Rudest staff, horrible 1970s style over cooked food, a crying shame given the fabulous location. Avoid this place at all costs - unless you are some sort of masochist who enjoys long waits for soggy, fatty food and insolence from serving staff.

Sconsigliatissimo.

"Without it's gorgeous lakeside location in lovely Battersea Park this place would be bankrupt in a week. The food is either over or under cooked greasy-spoon style (though that's an insult to greasy spoons), the staff are so rude it's unbelievable, the service is slow and belligerent, and to add insult to injury, it's expensive. Such a waste of a great opportunity. Avoid it at all costs. Perhaps only through boycotting it will Wandsworth Council award the licence to someone who can turn it into somewhere people want to go. I wasn't the only person in the queue saying "worst cafe ever". Do yourself a favour and go anywhere but here!"

Unlike other recent reviewers, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at La Gondola after a drizzly and cold walk around Battersea Park. We were impressed by the range of italian food on offer at the self service bar and all four of us went for pasticcio, a baked delicacy consisting mainly of layers of aubergine and cheese, With this we had the broccoli and roast veg (potatoes, carrots and peppers) we were offered. All in all it made for a welcome and filling lunch. It was a little oily but then it is difficult to avoid that with pasticcio. True it was reheated in a microwave but it was the kind of food that doesn't suffer for that and had the advantage of being presented piping hot. All four of our plates finished empty so it can't be bad!

We went there for a coffee latte and what we got was a watery bitter liquid . When I went back to complain politely the lady behind the till slammed 2 pounds on the counter and spoke to me in an angry manner. I paid 5 pound 30 pence for those two terrible tasteless things and I did not even get an apology or an offer for new coffees. I will never go back thereShame about the place as it's in a nice location. Wish there was proper food and coffee as I live nearby. Save yourself the regret and find another place to have a proper coffee and food.

Am in London for a few months looking after the grandson.Battersea Park is one of our favourite places..I normally go to the other cafe which is lovely.Yesterday we went to the zoo and arrived at the Gondola for lunch. Its incredibly dated and has horrid notices everywhere to thwart people. It is, incidently, illegal not to supply water if requested,. but undeterred I carried on..There is a choice of pasta or pizza and as a veggie I ordered the veg lasagne..with vegetables....Big mistake...It arrived stone cold which is no good for bacteria and was black Definately not freshly made. The veg was 3 old roast potatoes and 2 sprigs of broccoli...back it went.Second time round it looked even worse and I left it...8£ wasted but no hospital visit!.Serious problems there. If you are in the public eye wear clean chefs clothes and at least present your food hot and enticing to the eye and nose. The whole place could do with an environmental visit..I run a cafe myself and if my food was like that I would sack myself.

La Gondola has a monopoly as a sit-down food outlet in Battersea Park. I'm avoiding calling it a restaurant as the sign suggests because it is caught in a time-warp from a time when food was bad, re-heated rubbish, served by people who had no care, interest or pride in what they served. The location has so much more potential (look at the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen in Hyde Park) but it has been run down over years of under-investment. As a result, it spoils the park for visitors. Food - stale sandwiches stored in plastic boxes or re-heated hot optionsService - nothing to write home aboutFacilities - below par. (Note: single mens/ladies toilets means large queues at busy times. Not good when you're using the baby changing facility and can hear others justifiably complaining about the wait!Suggest avoiding this place!

Sitting opposite the boating lake in Battersea Park with both indoor and outdoor seating, this should be a real gem. But no, sadly it's quite disappointing. There is only one other restaurant in the park (far corner and much better) so they make full use of their captive market. The food is distinctly average (at best), and the inside is quite dark and does not appear to have seen a lick of paint in 20 years. The service was pleasant enough but only because of the prices they are charging. But what really gives it a low score is the several negative kill joy signs - no picnic here unless our food, 50p to use the toilet, 50p to use a card, £1 to have a smile... you get the picture.

