever had. From the moment we walked in it didn't go well. We were seated at a table with crumbs all over it. We sat there for approx 10 minutes before I asked for a menu and was rudely told to wait with a hand hels up in my face. At that moment I almost walked out but as I've wanted to try this place for a while now I just kept my cool. We were asked what we wanted to drink in a rude manner. I ordered a tonic water which when it came was flat. We ordered our food which came in record time which tells me it's not freshly cooked. My partner had the ribs which he'd read up on the place and everyone raved about the ribs. Well unfortunately his ribs were burnt as was the sauce. My garlic mushrooms came they were in a wishy washy tomato sauce with largeish pieces of garlic, not a nice experience. Then came our mains again in record speed. My partner ordered a rare streak which was actually cooked well done. His peppercorn sauce was also burnt. His accompanying veg well that was either rock hard or totally over cooked. I ordered pasta parcels filled with meat in a creamy sauce. Well I got what I ordered but my god it was terrible. The meat parcels were so dry it was like eating sawdust. The sauce was also dry and had a strange cheese taste. It took us almost 10 minutes to get our bill. We were in and out in 55 minutes, I think this is our quickest dining experience EVER. People don't go there, save your money and go to McDonald's instead it'll be a better dining experience too.

Visited La Lupa with my mum as a birthday treat, what a mistake! Food is OK. Had two pasta dishes as mains which were nice, garlic bread which was edible but I've had nicer elsewhere (including off the shelf at Tesco). Pino Grigio, OK but overpriced at £20. All of which could of been forgiven for a nice dining experience, but unfortunately it wasn't.The service at La Lupa was absolutely horrendous! I am at a loss why there are so many reviews saying how friendly it is? No smile from the one member of staff in the hour and a half we were there, no 'how was your meal?', no 'would you like anything else?'. All this resulting in an atmosphere that wasn't very pleasant and actually quite awkward. I will not be visiting again nor would I ever recommend.

My wife and I booked a table at La Lupa for 7pm on a Friday evening. This was our first (and only) visit to this establishment. On arrival we were disappointed to note there were already 2 large groups seated, drinking copiously. We were shown to a postage stamp sized table near to the bar. The noise and general disturbance from the groups was very invasive and at times actually prevented us from holding a conversation. However this was as nothing compared to the "food" we were served. We both ordered calamari to start followed by spaghetti and clams. Two staple, pretty basic Italian dishes that any restaurant should be able to cook well. Not at la Lupa. The calamari were covered in thick, greasy batter that tasted of rancid vegetable oil and once through that, eating the calamari themselves was like chewing rubber. They were served with (I assume) a garlic mayonnaise dip although, as it tasted of absolutely nothing it was hard to tell. A very unpleasant dish. This was followed by a small dish of supposedly spaghetti and clams. The spaghetti was overcooked and chewy and the clams were practically non existent. The whole thing was smothered in a tomato based sauce which again was devoid of any discernible flavour. Another unpleasant dish.We drank an average bottle of Pinot Grigio and the bill for this most unpleasant of dining experiences came to a frankly unbelievable £50.I accept the presence of 2 loud parties on the night was unlucky and on another occasion the ambience may be much better. I do not however accept the quality of the food provided. In my opinion, La Lupa is not a restaurant. It is a business that serves poor quality, bought-in food, stored in a freezer and "cooked" in a microwave. I cannot believe that the food we were served was prepared and cooked to order on the premises using fresh ingredients. We left after less than 1 hour feeling like we had just been mugged and we will not return.

What a lovely no nonsense no frills fantastic authentic food place. First time I have visited, certainly not the last. The food was exceptional, thank you for a lovely, relaxing evening. Started with the mozzarella special starter, my partner had the gorgeous garlic bread. On to the mains, spaghetti bolognese was perfect and the esotico pizza lovely. Thank you for a lovely early evening meal.

