La Gondola in Wakefield

We phoned to see what time La Gondola was closing at and were told in 2 hours. We arrived 20 minutes later to be told, they were tired of cooking for the day, so were closing up. Never again will I step foot in there. Rude woman.

We entered the restaurant to a lady who didn't seem interested in us and tried sitting us right in the drafty doorway but we refused. It took 25 mins to order our food, after others being seated and ordering before us. Starter was OK, abit burnt but edable. The mains came and it was a tomato pizza when we ordered bbq, it was hard as rock, my partner refused to eat it which meant I either ate alone or didn't eat. We didn't go out to eat alone so I didn't eat mine either and the waitress was very rude saying they will not do anything about mine but would remove my partners from the bill. The bill came with everything on it. There was no communication at all. All in all bad service and medioca food. Will not return.

Been to this restaurant a few times before and it was lovley and I had highly recommended it, recently I have had a few people say they hadn't had the best meal but we gave it the benefit of the doubt, this visit we left without finishing the meals, the food I had ate made me sick. We had 2 adult lasagne, the pasta sheets disintegrated and the whole thing turned to mush. The taste was awful and left some weird after taste. We also had a childs spaghetti bolognese which is the one reliable thing she will eat, her first mouthful she said "tastes like sick" we tried to encourage her to eat it but knowing how bad it really did taste we couldn't make her eat it, we asked what she wanted instead of and she said she wanted to go for a proper spaghetti. The waitress came to see how our meal was and we explained we couldn't eat it and was not nice, the waitress and the chief was then arguing. Another note, they advertise larger/beer on tap, we ordered one kronenburg, we heard the can being opened and nothing was said about there not being anything on tap or he would have ordered a bottle. We will definitely not be returning.

We had an extended family Christmas meal on Saturday night. The restaurant was cold, the manager and the chef were loudly and visibly arguing with each other. The food was overly priced, too rich and covered in sauce. Portion sizes were extremely large - which resulted in half of the food being wasted. Reduce the menu, focus on 4-5 pizzas and 3-4 Pasta dishes!!

I couldn’t recommend this place enough, beautiful food, beautiful place and beautiful service. The lovely couple that run the place are just amazing, they made our night and we can’t wait to return, thank you very much! !!HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Visited with friends the other night, was made to feel so welcome and relaxed by the staff, and told to take our time whilst looking at the menu. The food portions was plentiful, reasonably priced and the staff were really attentive. It was my first visit but would definitely return!

came here for a meal was greeted by a lady which wasn’t all that welcoming in my opinion .. ordered a starter and main the starter was swimming in oil all I could honestly taste was oil so I left it unfinished well here comes the main .... it repeated on me that night far too many herbs and garlic it was over powering the flavour of the meat ... a growing business Which needs improvement by staff customer service ... a smile doesn’t hurt ! and also the chef going easy on the herbs oil and garlic! Menu has a good variety presentation wise was to standards I’ll agree

I used to live in Castleford, and always make a special detour to La Gondola when I head back from down South. The staff are always so lovely and attentive. The building itself is gorgeous, and I could quite happily eat my way through the menu as well!Particularly love the pastas - I hope this place stays open for a long time to come

This was the first time we have been to this restaurant and we took the family for an early dinner on a Saturday evening. When you walk in it knocks you back, absolutely wonderful inside and nothing like you would expect.We got a fabulous welcome from Josie and from the chef/owner who was brilliant.The menu is good. The food fabulous, from mussels to prawns to pizza to lasagne to lamb. All absolutely superb. The wife had a chocolate orange cake that she thought was utterly delicious.We shall most definitely return.

I found La Gondola, by chance, a few weeks ago when I was in the area on business, and was completely thrown by the selection and quality of the food available and the service.Manager, Gus I think, was on top of his game juggling continuously between ensuring everybody was being looked after by his team and balancing the delivery of starters, main courses, and desserts, on time, every time.I spoke to the chef, Luigi, later in the evening, and found that he has serious history with some of the big restaurant names, nationally, and internationally, and it showed. But that’s only half the story....I found myself an hour away on business, outside Doncaster, last Friday and found that the holiday traffic updates were convincing myself that I needed a break, and that I should go stay in the area and try La Gondola one more time, When I arrived I asked Gus to chose something I had never had before and he used me as the guinea pig for their new chicken dish which was about to join the list in the extensive menu and I have to say it was one of, if not the best, meals I have had on my worldwide travels.If you live in the area, or find yourself staying in the area, you must give La Gondola a try, you won’t be disappointed! Can’t wait for my next excuse to travel to the area.

First time here. i will certainly come again friendly and welcoming. good selection on the menue and the food is hot and tasty. all round good

Went for Sunday lunch today. There's a choice of traditional Sunday lunch or Italian style Sunday lunch. We opted for traditional this time. But I'm already planning on coming back for the Italian. Great little restaurant, lovely food and fantastic staff. We will be back.

We went tonight as we have seen this place and wanted to visit. Enter to a warm friendly welcome from the owner. The service is prompt and the food is very hearty and extremely nice. Will be going again to try the Sunday lunch.

Visited with friends this evening, the food was lovely with a good selection of wines and beers, all reasonably priced. A very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!!

We never knew this place existed, but wanting a nice lunch we looked up somewhere to go on trip adviser and thank god we did. The place was quiet but its just been taken over according to the waitress who was very lovely and made sure we had a lovely experience. The food was amazing, and even the house red was nice not cheap and nasty as it often is these days. I really hope people start to use this great restaurant. Its a little hard to find if you don't know where to look, but certainly worth the effort.

Had a lovely meal here with family. Very authentic Italian food in a very unique building. Very attentive staff. We will be going back!

Tried this restaurant on Friday 29th March with family. A bit quiet at the time but the food was brilliant and the staff were really friendly. Lovely décor inside and out. The salmon main course was great and so apparently was the tiramisu which was tried by two of our family. Would recommend a visit and will certainly go back again on next visit down south.

Tried this restaurant from the Premier Inn nearby. Less than 5 minutes walk. Lovely food. Open kitchen and really friendly staff. No comparison to the Premier Inn or dodgy Carvery next door. Recommended !

Just returned from a lovely evening. Took my mum for dinner, the food is hearty, wholesome, tasty Italian and the tiramisu is a must.

Decided to give this place a go. What a nugget !! Food gorgeous and reasonably priced. To be honest I’ve eaten a lot worse at Italian restaurants in Italy. Authentic and definitely worth a visit. Just ignore the decor.

Went for a catch up with friends, there were 9 of us in our party- they were very accommodating and even made dishes for two of our party that weren’t on the menu. Although it was cold (it has been very cold this week) this did not spoil the evening at all. The relaxed and personal feel of the service was nothing that I had experienced locally- especially when part of a similar sized party at Capri at the Vine we were made to order from a set menu. A winner for me. We were even serenaded by the waiter on the piano. We will definitely be returning as a couple and telling all our friends. Independent businesses should be supported.

Place is really dirty and needs a good scrub and heating. We were absolutely freezing and the 2 portable plug in heaters are ineffective and ugly.

Me and my friends came here for a celebration. We have been here before when it was under a different name but wanted to try it now it was under new management. We had a lovely evening and the food was lovely. The staff couldn’t have been more tentative to us. Will deffo return