DONT EVER GO THERE. I'm from a Mauritian/Chinese background and am more Italian than this place will ever be. We ordered a latte and a mocha. It was insipid and tasted of dishwater. I discretely mentioned to the lady that the coffee didn't taste very nice and could we have a new one. She was very rude and did not care that we didn't like it, as so many people go there because of it's location. I honestly don't know how they are still in business. She didn't make us another one or apologise. She took some money out the till and basically threw it at us. It wasn't even the full amount. It is not even worth a one star. Go to Pier Point cafe, we tried it after our awful experience. So much better.

Once I ordered a cup of tea and as it was so weak I asked for another teabag. The lady said I had to pay an extra 50p! The red label tea (later identified at Lidle) was even cheaper than the teabag she was asking me to pay for... but there is more. I went reluctantly there yesterday and ordered food.... oh no! The food looked okay, but the aubergine lasagne tasted, well 'odd' with a strange nondescript and the aubergine lasagne was swimming in grease, the pasta and meatballs was cardboard and dry edges. Oh dear, and after that I had to rush to the toilet with a stomach upset on the way to central London. I am trying to be kind to the unfortunate establishment, but they just don't seem to be improving and try as I might there always seems to be something major that makes me vow never, never to go back.

So I imagine the Italian owners of this establishment go together and gave serious consideration as to what would make this café memorable. They probably drew on their wealth of experience of dining in Venice and brought as much of this to Battersea Park as they could. I guess they created a list of must haves and dos and also another list of things to avoid. Like some bad made for television film the lists go mixed up and The Gondola was born. This café will make you an offer you should refuse.Where to start – the seating area inside puts me in mind of a communist era works canteen. Outside it looks like what you might expect from a communist era works outing to a local beauty spot. Several overflowing bins, grubby old picnic benches, crumbling tarmac under foot and a view of the green turgid waters of the boating lake, largely obscured by waist height weeds growing along the edge of the railing. I concede that the council owns the premises but these people seem to have made no effort to jolly it up whatsoever. Go to the café at the east end of the Serpentine if you want to see what can be achieved. The coffee is dreadful, the cakes are rock like and overpriced and the icecream looks almost radioactive. Service is surly, bordering on angry. Everything that Italy is well regarded for by way of café dining has been purposefully avoided here. We are told that Venice is sinking beneath the waves. I wish that the Gondola Café in Battersea Park would do so too, quick smart.

Bought coffe, ice cream, water for my kids, then my daughter was stung by a bee. I had to practically beg the surly, rude staff to give me some ice cubes. They gave me literally two ice cubes and acted like they had just done me a huge favour. Bbq stunk the place out with smoke. Truly horrible people and appalling overpriced produce. Heaven help you if you ask to fill a water bottle from their tap. Never again, avoid avoid avoid.

I have been in here a few times over the years for coffee but never for hot food. They had run out of our first choice of ciabatta so we decided to go for a portion of homemade meat lasagne and aubergine parmigiana - both served with roasted mix vegetable and broccoli. Both were really excellent quality and at £7 or thereabouts were very good value. THe tea was also good. The place is not very comortable and the food was warm rather than piping hot but the qualuty was far better than I had expected.

Lovely location by the boating lake in Battersea Park. However, that is the best thing about it. Food is pretty poor and the decor is dated. The whole place is plastered with signs telling you not to do things. Annoying to be charged a fee to use a debit card when I spent £20.I know it's a cafe in a park and it doesn't need to be fancy but come on!

The staff did their best 'under the circumstances'. School dinner standard? No much much worse. 50p charge to pay by card even when spending £17. Toilet not good. The furniture looks like it's sourced from an old eastern European mental institution and I would never go back.

Really enjoyable meal. The starters were excellent, mains great and loved the new tiramisu on the menu. Really loved that the chef came out to ask us about new dishes on the menu and how we enjoyed them. First time here but we will be back.

Me gusta aquí.

Food took way to long to get here and all the food was not hot, but warm to cold. Not happy at all. Tried to phone up about it but phone got put down on me. My pizza, fries and wings were all warm to cold and all my order took over 40 minutes to get to me, so all my order should be refunded.