I have been coming here for years and never had a meal that has not been perfection on a plate. There is plenty of choice and even my grandchildren who are fussy eaters clear their plates. Sometimes you may have to wait a while in between courses as they don't have a lot of staff waiting on as it is a small restaurant. You are always made to feel welcome and I for one will be back again.

We came here as a family again and once again was not let down one tiny bit. Food - delicious, service- tip top, atmosphere - just how it should be. This is just like being in Italy, traditional, no over the top fancy frills and food cooked by an Italian chef and served by the Italian owner. Thank you La Lupa!

My wife and I dine here at least once a week, also usually taking my Mother every wed.The food is always excellent, without being too fancy, very good choice, the wines are very good also, and again a good choice,(if you like red,you can't go far wrong with a litre of the house red).Renato, the owner is a very nice friendly chap, the resteraunt maybe on the small side but it all adds to the ambiance, overall you would be very hard pressed to find anywhere much better in Stalybridge....

Have eaten here a few times now. It's a lovely little place which looks like how I imagine a little restaurant would on the back streets of Italy. The menu is extensive and the desserts are great. My partner adores the calzone and my current favourite dish is the fillet steak with brandy sauce & tiramisu to finish - will definitely be making another visit soon :)

Felt like a little piece of Italy. Authentic food, surroundings and ambience. I ordered a Caprese Salad to start, and the portion size was generous. Followed this with Amatriciana but asked for pasta instead of spaghetti....this was no problem at all. Would highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to returning!

A midweek chill out meal. Unsure what to do..had a friend who lives in Qatar and can eat 5 star every night. Brought her to this lovely little Italian. We both enjoyed muscles to start and my god..the sauce was delicious. We then had traditional lasagne and seafood risotto. Loved the whole meal. Service perfect. It's another little gem. Decor is a bit retro, but who cares? To be honest, a bit of character is nice these days!

Me and my partner visited La Lupa last Saturday night and I have to say it's hands down the best Italian Restaurant we have been to. Inside is lovely and quaint and reminded us both of our recent trip to Rome, very relaxed atmosphere and Friendly service. We had the ribs and mushrooms to start which I haven't stopped craving since as they were that tasty, and a pasta dish for main -cooked to perfection and all reasonably priced. The chef Giuseppe and waiter Renato are both from Italy which adds to the authentic experience! We simply cannot wait to go back again.

We were there with only 2 other tables for two so 6 diners in total. Service was hit and miss. Drinks came quickly and did the food. Food (steak Diane) had a massive piece of gristle at the side and was ugly looking. Tasted ok but did not look nice at all. Stater was ok but we only had salad and a garlic bread. My husbands steak seemed to be a better quality. We had to ask for desert menu. And them go to the little bar area to order. I was also sat in a really draughty area.I would return as for Stalybridge it is OK. However a bit on the pricey side.Table cloth was not clean p, had to ask them to change it, had previous diners spaghetti sauce on.

My husband and I live near to La Lupa and we've been regulars for a few years now. At first look many people may not be impressed by the no frills appearance of the restaurant itself. But having frequented many 'taverna' style restaurants in Greece and Spain etc., if you are the kind of person who likes the intimate, relaxed, no frills approach to eating, and can appreciate proper freshly prepared, delicious food, then I highly recommend you try it!All food is made by their fabulous chef, who cooks everything to order (I personally don't mind waiting for food if it's made to order, rather than slammed in a microwave like a lot of places). They have a small staff, and at times if it's busy, you may wait a while for your food. But I am a fan of sitting over a bottle of red wine and the food makes it well worth the wait. The staff are friendly and attentive, and since we've been a fair few times now, we have a bit of a rapport with the manager Ronato, and waitress Natalie. The complimentary Sambuca or Limoncello goes down a treat at the end of a meal! Ronato and his chef are both from Italy, so you don't get more authentic than that.My husband is a big fan of fillet steak, and pretty much every visit means he has this with the brandy and peppercorn sauce. He has had steak in NYC, Vegas, lots of places in the UK, and he always says the best one is at La Lupa. Cooked to perfection and exactly as you order it! I on the other hand prefer the seafood Risotto, and this is absolutely delicious. We've tried Lasagne, pizzas, Seabass, Salmon, plus many more dishes. And I can't say we have ever had a complaint about the quality and taste of the food. We tend to spend at least 2-3 hours in there, and usually have a starter, dessert and bottle of wine too. On average, for 3 courses each, plus wine and coffee, it's around £80, which I think is very reasonable. The ambience in the restaurant just takes me back to being in a little taverna in the Med, where you can nurse a few drinks, have good conversation, and enjoy great food. I've been to many other Italian places, including San Carlo, Piccolinos, Kroma etc. in Manchester, and Puccini's in Ashton, and while they are great, I'm personally not a fan of being swamped by staff at the table every 2 minutes. I prefer the relaxed atmosphere of La Lupa, and their food pips the others!

went with a party of ten-waited 20 minutes for a drinks order and nearly an hour to order food- given there were only another 9 diners that was appalling-food is not presented pretty but is tasty-the dining room is nothing to speak about and could be considered quaint if it was not for how awful the service is

If you are looking for a peaceful night with delicious Italian food then La Lupa is certainly the place for you. This restaurant should be by far the no.1 for the reason being that the chef never cooks a bad meal. The owner is extremely welcoming and is from Italy so he obviously knows the best cuisine. He is also very friendly. We would recommend to start either the meatballs or BBQ ribs and for the main it would be either pizza, pasta or steak.

We visited here last night (12th July) for a Birthday celebration, we had heard good things about the food here so was expecting to have a great dining experience.Once seated we waited about 15 minutes before we were asked for our drinks orders, then another 20 minutes before our food orders were taken, so we all skipped starters as time was getting on. The main course was really nice food, I had Sirloin (of course) there was a very large chunk of gristle on one side which should have been cut off in the kitchen after cooking, but it did not spoil the food, my friends had Pizza and various other dishes which they all enjoyed. MY only complaint would have been I did not get enough veg with my main, it was a small bowl, with one strand of Broccoli, a few carrot strips and a few potatoes - I am not a big guy but I am a good eater and like a decent potion, especially when its £16 for the dinner. After finishing dinner, they took the plates within a few minutes, but no one asked if we wanted desserts or coffees - eventually one of my friends went to get the dessert menu, and I wish they had not bothered - I ordered a Tiramisu, it was served in a tiny ramekin covered in whipped cream - it was not nice at all, it was nothing like any Tiramisu I have had anywhere in the world :/ I sent it back, it just tasted a bit strange was not what I was expecting, I was told everyone makes it differently ?? I have eaten Tiramisu all over the world and never before had it served in a ramekin :/ After that was sent back, again we waited 15/20 minutes for coffees, but no one came to ask if we wanted anything, so instead we asked for the bill, and left leaving no tip! None of us will be going back :/

Lovely place! Food is always spot on and lots to choose from. The steaks are always cooked to perfection and the wine is lovely too. The only negative thing is sometimes they pack the place out a bit too much so can be quite a squeeze and not enough staff to go around but only shows how popular and yummy it is if it's so busy!

We have been here a few times now, there is nothing that’s too much trouble for the staff always there to help and advise if your are u sure on what to have, And can give you good recommendations. As the saying goes “Enter as Strangers leave as friends..” this is true at this little gem of a restaurant. The food is always lovely and always has come out together when in a party which is a bonus... can’t recommend this place enough... it’s a must !!!

ad to ask for them back to use. Food portions are a little smaller but the food was ok/nice. What really left me feeling disappointed is that I asked to purchase several gift vouchers for family for meals as Xmas gifts, the waitress seemed really pleased with this and said she would send the manager over to sort this, only for her to come back and to be told I had to pay for them by cash? I'm not sure if this is the norm or what could be a valid reason for this, but I didn't have nearly £300 in cash on me. Suffice to say they lost out on a nearly £300 purchase because they wouldn't take a card payment.
